Went for a quiet dinner with two friends...menu is not large, but is diverse and the preparation of the food is outstanding and innovative. Service was attentive and friendly. Definitely a place to return to

great food, poor service
The quality of the food (delicious ham & cheese but specially the risotto) was sadly compensated with a poor service. It has not been my experience in previous occasions. Hopefully it won’t happen again, but if it does it will be a disaster as no matter how good the food is it is quite expensive.

Since they have opened, they have maintained high standards for service, innovative cuisine, and an atmosphere that promotes fine, relaxed dining. I have been looking for an Italian restaurant I could call "home" ever since Primavera closed a few years ago. and i have found it here.

very expenxive for lunch
I really liked the food and the service was great, but it was very expensive.

International visitors arrive so we try this restaurant and instantly regret not knowing about it over the years we've lived here. The waiters are knowledgeable and pleasant, the food is rich so appropriate portions are served and that's a good thing. Great night and will definitely visit again.

Our New Neighborhood Favorite
Elegant setting, wonderful food, professional service. Portions not overwhelming but prices are appropriate. It is our new neighborhood favorite. We will be back soon and often!!!

no martini, but nice dinner.
wine and beer only, however my Chianti by the glass was quite good. My wife's pressed chicken was beautifully prepared and my orecchiette with lamb sausage and broccoli rabe was really outstanding. Good reviews from NY Mag.
Nice room done all in white.
We will be going back.

All of the service and the food, from before-dinner drinks to the dessert, was excellent. While a little pricey for a casual traveler, it is well worth the expense if you want an excellent Italian dinner. It's a little small and tight, so getting there early is recommended.

Top service and food!
Excellent service! Highly recommend it! And don't forget to take some mortadela and cheese home!

A quiet evening
We live a block away from the restaurant. There are more than twenty Italian restaurants in our neighbor, ranging from the best Italian restaurant in US and a pizzeria. So for us it is a matter of selection where to go.This restaurant is originally from Tuscany and main dishes are of Tuscan origins. What differenciate this restaurant from other Tuscan restaurants are two things.Wide selection of small plates and cured dry meats.I had a board of bressaola,a small Tuscan salad and pasta Carbonara as main. They were all very good.I believe the quality of any restaurants can be judged by the quality of egg dishes they serve.ITheir Carbonara is rated one of the top one I have ever tried.

Marvelous on Madison
We found this lovely restaurant through Open Table. We were not disappointed with the food, service or ambiance. The back dining room with skylight and frescoes and our great round corner table, was perfect. The bronzino entree was excellent, as was the scallop entree enjoyed by my companion. Our server was attentive. The only negative comment I have is that the entrees belong in a $$$ restaurant, not $$. So prepare to pay more than indicated for this restaurant. Cozy with charm, a nice choice.

When you are feeling flush. . .
High quality food, wine, and service; also high prices.

Whenever I return it gets better here. There is always an enticing addition to the daily menu (this time a carrot soup with soft shell crab) and one dines in a leisurely fashion - service is attentive and often entertaining, but never intrusive.

This will be a favorite lunch spot
What I liked ... Great service, friendly staff
Outstanding special of the day pasta,
Finally a great iced tea and I loved the prosecco vinaigrette on salad

Il Ristorante Rosi has a modest exterior, but a lovely interior (Pompeian wall paintings). Atmosphere was very welcoming, staff knowledgeable and helpful, but not intrusive. The menu is not overcrowded, but every dish seems well thought out. I highly recommend the controflletto di maiale (Berkshire pork chop, with polenta, summer squash, and cannellini); and the risotto of the day was excellent as well. The wine list has great variety, but many very good bottles for fairly modest prices. Sorry -- I was too full for dessert! All in all, a wonderful display of Italian skill and hospitality.

Excellent cuisine; highly knowledgable staff; unique "deli" in the front where the appetizers and more can be purchased; elegant and upbeat decor...a bit pricey, so reserve this for the more special dinner (s)

Chic and Tasty
Chef Casella and his staff do the usual great job we have come to expect. from the Rosi brand.
The only thing I would suggest is to make the entrees just a little bit bigger.
In the US, especially for lunch, people tend to order only one dish, instead of the 2-3 course meals people customarily have in Italy.

What a find!
Our meal could not have been better! Very reasonably priced and each course delish! The Salumeria appetizers are to die for!!

The Italian grocery/restaurant ambience was delightful. Each delicious dish was visually presented in a unique way. What's more, the bread was excellent...especially the home-baked buiscuts. The service was friendly, knowledgeable and plentiful. But...with all this praise, there is one caveat. The overall prices of each dish...from the appetizers to the desserts, to the wines...were far too costly. To the point where my wife and I left the restuarant with the feeling of "Was it really worth it?"

Quality dining experience with great service and warm and sincere welcome from hosting personnel. The one issue we had was perhaps an over abundance of unusual uses of herbs and spices, especially with desserts like panna cotta. Generally, people enjoy basic foods without the need for herbal flavoring. Overall, the dinner was most enjoyable, and the service was first rate including the secondary personnel who performed the simple tasks of filling water glasses and providing a pristine set up between courses. These individuals were cordial, thorough, and thoroughly professional yet most pleasant.

A little piece of Italy
Great service. Wonderful Italian food. A great wine list. Plus an Italian deli. What more could you want.

The Essential Manhattan Italian
This is Tuscan food at its finest with respect for ingredients and presentation. Not a red sauce in sight. The pasta with mushrooms and truffles was perfectly balanced; the Veal Tonnato delicate and not smothered by a heavy sauce. The whole Branzino for two was a generous size and perfectly cooked. Six of us ate three or four courses and could find no fault with a variety of dishes. The food was matched by the quality of the service: friendly knowledgable and efficient. Sunday Moon is among the best sommeliers in the city. A gem.

Had a Fantastic Lunch
What a wonderful place. The food was amazing and the service was friendly and attentive. The prosciutto special was great addition to the appetizers. The menu is varied enough so that anyone can find a good meal.
Certainly one that will be revisited many times.

We went here for an anniversary lunch and it was delightful! Food was outstanding (portions are on the small side but very flavorful) and the service never kept us wanting. The wine list is huge and there are also many "by the glass" options available. Service was on-hand but never overbearing.

Excellent all the way around
We have been to the west side Salumeria Rosi and really enjoyed it, but this was our first time at the east side location. We absolutely loved it.
10/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
A surprisingly solid menu and nice atmosphere in an area of Manhattan not known for great restaurants. Superb pastas and a nice selection of wines by the glass. Very friendly service.
10/26/2013 5:00:00 PM
The Veal Milanese was overcooked, too much breading. The broccoli rabe tasted burnt. Maybe cooked at too high a temperature. The ravioli made with boar was delicious. Nicely appointed restaurant but clearly overpriced for this chef!!

good but not cheap
My first time. 2 people. great table in the back room. Good selection of wines by the glass @ $15-20/glass. Specialize in charcuterie. Appetizers ~$20 portions large. Salami special and tuna Tartar both excellent. Primi $20-25. Spaghetti carbonara and fish ravoli excellent. With appetizer, enough food. good coffee and dessert. Total with tip $200. Not cheap, but in this location, worth the price.

Great "find" near the Frick Museum
Casual section in the front, near the counters with cured meats, etc., for sale. More "formal" restaurant to the rear. Both attractive. We had a delicious lunch, with attentive service. If we lived in the neighborhood, we would have purchased some of the cured meats from the store to take home. And we'll definitely be back.
