Great care in providing grass
Great care in providing grass fed meat. Even though the menu is basic, you can see, taste and feel the care that went in the preperation of ingredients. The setting is simple but very comfortable. The sevice matches the care that went into the food. Although I love rare cooked burgers (if I know the source of meat is organic and grass fed), You should know that they prepare their burgers on the rare side so if you want a medium cooked burger expect to recieve it medium rare. I would recomend Short Order to everyone visiting LA.

While my husband enjoyed his
While my husband enjoyed his Short Order burger with mushrooms and cheese, I took my hat off for my yummy Nancy's Backyard Burger. The dry-aged beef really has a good flavor and the entire burger was cooked to my definition of perfection. Finished with a coffee malt, I had no room for anything else at the plentiful, bountiful Farmer's Market.
To make this a great experience, the wait staff was attentive and friendly. Two thumbs up. No wonder this is the top burger restaurant in USA. A definite gem.

But I Didn't Order a "Shave Ice"
Just a little eccentric, and very expensive. $78 for a pair of sandwiches, two cocktails and a few sides, was pretty high, especially considering the picnic-table setting.
The cocktails were equally eccentric. My friend asked for a classic Martini, and was told that this (hip, more contemporary) bar didn't use olives. Oh. My drink, an equally classic one, was served on shaved ice instead of the usual cubes. If I wanted a "raspada", I would have asked for one.
The food was all good and generally up to Nancy Silverton's high standards. I wouldn't recommend the Pickle Platter side, however. Nine bucks for some sliced dills, a few okras, a little watermelon rind and a very small bowl of "pimento" cheese was too much for too little.

WOW! Was THAT good!!
Short Order was absolutely marvelous! EVERY dish I had was surprising and wonderful, the Short Order Burger was the best burger I've had to date. The pickle plate, spuds and Market Smash cocktail were all addictively good- I had high expectations but I am now fairly fanatical.

We had fun. 6 of us celebrating
We had fun. 6 of us celebrating mother's/grandmother's birthday around the fire table upstairs. My wife particularly enjoyed the Margarita. Others enjoyed the wine. The burgers were excellent and made the choice of this burger stop a good one since the guest of honor loves burgers. Dessert was special. The service was slow (dinner took over 2 hours and meant a $4 parking charge), but the waitress was sweet so that made up for it.

Not just for Carnivores!
My husband and I LOVE Short Order. Their burgers are top-notch and their management and staff is always friendly and helpful. It's one of our regular spots and truly a great find at The Farmers' Market end of The Grove. Also - check out "Short Cake" - their bakery downstairs. Best Apple Pie (except for Gramma's) EVER!

Lived up to expectations!
My husband & I heard a report that Short Order was rated as the number one place for hamburgers, we decided to try it out the next time we were visiting. The very first day of our arrival to LA, we used Open Table to ensure a table. We were greeted and shown to a table right away. I can truthfully say that from the beginning to the end of our meal we were impressed with the service, not to mention the excellent food! We had the grilled asparagus, which were tender & flavorful, and Ida's burgers, which were without a doubt the best burgers we had ever eaten! The meat was oh so tender and the grilled onions scrumptious. We liked regular fries, but the sweet potato fries, with cinnamon, were an added delectable treat. We will be back!

Was expecting a more spectacular
Was expecting a more spectacular hamburger-it was very good but just a burger. Really enjoyed the ambience and the quality of the preparation. A nice casual experience. Serious bar which was a nice surprise

Being busy can be a good sign.
Dined here for Beerfest featuring Stone Brewing and a lamb roast. Our entree, appetizers, and side were delicious. The beer was excellent. This is almost exclusively outdoor dining, so bring a sweater. They can get pretty busy so your server will be scarce and with the crowds it can get loud. Overall, I'd love to come back and explore their full menu.

Really enjoyed the Ruben sandwich. Worth trying. Lamb burger was moist and flavorful. Pickle chips were a little salty.

We had lunch at short order when we visited LA- It had the best burgers and the service was great. It is also walking distance from the Grove shopping centre so it is a perfect place for lunch after a day of shopping :)

Given how many popular "gourmet"
Given how many popular "gourmet" hamburger joints have become, I had high expectations. Appetizers were very good -- pretzel bun pup was terrific. Mac n cheese with bacon bits was very good, fries were tasty. Dessert I really liked -- a fried croissant filled with banana and topped with vanilla ice cream. Really good. The hamburger itself was a bit of a letdown. It was very good, but The Counter has a more flavorful patty. Service was a little slow, but it was a busy night. Definite recommend, looking forward to trying other menu items.

My partner and I visited Short Order after finding it on Open Table one evening. Greeted and sat at table quickly. Server was amazing in answering our questions about the menu and portion sizes. Food was delivered timely and hot off the grill. Food quality was very good - I had the Nancy's Backyard Burger. Portion sizes were larger than most places I have visited in LA, but not outrageous. Everything is served a la carte, so if you want fries with that burger you need to order those separately (again side portions were very generous). I will definitely be going back and highly recommend to anyone looking for a good, quality burger in LA!

I had a reservation and showed up on time, but no host. When host appeared, there was an awkward non-greeting. One of the chairs was sticky and I asked the busser / waiter if they could clean it. 10 minutes later, nobody came to clean it. Our waiter kept changing through the night. The cocktails were great - I highly recommend them.

Elevated comfort food
Hidden in a corner of Farmers Market, this is comfort food reinvented, and an absolute treat. Incredible cocktails (LOVED the Farmers Market Smash), great burgers, and outstanding side dishes. Our favorites were the fried baked potato pieces and the bean salad. So much better than the white linen table cloth restaurants in The Grove. We'll be going back soon!

Located at the Farmer's Market, Short Order is centrally located. The upstairs dining patio feels more like a retreat from the crowded market below. The food was hearty, creative and delicious. The pickle sampler was a great starter with pickled okra, watermelon rind and bread and butter pickles plus pimento cheese and grilled bread. Cocktail list was also inventive. The lamb burger was outstanding, perfectly cooked and my companion had Nancy's Backyard burger - a burger with the works. Th adult milk shakes at worth checking out as a finish. Service from arrival to exit was outstanding!

wonderful corner eatery
I pass by Short Order every day on my way to and from work, and always wondered what it was about. I finally had a good excuse to sit down for lunch there with some friends and was delighted to find a well-focused menu crafted around organic food. Short Order caters to all sorts of dietary requirements as well, from vegetarian to vegan and they gladly accommodate any special requests.
