Best in SF for authentic Chinese
It's a a rare thing when you can find a Chinese restaurant dedicated to authentic flavors and preparation while at the same time being served in a clean, modern dining room. nothing comes close in terms of vibe. I cannot remember a Chinese restaurant ever opening their entire kitchen to the dining room allowing diners to see the full prep of their meal. I heard we just missed Martin by a night and frankly, if it we not for the waiter mentioning it, we would never have thought this was a celebrity chef's place since its about the food and experience. My party had a lovely garlic crab (blows away Crustaceans), scallop fried rice and lovely collection of dim sum. The dining room is flat out stunning

Everything about this restaurant was delicious. The service, the wine, the noodles and the dumplings! Prices aren't cheap, but you are getting really qonderful and unique Chinese fare. Please don't be discouraged by the mall location. Make it a point to head here when you have some shopping to do or a movie to see! I look forward to going back. The hand cut noodles (Wild Boar was amazing) are to die for as was the dumpling sampler. We also tried the Kung Pao Chicken, which was extremely flavorful, but maybe a bit dry- my only gripe. Hope you enjoy this place as much as we did.

Chinese with a twist
Martin Yan's SF restaurant is what I imagine would happen if a highly skilled Chinese chef committed himself to working with SF-local produce and cultures. Venison Chow Fun, Pork Belly Sliders - served on Bow buns, spirits from a local distillery, an ice cream desert that looks like a sugared sculpture of a traditional Chinese dish all added up to a wonderful evening for myself.
I was there by myself and so I want to give kudos to the waitstaff and the manager for taking care of me and not rushing me out. I had three courses and two cocktails and was left to enjoy myself for a leisurely 90 mins. And when I didn't like a dessert (the manager could guess, I think) it was replaced with something that made me smile from ear to ear.

Great EVERYTHING -- when not busy
When we arrived, we were seated immediately as per our reservation. The food all came out in a timely fashion, and was wonderful. The wine pairings are accurate enough -- they complement but do not enhance the food, which is just fine.
Our waiter started off top-notch, and remained extremely courteous throughout service. Unfortunately, as the restaurant filled up, he seemed to disappear for an unfortunate length of time.
The VALUE (price vs. quality and quantity) of food is excellent.

This is just only a suggestion.
This is just only a suggestion. We wish to see more of the hand pulled noodle performance. Everyone seemed enjoy the performance especially for young children. They got so excited about it. We recommend that the performance partakes every 30 minutes instead of one hour because the noodle performance is only lasted for one minute. It was too fast. Thank you.

Best all around Chinese in SF
When you combine the ambiance, the straight-forward menu with both classic dishes and a few modern surprises and the unpretentious service, I give M.Y. China my vote for best Chinese restaurant in San Francisco. Our party this weekend had many of the regular dishes we have when we come by for our monthly Chinese fix but this time we were surprised that they've added a couple of intriguing dishes like the venison chow fun (I love the quality of the noodles they pull there), a snake soup (it was surprisingly delicious, one brave soul ventured) and a whole roasted quail. Can you imagine finding those dishes in your local Chinese neighborhood place let alone a PF Changs??? All of our food was great and the service was really great.

M.Y. first time
Great brunch experience with 5 others. Everyone liked the food. Prices - pretty reasonable. We were to bring our own wines. Will be back.

Good food and atmosphere
A very cool place in a shopping mall. The chefs make the noodles right there and some times they will wander through the restaurant twirling the dough. The menu has some classic Chinese dishes and offers Dim Sum as well. There are a few dishes that have a little bit of a twist to them and for those who want to sample a little bit of everything there are small plates as well. My date and I went to town and she discovered a pretty cool drink on the menu. A Nixon something, can't remember the full name. It tasted like a cucumber but had plenty of alcohol in it.

M.Y. China is a big thumbs up!
I heard about Martin Yan's new restaurant a few months back and have been looking forward to trying it out. I was not disappointed at all. A great location, and great food!

MY China Delivers!
This was our first (and sure to return) visit. The decor and energy were wonderful. The food was excellent! We loved the crispy spring rolls, Mu shu pork tacos, Kung Pao chicken, Chairman Mao's chicken and Squid Ink Snap Noodles! Our waitperson was fine, not as friendly or helpful as I'd like.

Amazing food moderate service
The food at MY China is always good. The Chef, Tony Wu, holds a world record in noodle pulling and you can taste it in the noodle dishes he creates. I particularly liked the Beef Noodle Soup with hand made noodles. This is one of the very few restaurants you can watch both the wok and the other stations from the dining room. You can even see people at the noodle station making the hand pulled noodles the traditional Chinese way. The decor, silverware etc. are all very nice, bar is small but fits its purpose. Our server (the bartender) was also very good. He was attentive, polite and quick to act. My only complaint would be the management and the hosting. The host was seating people incorrectly and not following the reservations.

Yet another great place to
Yet another great place to have a nice lunch for a business meeting in the Union Square area. The food is quite good - but don't expect to get out for cheap - this is not your hole in the wall Chinese place...

