The Monkfish Osso Buco is truly unique and has great flavors. The Tartofu was equally as interesting. Definitely a place we will visit again.

Very great food and great crabmeat Mac and cheese.
Solid lunch spot and looks like a great sports bar.

Great place near PA Station/Garden
It is difficult to find a nice restaurant with decent food and nice ambiance that isn't a bar near Penn Station/Madison Square Garden. While there is a bar and all the televisions are turned to sports channels, this is a more upscale place with excellent food and service. The tables are set far enough apart without hearing your neighbors conversation. The price is fairly reasonable too. I highly recommend this place.

Great food, great atmosphere,
Great food, great atmosphere, great waiter, so many managers came to see how everything was, bar scene was awesome, beautifully decorated, I could go on an on. Highly recommend it to everyone.

Conveniently located within
Conveniently located within steps of MSG and offers prompt responsive service. While the food was good, I was more impressed by the wait staff and their willingness to accomodate special requests. Great for large groups, less so for business meetings as the noise level is very loud at all times.
Would definitely recommend to others.

One dollar oysters during happy hour is a great deal! Try to go when there is no game at The Garden or it will be a madhouse. Stay with the small plates, oysters and a brew before heading to a game.

It's all good at Pennsylvania
It's all good at Pennsylvania 6 including the friendly and helpful staff. A great lunch place.

Only thing keeping this from
Only thing keeping this from being 5-stars is that wines on hand were far less than own the wine list, and staff waited too late to inform us (before the meal arrived). On the positive side, they offered us a higher priced wine for the same price as what we originally ordered.
4/12/2013 4:00:00 PM
We went early on Sunday noon
We went early on Sunday noon so it was quiet and we were able to enjoy food and conversation. Even though there were several TVS I think the hour played a role in low noise levels contrary to other reviews citing energetic sports bar. It was super convenient location to Penn Station and we were not rushed. .

This place never disappoints. The service is always amazing, whether I've sat in the main dining room, or at the bar for a quick lunch. In the few short months that it's been open now, Penn 6 has established itself as one of my new favorite restaurants, for lunch, dinner, or just a drink after work. For quick bites, I highly recommend either the tuna tartare, or the Knickerbocker sliders...both are awesome, but then again so is everything else I've tried on the menu. It can get packed on game nights for the Knicks & Rangers, so be aware of that...but that's the price you pay for being one of the best options in the area around MSG.

Great for pre-games before
Great for pre-games before events at Madison Square Garden. Only a block away and did not seem overly crowded and did not have tables on top of one another. Highly recommended.

All around excellent experience
Visited from MI. Outstanding everything. We were greeted by a very friendly Mai'tre Di. We couldn't get a taxi post Broadway shows so we were 20 minutes late. We'd called and were assured it want a problem and it wasn't! Ordered 2 appetizers - the Blue Crab Mac n Cheese and Ipswich Clams. YUM! My niece (a picky 13 year old) loved her burger. My maple glazed pork chop was outstanding as was the Lobster roll my sister ordered. Our server was great. Finally- ordered an Orange Blossom cocktail and glass of Reisling. Both were excellent. If you want authentic dishes with a culinary twist this place is a must! Really hope to get back here when next in NYC.
4/27/2013 4:00:00 PM
Nice addition to the restaurants
Nice addition to the restaurants available around MSG for a game. Lot of activity, young ,crowded. Friendly staff. Good food and well within NYC prices. I certainly will return.

My husband and I were in NYC for the day to see a Broadway show and had found Pennsylvania 6 online as a possible dinner spot. I'm very glad we went there because the dinner was excellent and our server was very attentive and pleasant. I would definitely go to Pennsylvania 6 the next time we're up there and would highly recommend it to others!

Lobster Roll hit the spot!
Lobster roll was yummy, but when I asked for a small green salad instead of fries (frittes), I had to pay $4 extra (penalty to eat healthier). Not fair really!

Surprisingly Good Dinner
We were surprised at just how good our dinner was. Penn 6 is in the middle of a block just off Penn Station. When you walk in, you think that you are in a bar and that there are a few tables for dinner but the food was delicious and our service (with Annabelle) was perfect. She gave us excellent suggestions as to what to order. The Skirt Steak was perfect. The house salad was very good and the asparagus was grilled just the way we like it. We would go back if we were eating near Penn Station.

