Dined on a Friday at noon for lunch and was truly satisfied with the level of service and quality of food. The restaurant is split between the bottom floor bar and top floor dining area that makes you feel as though your dining in a nineteenth century townhouse. Originally a speakeasy, the restaurant takes a traditional steakhouse menu and styles it with delicious soups, salads, pastas and fish. This place impresses!

I recently ate here on a business trip to NYC and was pleasantly surprised. I had the tuna crudo appetizer that was fresh and tasty. I followed that up with the lamb loin chop that was outstanding and cooked perfectly with a nice crust seared into the surface.
The other two people in my party shared the porterhouse for two and said it was excellent. There was certainly no issues with the portion sizes of each. We split a few sides that were all nicely prepared: Brussels sprouts, spinach and french fries.
For dessert we ordered the honey apple fritters and a pear tart. The fritters were out of this world, served warm in a cute littler fryer basket beside a delicious sauce. The tart, served chilled, was mediocre.

This was our second time at Bills. We took my 93 year old father in law here for his birthday since he is also named Bill. They staff went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect. The waiters, manager, and hosts all made us feel like the most important people in the restaurant. Despite mixed early reviews, I think the food is now among the best in NYC and the wine list is extensive with many reasonable priced options.

This was my second time at Bills, make sure to reserve in advance.
Staff is friendly, professional and helpful . They gave us time to chat and enjoy our time an we did not feel rushed.
Great ambiance and food was great, although portion was slightly smaller than expected, so we ordered extra French fries which hit the spot!

Testosterone place for lunch!
The food was great, and so was the service - 90% men - not a big deal but definitely on the Old School Chum ambience with a fancy pub-style menu. What is with the goat though?

What a cool spot!
You can't beat the ambiance of Bill's- it's a hidden gem in a very crowded, often mediocre area of Midtown East. The environment is authentic and unchanged, a dark and twisty speakeasy with a live piano player creating a mood like you stepped back in time. The service is excellent with every server and hostess going out of their way to accommodate you with a smile. Drinks are expertly mixed and the wine & spirits list extensive. The food is very good, not excellent, but very good.

The air conditioning was broken
The air conditioning was broken and the dining room was closed for the summer weekend. We ate in the bar--only tables were next to the doors which were open but it was 90 outside. I wouldn't have booked an outside spot in the middle of the summer.

Great Girls' Night Out
We had 8 ladies for a GNO. This was a great place to go! They sat us in a round booth and the service was great! But the decor was so fun and the place was cozy. We had a wonderful time! I would highly recommend this place for groups and for date night.

Would recommend Bill's for a date night. The food is delightful. Be sure to make reservations for the dinner date. If you just want drinks, they have a very energetic bar scene downstairs.

Bills pub and grub
For a mid-week luncheon, met a friend in the bar, which was pungent with bar smells & grimy (although somewhat charming) effects. Upstairs we confronted a solid mass of TOM or Tables of Men. I the only female. Decor is hip & warm & delights the eye, service was spotty-we were served many diff drinks we didn't order which were reallocated to correct patrons. Food was delicious-tuna tartare starter, lump crab starter, Codwich was good only, but the apple crumble was great minus the soured cream topping. All very British except for the blotchy service. Attitude was congenial & professional despite mishaps. Would go again for lunch or dinner with friends or a steady but not for romance or to impress. Overall-good food, nice atmosphere-grimy
