Cafe Tallulah was such an
Cafe Tallulah was such an amazing experience for me. I was fortunate enough to devour the salmon with the side of rapini. I also had the Jacques Rose followed by a Cuban Daquiri. The Daquiri was my favorite because of it's sweet and succulent flavor. The waitstaff treated us so well. I know my next Upper West Side visit will involve Cafe Tallulah.

If you're looking for a fun
If you're looking for a fun night out with your friends definitely check out Café Tallulah. The scene is perfect for a Thursday night. My friend and I went for dinner and enjoyed it so much that we stayed after dinner try more of the delicious cocktails in the lounge downstairs. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous and I'm looking forward to my next visit.

I have visited the newly talked
I have visited the newly talked about Café Tallulah for dinner a few times now and I am happy to say it’s nice to have this place in our neighborhood. At first I was taken by the venue - the bar upstairs is very cool hang out, and the lounge downstairs is even better with a fireplace and pool table. Happy that I don’t have to travel downtown to look for a place to hang out after a great meal. The cocktails are special, they have a real team of mixologists behind the bar. The food has been a work in progress, now with the new chef they seem to have gotten the kinks out and the burger is definitely one of my favorites. I will be sure to go back.

I’ve been living on the Upper
I’ve been living on the Upper West Side for a few years. I was really excited to hear of a new French restaurant coming into our neighborhood. There are very good places to eat around here, but nothing French. I was treated amazingly by the wait staff. The seat by the window was a little cold but the staff was very kind, attentive and always making sure I received the upmost service despite this minor setback.

Crème Brulee at Café Tallulah
Crème Brulee at Café Tallulah was caramelized just the right amount. I’m typically picky when it comes to Crème Brulee. I was happy to find they reached my standards and beyond.

The best part about Café Tallulah
The best part about Café Tallulah was the truffle fries. I am a New York City foodie and get truffle fries wherever I go. I thought they were the best I have had in a while. Looking forward to coming back for this dish. And the scene at the bar was great, lots of single yet sophisticated guys to choose from.

After an inconsistent start
After an inconsistent start it appears that CT found its legs. We had a great night there recently for four of us. As many UWSers know, the ambiance is great and the bar is one of the best in the area and is where we began with a couple of cocktails - the Serge Gainsbourg and the Maximilian were tasty - and oysters (great add!). For dinner, the tarte flambé and octopus were favored starters. The scallops and moules frites were the best of the entrees. The steak au poivre was not prepared as ordered but was fine. The wine list could use a few more less expensive choices for when you don't feel like spending the $$. The waitress was on top of things and our food arrived on time and hot, which is a pet peeve when it is not. Good stuff.

Worth a return!
Well prepared and very flavorful branzino filets over cous cous, wonderful pasta, solicitous service. Tallulah had a rough patch which is now a thing of the past. The new chef is adventurous but respectful of food traditions too. Go and see for yourself!

wonderful neighborhood place,
wonderful neighborhood place, warm, relaxed with great food

Waited until the “new opening rush” was over. Read some spotty things about Tallulah. Either they changed things, or none of it was true. Was a Tuesday night, so crowded, but not insane. Drinks were great. House drink terrific. We both had tuna tartare to start. Perfect. Had the scallops and the burger. Both were excellent. No dessert menu. Only 3 choices. Had the flour free chocolate cake. It was terrific. Wait staff extremely nice and helpful in choices. Music and atmosphere just right. Not a thing to complain about. I’ll be back. Just what the neighborhood needed.

Had a great dinner with a friend. I will definitely be back. I had salad (the frisee) and scallops, my friend had the branzino. It was very tasty. The drinks were great! I definitely suggest the serge gainsbourge. It was a fun, upbeat place - definitely not a quite crowd.

