Not what I expected.
I was expecting to have the brunch that was on the menu which was supposedly 2 courses and a free cocktail for $24.00. However, instead there was a special father's day buffet which I wasn't aware of. The food was delicious, but more of a lunch than brunch. And it cost $30.00 with no free cocktails. My dining companions were not meat eaters; the brunch menu had several options for them; the buffet was heavy on the meat though, so although they found enough to eat it wasn't worth $30. So all in all I was disappointed. Taht being said, the atmosphere and the space were great and I still want to go back again and sample their brunch and dinner menus.

Recently dined here for a first date. This place hit everything out of the park. GREAT, accommodating, friendly, knowledgable staff. St at the bar for a cocktail before dinner. The bar has lots of room, prices are on par. HUGE wine and beer list, along with a great selection of signature cocktails. After a drink, we were seated immediately.
Waitress was so friendly, and nice. She had made a few recommendations from the interesting menu. Appetizer came out and was delicious. Following the appetizer, the meals were served at the perfect time (waitress was on point) I ordered gnocchi which was out of this world (looks heavy, but was actually light) my date ordered diver scallops.

Great service and food
Our waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly. The food was excellent, and I'm glad we got the desserts (the "jars" and cinnamon toast crunch ice cream) which were amazing. Definitely recommend. The prices were not outrageous considering the quality/gourmet nature of the food.

At the top of the list
We've been to Pig & Prince repeatedly with friends, with families, with / without children and have always found the food, the ambiance, and the service naturally pleasant and accommodating. Highly recommend; give it a try.

Good Food but don't go Sunday Night
Food was excellent - really neat protein/side pairings, great beer and wine list. The lamb 3 ways was excellent as was the duck
unfortunately, there were about 3 things the table ordered (Including the daily special) that were out of stock due to 8:00 sunday night reservation, and being closed on Monday

Highly recommend the cold cuts and cheese platter.
Entrees were delicious. The gnocchi and the gumbo were very good.
The desserts were outstanding. I have a sweet tooth, so to me, they were the highlight of the meal. The spicy chocolate ice cream dessert has very good, if that is your thing. I had the donut bread pudding with the cinnamon toast crunch ice cream. It tastes as good as it sounds.
Overall everything was very good.

Glad It's Here
I think Pig & Prince is a good addition to the Montclair restaurant options. The space feels and looks great--love the old tile, windows,, and soaring ceiling. The food is not as impeccable as at this chef's previous restaurant, Passione, but it is still pretty good.

Cool little spot
Loved the way the place was decorated and the wait staff was awesome. Greet wine/beer menu as well. I'm not the biggest "foodie" so some of the meals were lost on me, but everyone in the party enjoyed their meals quite a bit and I did enjoy my burger. The Cinnamon Toast Crunch Ice Cream is amazing!!

Historic setting; outstanding food
Dinner with my wife on 7/20. Initially a bit disappointed that the table I'd reserved (and that the restaurant had called to confirm) wasn't ready and was told there'd be a 1/2 hour wait -- or we could sit at a "high" table near the bar. But the food and service more than compensated for that. Meats/cheese platter was out of this world; great recommendation on a beer accompaniment. Main course didn't disappoint either; I went with a special gumbo, my wife with the duck. Both were perfect. And dessert couldn't have been better. And it's not breaking the bank either - about $140 for 2 people, including drinks & dessert.

We will be back.

Terrific food; Nice Atmosphere
We tried the restaurant after seeing it highlighted in NJ Monthly some time ago. The food was excellent. We sampled the artisian cheeses which were great. The sausage risotto and BBQ pork loin was terrific. We had one of the best pinot noirs (from The Pinot Project). Deserts were very good too. Noise level was a little high because of the exposed brick (even though it was mid-week and not very crowded.
Definitely would return.

A Nice Experience
Wonderful service from Damon and manager, Michael. The "Pig" in the title is a little misleading. We were expecting to find a few special pork dishes; but, that is not the case. The salumi plate was amazing and the rest of the meal very good. The only disappointment was the wine list, which is very limited. Hope to visit again soon.

