Chef Michael Crouch has created an excellent menu at Bistro 1860. Everything was delicious. The potato wrapped Salmon was out of this world! You have to try the Lobster Hush Puppy as well. Great cocktail and wine selection as well. We definitely return.

I recently took my best friend and her husbnd to 1860 for their birhday celebration. We were not disappoined. We went on a Monday and were pleasently surprised by the half proce wine list on this day. we had an excellant bottle of wine. The food was well prepared as well as well presened. We all loved the three size option! We could have an appetiser as well as an entree.
We tried the Mushroom flan and the Lobster hushpuppy both were out of this world. Our entrees were the Salmon, the crab cakes and the short ribs. All were excellant. But the Lobster Hushpuppies were WOW!
All and all the entire dining experience was excellant and my friends enjoyed their birthday.

The food and the 3 choice serving concept are brilliant.
Not only was every thing we tasted delectable, you could order a bite, and appetizer or and entre. We had a great time!!
Service was superb. We ate in the bar area and it was active but not at all overwhelming.

New addition to favorites list
Amazing food. Simply amazing! Great concept of having the option of choosing your proportion for each entree! Loved it!

I recently got into an argument with a friend about the over use of the word awesome. So I use the word awesome here with that in mind. Awesome food, awesome menu, awesome chef, awesome drinks, awesome staff, awesome atmosphere, awesome evening. Every single aspect of our meal was awesome from the open table reservation process to the moment we entered the restaurant to four hours later when we left.
But of course it is all about the food and our table found ourselves pinching ourselves that it all really couldn't be that awesome, but it was as we tasted around 80% of the menu due to an awesome menu that allowed you to order small bites. So many wine choices too to pair with each course. Check out the photo of our 1st course.

Fabulous food - bad service
The food is fabulous. Unfortunately, the waiter that I have had twice is not. He made my friends and myself uncomfortable and couldn't answer our questions about the food. He tried to bluff his way through but it was ridiculous. He put a damper on the evening and it was a shame because the chef is supurb. I believe that Bistro 1860 serves the best food in town. And the pricing allows one to taste a bit of several wonderful things instead of having to choose just one large entree. That's a good thing to do because everything I've tasted from the restaurant is very special. If only the waiter would be more respectful and pleasant...

New Louisville Favorite
This is a foodies dream restaurant. I have a Super Club that meets once a month to try new places and this place was a hit. We actually have decided to go back for next months dinner and skip our planned place. I was with 7 people so we covered a lot of the menu and everything was fresh and tasty. You must request Marty for you waiter. The Executive Chef came to out table a couple times to check on our dinner and he was very friendly and down to earth. We were very lucky that we were able to try all of the desserts and we wanted to lick the bowls. Everything about this place is just right. If you want some amazing food and drinks try it I promise you will love it. We can't wait to go back!

Celebrated a birthday outside on a beautiful early evening...inside was cold! We had the small lobster pasta for dinner and a delicious mixed green salad and then a small bite bread pudding. Everything was very tasty! One of our NEW favorite spots!

What a wonderful night!!
Superb service from Erica. Excellent food, uniquely available in a size of serving for every taste...or eat appetizer size servings of many of the wonderful menu items. We held our anniversary celebration here and could not be happier. Don't miss the Lobster Hush Puppies. The Duck Breast was perfect!

Great service, loved the half-price
Great service, loved the half-price wine specials on Mondays! Food arrived quickly. With the way the menu is set up you can choose.several small items to share or order larger entrees. Great for a girls night or a date night. Loved the atmosphere.

Nothing like this in Louisville
This was our 3rd visit to Bistro 1860 in the last 4 months. It's our new go to restaurant for special occasions. The concept is that there are 3 portion sizes of almost every item on the menu. Allowing you to taste a lot of different things. Some of the favorites were, Lobster Hush Puppies, Foie Gras, Pork Belly, Duck en Croute, and Lobster Pasta. The desserts were great, too. They also come in 2 sizes. A full size and a tasting size.

Fantastic, unique food in cozy cool dining spaces with great service!

A most delicious concept!
Almost all menu items are available in three sizes ; a bite, an appetizer or an entre. You can try three or four separate items and not overload, yet taste some of the most delicious, creative food available in the area. We love coming here.