From the moment we sat down until the moment we left everything was perfect. Excellent waitress, excellent food.
9/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great restaurant, it's been a long time since we've had a good Chinese, and this was superb! Staff were friendly and helpful over our choices from the menu, would definately recommend this place.

Great food and attentive service.
Great food and attentive service. Table space close, noisy. Disappointed that we were sat right next to another couple when there were MULTIPLE other options for our party of four to have a more private table. This lack of common sense took away from a great experience.

M.Y is great
Very conveniently located within the Westfield Mall, don't let the "retail" location fool you into thinking it is not quality food. Excellent and entertaining.

First time, will go back
We really liked all the food we tried at MY China. The pickles and dumplings were both a good start. Then we had the longevity noodles soup and it was another winner. We ate in one of the booths in the atrium and it was pretty nice. It's a little strange eating at a restaurant at the mall, but the food was good and it's a pretty nice mall.

M.Y. China is great
This was my first time at M.Y. China in San Francisco. The ambience, food and service were all excellent. We ordered 5 "small" dishes to share among three people. The "small" dish would be a lot of food for two people and just about right for three people. Since we ordered five dishes, we had plenty for lunch the next day. The service was quick, friendly and efficient. I will be back.

Always enjoy M.Y. China
This is the third time I've been there recently. Really enjoy the food and great service. Tried the Beijing knife cut noodles for the first time, great, a little spicy. The Beijing duck with buns was also very good.

Overall Great Presentation
This place gets better with each visit. We enjoyed dishes from every section of the menu. All standouts. It's amazing how the mall scene falls away when stepping into this restaurant. Once inside, you feel as though your dining in a free-standing restaurant. Thanks to entertaining vibe and beautiful space. Looking forward to our next visit.

Martin Yan lives up to his knowledge about food. The wait staff was very helpful in deciding how to order for the 3 of us. The portion sizes are smaller than what you get at Americanized Chinese places, but the taste comes though. It would have been to able to sit in front of the cooks, however it makes it a little difficult to pass sharing plates. We did sit close enough to see them made hand pulled noodles and what show it is. Overall a very pleasant dinning experience.

Fantastic Food w. Excellent Service
The food is truly excellent at this place. the ingredients they use are fresh, you can see everything being made to order and it truly comes through in the taste. Our server was excellent too and they were very accommodating to some people in our group with food allergies. the kitchen was able to accommodate those food allergies without sacrificing taste.

This was my first time at
This was my first time at M.Y. China and I really enjoyed it. We came with a large group, and our server handled our requests very well -- I was very impressed. We had a variety of dishes that gave us a good sense of the restaurant overall; my favorite was the juicy dumplings, which were a great rendition of the more traditional xiao long bao. The mixed dumpling platter was also excellent, and fun to try different items. I would definitely return.

I usually don't like fancy Chinese restaurants. But I love Martin Yan, so I had to try it. And the food was wonderful! Very creative and tasty. We ordered the Peking Duck dinner. It's a ton of food for 2 people. Recommend it for at least 3 people. The sugar egg puffs -- similar to beignets.....yummmmmm.....

Good 4 large party&intimate setting
I have been here multiple times and I was never let down. Food in general is good. Their lettuce cup is fresh and the combination of meat and some crunchy element can be addictive. I love their kang pao chicken because they fry may be sweet peppers? and they become almost like rice crackers. They are so tasty. They use chicken breast which my husband prefers and they are cooked perfectly. Tender and moist. Their half portion Peking duck is a good portion. We have left over after sharing with 7 adults. They have good desert too.

Basic staples to exotic dishes
I love the elegant yet energetic feel of this place. It is the only restaurant with master noodle pullers performing in front of your eyes - a truly unique experience for adults and children alike. All the dough is made on site, so the texture of the dumplings and noodles were absolutely delicious. We also loved the buffalo lettuce cups, pork belly sliders and sauteed shrimp dishes. This past weekend we tried the Dragon Feast Menu which had very exotic dishes - of note were the crocodile skewers which were surprisingly tender and delicious! To top it off, Chef Tony carved an amazing dragon centerpiece for our table out of summer squash, pineapples, and strawberries - simply beautiful. Will definitely return to try the other dishes!

Yan Can Cook!
My husband and I loved this restaurant. The ambiance was energetic, but comfortable. The service was great and the food was beautifully presented. We had the exotic golden dragon menu. Though not all items in the five courses were to my taste, it was a fantastic experience. We are looking forward to sampling the regular menu at M.Y. China when we return to San Francisco.

Best Asian in SF
This restaurant is by far the best asian restaurant in SF. The ambiance is very inviting and entertaining with the noodle pulling in the open kitchen. The food is absolutely fantastic. You must try the roasted chicken, spicy seafood dumplings, hot and sour soup and the green beans. The staff is very friendly and the service is excellent!
10/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Yan still can!
Great friendly service! Really good food! Loved the Whole Wheat potstickers, Dan Dan Noodles, Venison Chow Fun, and the Egg Puff dessert.
10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
I dined here last night and the food was so delicious, my mouth is watering and I would love to go back tonight! The dumpling trio cannot be missed. The entire staff was friendly and professional.

