Troya beats out Kokkari
A modern looking restaurant with nice ambiance and service. It's good a good selection of mezes, flatbreads, and larger entrees - all meant for sharing. I especially loved the meatballs with haydari & pickles and the zucchini fritters. The fritters were light and tasty, and best of all, not greasy and burnt like the Kokkari ones.

This little gem on Fillmore
This little gem on Fillmore is a great addition to the neighborhood. I have visited their restaurant on Clement, but rarely thinking about going that way to dinner.
The food is very good...lots of interpretation on traditional Turkish dishes. Friendly service and very welcoming.

Great place for Lamb
The food at Troya is much better than your average Middle Eastern restaurant. I'm not really a lamb kabob fan, but Troya's version is juicy and succulent. I also tried the Adana Lamb (ground) Kabob which was perfectly juicy and pleasantly spicy. I will definitely go back.

We ordered a sampling of meze dishes and really enjoyed them all. The cauliflower was especially good - I'm going to have to try and recreate that at home since I don't live in San Francisco and can't pop into Troya whenever I get a craving...

I've been the the restaurant
I've been the the restaurant on Clement many times but this was my first visit to the one on Fillmore. The menu is much smaller but the food was excellent. I especially enjoyed the fact that I could have a conversation without shouting. I will definitely return.

Loved this place! I lived in Turkey for more than two years and this is the closest food that I have found to the "real thing." I will definitely be back! Their Efes beer was ice cold and all of the food was excellent.

We had a great meal here. The food was delicious. The main dishes were a little small. Next time I would order some more of the small plates to compensate.

Inventive delicious food
Helpful staff, interesting and inventive Turkish Mediterranean cuisine. Asked the waitress for recommendations and her choices were spot on and very enjoyable. Food came very quickly. Each plate was finished to the bottom - would have licked the plates if we were home! Excellent sauces and dips to accompany the dishes. Had the Turkish appetizer meatballs, the appetizer zucchini fritters and for entree the special chicken -- all delicious. Then to top it off had the scrumptious pistachio baklava. Will return again!

A great find. The feta cheese cigars are a must! Service friendly and professional.

surprise, surprise, surprise
Much more than I expected. Great food from appetizers all the way thru to the end with desert. Kabobs, chicken, fish, finger food, humus, yogurt dips, small plates to share.....all wonderful. Generous portions too. Wine was a bit expensive was only drawback but will not stop me from going back. Great find.....

Good food, small portions
I've been here twice and found that the food was fairly tasty, but the portions were pretty small (I disproportionately eat a lot though..). It would be a good place for a lighter meal, but if you're hungry I think you'd have to order multiple dishes to be full which ends up being pretty pricey. I was disappointed to find that the new head chef removed the moussaka from the menu which was my (and apparently the old head chef's) favorite dish. But our waiter said the other location on Clement still has it, so I'd likely be dining there. The ambiance is cuter though on Fillmore. Our waiter was very helpful and gave us his honest opinions on dishes, and was attentive but not intrusive.

We have been to this restaurant
We have been to this restaurant several times with friends. We have always enjoyed wonderful food. Service has been friendly and excellent. We hope to continue to return on a regular basis. Reservations have enabled us to get our favorite table. Just a great place!

Better than you thinking will be
The food is absolutely amazing. We are in the area for a week and will definitely circle back. We picked multiple items off the menu and split - everything was amazing. Great service - great scene.

Surprisingly comfortable& luscious
I'm so glad we chose this spot for a catch up dinner in this neighborhood. I was early for a change and warmly welcomed and given my choice of remaining open tables. Nice. Staff was alert, friendly and very helpful, providing recommendations when prompted. These were thoughtful, keeping in mind flavors and balance. The moussaka was delicious and perfectly seasoned and cooked. The lamb meatballs, though, were a blast of flavors and outstandingly delicious. The wine list struck me as pricey and mildly interesting.

small tasty mediterranean gem
reasonably priced small plates in an energetic modern environment
small menu but each dish meticulously prepared.
relaxed attentive staff no hurry in spite of being a busy place!
6/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
We should up over an hour late (but called to let them know we were still coming) and they were still as hospitable as if we showed on time. Got a fun table at the front window to enjoy the people watching as we had our dinner.
Diverse wine list, but we chose a simple Greek wine. Will try that again. Shared some appetizers (dolmas and feta cheese cigars), a flat bread (can't remember which kind but it was good) and 2 large dishes between 4 of us. Was just the right amount of food. Didn't feel weighed down and didn't get hungry 2 hours later.
Will definitely be coming back to try more.

Friendly Neighborhood Find
I enjoyed Troya very much and will go back because I missed out on a lot of good things on the menu. Best to go with a group and share because the mezes were the best. Staff was very accommodating when we came early for a reserved table.

