First Time and Impressed
Rione XIII was recommended to us by a business associate and we were not disappointed. The food was outstanding, the day was beautiful and the service was excellent. We were very impressed and will be back again.

Fun but not at potential
Great atmosphere, but food was hit or miss. The special for the day was pasta that tasted overcooked and didn't have enough sauce. However cocktails were good and ambience made up for menu disappointments.

RIb Steak and Veal Chop....YUM!!!
I'm going to keep this simple. Great bar-and bartender. Had probably the best seat in the house-looking out the front windows so we were entertained by the street scene, but the tables are packed in so tightly that no one was able to sit in a truly comfortable position!
Waiter was incredibly slow and inattentive-had to flag him down for anything-water, clearing empty appetizer plates, ordering entrees.....And although they knew we were celebrating 2 birthdays, neither was comped. Not that we were expecting it, but so many places do SOMETHING, that we at least noticed that there was nothing. We will be back, but hope our server finds his true calling and moves on.

Birthday Dinner date at Rione XIII
We had a great time celebrating a milestone birthday, and reminiscing about our recent trip to Italy. The food was so good, and such a wonderful reminder of our dining experiences in Rome's Trastevere neighborhood. It was deceptively simple, beautiful, and tasty. The atmosphere on a summer evening, with the windows open to the warm air, added to the wonderful experience.

A Welcome Addition
I was not only impressed by very tasty and well-prepared pasta, but also by the clever interior design with brick walls, high ceiling, and very interesting light fixtures. Service was brisk and professional.
I will return many times.

Our second visit, and just as great as first time. We enjoy sampling smaller plates, pizza, etc and all have been great. We will definitely be back.

popular, not extraordinary.
I wouldn't make a special trip to eat here. The food is properly prepared. The tomatoes sauce on the pizza was unusually spicy. It would have been nice to be warned, and I like spice. I commented to the server. His response, it does have a kick!
It is a small space and sound bounces off every surface. Service could be more attentive. They also don't have ice tea.
It is not my idea of great Italian dining, but it was busy & obviously has a following.

nearly met its potential
I expected a lot from Rione xiii. After visiting once before for lunch, I knew the pasta was handmade and combinations of ingredients were creative.
I was there Saturday night with my husband. Summer beans in a tomato vinaigrette was my favorite dish. The pasta special was good, but the pasta should have been simpler and Bolognese was beef, which is never as good as lamb. The lemon cake with figs would have been much better if the figs were grilled.
service was great. Wine selection was great.
we'll be back to try again.

Some tasty options and some not so
After visiting Tavolata recently, I had high expectations for Rione XIII. Unfortunately, those expectations were not met. The service and wine was great. Our waiter was quick, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. The appetizers were pretty tasty so the dinner appeared to be off to a good start. We ordered 3 entrées to share; two of then did not hit the mark for us. The one entrée that did rise above the other two was very delicious. Overall, I don't think I would have dinner there again, but happy hour with appetizers is not out of the question in the future.

We finally made it to Rione XIII!!
I learned about this restaurant soon after it opened and had been wanting to try it out for a long time. I finally had the opportunity the other night on a date night with my husband. The atmosphere was great, service was friendly and helpful yet not intrusive and the food...oh the food. Loved my pasta special - radiatore with a proscuitto/beef ragu, and my husband's veal chop with prosciutto and fig was to die for. We had a lovely time and will definitely add this to our favorite restaurant rotation.
8/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Found this spot on OpenTable and it completely lived up to our expectations. The food was great and imaginative, and the service was attentive without being annoying. We would definitely recommend to others, and will return when we are next in Seattle!

The restaurant was very clean,
The restaurant was very clean, and service was prompt. Our waiter was fantastic, we wanted for nothing. We had the antipasto, fried artichoke, carbonara and ribeye.
The antipasto was great, the artichoke, eh. Well, it is a deep fried artichoke. It is what it is. The carbonara was good, but I've had better. It didn't really have much depth. It tasted more buttery than egg, garlic and guanciale. The ribeye was fantastic, perfectly cooked, and the pre-slicing was much appreciated as we were sharing! Wine selection is great, and again, the service couldn't have been better. I'll be back!

Superb as always
This was my second time, and it still dazzled. Every item of food is brilliantly done and superbly executed. Lots of great flavor. And the service is truly outstanding.
8/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
The meal was terrific
Loved the food and atmosphere of Rione XIII but above all the service was spectacular. The wait staff knew the menu well and was able to direct us to dishes that suited our tastes. She was great and I think what makes Seattle's restaurants stand out against other cities.
8/29/2013 5:00:00 PM
An absolutely outstanding
An absolutely outstanding meal in every way. Our waitress, Crystal was exceptionally qualified and helpful.