Terrific and unusual
First, the setting is sublime, a restored railway station, very grand. Next, the service could not be more friendly, from the hostess who greeted us, to the bartenders who gave us wonderful service (and later excellent advice on the wine), to the waiter who did everything possible to accommodate us. And the food? It was very unusual, with wonderful combinations. We remembered the chef from Passionee, where we had always loved his food. We were a party of four, and everyone was delighted with what he or she had ordered. And, as full as we were, the desserts were not to be missed. Pig and Price is a wonderful find.

Some great food, particularly cold cuts and pates, a great bar, wonderful ambiance, but the kitchen and service can be overloaded on weekend nights and service may really be slow..

Service above and beyond
We noted that it was our anniversary when we booked the open table-- a complimentary half-bottle of Champagne was waiting along with a romantic corner table. Service was just the right combination of solicitous and discreet. Meats and cheeses platter (especially cheeses) up to the best I've had. Lamb entree perfection, tilefish had sat a bit long waiting for the lamb I think. Sorbets wonderful for dessert--try the bay leaf. Wine recommendations spot on and within our budget. Would certainly visit again, especially for a special occasion!

Past and Prersent remain the Same
As in the past (at Passionne), the food is superb. The PEI mussels were outstanding. The duck and lamb were cooked to perfection. You can't go wrong.
8/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
awesome fusion here
the food was so tasty and the descriptions on the menu are spot on. the menu also changes often to keep the items refreshed and new.
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food is quite good, however, we think they could change the menu a bit... Seems like they are trying so very hard to be different that if some people who go there may be turned off or have a very limited choice of foods. Otherwise, the place is nice, staff friendly, food good, and ambiance nice.
8/27/2013 5:00:00 PM
Food and service were excellent. Will certainly return.

Interesting Menu Items
First time at the Pig and the Prince. Very interesting menu with items not usually offered at other places.
Staff was warm and knowledgeable on the history of the historic train station building that the restaurant is located in.

The Pig and Prince was a great
The Pig and Prince was a great Montclair find. When I walked in, I was awed by the high ceilings and ambience. I then was impressed with the unique dishes on the menu and the presentation of the food. I was only hoping that the taste of the food would live up to my new expectations. It did! Everything was absolutely delicious. Save rom for dessert! The "Take it in a Jar" desserts are to die for. Enjoy!

Montclair Meets Manhattan
Pig & Prince is truly a remarkable find in Montclair. The incredible restoration of the historic Lackawanna Train Station was achieved by blending the architectural elements of the original building with modern design. Seeing the restaurant in person is the only way to appreciate what has been accomplished. Words simply do not convey the beauty of the space. Chef Michael Carrino's menu changes with the seasons offering the diner delectable selections from which to choose. My friends and I have eaten here many times to include brunch. His imaginative combinations are found in every dish. We are very excited to be able to enjoy an evening of fine dining in such a magnificent setting.
9/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had drinks outdoors and dinner inside with no complaints from the waitstaff all of whom were good to very good. Food was delicious but I thought the prices were high for the portion sizes. Mixed drinks - excellent with nice variety. Will definitely go again.
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
My dining experience was awesome!!!
I loved the casual feel of the restaurant. The service was impeccable and our server gave us great advice about the food and the portions. The homemade sour dough bread, the fennel salad and the hanger steak were all delicious and the dessert was die for!! I am definitely returning many more times to savor more dishes. Also, the price was right.

Loving Great Food
The food was amazing! We had sausage risotto, pork loin, mussels with andouille,an appetizer special, arugula salad and charcuterie plate - all superb. We love coming to P&P and have never been disappointed. Very highly recommended!

Food was unique and desserts were amazing. They make their own ice cream which was to die for.

A good meal !
Small Plates were good to try something new...pork belly, duck etc. Entree's are good but small and pricey. Good Wine and Drinks. Yummy Chocolate Tart and Chocolate Peanut Butter Jar... A nice evening with close friends.

