Beautiful interior and delicacy
The food was extremely delicious and top notch. I went there for my wife's birthday dinner.
They were kind enough to offer us free drinks and provided us with excellent service to make us feel special.
The interior and ambient lighting, in addition to groovy music, made our special dinner extra-special and romantic.
Highly recommended. You should try the bbq octopus for app and pig for main!

Great Addition to the Neighborhood
Great new restaurant in the West Village. Went during opening week and everything was tremendous. Great takes on old favorites and also some very creative items that will keep me coming back for more! Can't wait to dine here again.

Perfect for the night we needed
The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The food was amazing and cooked to perfection. We enjoyed our night very much. The closing was great as the owner introduced himself and spoke to us briefly. This is definitely a return spot. Best of luck to you on your opening!

Best of East and West
The food and drinks were very unique and a wonderful surprise to the palate. They even have a wonderful non alcoholic cocktail for those that don't or can't drink (because they're pregnant!). This is definitely the must try new restaurant of 2013!

I was absolutely shocked by the quality of the food (and service - which is rare for a new restaurant) at Piora. The "Monkey Bread," bucatini, and "Rohan Duck" were the most memorable things on the menu. Overall, this place is outstanding right out of the gate. Will definitely be coming back here.

The right Formula
After a glowing recomendation from my boss , My wife and I decided to try Piora . Simon the owner has found the true balance of atmosphere, service and outstanding food . His chef has Passion and you can taste it in every bite. As my boss said when describing this great find "He has the right Formula "

What a discovery!
I went to Piora with a friend on its second day since opening. Service is impeccable. The maitre D' is very attentive, so are the writers. Food was excellent. I went back with a date a week later; ordered different food and - again - very satisfied.

Good food and cocktail menu.
Good food and cocktail menu. Great attention to detail in service and with delivery of food. All the basics were spot on; correct order, courses delivered together and with a description of the plate. Food was very good, must tries include monkey bread (if you're not on a carb free diet), the duck confit, and the rigatoni (if not a vegetarian(!)).

Near perfect meal
Wasn't sure what to expect from this place, would be easy to walk right by it. Chicly sophisticated design. Extremely attentive service. Great great cocktails. A huge bar, great for watching the skilled people make those great cocktails. Dapper sommelier with spot-on judgment. The food was awesome. It won't be the cheapest meal you've ever had, but it'll be worth every penny. We didn't have any of the entrees. Got most the starters, sides and pastas though and loved everything. Seasonal vegetables were perfect. Sunchoke side I'm STILL thinking about. All the pastas were fantastic. Can't wait to try the rest.

Great addition to the neighborhood!
I dined here the other night with a friend and we were both extremely delighted by the food, service, and ambience. I will be sure to go back really really soon!!

I have a fantastic meal at Piora last night. The staff was extremely friendly, atmosphere was cozy yet sophisticated, and the food was just delightly. I am very excited for this new addition to the neighborhood!

Phenomenal! Foodie heaven.
Phenomenal! Foodie heaven. The 40oz cote du beuf is one of the best steaks you will ever have. And like DailyCandy said: "Try ... the bucatini nest of black garlic, snow crab, charred maitake mushrooms, and chilies. It is the stuff of legends." Their skilled barmen bring cocktail skills to match the food.

Every single thing about this restaurant was top notch. My fiance and I wanted to order everything off Chef Chris's menu. We ordered the Monkey Bread, Market Veggies, Scallop, Duck Confit, Agnolotti, Ocean Trout and Suckling Pig. We were overwhelmed with how amazing the dishes were. The experience was outstanding. The cocktails were just as good as the food. I couldn't stop ordering the Havana Sour. My fiance who would normally nurse a drink until after we've paid the bill had 3 Pairs Well.
Can't wait to go there again!

always looking for something new
My friend and I are always looking for new and great restaurant openings and after reading rave reviews on Piora, we decided to squeeze in a reservation. We arrived on a Wednesday evening at 6PM and the bar was bustling with professionals. It was energetic but not too loud. Once my friend arrived, we were invited into the dining room, where a beautiful garden awaited us.
The food was fabulous, service was on the spot, and we loved all the wine/drinks recommended by the Sommelier.
We cannot wait to go back!