Good food for sharing
Defintely good to see a new option in this neighborhood. The crab mac and cheese is heavenly. I also enjoyed the truffle fries. The big screen TVs are ideal for the sports crowd. I would pass on the linguine with clams and stick with burgers, lobster roll or Korean fried chicken.

Great food, good location
Went here with a friend. The atmosphere is definitely suited for groups and HH. I wouldnt call this spot that great for dates because the noise level is too high.
On to the food. Ordered the Tuna Tartare for Appetizer and this was delicious which you put onto the plantain chips. My friend loved it and so did I. Nice little dish.
For Entrees I ordered the Beer Braised Short Ribs. This was also delicious. I was afraid it would be kind of dry, but that was def not the case. Lots of flavor, good presentation, just fantastic.
My friend ordered the Lobster Roll. I didnt get a chance to taste it but she thought it was very good. I cant vouch for that though.
Overall a good place to eat, def would consider coming back again for sure!

Food was very good -- especially enjoyed the burrata cheese appetizer! Very friendly service. Sat the at the window with a beautiful view of a gorgeous church right across the street -- St. Francis of Assisi I think. Didn't go to view sports, just talked to my friend, but this would be a great sports watching place.

Penn 6 Is Always Great
This is my second time dining at Penn 6. I can tell you that the food and service were terrific. The server (Jackie) was very helpful with my order (gluten free dairy free) and was present whenever needed. The hostess made us feel comfortable and assisted whenever needed. The skirt steak was prefectly cooked and the grilled asparagus was exactly as I had requested. I love Penn 6 and will eat there when I am in the area.

Nice for informal business lunch
We ate at Pennsylvania 6 yesterday. The skirt steak was well cooked, a good portion and a nice chimichurri sauce on the side. This isn't the place for a formal business lunch but it was full of people enjoying an informal business lunch or friends. Worth a return trip as there were a lot of interesting options on the menu.

good after work destination
Great location and great ambiance. Food and drink options are sufficient for large groups. A good place to hangout with friends after work.

We always love going to Penn 6
Once again we dined at Penn 6. We always enjoy going there. We usually order the skirt steak which is always good. The asparagus is terrific (order it grilled with olive oil). As we have gluten and dairy allergies, they are wonderful about making sure that our food is OK for us to eat.

Great find near Penn Station
Impressive food and atmosphere. Normally the area around penn station is littered with touristy or just plain mediocre. Not this place. Great raw bar. And overall just solid American fair. We had a group of 6 and had an assortment of items. Crab Mac and cheese, short rib and skirt steam are all winners. Beer selection has se great options from the local upstate NY area.
Will easily visit this place again.

Great addition to midtown dining
I have clients in the area and we're always looking for a good spot close to their office. We also attend events at MSG and have to fight crowds for tables before events. This is a great welcome spot for midtown with a great vibe and amazing, fresh food.

Game Night First Choice
Great place prior to Knick and/or Ranger Game in particular. Food is outstanding with special note to the Monk Fish Osso Buco which is something you would normally not pick/see on a menu BUT A MUST HAVE, truly great!! Great bar scene prior to AND AFTER a game. Gourmet food, pizza etc so don't let the bar fool you into thinking the food is bar food...exceptional food. Great venue to sit at the bar to enjoy dinner as an option to sitting at a table as well.

Civilized alternative to MSG food
Went with husband to Rangers game at Madison Square Garden. He knows I am not a fan of eating "lap food" so we avoided all the new fast food choices at the arena and ate at this restaurant instead. Very nice atmosphere and even though it was filled with mostly Ranger fans before the game, they weren't the roudy crowd. We shared a roasted beet salad with goat cheese and toasted pistachios and he had the hand chopped burger with shoestring potatoes and I had the bucatini with clams and chorizo. Both delicious and nice service. Given that a pastrami sandwich costs $15 and a water costs $5 at the Garden, the prices at Pennsylvania 6 ($19 for burger, fries and free tap water)are so reasonable that we will be returning.

Bad for concerts
There was an Eagles Concert that started at 8. We had a reservation for 6p and were not seated until 6:50p with spotty service after that. Did not get to concert until 8:20p and missed the opening and first song. Staff very apologetic and admitted they were overwhelmed that evening. Having said that, they couldn't have been nicer and we ended up with both a round of free drinks and four free drink coupons. Food was worth waiting for.