Another Hit from Ethan Stowell
Ethan Stowell makes the best pastas in town in my opinion and despite the Roman theme, the pastas here are just as good as his other restaurants. What makes Rhone stand apart are the mains. I find them lackluster at Tavolata but the veal sweetbreads here are the best I've ever had and the pizza was pretty fantastic as well. I also think the price was very reasonable.
9/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were very pleased with our dining experience. Our server Patrick was accomodating, friendly with suggestions that were just right for making it a special evening. Loved the fried artichoke appetizer and pasta selections. My oxtail entree was ample and succulent. Dessert of chocolate terrine did not disappoint.
9/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
Love the food, love the service, love the restaurant...kind of loud...hard to hold a table conversation.
9/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great for locals, or visitors
Ethan Stowell scored close to a bulls-eye with Rione, in our mind a better idea than the close-by Anchovies & Olives or How To Cook a Wolf on QA. The bar is very well set-up and normally very well tended, though our most recent experience was disappointing as the bartended could not make a basic negroni even with the chance for a do-over; and to use a grapefruit twist instead of orange was odd. Though the menu does not change frequenly, when it does a few select items reflect the seasonality available at the time. Pastas are good, proteins can vary, the pizzas are flavorful, and the small plates the most inventive part of the menu. Definitely worth a visit, especially since they are one of the few that will reserve a patio table.
9/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Delicious food and great ambiance. It really did remind me of the restaurants in Rome. I recommend the carbonara.
9/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food, service, and ambience
Rione XIII was a great experience that I would highly recommend. With a hip neighborhood feel, we were comfortable more dressed, while the more casually dressed diners also fit right in. The service was terrific, and we got some great guidance on selections that we really enjoyed (gnocchi, pepper pizza special). And our no-nonsense insalata mistas were just what were were looking for.
An added bonus was that Ethan Stowell himself was on hand - I don't know how directly he was involved in the preparation of our food, but there was something cool about seeing the owner actually in his restaurant, ensuring everything is running smoothly.
9/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
Another Ethan Stowell hit!
We tried out Rione XIII in celebration of my husbands birthday. It was perfect. Loved the fried artichokes. So happy to see squid ink pasta with cuttlefish on the menu. I first fell in love with a similar dish at Tavolata. The casual air of the restaurant and moderate pricing will allow us to return for more than just special occasions. I think that our children would also find several options that they would enjoy on the menu. Hats off to Ethan Stowell for another hit!
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
I'd love to come for lunch or brunch, but you aren't open.
9/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
This restaurant is one of my favorites. I find the specials are the best. The pasta is a bit too salty and not much substance. BUT the fried artichokes, heirloom tomatoes, branzino fish etc. excellent.
I've been there 3 times in 2 months and this past Saturday night the music was a bit too loud.
Other than that - a great find and I'll be back.
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
We really appreciated that
We really appreciated that we were not rushed through our meal like typical America dining. We were allowed to finish each course before the next was brought to the table. The food was excellent! We would like to have had a bit more cheese in the carbonara, but the pasta was cooked perfectly. Thanks for bringing back memories of Rome!
9/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Delicious food, friendly service
Rione XIII provides a nice modern twist and many Italian classics. The housemade mozzarella is fantastic, the pasta is just right. We drove from the Eastside just to go to this restaurant, and it was well worth it!
10/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
nice romantic restaurant
very good for dating, dining out for special occasion. very friendly waiter and waitress. you should reserve otherwise you have to wait for some time
10/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
What we ordered: sparkling rosé, antipasti assortment, house-made mozzarella, fried artichokes, arancini (listed on the menu as "Suppli al Telefono"), brown butter/sage/hazelnut ravioli, oxtail, and chocolate terrine. It was ALL phenomenal, but a few standouts warrant mention. The house-cured porchetta that comes on the antipasti plate was seriously one of the most amazing pieces of cured meat I have ever encountered. Wonderfully salty (but not overbearing!) with amazing flavor and a melt-in-your-mouth feeling. The arancini were the epitome of comfort food--rich and filling, but not in an overbearing way. The risotto in them was subtly seasoned without being bland. Finally, the oxtail was incredibly tender and delicious. Worth the trip!
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
simple and satisfying
A comfortable, although loud, place to stop in with a couple of good friends. The buratta is amazing and a nice way to start. Pasta was satisfying, although some dishes were better than others. I highly recommend the butternut squash ravioli. Flavors are good and simple. I can't wait to go back.
10/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Had never eaten here before because its always booked on the weekends. Finally got a babysitter and got here on a Wed. night. Super delicious food! I love me some Italian an they do it just right here. Great seasonal options on the menu, not too fancy so I can get my husband to eat here. Glad we are small people because the portions are a wee bit small. Fantastic wine menu as well.