Pig and Prince date night
We went to P&P on a Saturday night for a date. We first went to the bar which was crowded (in a good way) and received friendly and good service after only a few minutes. The best part of our meal was our entrees, which were the BBQ rubbed pork and the cod. Both were delicious. The mussel appetizer was good, but quality of mussels within the dish were variable. My husband had spicy chocolate ice cream dessert and felt that it was too spicy for dessert. The peanut butter smore "in a jar" was awesome. The red velvet in a jar was ok. Everyone from the hostess to our server were very friendly. However, our server was SLOW. We sat at one point with no drinks & done with dinner and wanting to order dessert. Service lacking a bit, but good night.

This restaurant turns out
This restaurant turns out consistently good food. The menu is constantly changing. The wine list and cocktail menu are fabulous. It is one of the only places around with interesting and delicious cockatils. Although Montclair is a BYOB town, it is definitely worth checking out this restaurant for the ambiance, farm-to-table food, and the wine & specialty cocktail selection.
10/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
The only compliant I have
The only compliant I have is that the food is way over priced for the portion that you receive !
10/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Went for brunch recently and overall it was a good experience. We had a 1pm reservation for Sunday brunch and the place was pretty empty when we got there. Their brunch menu is fairly limited, but the brunch drinks were fantastic! One of the best bloody Mary's I have ever had and you must try their signature 4 shooter Piggy Back drink. You won't be sorry.

Went to Pig and Prince prior to a show at the Wellmont. Will be back - handpicked wine and beer list, energetic bar scene. Beautiful Decor.

great change different menu
A good change from usual dining experience with local farm to table ingredients. Knowledgeable staff and attentive service. Portions not huge but they do not need to be. One does not feel rushed. Beautiful decor.

Unusual menu; for the sophisticated
Lots of inventive and unusual items to consider. Pigs ears, wild boar chops-you get the idea. Lots of more conventional items as well all prepared with an inventive and pleasing approach. Lots of wine and beer choices. Good wait staff.

Fun Saturday night
We have visited the bar but this was the 1st time for dinner. The ambiance is excellent. Our waiter never wrote down a thing and all was great. My app of octopus pasta was really good. Wild boar entree very different. Deserts were excellent. We shared a cheese course- the honey was very unique flavor- really good.

Good food, great atmosphere
This is an eclectic restaurant in a converted train station. The food is very good with unusual combinations of flavors - spicy chocolate ice cream (ice cream with cayenne pepper) is one example - and the portions were more than enough. The bar had a great selection of unusual cocktails and beers, and a good wine list. Prices were high, but we were very happy with our experience.
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
The restaurant is located adjacent to a supermarket and a challenged shopping center. Do not pay attention to that. As soon as you are in the restaurant it is a different world. Enjoyed everything and a very pleasant experience.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
The Pig and the Prince was a pleasant surprise! We enjoyed every aspect of our dining experience. Chef Michael came out to speak to us about his farm to table food approach. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant for the food and the incredible atmosphere! A GEM!
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
Food was very good. We went early when it was quiet. But don't go before 5, because they cannot serve before that.

Thoroughly enjoyable dining experie
I met a friend for a mid-week dinner. It was my first time dining at Pig and Prince, so everything was new to me. From the moment I entered the restaurant, I knew it would be an exceptional evening, and it was. Service, ambiance, and quality of food with wonderful presentation equaled a spectacular dining experience. I will return, for sure.
11/18/2013 4:00:00 PM
My husband and I plus another couple enjoyed dinner last Friday, 11/23. It was our second visit and their first. Each of us chose a different entree. All were unbelievably delicious! The desserts were divine! Our waiter was direct from central casting - perfect in every way! We are very much looking forward to our next visit.
11/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
not much improvement
We dined here soon after it opened and felt that some of the service issues might be caused by inexperience, but sad to say, they seem to still be there more than a year later. The restoration is lovely, the menu is varied and interesting. When I asked if it were possible to make a pasta dish vegetarian, the server forgot to ask the chef. My arugula salad was bland - no sharpness to the greens or taste to the dressing. The pasta, without the meat, turned out very well. We were not offered cheese or pepper. Our water glasses were refilled only when requested. But our guests enjoyed their meals and we would probably give it a third try.
