I go to the Blue Spoon quite
I go to the Blue Spoon quite often and am a regular Open Table reservation-maker. As I have written a review before, I can say nothing that is different or new. I go back because they do a great job and the food is great. Why do you ask for an email address since it is you who emailed me?

This Munjoy Hill restaurant
This Munjoy Hill restaurant is a real gem. The food is prepared with care using local sourced ingredients. Serving portions are more than ample, great "first bites" that are really sized as a decent "starter"; eclectic choices for everyone's palate. Decent but not spectacular wine list; however, if you enjoy a good microbrew they have many excellent choices including several European craft beers. Intimate small eatery, not a lot of elbow room, you can feel a bit packed in when the restaurant is full (I think they can serve 24), however, it doesn't detract from the experience. I'm quite pleased with the Blue Spoon, it's now 4 visits in 4 months. One of the most consistent restaurants in Portland.

There are so many fantastic
There are so many fantastic restaurants in Portland, but if I had to pick a single favorite, it would likely be Blue Spoon. We dine there frequently (twice a month), and I have never had anything less than a great meal, and the service is always exceptional. We've tried most items on the menu, and have loved everything, but the flan is the stand-out on the dessert menu. The wine list is not extensive, but is is well-honed, and the staff are knowledgeable.

We always find the food and service at Blue Spoon to be excellent. On a recent Saturday night, the room was full and a bit noisy, but the staff handled the tables well and our group of four could hear each other. The steak that one of us ordered was not as tender as it should have been - hence the 'excellent' rating instead of 'outstanding', as otherwise everything was terrific: soup special and the bistro poached egg salad, mussels and large Blue Spoon salad, spinach salad and burger. Also a shout out to an imaginative, not over-priced wine list with lots available by the glass.

Not to be missed on the Hill
Some of the best plates we have ever had in Portland. We started with smoked mozzarella, prosciutto and ricotta fritters……and monkfish - potato chips - oil cured black olive - herb mayo…both incredible bites!! We split the salad - mesclun greens - apple - red onion - almonds - goat cheese - house vinaigrette (yum!). Entrees were fusillata pasta - pea shoots and arugula - speck alto adige - basket molded ricotta and pine nuts (wow!) and the rigatoni special with flank steak (yum-yum). Desserts were the flourless chocolate cake with sea salt and a caramel sauce (so good) and the pound cake with lime juice and fresh cream (yum!). Do come here for the food, outstanding service, value and wine time (glass at $2.50)!!

Blue spoon was a great find. Its a small place that is very cozy and has an inviting feeling when you walk in. The food was great. Everything seemed so simple and fresh, yet each dish we tried had a nice little twist to make it a little adventurous. The service was great, our waiter was very friendly and seemed extremely knowledgeable about the ingredients and the preparation of the food. We will definitely be back.

The Blue Spoon always delivers
The Blue Spoon always delivers high quality. We have had lunch there many times enjoying every bite. We went for dinner and were blown away at how flavorful the plates were. Local ingredients from local farms , you really good taste the freshness. The portions were just right and the service was just enough so you could enjoy your dinner without being interrupted every 5 minutes.

The tapas served from 4:30-6pm was simply fantastic. We tried everything on the menu because we a group of 5 and we licked every plate clean. The flavors and presentation are top notch. The good service and reasonable prices, makes Blue Spoon our favorite restaurant in Portland, ME.

Best site in Portland
Everything about the Blue Spoon was outstanding. The trout, in particular, was fantastic, as was every single drink. The service made already outstanding good even better. I'd go back to Portland just to eat at the Blue Spoon.

Munjoy Hill's Neighborhood Gem
This was our 3rd visit in 4 months and in a town known for excellent restaurants and innovative food preparation the Blue Spoon continues to impress. Superb small bites, great salads (large as well) and uniquely prepared entrees. Service is professional, the wait time between courses is exactly the right amount of time and the nice wine/microbrew beer list. We'll keep coming back!

