a unique brunch
Glad we made a reservation through Open Table - there was a line outside waiting for the start of Sunday Brunch. An unconventional menu with a few spins on standard offerings - one of our group enjoyed the french toast, with seasonal guava jam on the side. The rest of us appreciated excellent fish dishes - the black&blue tuna tacos were fresh and well-balanced, and the catfish reuben was good quality with a nice blend of flavors and textures. The grilled corn on the cob was a fun starter for the four of us to share. The only disappointment was a side of fried plantains that was a bit bland, and slightly undercooked. Service was excellent, even though busy. Our waiter describing many of the dishes we will have to go back to try.

Although they did not have our Open Table reservation (stated system should have shut off after they opened), after speaking to manager, our parking was comped and we received free drinks. Food was outstanding as was the atmosphere! Service was okay but not fabulous. The restaurant felt like we were part of the hip scene of Cambridge MA with oustanding food. I highly recommend!

Not fancy, but great
Wonderful barbecue--the best brisket (Texas style) that I've had in a long time--coupled with friendly and fast service. A great treat.

A Favorite. Best Greens Ever!
I've eaten at ECG a million times since I moved to Boston. I always love this place and enjoy bringing new people there. The beer selections are good, the large margaritas are a good value and the oysters are great. My favorite dishes include the mussel appetizer (order the grilled garlic bread with it!), the garlicky greens and the plantains with guava ketchup. I recently got a snow crab meal that was divine and a much better value than what I've found at waterfront spots! I also enjoyed a blue fish entree last year. Otherwise, I usually make the meal out of a bunch of small bites so I can enjoy several flavors. When I was last there, I saw several tables with the big bbq rib meals - I may have to go that way next time. ENJOY!

A fun blast for us all
We had a fun blast. After being shut out 3 times, we got smart and booked conveniently and easily through Open Table. The group came in gradually, which was no problem for the restaurant. We then enjoyed great banter with a knowledgable intelligent server who could recommend the specials and the specialties. All in all it was great, healthy and delicious food.

Lived up to my expectations
Lived up to my expectations and recommendations from all my reviews. It was great!

Great Wing Night event
We went for their special wing night event and were not disappointed. All the various flavors we tried were excellent and give kudos to the staff because the big red ones were super hot.

We had a great time there
We had a great time there celebrating my boyfriend's birthday! We started out with the oyster special from the raw bar and they were amazing! Everything else was delicious too...we had a great time!
Not a complaint but when I called the day before to confirm our reservation, they asked me if we were coming for a special occasion and I did say it was my boyfriend's birthday. Thought it was strange they would ask and then not do anything about it when we were there...not that we expected anything, but I just thought it was funny of them to ask.

Dined here with friends and
Dined here with friends and yet again had great meals. The oysters were fabulous, as was the special mango margarita. The tuna was great, and the other meals were great as well. Will come back again.

I'd been wanting to try East
I'd been wanting to try East Coast Grill ever since I read an article about it in the NY Times. As a transplanted Southerner, I also was craving good BBQ. When I walked in and smelled the fantastic aroma, I already was in heaven. I got the trio BBQ platter of pulled pork, brisket and dry-rub ribs. Pulled pork was not 100% authentic but still very good. Brisket was very tender and sauce was great. Saved the ribs to take home and haven't had a chance to try them yet. Baked beans were awesome, as was the cornbread (which I just had for breakfast). They also had an interesting and reasonable wine list. My only complaint was that the amount of food for the price seemed a little low.

Try it for brunch too!!
We know East Coast Grill for its wonderful, spicy food for lunch and dinner. Sunday brunch was a pleasant surprise. The restaurant takes reservations for brunch, so you don't necessarily get hit with a long wait. French toast, eggs, terrific spicy sides of sausage, bacon steak and stuffed banana were all outstanding. Coffee was notably good.

Noisy but good
We had a reservation but got seated at a really bad table--tight location and very noisy (right near the bar and the path that all the servers had to take to bring food to the restaurant beyond us). Food was delicious--three of us had the barbecue trio platter and I had the grilled mahi-mahi. But we weren't inclined to linger over our meal due to the noise level, and skipped desert and coffee which we might otherwise have ordered.

Food was quite good and sufficientl
Food was quite good and sufficiently varied choices available. Long list of a la carte sides is a plus. Staff was very helpful. Setting is unpretentious, informal and fits in the active neighborhood scene. The biggest downside is the very loud noise: the open kitchen in the middle of the dining space has a constant din of clanging pots and dishes and this forces the diner conversations to get louder and louder...so not at all conducive to quiet conversation.