Deliciousness in any size
We had heard of Bistro 1860 from friends and had also been when it was L&N. I was excited about the idea of bring able to do tasting, appetizer or full size meal portions of the menu items. We made a reservation but had such a nice time at the bar (the spicy Bloody Mary and the 1860 margarita were expertly made by the bartenders). We had lobster hush puppies, pulled pork tacos and the ribeye. Everything was amazing and the sizes were excellent - just enough to get a taste but without being too much. We finished with the pot-de-creme of peanut butter and chocolate chip ice cream. Definitely added to our fav's for future celebrations and/or date night!

Best in Louisville
We eat out a lot and have been to many a great restaurant in Louisville. Hands down, Bistro 1860 gets our vote for best new restaurant and a serious contender for best overall restaurant in town. The menu options make it ideal for sharing and trying a variety of dishes... and you should! After a nine course meal, we had trouble narrowing it down to our favorites. Lobster hushpuppies, mushroom flan, pork belly, scallop crudo, foie gras. All were amazing! Chef Michael is a genius in creating incredibly unique taste experiences that combine various individual ingredients, textures, colors, and presentation. Seriously, make your reservation. Go and enjoy exemplary service, the best wine-by-the-glass list in town, and incredible food!

Great New Find
While looking for a new place to go and celebrate my birthday, I found this one. I choose it because (1) none of our family had ever been (2) The chef was from a restaurant we used to go too, a lot. (3) You could order different size portions, like tapas and we could all try a lot of different things that way. We had a reservation. The restaurant only had one bartender that night, they were short. Therefore it took a very long time to get our drinks, as they were very crowded. The waiter and owner both apologized & the owner bought all 6 of us our first round of drinks, to make up for any trouble they might have caused us. The food was outstanding!! We will be taking friends back.
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Everything we had was delicious. Service was just ok. We had to ask about the specials, and she did not really appear to want to speak of them. Also, we had to ask twice to have water glasses filled. The oysters on the half shell, scallops, duck, salmon, and English toffee dessert were all outstanding. I like the multiple portion options. We would definitely eat here again.
8/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great atmosphere. Very friendly
Great atmosphere. Very friendly staff and Mgr. Very relaxing and I loved that you could order the size portion you wanted and could try different things or share. Food was delicious.
8/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Scallop Crudo and Lobster Roll were devine. The Oysters On The Half were too small and the sauces overpowered the oysters, but was still enjoyable. The special swordfish was tasty, but overcooked. Could have been less cooked. Fabulous desserts. Would return...
8/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
I took my girlfriend here for a nice dinner out without the kids and this place did not disappoint. Our server, the food, drinks, everything was amazing. Love that you can choose the size of anything you order so you can try several things in one meal. If you love food, you have got to check this place out. Duck confit strudel, smoked pork tacos, lobster pasta, the wine bar, everything we tried was fantastic with knowledgeable, friendly service.

Food, Music and More
Great food, fantastic service and an awesome live jazz trio. The bar served an exquisite Old Fashioned with blood orange and smooth bourbon. The food was wonderful was in portions that allowed sampling of several excellent selections, rather than forcing you into one choice. And the desserts capped of a great evening. Both the owner/manager and the Executive Chef came by our table a couple of times to ensure our satisfaction, which shows they really do care about the full dining experience.

Enjoy the Variety!
Great chance to enjoy tastes of special items with others at the table. Opportunity to try a small sample then order another if you find a favorite. A wide variety of foods and prepapration styles from veggies to meat and seafood

Louisville Finally has a First.
Bistro 1860 is the first and best eatery that can cook contemporary food in explosive ways. Ron Kayrouze and his team turn ingredients into delights to eat. The system of 1-2-3 in ordering ing great and gives us a sample of many items that can be enlarged at a future date. His Veal short ribs were fantastic, as was the Oysters, and the Yellow fin Tuna, which was one of my two appetizers. Some nice wine from lesser known vinyards was a very good surprise. I must say that Bistro 1860 is by far the best place to eat if you love good food served in a very contemporary and delicious manor. I eat out very little as I do not like to eat food that is not as good as my own cooking. I have found that spot.

Second time to this restaurant
Second time to this restaurant and we really enjoyed it. The food was very well prepared with a great presentation. Our server and other wait staff were attentive and pleasant. Understandably the kitchen was slow on this night as everybody in town seemed to be here on a beautiful fall evening. Give yourself a few extra minutes to find a parking space.
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
I brought some work colleagues in for dinner, and as always, everything was outstanding. We shared all of our dishes and everyone was very impressed. It is a restaurant I always recommend, and no one has ever been disappointed.