Interesting and authentic
Interesting and authentic mostly Turkish (yum) dishes! A little pricey for small-ish portions, but very tasty!
7/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food here is consistently excellent and healthy, to boot! Lots of veggie options plus some very good meatballs and kebabs. We love the roasted Brussels sprouts and this time tried the little Turkish peppers with yogurt (new to the menu, I think) which were exquisite! We then shared a flatbread with artichokes and avocado and a chicken kebab. The kebab entree consists of two skewers over a bed of chickpeas and so is easy to share. Definitely one of my Fillmore St. favorites!

Great dinning experience!
Great food and wine in an unfussy and romantic ambiance. We especially enjoyed the sardine appetizer, as well as the feta sticks. We will definitely be back, next time with other to share in the experience. I don't think we would order the lamb dumplings again (manti i think is what they called it), thought it was good, it wasn't great and didn't have enough variety to the plate, just dumplings covered in a sour creme sauce.
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
A great place to meet a friend for dinner, casual atmosphere, friendly service, most of of all delicious food. The small plates we had were all perfect - cauliflower, brussels sprouts, calamari and melon salad. Baklava to end a perfect light meal.

its a goodie
Thumbs up for Troya. The staff was super nice and the decor was earthly yet hip. Large restaurant so could be good for a group. Menu was authentic.

This was my first lunch at Troya. Unfortunately I've waited awhile to comment so I don't remember what we ordered. I do, however, remember that the food was tasty and the waiter was attentive, provided details about the dishes in response to our questions and made suggestions.

Troya is an easy place to sit down chat and grab small bites and wine

Great Turkish Restaurant
When we arrived, I ordered Turkish wine for two of us. It wasn't as strong or full-bodied as the wine I've had in Turkey. It was very, very light and my mother said the same thing. Food was excellent and the desserts were fabulous! Wonderful staff who were attentive, while still letting us enjoy the meal in peace. It was a great meal at Troya! Note: It's a good to go earlier in the evening, if possible. The restaurant is full by 6:30pm on a Saturday and the volume goes up in the restaurant.
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
A wonderful meal
This was actually my third meal at Troya. Some friends were in town from WV and after a bit of discussion, we decided to go to Troya. We dined on an assortment of meze. I and all of my 3 visitors were impressed. Each and every dish we tried was excellent. The one exception was the calamari which was too chewy, although the sauce was excellent.
I am looking forward to my 4th visit.

Good Mediterranean food and service. Nothing extraordinary but very pleasant and not overly crowded. It is good for having a conversation.
10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
We went here for my boyfriend's birthday. They were able to accommodate our group at the communal table, which worked out nicely. The food was delicious, as always. They have the best dolmas! We even brought our own cake and they were able to assist us with the candles and serving (they do charge a fee for that, but that was expected). They were very gracious and handled our requests and big group effortlessly.
10/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Turkish food enhanced
The moussaka was like that I had in Turkey, but with a bechamel sauce. Rich, but delicious. And the vegetables -- we ordered the brussels sprouts and the cauliflower, and they were soooooo good! My friend had the bread with arugala and hearts of palm, and enjoyed it very much. It was actually a very light dish. I'll go back, no doubt, very soon.

Delicious Mediterranean Food
Great flat breads and the best Brussels sprouts that I've ever had!
10/19/2013 5:00:00 PM
The cucumber salad was fresh beyond words, composed before serving. My chicken kebab was tender and flavorful. The baked lamb with eggplant was an amazing hearty dish. The baklavah was different, not in a bad way but different and fresh.
The only drawback was the lighting it's way too dark, we could barley read the menu or see the food!! Thank goodness it was delicious and fresh but I needed my flashlight app three times!

A favorite spot on Fillmore
There are plenty of restaurant options on Fillmore Street but this is by far one of my favorites. Amazing variety of small plates - my boyfriend and I can easily fill up on these without feeling guilty for trying multiple items on the menu, and we still end up with a reasonable bill after a few drinks as well. Great place for a date or catching up with a friend/visitor in town - not at all a loud, rowdy place but bumpin' enough that you feel like you're in both a trendy and a high-quality spot.

Long live Troya!
This place is very special. The ambience, service and food is really first rate.
Why go somewhere else?

A Turkish Delight
Troya is a gem. It is neighborhood informal with excellent food and service. For those of us who love Turkish food it provides ample opportunity to indulge, from the meze plates through the desserts. The spicing is authentic and takes me back to some of the finest restaurants in Ankara and Istanbul. I only wish it had a full liquor license so it could offer some good Turkish Raki (Ouzo in Greek) with the meze. One other thing I would add to experience is a bit more offerings of Turkish wine and, maybe, a bit of lokum (Turkish delight) with the bill.

Great variety of Mediterranean food
The menu is perfect; the wine list ideal for the cuisine.