Rome in Seattle
Great trattoria food right from Rome. Comfort food - tasting and well presented. The fried artichoke app was light and delicious. The pear salad with lardo was so yummy. And my gnocchi dish were a treat. My husband's chicken cacciatore was Italian through and through. But the best was the tiramisu... best we have ever had.
10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Does not disappoint.
Service was great and food was excellent. Very flavorful and inspiring.
10/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Rione XIII succeeds in bringing Rome to Seattle's Capitol Hill. Our charming and knowledgeable server, Patrick, guided us to an excellent, and well priced, bottle of 2012 Occhipinti "SP68" Sicilia Rosso. The starters of Carciofi alla Giudia and Bruschetta with smoked mackerel, pickled onions and aioli were like a quick trip to Rome. We shared the Gnocchi alla Romana which was the least impressive part of our meal since it seemed just a little too dense and perhaps over cooked. Our main course was a shared Veal Sweetbreads Piccata with artichoke, capers and lemon that would make a return visit mandatory - excellent combination of tastes, textures and preparation. A shared glass of 2008 Occhipinti Passito Nero ended a fine dining event.
10/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good: Squash Ravioli was excellent. Not so good: Beets would be better if feta cheese not ricotta (blah), walnuts, beets and balsamic vinegar. Good: Staff was very attentive without being overly so. Not so good: horrendous noise level may keep us from coming back.
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
great neighborhood restaurant
I really like going to this restaurant. The only reason I didn't give it five stars overall is that I didn't see enough on the menu that I thought looked really great at this last visit. We both ended up ordering two starters each. The menu changes so we will be back to see what they have next time.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
They nail the pasta - cacio e pepe is outstanding. Had the oxtails with polenta as well - very good and a huge helping easily big enough for two. Unfortunately you need to bring your earplugs, it is difficult to hear anyone over the din.
10/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great atmosphere. Fantastic Food. Will definitely go back when in Seattle.
10/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had an incredible evening! We were all sharing out food and loved it all! This is our second time dining at Rhone IIIX and we can't wait to go back! The staff was so helpful and attentive. Couldn't have asked for a better evening.

Friends' Birthday/Girls Night Out
My friends and I went to Rhione XIII for a birthday dinner and girls night out. Drinks were excellent, food was fabulous as was the ambiance. Perfect for catching up over a wonderful meal that we were able to share family style. We tried many different dishes including the bitter green salad, beets, oxtail, veal, butternut squash. There were options for those of us who eat meat and who are vegetarian. Chef Stowell made sure to come by and say Happy Birthday to my friend which added to a great night out. We will definitely be back--husbands in tow next time.

Great Atmosphere, Good food and great service. Very enjoyable. would go again.

Another winner for Ethan Stowall. Incredible food and great service made for a wonderful evening. We ate family style which was great because we were able to taste quite a few of the items on the menu. We will return to this restaurant.
11/16/2013 4:00:00 PM
We enjoyed our meal and it reminded me of dishes that we had in Rome especially the pastas. The service was exceptional and every request was met without hesitation. There was a good selection of things to order and the smaller plates made it easy to share with others. The wine selection was very good and reasonably priced. A lively warm atmosphere made for fun dining.

Fennel sausage pizza was incredible
Fennel sausage pizza was incredible, best thing I ever ate! Tender crust and roasted garlic made it sing!
11/18/2013 4:00:00 PM
Had a lovely, relaxed dinner.
Had a lovely, relaxed dinner. Am only sad that you are no longer doing lunch!
11/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
Wonderful, authentic menu. We've traveled extensively in Italy, and felt culinarily transported back a table in the streets of Rome. Attention to detail was found in even the small items like the aioli, and translated to the "stars" of the table. The well-priced wine menu was researched and contained some of the gems of Montepulciano, bottles we have yet to find in the States and were impressed the import mark-up wasn't higher.
Couldn't recommend the spot higher. Make reservations, plan to stay for a few hours, and enjoy the knowledgable and attentive wait staff who will tailor your experience to your liking.

I had been wanting to eat hear for a while. Quite delicious fare. Exceeded my expectations.
11/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
Unique pork chop
The pork chop is cut large and long, like a strip steak, has bit of bone on the side and is meltingly tender. It is absolutely amazing and unique.
11/25/2013 4:00:00 PM
Loved this unique take on Italian food. The Roman-style was refreshing from other choices in the city. The meat preparations were delicious as were the salads. Dessert was fantastic! Service was attentive throughout the meal. The noise level is high, so not a romantic spot.
