Super authentic Puerto Rican
Super authentic Puerto Rican food - hard to find these anywhere - especially in Boston. Good atmosphere, tasty and well priced.

Best Puerto Rican Food
Every single dish was amazing. The food is so flavorful and plentiful! This is great place for groups, couples and families. I have been here for a girl's night out, date night and most recently a big birthday dinner. Each time, I have been more impressed with the last. The drinks are dangerously delicious- everyone must try the Guava Mojito! All of the staff is amazing but if you have Alejandro- he is the best! :)

My New Fav Restaurant
Aside from the food and service being IMPECCIBLE (Thanks to our server Victor). The birthday song and celebration was an extra treat for everyone in the restaurant as the waiters came out in vejigante masks. One word: AMAZING!

This is the second time I've been, and once more everything we were served was delectable. Plus Vejiganta is the ONLY place in Boston civilized enough to warm the milk if you ask for it with tea.
I'll be back many more times.

Loved the food! Aranitas are the best I've had ever! The service was very good and the mojitos were excellent! Loved the decor... My only suggestion would be to eliminate the TV sets... They do not go with the ambiance in the restaurant and are useless...

We really enjoyed our meal
We really enjoyed our meal here. Got the steak chimichuri, the green plantain with the crab salad appetizer, the seafood piella and the lobster in the creole type sauce. They were all OUTSTANDING especially the lobster, which was a bargain for $23. our watiress could not have been better. I will be back.

A unique and positive experience...
We had a very positive first visit to Vejigante recently. With all the great dining options in the South End, Vejigante is a refreshing option. The food was excellent, the drinks excellent, and the value for price paid, even better. The atmosphere was lively without being too loud. For a smallish dining room, we didn't feel crushed by fellow diners. Service was friendly, knowledgeable, and mostly attentive. We did have a reservation but still had to wait 20-25 minutes before we could be seated...not a great first impression but we quickly forgot about that after sipping on our drinks. Overall, definitely will be returning for the unique menu and good drinks.

We went as a party of 11 to Vejigante's on a Saturday evening for a birthday party. The drinks were spectacular, the food delicious, and the ambience festive. Complimentary valet parking available.

This was a real find. There
This was a real find. There was a glitch with the reservation, but it was taken care of promptly and we were seated. I am a fan of plaintains, so this was heaven. The special scallo appetize we had was particularly good. Reasonably priced and a very nice atmosphere. A nice outdoor seating area as well. We will be back.

Home Sweet Home
If you are looking for typical Puertorican food, this is the place for you. I've been to a lot of Spanish restaurants and this is by far the real Spanish food. The alcapurias appetizers is a must and bacalaitos. The food was just delicious and it really takes you back home to the island. The place is smaller than I thought but with the music and food that's secondary.

Real Puerto Rican food
What a find! Authentic food, great service, family friendly. And reasonable prices.

Reliving a Brit's love of PR food
Great restaurant!! Took a brittish friend there that had visited me in Puerto Rico and he thought it was one of the best mofongos he's ever had!
5/27/2013 4:00:00 PM
Will go back
My wife loved the seafood special of the night: a stew with rock lobster, mussels and shrimp in a pot lined with a crust of cassava and plantain. My seafood paella with rock lobster, mussels, clams, shrimp, and calamari was good but I wish they had put greater amounts of the spices in. It wasn't bland, but a little under-flavored. The music was lively, but too loud for conversing. Next time I will probably ask them to turn it down. The restaurant was attractive and has the option of dining outside in front of the restaurant. Service was good.
6/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Every time I visit Vejigantes it is an outstanding experience. From the food to the service to the ambiance it is always a great night!!!
6/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent Puerto Rican food!
We've been here several times and have yet to have a bad meal. They are all so good it's hard to pick a favorite:)

MUST TRY PUERTO RICAN FOOD!
Absolutely delicious. Great food, great drinks, incredible atmosphere. Unlike anything else in Boston. You won't recognize anything on the menu but find something that sounds good and order it--it will be delicious.

Thank you for the most amazing meal
Victor was an outstanding waiter. He took pictures for us, interpreted my really bad Spanish and also made my mom's Surviving Burn Anniversary amazing. He even came out and sang happy birthday and we couldn't have been happier!
It was a perfect day and it was because you all took the time to make it that! THANK YOU!
7/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
My family celebrated my mom's bday at Vejigante. We hail from Arroyo, PR and were keeping our fingers crossed for authentic food! It was truly SABROSO!!! My only regret is that we noted on our reservation that it was my mom's bday and they didn't bring anything out but the check. :(

Slice of Puerto Rico
Food is authentic to Puerto Rico and the selection is deep. The staff is bi-lingual, knowledgeable and friendly. Prices are moderate and the ambiance is fantastic.
7/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Finally good PR food close to home!
Need more consistency in the kitchen and bar.
Sangria was fantastic, a tamarindomartini was too sweet and had some salty piton the bottom that was NOT tamarindo.
The alcapurrias were perfect, the yuca frita limp and underdone,(it was taken off the bill).
The eggplant dish with chimichurri was delicious,, as we're aranitas.
The mofomgo with churrasco was well prepared, suggest the sauce on the side, as otherwise it would be too salty.
Overall good place, would recommend,
We did not try it but saw a paella for two go by that we will be ordering next time!

