This not a complicated place,
This not a complicated place, but it is sophisticated. The recipes are creative; the cooking and presentation play at the same level. It has all the good attributes of a classic, fine neighborhood restaurant. The feeling is intimate; the service is warm, unintrusive and efficient; and the food is truly good. I would cross town to enjoy 83 1/2.

We had a loveley experience
We had a loveley experience at 83 1/2 on Saturday night. The staff was very friendly and the service was great. Best of all, the food was delicious. A really wonderful treat right in our neighborhood. I look forward to returning.

We had a simple and lovely
We had a simple and lovely meal. Our guests said the tomato sauce on the pasta was great. My chicken was excellent. the small plates we had were delicious-esp. the toast served with them. the panacotta at the end was tart and sweet. a great palette cleanser.

a must try!
What a great find on the UES. The contemporary Italian cuisine is like nothing else you can find in the area. The flavors are unique and wonderful. And the wines alone are worth the trip! Very exciting to have a place like this in the area--a real treat!

This is what good food is about
Small, attractive dining room, friendly, accommodating staff. Our party of four pieced together small plates to share including the artichoke alla Romana from the list of side dishes, an off-beat caponata, the zesty and delicious fricco (cheese crisps with aioli) and breakfast radishes. I'll be returning to work my way through these offerings until I've tasted everything. Our first courses and secondi were uniformly good and beautifully presented. Varied enough, small menu, with a few daily specials announced clearly by our helpful and well-informed waitress. 83 1/2 is a very welcome addition to the relatively few interesting and affordable places committed to good food and service in my neighborhood.

Wonderful dining experience
Wonderful dining experience at small UES restaurant featuring lovely and creative dishes with strong Sicilian influence, owner visited with our group (6) and conveyed genuine passion for his culinary vision, creative and interesting menu, well prepared and priced moderately

Selection too small. Only
Selection too small. Only one fish and one vegetarian pasta on the menu. If they would add to that it would be our weekly dinner out

Perfect date night dinner
Great date night destination. Risotto fritters were so-so but the house pickles and baccala small plates very nice and fresh. Braised octopus was outstanding and our main was the fish special (can't recall type but prepared beautifully, wrapped in escarole and so moist. The brought-in gelato was more like ice cream but the gorgeous homemade pannacotta with Meyer lemon sorbet made up for it and then some. Great wine, attentive staff. We will be back!

Great meal. Food was delicious, but portions relatively small.

Terrific all around. Great
Terrific all around. Great food, great service, what more does one need. Our only complaint was the wine list which was not really "Italiancentric" and considering they strive to emphasize southern Italy in their cooking, a bit disappointing. But it certainly didn't detract from great food.

Can't understand why it wasn't
Can't understand why it wasn't more crowded for dinner last night - the food was delicious and the atmosphere was lovely. My group of four shared all of the small plates and especially loved the Giardinerra and Caponata. The squid appetizer and flat iron steak were also exceptional. My only minor critique would be that the staff could be a bit more proactive. I would love to go back with a smaller group and sit at the bar overlooking the open kitchen.

A terrific UES restaurant with a distinct downtown vibe. The appetizer list is long & varie - particularly delicious are the suppli' - little rice balls given a contemporary lift by the addition of oxtail ragu, frico (Parmeggiano Reggiano fritters) dipped in an intriguing aioli/honey sauce, home made caponata on fabulous Orwasher's peasant bread toast. Owner-chef Vincenzo is committed to a number of things that all come together in this little gem of a restaurant - local, seasonal, Sicillian the most prominently evident in the menu. The sea bass special was served atop a bed of farro accompanied by grilled ramps. The veal was a pefectly fried piece of veal over fregola in a tonnato sauce- a riff on the classic vitello tonnato. A must-go!

food, service--excellent; No doubt it will build momentum and become a mainstay of the UES

Great neighborhood find
This restaurant was opened by one of the coowners of Gino's pizzeria which is right next door. Very different menu and ambience. Food was excellent. The wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable and made great recommendations. My husband and I were very impressed and definitely plan to go back! I would highly recommend this restaurant

Wonderful Neighborhood Spot
Stopped by for a late dinner on Saturday. We were seated at the chef's bar so we could watch Will, the chef, cook. It was amazing. The food, the service, everything was outstanding. We are definitely headed back there...and soon!