Tallulah, thank you for being the much needed UWS restaurant addition I've been long awaiting. My recent visits have been nothing short of lovely. The staff is polite and helpful. The food is decadent(as French Bistro food should be.) Try the: french onion soup- nicely seasoned; steak tartare- tender and nicely acidic; tarte flambee- a must try for meat & cheese lovers; lamb-exceptionally tender and accompanied by a tasty ratatouille; beef bourguignon- my fav in NYC. The drinks: divine; word is the bar staff is largely comprised of EO vets; it's reflected in the deliciously well crafted cocktails. It's also an aesthetically pleasing space with a gorgeous tin ceiling & cozy lounge downstairs

Finally a Restaurant Opens Here
The long-ago site of Victor's Café seemed doomed forever, many signs, but nothing opened. Finally, Café Tallulah! Had dinner there last night and it was delicious. My dinner partner and I shared the mussels entrée as an appetizer. Mussels were delicious and the French fries were outstanding. Why did nobody think of bringing us seafood forks? I don't drink wine, only cognac, Armagnac. I am usually left with a choice of Hennessy VS or Remy. Here, the choice was huge, the prices reasonable and the pours generous. The crème brulee for dessert would have been greatly improved if someone had actually "bruleed" the top, or caramelized the sugar topping. The inside crème was very tasty.

A welcome addition to the UWS
Great French food in a charming and cozy space The music level was adult and the service excellent. The clientele was varied;we were there for a 75 th birthday dinner;a t one table next to us a woman was grading papers for a college course;at another 4 young women were celebrating a birthday with drinks and dessert. The owner Greg Hunt was very welcoming and attentive

Great addition to the UWS
Not that the UWS needed another restaurant but this bistro is a wonderful addition. We went with friends who have lived here all their lives and are foodies and they loved it. From the salads to the tuna tartare to the Branzino to the Creme Brûlée the dining experience was everything we wished for-a quiet, reasonably priced meal close to home. We will be back soon with other UWS food enthusiasts.

Went for brunch this past Sunday. Crowded but comfortable. I had hamburger and fries. Delicious. Husband had Eggs Benedict and loved them. Had dinner here when first opened. They had growing pains. This time food was hot, delicious and plentiful. Service has always been great as have the drinks. We found our weekly brunch spot.
5/18/2013 4:00:00 PM
The onion soup is excellent and the tuna tartar is amazing.

Excellent kitchen and good service WHEN THE RESTAURANT IS HALF EMPTY.
Be sure to sit in the windowed area, the bar section is deafening when the place is full and, full of themselves, they won't seat you without your whole party so you're banged and pushed while waiting. Oh, and the tables are so tiny, it's impossible to fit two appetizers and bread. Literally.

Great neighborhood gem+ $1 oysters!
What a pleasure to have a new UWS (low 70's) quality restaurant! French Bistro, quality, nice atmosphere. Seemed to take a bit for the 2nd courses to come out, but we were enjoying ourselves and it was nice, so we didn't mind so much. Great sourdough bread & salted butter. Love the $1 oysters!!

My new favorite. Excellent truffle fries. Nice bar scene and excellent bartenders

A lot of potential
Overall, very good. Server was excellent, host very friendly and accomodating. Low point: the oyster special- truly the worst oysters we have ever had-bland, dry, flavorless, as if they had been pre-shucked and refrigerated from hours earlier. From there, everything else was great to excellent. French onion soup-rich, nicely flavored, excellent tuna tartare, fantastic truffle fries, delicious frisee salad with lardons and poached egg, and the best merguez sausages we have had outside of France. The steak tartare could have used more zip. If you like lavender, try the 'Provencale' cocktail, it was like the south of France in a martini glass. Desserts came cold :( creme brulee and chocolate cakes. We will be back for the highlights.

A good addition to the UWS
The Upper West side is severely lacking in sophisticated energetic restaurants and Cafe Tallulah starts to fill that void. It's a bit noisy, but that comes with the territory. The menu is quality french bistro, not groundbreaking but the things they attempt are pulled off well.

We go here reasonably often and think it is definitely a welcome addition to the neighbourhood and better than the general tone of reviews

A Gem of a Restaurant
After going through a few chefs, Cafe Tallulah has become our "go to" restaurant for good food in a hip setting. Great steak, chicken, fish. Very nice appetizers. The cheese place is enormous. The scallops are terrific. Reasonable for this type of food. A neighborhood gem with a real chef.
6/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
Generally very good
The onion soup was excellent. So was the tuna tartar.