Vibrant Little Hot Spot
I have been wanting to go to Vejigantes for a while now and I am glad I finally did! The menu was very plentiful. Although their offerings were mostly seafood dishes (as expected) they have more than a few others that will please any none sea food lovers (Or people who are allergic to shellfish like me). We decided to try many smaller appetizers and small dishes to get a range of flavors and tastes as opposed to two larger more expensive entrees. We had the grouper ceviche & conch salad that were both delicious and tangy! (If you haven't had conch before I would try it here, it was prepared well and was not intimidating to any newbies). We also enjoyed the pork mofongo and a skirt steak dish. Both were excellent! Check out their drinks too!
8/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
good food, great service
I like this place for something a bit different. The ceviche was quite good, as were the mojitos. One of our dishes was way too salty (the garlic shrimp and lobster over cassava), but the paella was very good. Service was very pleasant and attentive,
8/7/2013 5:00:00 PM
My friend and I booked this place at the last minute. We were pleasantly surprised. The white sangria and empanadas were excellent.
I felt like I was actually in PR. Would definitely return.
(I also got to enjoy it for two additional days with the leftovers!)
8/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent place, great drinks and food is the closest I've found to true Puertorican food.
8/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Place To Eat
Not only is the location a great place and a representation of Puerto Rico for this restaurant (Villa Victoria), the food here is absolutely amazing. This and Merengue Restaurant, their Dominican sister restaurant, are the best Spanish restaurants in Boston!
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food and service
My only criticism would be that the music was way too loud
8/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great place to try authentic Puerto Rican food! Get the chicharróns, they are life changing.
9/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
a great alternative
We went again and had a wonderful meal. the steak with chimichuri sauce was excellent and a very good price. also got lobster in creole sauce which was delicious (much better than the lobster tail and shrimp in garlic which was very salty). the ceviche was swimming in lime juice which was just a bit too much to enjoy the fish. The drinks were great and the service was very friendly and attentive. A great option for something different in the south end.
9/10/2013 5:00:00 PM
Adorable and Delicious
We went here for my friend's bachelorette party and had a fantastic time! Noise level was good. We had a great table and the food was delicious! They even brought out a flaming dessert and sang to her! Price point is wonderful too! Dinner for seven for $300 with lots of food and drinks. Portion sizes were large, I would encourage sharing!
9/13/2013 5:00:00 PM
Can't lose with this place. Never had a bad meal. There were four of us, so we split apps and entrees. Seafood Paella was great and the Paella with the chicken and chorizo was top-notch....highly recommend. Everyone loved the Yucca Mofongo with shredded roast pork inside. Meduros (fried ripe plantains) are always fantastic, and the Sangria is just right. Great place.
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food is amazing. I have been here twice and everything I ordered was delicious. If your going to have dessert have the tres leches cake! Everyone in my party loved it and even stated they would come back just for the dessert! The food is jam packed with flavor. This restaurant is a great representation of Puerto Rican cuisine and you must go!

Viva la Puerto Rico
Vejigante is a great post-theater option in a neighborhood full of wonderful choices, and is more reasonably priced than the competition. The staff was knowledgeable and the food delicious. We highly reccomend the paella.
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly...lovely spot!

San Juan in the South End
Latin music, colored lights, plates piled high, and great service. What's not to like? Vejigante, in the quarters of the former Don Ricardo, features Puerto Rican food aplenty. You can sit outside when weather permits and enjoy the street life of the Villa Victoria.
Prices are moderate. A real addition to the neighborhood.
10/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Took my girlfriend for her birthday and they went beyond to make everything perfect has, never been disappointed
The time that I been there always great food and excellent service.
10/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
fun and frugal! we love vejigantes!
ok, so the food is not gourmet and sometimes just adequate, but this is a fun place with decent enough food and prices are fair and wont break the bank. not being puerto rican cant judge how authentic the food is. the staff is very very exuberantly nice! we loved the music and the sangria. lots of fried items, not always as well coooked as it could be....and lots of heavy starches, yucca and plaintain in most dishes...but that's the cuisine. pretty good ceviche...and we all loved the mufongo with pork! the fish was overcooked, but the overall atmosphere and service made up for that in our minds. our coconut flan was tasteless. should have ordered the tres leches! the south end needs more places like this! cheap and cheerful!

Nice little Gem
We're very glad we stopped by. Food was great, authentic and plentiful. No parking but valet is available at no cost - just a tip.
We will be back soon!!

Best Puerto Rican food since
Best Puerto Rican food since we were on the island itself!

Puerto Rico on your plate
We love this place!
The food is delicious, the service friendly and the space welcoming. Paellas are high on my list there, but everything we tried is good. The "hot" sauce our waiter brought us to try did have a kick, but not too much and brought some interesting flavors to our respective dish.
Wine prices are reasonable and the sangria delicious!
10/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
As a first time visitor to Boston, this was a fabulous find for a married couple "date night". We enjoyed the experience so much that we brought a large group of friends for dinner two nights later.

Authentic Puerto Rican food
This restaurant reminded us of our fun filled vacation in Puerto Rico. We stayed at La Concha but we ate at all of the local places recommended by the the hotel staff:) We can't wait to go back and try a few more items from the menu:)

We'll Be Back!
After living in the area for several years we finally had dinner at Vejigante and we are so glad we did! Everything from the service to the food to the atmosphere was wonderful. We had wonderful fish and seafood and can't wait to return and try other dishes. This is a true neighborhood gem!