Stylish dining located in a neighborhood setting that is a gem. Delicious small plate beginnings presented in sleek dishes prepared were eye catching. The sauce on the side with the Parmesan crisps was enjoyable. Attentive service was given plus a warm and friendly owner was appreciated. Italian quality you can count on such as the gnocchi with selected mushroom was the best coming from an Italian background of mine. Overall all dishes were exceptional and we are planning to return with more of our family members and friends.

Heat wave visit
We went to 83-1/2 without much advance reservation or research and were delightfully surprised!! Each dish interesting without being silly. Really extraordinary cooking, absolutely delicious, GREAT service and not unbearably hot. Their AC was doing it's best but an unbelievably hot night. We had 8 dishes come to the table, one better than the next and probably said "you've GOT to taste this" all 8 times. Some entree servings smaller than others but when the small size of portion of spaghetti was mentioned, they brought a second for the diner, equally delicious. We can't wait to return. GREAT FIND!

Good all around
Very nice setting, interior open but intimate at the same time, food was excellent in terms of taste, preparation, and presentation, service also very good. Extremely satisfying dining experience, but most of all go for the taste. Top notch but not at all stuffy or snooty. Relaxed, comfortable and just elegant enough to make it all feel special.

Fabulous New Restaurant
We went there Sat night and had an extraordinary meal - the appetizers as well as the main course were impeccably prepared. We will definitely go back.

Fantastic UES Gem
83 1/2, one of those hidden gems you can walk past fifty times without noticing, has absolutely raised the bar for fine dining on the UES.
Not to be missed on the Sicilian-based menu are the Goat Cheese Risotto Fritters, Lamb Spiedini, Chicken Liver, Squid alla Plancha, Caponata, every single pasta (especially the Taglietelle with clams and guanciale), the Rabbit, the Bass and the insanely succulent Charred Lamb Breast and house-made donuts. The restaurant also has a great wine list curated by Jean-Luc Le Dû (ex-Restaurant Daniel). Wide selection, all affordable and great.
I would easily stack 83 1/2 against many of the downtown headliners - Babbo, Torrisi - the only difference is it's quieter, cozier and within walking distance.

A Hidden Gem int he UES
Came upon this in Open Table and tried it based on the great reviews. They were all spot on ! Had a great assortment of small plates - every one of which was awesome. Will be back again.

Great UES find!
Loved it! The Stuzzicare happy hour special is unbelievable - $1! We tried almost everything and it was all good. Especially the lamb spiedini, baccala fritti, and frico. Do not miss the gnocci - share with the table if you want an entree or order yourself - it's amazing! Great intimate atmosphere; great waiter!

Very nice place - the limited
Very nice place - the limited menu was not an issue as it was designed cleverly and had enough variety, and the dishes were quite well done and in appropriate size (left us neither hungry nor stuffed). Two small disappointments: some offerings were not available, which given the small menu was both surprising and not great, and the desserts were a bit lacking relative to the main meal, but a good experience nonetheless. Would happily go back, except not for a special occasion.

good food but understaffed
They had one server working and the host and manager had to help serve. They only had six tables filled but had trouble servicing. They need to bring in more people if they're going to succeed. On the upside, the food was excellent although it's a very limited menu. I definitely would try it again and hope they get it together. Nice to have good food in the neighborhood.

Entire staff was so friendly, gave great recommendations on all courses and made us feel welcome the entire time. Will definitely be back soon!

A sleek modern restaurant has moved to the neighborhood with positive energy and wonderful food. We used to eat at another restaurant in the same spot, which closed years ago and we decided to eat in this new "replacement" 83 1/2 had been recommended to us by friends. We tried it and loved the ambiance and the excellent service. We found the food to be much better and more interesting than we expected. Four of us ordered different pastas and each one was excellent. The wine suggested by the waiter was also very good. We will definitely recommend this restaurant to others and really hope it stays in the neighborhood.

Great addition to the neighborhood
Worth it if you are not on the area. Loved everything
Helpful service and attractive decor. Fennel salad and beef cheeks outstanding

Our dinner plans got cancelled and we were 3 people without reservations on a Saturday night. I read the reviews of 83 1/2, which were good and a reservation was available. It was a no brainer to try out a new place. We arrived on time, but picked up another person in our party . The restaurant easily accommodated us. The menu is small, but plenty of choices. The food was delicious and service fine. It was a very enjoyable experience and we will be back.

Had a lovely evening with friends at 83 and 1/2. Food was fantastic--I had the salmon which was fresh and cooked perfectly. The portion size was big--especially compared to other higher end Italian restaurants in the area.