Amazing all Around
Went for THE 40oz RIBEYE aged 28 days, grilled and then slow cooked in bourbon maple syrup and butter. Everything we ate was delicious: monkey bread with lard and seaweed butter, beets and tuna tartare, scallops with crispy chicken skin and corn, grilled vegetables, the accompaniments to the steak (a cross between kale and broccoli rabe and tiny potato croquettes), an unbelievable strawberry shortcake, salty caramel ice cream, mango and to-die-for available two weeks out of the year concord grape sorbet. They also have a great specialty drink menu. And the service was impeccable. Constant attention to the table and the owner circulates. Go before you have to get a babysitter once a year to fine dine!

on my regular list!
Piora has made it to my repertoire and i have been consistently dining here every week. Food is always great, service is always attentive. It has become progressively more difficult to get reservations to try it soon if you haven't already!

Nice addition to the neighborhood
We live a few blocks away and pass by the restaurant all the time. We decided to see what the fuss was all about and were not disappointed. The food was delicious, sophisticated, without being too fussy. We only had appetizers since they all looked enticing. The standouts were the carrots, scallops and egg. The octopus was mushy, a complaint I see from other reviewers. Hard to tell if it is the quality of the octopus or the quality of the cooking. We also order the duck confit appetizer, and while it was tasty, I was surprised that it was fried. Simon Kim worked the room nicely and was very gracious. The restaurant is still obviously trying to work out the kinks, as it took a while for our meal to be served, and we only had appetizers.

had a 9:15 reservation, but didn't sit until 9:45. however, the team handled it wonderfully keeping us informed and even served us complimentary champagne for waiting. i so appreciate service that's proactive and thoughtful! the flavors are wonderfully paired and the dishes perfectly executed. even the sunchokes that were slightly charred, had an intention behind them that added a smokiness and crunch that blew me away. i could eat bowls of those! we had the tomatoes, the rohan duck, the suckling pig and the octopus. all delicious dishes that we couldn't stop talking about.

The very good news is that
The very good news is that the food at Piora was absolutely outstanding and the service was equally professional. Highly recommended. But I have few major reservations. We arrived for our reservation 10 minutes early (it was less than half full), but they refused to seat us, probably because they wanted us to have a drink at the bar. More importantly, the constant push of high priced items (a glass of Champagne for $29, pasta with truffles ($68) was obnoxious. And the wine list had very few moderately priced items (and once again they pushed the much higher priced wine, despite my insistence that I wanted something quite reasonable). So go for great food, but be prepared for a constant and obnoxious onslaught of overpriced recommendations.

This restaurant will be a hit
Go before it becomes impossible to get in. The food is surprisingly good. Unique ingredient combinations; well thought-out dishes. The dessert wasn't quite as inspired as the appetizers, pastas and main courses, but was still better than most. The prices aren't cheap, but are correctly priced for the quality you get. The decor is simple, but stylish. The scallops, bucatini, trout and duck were superb.

From the great bar, with incredible craft drinks, to the beautiful dining room, Piora gets high grades. Excellent vegetables started out meal. We went from there to their truffle pasta, (white truffles from Alba), which we though was their weakest dish of the night. Then the star, their cote de boeuf. A lots been written about it, and it's all true...ABSOLUTELY delicious!!
The service was for the most part stellar, and their sommelier Kyle, knows his stuff. I can easily say, this was one our our best meals of the year!! BRAVO PIORA!!
10/15/2013 5:00:00 PM
Delicious, creative menu
Great cocktail list and short, but eclectic and perfectly executed menu. The egg a fantastic starter as well as the scallops; suckling pig a delicious main. Would loved to have tried more of the pastas and entrees. Would happily go back but reservations have gotten tough!

Food was amazing. Service
Food was amazing. Service could have been better, especially the sommelier who was borderline rude.
Strange seeing that we ordered the most expensive bottle on the list.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent, but mind the up$ell
Piora is a great find. It has a beautiful bar and a nice, intimate dining room. The most distinguishing feature is the talented chef who produces excellent, innovative dishes. In general, we really enjoyed our evening here. My only minor complaint is that there seemed to be a less than subtle push by our waiter to upsell and urge us to order more dishes than we wanted, even though we were ordering freely. The sommelier was similar, exceeding our stated price preference with his first recommendation. I understand business is business, and this was easily managed with a little sales resistance, but it did set a somewhat unpleasant tone for an otherwise wonderful dinner. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the food and would highly recommend Piora.