Must try for foodies!
Love the menu size options, allowing tastes of many items. The foi gras and sweetbreads were extraordinary. Portions were generous, specials were very creative. Many notable wines available by the glass. Wonderful dining experience.
10/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Loved the ability to choose portion sizes. Could taste more of the delicious options. Server, John, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful guiding us through the abundant list of choices.

New Favorite Place!
My friends and I went to Bistro 1860 for my birthday, we had a party of 10 and our waiter was very attentive and knowledgable about each menu item. The food and wine were delicious and I will be back for more as soon as possible!
10/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Bistro 1860 never misses. We've been 3 times and each time we've been blown away byl the food. The three sizes to each dish allows you to really customize your meal. The specials were great too especially the Hawaiian sea bass with lobster newburg sauce.

Great Place with Outstanding Food
Bistro 1860 is a great place with a concept that I love. You can choose almost everything off of their menu as an appetizer portion meaning you can literally have at least 3 or more "tastings" in one sitting. I love ordering off of the appetizer menu at most restaurants, but this takes it to a whole new level. We have especially loved the pork tacos, the oysters and the scallops.
The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and has a fine dining feel with a casual atmosphere. The service has always been excellent and the desserts have been phenomenal. I would recommend this place to anyone time and time again. Oh, and their cocktail menu is reason enough just to stop by for a drink at their beautiful bar!
11/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very good food, the different portion size option was good, Service was as expected, very good, wine list was good, BUT, very expensive relative to similar establishments in Louisville and while portion may have been the requisit 5 oz. it seemed less than normal. My take is the wine is twice the cost of similar quality dining places. Does the good food and service out weigh this? probably, so I'll be back, just not too often.

THE Place For Fine-Dining & Atmos.
Excellent in every way. Been twice. First time was amazing, second was on my birthday, and it was remarkable. Every detail from the ambiance to the service and, of course, the cuisine, was just pure top-notch. Compliments to the Chef, Michael -- things keep getting better and better, simply put!

Fantastic, Flavorful Food
The food was phenomal! We had the Duck Breast with asparagus and the Duck Confit with brussel sprouts. We were able to talk to the chef and he recommended those items. He was spot on! However, the server for our particular table was not having a good night. Very slow an not real friendly and what made it worse was the fact that the tables around us had different servers and they did a great job.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Good food and ambiance
We had a very nice meal, and like the option of having small plates. The food was good, and imaginative. The room is very nice, and when spring comes we will return for the lovely outdoor eating space.
11/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
Interesting menu options
LOVED the 2-3 sizes/prices for each item. I felt the wine prices were a bit high. Perhaps the wine they are serving is costly to begin with, but in Louisville, I do feel they should offer a few lower priced glasses in each category. For example, I think the cheapest chardonnay option is $13. Those are Chicago or NYC prices, but too high for Louisville. The food was very good, though.

Food is a celebration
Went here to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Bistro 1860 did not disappoint. Great atmosphere and wonderful food.
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
A group of friends and I went to Bistro 1860 for a long dinner where we wanted to sample different wines. Bistro 1860 delivered that and so much more! We were there for about 3 hours laughing and catching up--and the staff did not mind at all. We had several courses, several bottles of wine, and just the best time. I would recommend to anyone! Their menu is unique and delicious!
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
Bistro 1860 is quickly rising to the top tier of the Louisville food and dining scene, the kitchen under the amazing guidance of Chef Michael Crouch is turning out multi-sized dishes that are off the charts in both innovation and tastes. An incredible wine list with almost 50 selections by the glass combined with craft cocktails and a well chosen beer selection have made the bar a true hit.
An warm upscale decor and snappy service make Bistro 1860 a true home run.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
We visited Bistro 1860 to celebrate a Birthday November 26th.
The entire experience was enjoyable. The menu offers 2 or 3 sizes,
described as: Bite, Starter, Entree on most items. The wine list is generous.
Service was exceptional
from greeting to departure.
Go and enjoy

No steak knives needed!
Dinner was fabulous! Four in our party ordered the filet; no one needed to use a steak knife and the sauce was delicious! One person ordered the salmon and the other duck. Both raved about the flavor of their dishes. Side dishes (asparagus and brussel sprouts) were sizable, tender and well-seasoned. Wine selection was more than adequate.
We won't, unfortunately, order dessert upon our future visit. The bread pudding, apple/rum ice cream and chocolate cream were nothing to write home about and were pricey.
We'll definitely return for dinner but will leave our sweet tooth at home!

Very good place, the waiter
Very good place, the waiter didn't do the best job of explaining the plate sizes and was quite odd. I think he was trying to be interesting/humorous but he was a bit annoying (Bald guy).