Always On The Mark
This is my third time at Penn6 in 3 weeks. The food is consistently exceptional. This week's foray included the tuna tartare appetizer and the pork loin entrée. Both were excellent and leave you wanting more, but satisfied. My only criticism has been and remains that the volume of alcohol poured into an "on the rocks drink" is a little too conservative and, therefore, unnecessarily inflates the price of a meal into a zone that somewhat transcends the type of restaurant this is. Generosity on the pour develops long-term customers.

Pre Eagles Gem
Wanted to find a place prior to the MSG Eagles show.....along with a ton of other Eagles fans, as it turned out. Very pleased....good NY pub red/black vibe, interesting small plates made well and a tremendous wait staff (Bobby, I believe). Highly recommended, and will go back!

I thought overall the resturant was a good experince. Atmosphere was great and engertic. One small flaw in the dinner I ordered pizza arrived very burnt and missing a ingredient. The manager came to the table immediately to aplogize and the replaced pizza turned out well. Everything else I ordered was very good. My date found the food good, all in all we do plan to go back.

Dinner and a Show
Restaurant is very close to MSG - highly recommended for dinner before a game or show. Food and drinks were very good. It is a little dark so reading the menu was a bit of a challenge. Knickerbocker burgers and crabmeat mac & cheese were both delicious. Beet salad was not what I expected but also very good. Cracker Jacks for dessert was tasty - a more home-made version of the old favorite. Good for sharing since we were stuffed from our meal. We were seated early for our reservation and got out in time for the show.

Best option near Madison Sq Garden
Given the scarcity of good restaurants near Madison Square Garden, this was a great find. My main gripe is that we arrived a few minutes late for a 6:15 reservation and weren't seated until 6:45. Fortunately, when we told our server that we had to get to an 8:00 show at the Garden, he did a good job of getting everything to us in a timely fashion.
We all started with salad - both the mixed greens and the Caesar salad were tasty and not overdressed. For entrees: the roast chicken was slightly dry though well seasoned; the vegetables that came with it were outstanding…done to perfection. The hamburger was juicy and delicious, and the wagyu beef sliders got two thumbs up. We would definitely go here again before events at the Garden.

For that area this is a great addition. Interesting menu.all very tasty.

Doing the basics well
While not a trendy hot spot, Penn 6 has a small menu that they execute well. I was craving some comfort relief from the world of gastronomy, and Hubbie likes a good steak. We both came away satisfied.

Great spot to have dinner
Great spot to have dinner before an event at MSG. The service was excellent and the food was very well done. Would go back and would recommend to friends.

Great Dining Choice near Penn&MSG
After hearing good reviews decided to give it a try when meeting a friend for lunch. And since she was arriving via AMTRAK at Penn Station on a cold & rainy day, decided to pick something close by; being about a block away, was ideal. Upon arrival was greeted by a lovely friendly hostess who had already sat my friend. The restaurant has a large bar with multiple TVs with a relaxed unpretentious vibe dining rm to the right. I had the Tuna Sashimi Salad and Blue Crab MacNCheese for appetizer while my friend had just a soup. Though relatively quiet when we arrived, noise level considerably higher by time we left. All were great choices on this cold and windy rainy day. Great food, friendly prompt service and easy on the pocket, can't go wrong.

Just good food and drink before going to Maddison square garden

Loud, but good good
This was a good find. When going to MSG it's difficult to find a place close by to eat. Took a chance on this restaurant and was very pleased! The food is good, the service was very good, but the noise is something you have to adjust to. We will definitely go back whenever we have an event at the garden

A Hidden Gem in a Dead Zone
The area around Madison Square Garden is not known for good restaurant making this a wonderful find-- a pleasure almost worth going out of your way for. It has a wonderful New York atmosphere--dark wood, a well dressed upscale after work crowd at the bar. The pasta with claims was perfectly al dente, tthe roasted brussel sprouts to die for. My friend had the char which she found similarly fantastic. We shared a yummy apple cobbler with a crunchy topping and a scoop of frozen yoghurt. We dined extremely well and strolled leisurely to our Elton John Concert, just minutes away in MSG. My compliments to the attentive hostess who seemed genuinely concerned without being overbearing about our dining experience.