Fast service, rich food
My fiancé and I had a great experience. As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted by multiple staff members. Drinks were brought out in moments and the food delicious! The only down moment was when a young teen girl decided to practice her off key singing at the table next to us. Luckily the parents caught on that it was not appreciated (plus she's way too old for that!). Love it!

East Coast Grill is a Neighborhood
We love nothing better than to pop in to the ECG any given night when cooking at home doesn't sound like fun. Awesome service and bar staff. Great drinks. If you are looking for some heat - check out the He** Bones. Great Q and great fish. Love the tuna tacos, the gazpacho, which is often a special, excellent, succulent shrimp and Island Creek oysters at the raw bar, and my personal favorite - the snow crab legs. IT's ALL good here! :)

Energetic atmosphere, great seafood
Took a few business clients out for a casual dinner, and thei fit the bill nicely. Very good drink/beer selections, and the seafood was spot-on. It did get a little noisy, enough to make a conversation difficult, but we enjoyed the experience overall. One comment- they added an 18% tip on the bill for a party of 5, so be careful and check!

Parents were in town from across the country. They wanted seafood. Forget the tourist traps in Boston, East Coast Grill is a great spot! We had a very enjoyable dinner. I love that they now take reservations. My only suggestion would be to serve the crab legs already split or provide scissors. The shells on snow crab legs are very pliable and hard to get open with a "nut cracker".

Good fun and great food!
This is a delightful, comfortable place full of happy people. The service is friendly and efficient and all of the staff greet you warmly. My mango avocado gazpacho was superb - I would definitely order it again, and my husband's big barbecue was delicious and enough for three meals. I had the scallop special - tender and tasteful with a just sweet enough sauce. We will definitely go back.

Awesome service, food, oysters!
The bartenders/oyster shuckers couldn't have been any better! Dined on Friday of memorial weekend, service was impeccable. New favorite spot, we'll be back for sure. Oysters, pulled pork, fries, everything was great!

Still Got It
This place has evolved into a kind institution in Cambridge, and in the process has probably lost a little of it's culinary edge. With that said it's still a really fin place for great cocktails and great food in an urban casual but super-fun atmosphere. A summertime ritual for me, I'll be back soon.
5/27/2013 4:00:00 PM
love the mussels
On what might be our last trip to Cambridge (son graduated) had to go back to this gem for the mussels. They were just as great as we remembered. Just wish we had ordered two instead of one to share. Everything we had was great and the service was wonderful. I had 2 bones which was enough for me. If real hungry get the platter. If we make it back up there will definitely stop by again.
5/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Fantastic as always
Came originally for a hellnight, stayed for the normal fare which was just as good. You owe yourself to come and feast upon their foods!

Great food & service
Great meal. One of our guest wanted Tuna but served in a particular way . . . and not method listed on the menu. The waitress took the order with no problem. When it came out, it wasn't exactly the way our guest wanted it . . . and the waitress noticed that she wasn't eating. The waitress other to provide another dish without be prompted. Our guest declined, the waitress took the dish and took it off the bill . . . the manager came over a few minutes later with another with another piece of tuna . . . prepared differently and very close to what our guest wanted. Still no charge for the fish. The other three meals where great.
Bottom-line, great service & great food. I would definitely go back again.

Scotch Bonnet Martini
I love going to East Coast Grille any time i am in the Cambridge area. The scotch bonnet martini is excellent for spicy/hot enthusiasts. I have never had a bad meal here.

Still Good After All These Years
We hadn't been for several years. The experience still delighted. Service a tad slow -- mainly marred by one dish (steamers -- the easiest to cook!) coming out of the kitchen a good 10 minutes after all the other dishes. But it was as delicious and as fun and as friendly as ever. Two thumbs up. more if I had them.
6/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
great food, loud room
East Coast Grill was recommended by friends and the food was great. It's a loud and bustling place with the exposed kitchen pretty much taking up one side of the dining room. A party atmosphere for sure and a lot of fun. Lots of healthy fish choices or you can turn to the dark side and indulge with some great barbecue. We will be back!
7/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
We celebrated my mother's birthday with her friends. Everyone was very accomodating, the drinks were great, dinner great fun as we ate tapas style. Oysters were outstanding. Everyone had alot of fun and it was reasonably priced. I would highly recommend for a fun night out.
7/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Just great. Try the real thing margarita. Food is great, fun vibe.
Only initial hmmmm was that we were a large party and got seated early on friday in an empty restaurant in the back at a saggy scrunched up booth. Hmmmm. But by 6:45 all cares were gone. We loved it...lively, and quiet enough in the back for us to talk without yelling. I think they have it figured out!
7/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Seafood and BBQ
The food is fantastic. It's a loud active restaurant that lends itself to a very fun time. The staff is all very nice and accommodating. I definitely want to go back and try out the raw bar.