Food and service alike. Food creative, thoughtful and unexpected. Service impeccable - almost to the point of discomfort.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very nice and intimate atmosphere. We shared the cote de bouf for two which was very good. First rate service. We would return.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
For a restaurant just a few months in, it's really great.
Food: The scallops were outstanding. The apple salad was really something special. The latter was a great mix of Korea and New American. The entrees were equally good. The duck with black garlic jus was really prepared well. My wife had the chicken, and even though a little cliche we generally judge a restaurant by how good the chicken is without being saturated in butter. Great chicken, well and cleverly prepared, not seemingly saturated.
In its early days, it's a little caught between upscale dining and neighborhood welcome, and it shows in sort of a strange mix of the two from the overall experience, but being a little different is not a bad place to be stuck.

great food; good service
pros: food! everything was delicious. favorites were: scallops, duck
cons: our waiter was very good on the whole, but a couple things struck us as being slightly off key. he explained to us that the chef recommends each person order a la carte - hot/cold appetizer, pasta, and entree per person. he specified, "NOT family style," which I thought came off a bit pretentious. had we actually ordered that amount of food per person, someone would have had to roll us out of the restaurant. it felt like a bit of an upsell. the portions are a good size; just the right amount when eating food that rich and delicious.
also, chairs are really uncomfortable. booth was way too soft and low, but the chairs were too hard. i felt like goldilocks!

My sister and I celebrated
My sister and I celebrated my parents' joint birthday dinner on a Tues. evening and the restaurant went out of its way to accommodate us and make the evening truly special. My mother is very critical when it comes to food and she loved every bite. I'm looking forward to heading back soon for oysters and champagne :)

Everything about our dinner at Piora was absolutely delicious- exceptionally delicious. It was the best meal I have had in a restaurant in a long time. The only negative thing I could possibly say is that our waitress was pretentious about the food. It speaks for itself and doesn't need promotion. Everything else and everyone else was perfect.
11/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
pockets of greatness, a few misses
monkey bread delicious as promised. service fantastic from entry all the way through. egg and scallop appetizer really tasty, with enjoyable mix of textures. bucatini starts well but turns into disappointingly oily mess at the end, which kind of put me off. maybe other entrees were better?

Elegant West Village Gem!
Superb, refined, amazingly delicious and elegantly prepared food. The service was spot-on: very attentive, maybe too attentive/overly eager (I forgive them, though, as that was the day their excellent 2-star NYTimes review came out and they wanted to work to maintain those 2 stars!). I recommend the heavenly monkey bread, served with seaweed butter and whipped lardo, as well as the market vegetables (it is a complete shock to me that something called "market vegetables" was a favorite dish of mine, but it is true -- order it! I would go vegetarian for the dish!) and the duck. Excellent cocktails. One of the better dining experiences I have had in a while. A must try!

Can't say enough about our experience here. The food was just outrageous. The service, perfect. We eat out multiple times a week, and Piora is now at the top of our all time restaurant experiences.

Surprisingly great. Don't miss the market vegetables or the truffle pasta. Definitely end your night with the banana rum. Can't wait to go back.

Really enjoyed my dinner with
Really enjoyed my dinner with family at Piora - the service was great, the owner came by to ask us if we had questions on the menu and provided very thorough answers to our questions. The food was outstanding, we had the monkey bread, octopus appetizer, crab pasta, duck sausage pasta and suckling pig and I sampled a bit of each - all were really great, particularly loved the duck sausage pasta. The portion sizes are relatively small but have great flavor. It is a bit on the pricey side and the wine list starts out on the higher end but it is well worth it for a special night out!

Lives up to the Hype
I am wary when there is a new restaurant on the scene that people all rave about...but this one live up to its hype!
The menu is very tightly edited. I tried 4 apps and 2 entrees:
Carrots - don't underestimate the carrot! Delicious
BBQ Octopus - of the 4 apps I think this was the weakest. By no means is it bad, it was actually quite good! just relative to the others...if there's any criticism it would be that the sauce overpowers the octopus slightly...
Crab Bucatini - I split this with another diner, I wish I hadn't. The highlight of my meal. Next time I'm getting a full portion for myself
Trout - perfectly cookes
No dessert - they are inbetween dessert chefs. I didn't care but some might.

Piora is a gem. The food was wonderful and the service was actually both sweet and ernest if that is possible. From start to finish the entire dining experience was impeccable. Bravo!

wonderful dinner experience
we had a wonderful experience. The service was friendly and professional, food was excellent and the room was so appealig. All around it was great.

One of the best meals I've eaten in a long time...and I dine out quite frequently. Food was really outstanding, as was the service. Ordered the scallops, rigatoni w/duck sausage & ocean trout. Scrumptious! Save room for desert - the chocolate tort w/raspberries & pistachios was a perfect way to end the meal. I do see people rave about the monkey bread...while very yummy, if you've been to Quality Meats/Italian, it's exactly like that bread which they serve there for free, so maybe not worth it here. Although, the whipped lardo does compliment it quite well. But just an overall fantastic dining experience!