First time here, food was great. Service outstanding. The only draw back was it is very small, only about 10 tables. Had only one complaint which has nothing to do with the restaurant. We had 7:30 Res. and arrived on time. Would have been able to be seated right away except there were two woman sitting at a table who had finished and paid but just sat talking like they were on a park bench. I can understand if it was a large restaurant, but with 10 tables this was very rude. Had to sit at bar until another table left.

Simple setting, attentive staff, creative menu, good wine list, consistently good quality food preparation. Our "standard" when we visit Portland. A true cafe in the European sense.

Small menu list but very good
Small menu list but very good food, changes frequently

Excellent cocktails, great service
And magically delicious food. A small place, but comfortable. Carefully made cocktails that packed a punch. Tasty food with some unexpected flavor combinations. Our server was knowledgable about the menu ( and also made our cocktails), and provided good information when we asked about dish sizes, recommendations, etc. the place is small, so I am glad we made a reservation, as there weren't lots of available seats. If I lived in the neighborhood, I would eat there every week.

Found this place on Open Table, and made reservations a week in advance of our short visit to Portland. We generally fall back on old favorites like Fore Street, but thought it would be wise to branch out, and it was totally worth it. Delicious dishes, well prepared, in the right proportions. My husband proclaimed the fish stew among the best he'd ever tasted; my baked cod was slightly crunchy on the outside, flaky throughout, in sauce that was perfectly flavored. We'll certainly be back, and recommend Blue Spoon to friends in the area.

We had such a great time at the blue spoon! Waiter was knowledgable and fun and the food was great! Can't wait to go back

I'm a bit partial as we've been to the Blue Spoon 20+ times over the years and always have a great time. The staff, the food, the intimate place - all deserving of a great review. Especially appreciate the option of regular and half sizes on certain items and pricing that promotes frequent returns. We consider the Blue Spoon an excellent choice for visiting friends.

A local who likes food
The Blue Spoon is consistently good.
My past visit was a lovely summer evening.....we called (late for reservation) saying we were late....any chance for an outside table.
We heard the conversation and they happily reserved an outside table -- where we ended a lovely day at a lovely spot with terrific service and food!

Love the food
The food was amazing and service was excellent. There is also a small outdoor seating area that is very cute.

We lucked into getting a reservation at the Blue Spoon when looking for a place to eat after landing at Portland Airport.
We were seated immediately, the coffee was ready and waiting at our request, and the server was especially personable and good humored. We all enjoyed our individual dishes and they were easily able to accommodate even my considerable food allergies (no wheat, corn, eggs, dairy).

In fifteen years of visiting Portland I haven't had a better dining experience. In a town teeming with great restaurants, Blue Spoon is a true standout. Cool, perfectly prepared dishes served by a thoroughly delightful waitstaff in a comfortably cozy environment. What more could you ask for?
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
The Blue Spoon is one of my favorite places in Portland and never disappoints. There is such finesse and playfulness with the food. From the wine specials to the small plates to the fantastic entrees, everything is delicious. Try the Saturday brunch...amazing!
9/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
A great neighborhood scene
A great spot to get a good meal outside of the old port, where parking is much easier. While a fabulous meal, somewhat mediocre when compared to the stellar line up that exists in Portland. Really nice ambiance and a great place to have a conversation. I will return again.

creative, cozy and yummy
Three of us came for dinner and split each course. Every dish was unique and outstanding..loved those fresh oyster mushrooms on sherry cream toast! The deconstructed "egg salad" was great too and the ribeye mouth melting. Our waitress was warm, fun and attentive, and the vibe is very casual and intimate

It was a great night at Blue Spoon. The place was hopping, the atmosphere was small and cozy and despite the pouring rain outside, we felt insulated and well fed. The food was delicious. Can't say enough about every meal we have there, whether it's lunch or dinner.

Delicious, Local Food
Saturday Brunch was absolutely delicious! They had great breakfast/lunch options to choose from and they appealed to all tastes. I ended up trying Sweet Potato Cakes, Mussels, and the Mushroom and Brie open-faced sandwich with an egg. Everything tasted fresh and our waitress was very attentive. The interior is great, and it was much less crowded than I'd anticipated. Prices were very reasonable as well. I'd definitely recommend!