The food has been consistently
The food has been consistently awesome. I have been here 11 times since it's opening and I have enjoyed every meal. My favorite dish is the Sweet & Sour Pork, which is so, so different than a typical Chinese restaurant. The quality of the pork is outstanding and even friends that don't ordinarily like that dish, really like it. The ribs are delicious, as are the beef dishes. I'm also pleasantly surprised by the large portions of each dish.
Interestingly enough, this restaurant opened up about the same time as Hakkasan, but there is no comparison. The MY China food is light years ahead and is a much greater value.

MYCHINA improves with each visit
This is my 3rd visit to MYCHINA and I am glad that I like it more each time. This time had the wonton egg flower soup - the wontons are bite size small and the slightly thickened soup with egg white "flower" has a nice chicken stock flavor. The Wild Boar (pork!) lettuce cups are delightful both in presentation and taste - the tender chew of the pork sits on top of a bit fried rice noodles all nestle in a perfect lettuce cup. The Venison chow fun is also flavorful, the venison comes in nice cubes that has that high heat wok seared taste and is medium rare in the middle; the chow fun is silky if on the oily side. Dessert is the go-to sugar puffs with a trio of dipping sauces. A pot of chrysanthemum tea goes well with the entire meal.

Fantastic Chinese food that do not leave you thirsty the rest of the day. I love it!!!

Every dish was better than last
We had a wonderful meal here to celebrate my teen's birthday. We ordered way too much - and eat it all. Even saved room for the yummy sugar puffs - with chocolate, raspberry and cream sauce - heavenly. The peking duck was a standout!

I love MY China for dinner
I love MY China for dinner before going to the theatre or symphony. Order cocktails, get some dim sum and small plates and sides, and have a great time. If you're seated by 6pm, you can easily have a nice dinner like this that doesn't feel rushed and that still leaves you plenty of time to get to the theatre.
On the dinner menu, my current favorites are the spicy seafood dumplings, the crab and pork dumplings, the bok choy (a surprising standout!), and the mu shu pork tacos. Avoid the calamari (rubbery, overcooked) and the noodles (chewy, undercooked). Always order a Singapore Sling.
The biggest problem with MY China is the service. Initial service is slow, and they rarely check back in on you.

Everything we ordered was delicious---extremely long waits between plates and our server was neither helpful nor concerned.

Chinese under a Dome
We had a great dinner at M.Y. China - SF recently. Our favorite menu items were the whole-wheat (wrapped) pot stickers and the very meaty Chairman's Chicken. Unexpected entertainment came when two staff members displayed acrobatics by thick ropes of dough for a large dining group. The restaurant is located on the top floor of a large indoor mall (San Francisco Center, with Bloomingdale's and Nordstrom), very close to the dome left over from the (now defunct) Emporium years. One gets there by going either up a series of dramatic escalators or in an elevator. The décor is clean and modern; the menus were in Chinese red covers; it is all very attractive. The moderate price for such a value pushes the overall rating to Outstanding.

Great Dim Sum
If you're looking for fancy Chinese food, this place serves it up. The feel of the restaurant, despite it being in the Westfields shopping center, is very Vegas. The dim sum was pretty darn good too. I wish we had tried more off the menu but next time I will. Great selection, service was on top.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
The "juicy dumplings" were outstanding; fillings not available anywhere else… wild boar, truffles and pork, and crab. Their noodles are also another draw and you can watch them hand-pull them before you eat them!
11/11/2013 4:00:00 PM
This was my second (and better) visit to this restaurant. We ordered the wild boar noodles, spicy seafood dumplings, Kobe beef, and (through a mistake because of the noise level) the dim sum platter. This is not your hole -in -the wall Chinatown restaurant. Located near the rotunda, this upscale restaurant offers a respite from the mall and offers a refined Chinese menu. The beef was delicious. The dim sum platter was the big surprise with the quality of the bun, rice tamale, and dumplings. This restaurant is not inexpensive but offers fresh and high quality ingredients. Be aware that the noise level will not encourage intimate conversation. (We were there at 12:30 on a Friday afternoon.)

It's Not Your Usual Mall Fare
M.Y. China (Martin Yan) is a pleasant and delicious departure from usual shopping mall fare: the food is tasty and well prepared and the cocktails are artful. All in all, I'd go there even when not shopping!

I thought the food was good. One of friends found the food very spicey and she loves spicey food. I thought the service and food were good.

Interesting restaurant. They spent a fortune on decorative appointments, but the restaurant is not attractive, and the feel is much too moderate for the price of the food. Tablecloths and small floral centerpieces or candles would help a lot. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, but it took a VERY long time for food to arrive and nothing is offered to eat during this wait. The pace was sluggish and the serving order was off -we ordered shared dishes and the salad came toward the end, even though we asked for it early. The food, however, is truly delicious, and well-presented. I would return for the good, but the restaurant needs to dress up and then figure out how to get the food on the table.