Does not disappoint!
I met a friend at East Coast Grill for lunch last weekend and it was great! I always prefer the non-traditional weekend lunch or brunch and so if that is your cup of tea, I highly recommend East Coast Grill. We ordered the Catfish Po Boy and the Pork Belly sandwich and they were both very flavorful and succulent! If you like spice, definitely inquire about the house specialty hot sauce.
8/2/2013 5:00:00 PM
This was on of the first places my fiancé and I went when we moved to the area and it remains a favorite. Most recently we went for oyster night, the specialty raw bar items did not dissapoint!

Hole in the wall meets fine dining
Creative and delicious food. The fish was really fresh and nicely prepared. We really enjoyed our entrees and the salsa that accompanied the oysters was outstanding, as were the oysters. The mango ice cream with grilled banana dessert was scrumptious and very unique. The waiter was super friendly and took time to chat with us after dinner (we are from NJ).

Awesome spot all around
Couldn't have asked for a better dining experience-food, service, atmosphere were all top-notch. Can't wait to go back.
9/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great bbq, excellent service, starts great with a warm and friendly greeting by the host (I think he is one of the owners).
Food is good. home made pickles really good as well as cornbread.
Now put some banana puddin on the menu (cold) and it will be over the top amazing.

service terrific, wings were just a bit tii hit and they weren't even the hottest. whew!

I have loved this restaurant
I have loved this restaurant for over 20 years. I have not been disappointed yet. The food is fantastic. It is not a fancy place but a fabulous fun place with amazing food.

Pour les amateurs de différent
La nourriture est apprêté à la façon Cajun ou des îles. Nous étions un groupe de six personnes et tous ont appréciés. Service très sympathique.

Hasn't lost a beat
I was worried that the East Coast Grill would drop a notch since it changed hands. No worries! Same great food and vibe. Menu is very similar. This is still a gem if you like seafood and meat done with a nod toward the spicey. Prices have crept up over the years. We clocked in at $110 for two people, but that included the cocktails. You could go to a lot of restaurants in Boston and spend 50-100% more and not get better food. And it would likely not be as imaginative as a grilled peach appetizer, or the amazing pit beans (smokey heaven).
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great place to take adult children
We took our 23 y/o son to dinner here and the combination of relaxed ambience and good quality food was a hit for all. Portions generous and service excellent.
11/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
The restaurant was a great location for a family dinner. We appreciated the offer to sit in the quieter back room which allowed for easier conversation. Our entire group enjoyed the special fried smelts, fish tacos , oysters and ribs.
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
Still a great place. Excellent
Still a great place. Excellent Buffalo shrimp. BBQ was tasty.
11/16/2013 4:00:00 PM
Small menu, big taste
Not a lot to choose from, but if you like ribs and corn bread, or tuna with aged soy and ginger, as we do, then you are set. Everything is wonderful from the pickled veggies , mango iced tea, garlic bread served with a roasted garlic bulb to spread, through to the caramel sauce on vanilla ice cream. We like to sit on the kitchen side which looks out onto Cambridge Street so we can enjoy the bustle of the kitchen as well as the street life going by.

Had drinks, appetizer, 3 entrees, and dessert - all terrific. Wanted to space out the dishes with lots of time for talk in-between - waiter picked up on this right away, and let us sit, talk, and eat through a wonderful evening. Superb all round. - and very comfortable. We want to return to try the barbeque!
11/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great for a Group
We were a group of 12 and the service was outstanding. There were sufficient food choices so that everyone had something delicious. We also appreciated the variety of margarita choices, ranging from sweet to tart.
11/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
I hadn't been to the East Coast lately but I chose it for a recent date, who had been wanting to go there for years but somehow hadn't managed it yet. I feel confident that you have another return customer in her, and likely with me in tow as well.
The food's always great, and this was no exception. Exceptional!
11/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
Incredible service and a funky vibe
Our waitress was very attentive and gave great suggestions. The food was prepared perfectly.
We were seated right next to the open kitchen, which made dinner a bit loud. We didn't mind the noise, but someone who is expecting a quiet dinner might ask to be seated farther towards the back or in one of the side rooms.