Great restaurant in the nabe
Cafe Tallulah opened in the winter while I was away. I'd been meaning to go and finally got there. It met all my expectations: great food perfectly cooked, good service, and good atmosphere. My friend and I both enjoyed it.G

Good food Again
We had another terrific dinner at Cafe Tallulah again. Two of us split a dozen oysters, one main and 2 apps and it was just right. The service was excellent and the noise level acceptable ,especially for the Upper West Side which seems to be getting noisier and noisier
8/4/2013 5:00:00 PM
Overall well done
This was our second trip to Cafe Tallulah and we were not disappointed. We were seated promptly and the service was good (the waitress seemed a bit flustered at first by our joking with her). Food was excellent and we had a great bottle of wine. Overall very well done and I like this place. We recommend it and will definitely be back.
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
A friend and I shared a delicious Cobb salad. The chicken was freshly made and warm. We so had perfect mussels-very plump and juicy in a delicious white wine sauce. Then a terrific peach cobbler, freshly made -perfect!

Good French Food
This beautifully decorated restaurant with a lot of light coming in has terrific food and an attentive staff. They were very helpful I getting us out for a 7PM curtain without feeling rushed. My salmon with lentils was excellent with some leftover for lunch and TGE French Onion Soup was one of the best I've had. If you don't like noise go early or for lunch as he nous level increase as TGE evening goes on.

Diamond in the rough
This restaurant s a nice new entry in the West Side cuisine scene. Great menu. Good service and friendly.

Great food and ambience
We found this place while walking around the neighborhood and we immediately decided to come back for dinner. The service was nice and the French onions soup was delicious. We have tried the beef bourguignon and it was excellent. The ambiance was friendly the restaurant was not crowded and the music wasn't too loud. There are very expensive wines but you can find good and affordable wines. I definitely would return to try more dishes.

Incredible As Always!
I had dinner here Friday night. The service, ambience and food were all outstanding! The scallops were divine as well the charcuterie was outstanding and the bouillabaisse was decadent. Wine list is incredible and the lounge downstairs is gorgeous and fun! I can’t wait to go back!

Excellent Find on the Upper West
Food was great. Service superior. Altogether a wonderful experience.

Good food overcomes bad service
We had a great corner table, however not in the line of sight of anyone but our fellow dinners.
I would have an owner present all the time until they figure out why the service is so consistently bad. All that aside, don't miss the opportunity to try it for yourself. Live Jazz! And when not, then piped in music is the best I've heard in a restaurant, accouterment: great for the scene it created. Wine list chosen w. skilled knowledge. the longest bar imaginable and packed with energy. ON BALANCE GO!
11/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
Their food is consistently good but I prefer lunch or early dinner as its quieter. Its fun to take friends who haven't been there as they're surprised at how good a neighborhood restaurant can be.

C'est Délicieux ! - Très bon!
Cafe Tallulah is a French restaurant that is uniquely New York. The food, service, and ambiance are all presented on a grand scale with a lot of attention to detail. The seared scallops and the French onion soup appetizers were perfect. My wife had the mushroom tortellini and I the stuffed veal breast and both were excellent. The wine list was extensive, but not too expensive. We found ourselves too full for dessert, but we were certainly satisfied.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
Outstanding drinks, fabulous food in a wonderful space. Don't miss it!!!
11/25/2013 4:00:00 PM
Food was great, service was outstanding, I have no complaints and I would recommend this place to anyone.
Sarah was our waitress and she did an excellent job. All the bartenders are great too - true mixologists! The ambiance here is fantastic any night of the week but on weekends there's the plus of a downstairs lounge with a pool table and occasional live jazz.

Looking at last minute for dinner spot on Friday after Thanksgiving on upper west side and found Café Tallulah on OpenTable. We were surprised and delighted with the experience. Would definitely return. Engaging 'bistro' menu with good choices. Moderate prices - most entries in lower $20's. Wine list had broad range. Service was attentive. The place had a very appealing feel: warm, subdued lighting but not dark, 'buzzing' but not noisy. One entre should have been warmer when delivered, but overall only a slight detraction to an experience we would repeat with pleasure and have already recommended to friends.

My wife and I wanted a quiet place to have dinner before going to a show at Carnegie Hall. We were seated in the back of the enclosed sidewalk cafe. Perfect, even when the loud family sat down at a long table behind us. It was a NY Show with our dessert. When we eat out we like something we don't make at home. She had the BRANZINI. Flavorful, but cut up in filets for presentation. Most places will either show you the fish before cooking and/ or ask if you want the head with the meal and serve it whole. The service was appropriate. We did not feel ignored or bothered. Dessert is not their strong point. My Beef Bourguignon was very good. It melted in my mouth with a rich sauce that complimented the meat.
