This was our second time to dine at 23 Hoyt. We are so glad that we gave it a second chance. The service was outstanding this time and the food was as good as it was the first time that we dined there. Fantastic all around. We can't wait to go back.
My wife had the burger with bleu cheese and a duck egg on it and it was fantastic. I was almost sorry that I ordered the buttermilk fried chicken, which was delicious as well.

Great place to relax and have some good food and conversation. Staff was friendly, had a great experience.

A nice evening
We had great appetizers, wine list was good and then dinner (halibut cheeks) was wonderful. A solid night out. Service level wasn't johnny-on-the-spot or over the top, but fine. Chef sent out a cauliflower soup for tasting which was a nice touch. We would go here again.

Hip and Happening...Go on a weekday
This is a very hip restaurant with a great location. Downside was that our server was very busy and seemed to have too many tables. With that said, she was very attentive when she was at our table and extremely nice, As were all the rest of the staff. Our appetizers came before our first drink, however the steamed clams and caesar salad were both good. My partner did not like his entree...The Lamb. I ordered and loved the flatbread, and the fried cauliflower side. Yum! The wine list was very well done.
While it wasn't the best food or the best dining experience ever, I would try it out again and recommend it to a friend.

Was looking through Open Table
Was looking through Open Table for a restaurant selection in Portland and happened upon 23 Hoyt. I get to Portland a few times a year and enjoy the Pearl District and its many great places to eat and drink. I wanted something that got me to a different area of the Pearl than where our regular business dinners end up so this looked like it fit the bill.
Food was excellent; the pork chop and leg of lamb entress were our choice and both done perfectly and we enjoyed a very good beet salad starter. The caramel ice cream with sea salt was a great finish.

We went for Mother's day brunch with a party of six. The wait for food was a bit long, but food was great and service was outstanding. Great place for any meal.

How can you beat a $2 mimosa? We came for mothers day brunch and everyone was so sweet and the food was excellent as always!

fun place for a celebration
We were here celebrating a graduation. We started with the Bruschetta, the cheese plate and the fondue. The fondue was the big hit, everyone loved it. Two diners had the wild mushroom risotto, and two had the steak. Both were excellent. The steak was perfectly cooked, very rare, as ordered. Also, there was a quail dish that looked fabulous. The drink menu had lots of fun cocktails to try, and the wine list was good, but could have had more wines available by the glass. For dessert, don't miss the warm donut holes with salted caramel, they were amazing!! Our waiter was quite friendly and added to the festive atmosphere. We had a great time, and a delicious dinner.

I would rate 23Hoyt high on
I would rate 23Hoyt high on my list of "special occasion" restaurants. The bar service was a bit slow and we felt a bit pushed to finish our drinks before the appetizer was serviced. However, we enjoyed our food and the ambiance very much.

We were a small group celebrating
We were a small group celebrating a surprise baby shower and were treated so well by staff, I was really impressed. Even though the restaurant was busy, the server was very attentive to our table, offering great drink recommendations, including non-alcoholic beverages for the expectant mother. The food was amazing, a bit on the more expensive side for certain plates, but worth every dollar. I had the "Garden Party" cocktail and it was equally superb.

Every dish was stellar - great ingredients, favors, preparations, interesting combinations. Delicious!

Great service & friendly service
We really enjoyed my wife's birthday dinner at 23 Hoyt. The roasted chicken and New York strip were both excellent. The chocolate cake and mint ice cream for dessert was only ok. The atmosphere is friendly and casual. The prices were very reasonable for an upscale meal. We will be back.

Eclectic food fair...good service
I have an uncultured palate; my wife's is more sophisticated. She found the menu quite exciting and enjoyed her selection. I, on the other hand, struggled to find something on the menu that was less eclectic. The chef was very accommodating and modified one of the entrees to my liking.