I took some business colleagues
I took some business colleagues from out of state to the Blue Spoon. The food was delicious, the service great, but it did get a little noisy. I appreciate that there were NO TVs or loud music! And while it is small and intimate, I appreciate the coziness as it lends itself to conversation and focus on the wonderful food. It is not a pretentious atmosphere, but rather a comfortable, relaxed environment. I do love the Blue Spoon!

Awesome. My wife and I, on a whim, decided to try Blue Spoon. We've been to most spots in Portland, and Blue Spoon was by far one of our best experiences. You can tell the staff are proud of their food without being pretentious, the dining/bar area is small, but warm and surprisingly quiet. Service was amazing, and quick. The food was excellent and portions were surprisingly large. It's rare, in my experience, to find such good food, at a reasonable price, and leave full. Often times, after a night of 'fine dining', I'll find myself stopping for a snack on the ride home. Not so with Blue Spoon.
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
I am always happy to eat here. Very pleasant, the waitress was wonderfully helpful with wine, the food was, as usual, great without being pretentious. a place for locals.
10/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
I wonder how they stay in business with so few tables! The food was great and , at my request, gluten free. Service was terrific and our waitress was so attentive. Love coming here but you really must have reservations.

This was my first time dining
This was my first time dining here. The food was excellent as was the service. I will definitely come back the next time I visit Portland.

One of Portland's best
Excellent small bistro run by a devoted team that really cares about the food they make and the service they offer.
10/31/2013 5:00:00 PM
Blue Spoon is a cozy adult restaurant that has a unique and varied menu. The prices are reasonable and the option for different sized plates is welcome. One size does not fit all. My only request of the owners is to provide more vegetarian plates. The choice to not include a meat topping or garnish is always honored, which is appreciated. I always recommend Blue Spoon to my friends.

Blue spoon restaurant
Well presented meals using fresh organic local ingredients. Excellent variety to choose from. I found an appetizer, salad and a half dinner were enough to fill me. Small cozy atmosphere with a very energetic vibe. Nice wine list as well. We'll bring some friends next time.

Love this place
Casual, friendly, good service,, great food. Who could want more? Ambience is a bit loud, as there are few tables in a small space, but not so much as to distract from the dining experience. This is a friendly neighborhood place to go for well prepared food at the end of the day, or for lunch
11/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
A little gem
Great neighborhood restaurant but with extra flair. It is Portland ME so lots of really good competion. Very small but very comfortable atmosphere. Great place for 2-4 people to get together in warm atmosphere. Good cocktails, general service of small staff, semi-open kitchen and tasty interesting food offering different plate sizes.

Not Blue at Blue Spoon
Blue Spoon hit every note on the evening we dined there. The food was simply to die for, from small bites to dessert; the service was impeccable, not hurried but attentive. Blue Spoon is truly a gem.

Imaginative, well prepared food...
Servers were prompt and informative. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Nice beer, wine and cocktail selections. When our guests were running late, the staff was accommodating to moving our reservation time. We'll definitely eat here again, and recommend it to others.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great people, great food. It is worth the wait. Dinner took a long time to arrive, but it is a tiny place and it appears they only cook for one table at a time. If there is a big table just ahead of you, be patient.
12/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great Night Out
Enjoyed the starters very much, and "Wine Time" happy hour offered unbelievable prices, really good tasting wines without skimping on the amount. The ragout was excellent, and the gin martini was one of the best ever.
12/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
What a wonderful surprise!
We had been planning to eat just across the street at Bar Lola before we learned they were closing down. Blue Spoon was a shot in the dark, but it was totally terrific. Very friendly and warm, and the ragu was outrageously rich. Everything was beautifully prepared and served.

Fine Food, Neighborhood Feel
The Blue Spoon is always great - for lunch, brunch, dinner. Interesting menu, locally sourced food, nice vibe - and the noise level is decent. The pumpkin cheesecake is more like a mousse, and shouldn't be missed.