Hoyt23 Does Not Disappoint
We hit Hoyt23 after a concert. This was our first experience. The restaurant is airy, yet cozy. The service was attentive without being obtrusive. The food was bright, interesting and complex. We shared the fondue starter and made sure every, last vestiage of cheese was out of the pot. I had the risotto - creamy but not mushy - laced with ramps, morels and asparagus. Delightful. My husband had the fried quail with buckwheat pancakes. The plate was a pleasant journey of textures and tastes. We share a bowl of the salted caramel ice cream and made those food pleasure noises with almost every bite. We will be back.

The food was great but took
The food was great but took a long time to get to the table. Luckily, we were not in a hurry and were enjoying our drinks. But it did take a long time for the main course to come out.

Outstanding food and service
Service and food were both superb! Would definitely plan to visit again when I'm in the area.

Delicious food, not my music
We enjoyed almost everything about 23 Hoyt: Delicious salad, great burgers and fries, excellent service, nice ambience. The only thing we found annoying was the techno music that was playing quite loud while we were there. We would have stayed for dessert but the music was too annoying. That might not bother some people and would not be an issue.
7/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
23 Hoyt was a very nice location to dine for dinner. The happy hour menu had a good number of choices, and the food was delicious.

Food was great the waitress was not
The food was great as usual. We had the Rougue (sp?) burger and it was very tasty. The waitress on the other hand was not the best. She seemed irritated that we didn't order a lot of food. But, we were going to be ordering a lot of wine and order more apps as we drank the wine. But, she never asked us if we wanted any more wine. She just came and cleared our plates as we were still eating and took our wine glasses. Because of her we decided to leave and go to a little wine place just a few blocks down the street. We will go back because the food is great, but if we get that waitress again I will asked to be moved. The hostess was super chipper and welcoming.
7/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
We arrived and were promptly seated. The place was very busy and it was still happy hour so we were able to order some specialty drinks and nibbles. The food arrived way before the drinks which was a bit unusual but other than that the drinks were great and food good. We placed our entree orders and it did take a long time for the food to arrive. When the meals did arrive, all five of us enjoyed our selections. Since it took a while for our entrees to be served we were treated to a table size dessert for all to share.

Everything was good
We order fairly simple brunch type dishes and everything came out as specified on the menu. It's a good Sunday brunch location.
8/31/2013 5:00:00 PM
23 hoyt is a regular on our list for happy hour and dinner, so we recently tried it for brunch. the food was delicious as always, but the service was a little slow. it was a rare sunny day in portland and on the holiday weekend, so maybe they weren't anticipating the rush- every outdoor table was full! still, it was great and we'll definitely go back- for the $2 mimosas at the very least!

Chef Carriker's Summer Dinner menu embodies Northwest Farm-to-Table cuisine. Portion sizes were large enough for sharing for those who want to sample the whole menu without feeling full to the gills. We shared beet salad with goat cheese dressing, Carlton Farms pork chop served with fragrant grilled peaches and a humongous house-made pork rind (Hail to pork lovers) and Cattail Creek leg of lamb with salsa verde. Both pork and lamb were cooked to perfection and were tender and succulent. We "cleaned" our plates and unfortunately didn't save room for dessert. An interesting offering that I saw at another table after I finished my meal, was the Foie-Oreo.Just the sight of this dessert made my mouth water!

Great Place for Brunch!
Outstanding Brunch! The menu is fantastic (my personal favorite being the Vegetarian Hash). The Brunch drinks are excellent, including the $2 Mimosas which are generously poured. The ambiance is charming, especially with the drip candles, stacks of wood which give that cozy, earthy feeling, the lovely green wall with paintings, the high ceilings and upper balcony. The staff is awesome; always very friendly and great at what they are doing. The new General Manager, Eli, is a class act. All that being said, it is one of my favorite restaurants in the area!

Testing the locals
Took a visiting guest here for Sunday brunch. We both had a very nice experience. I had a fluffy mixed veggie omelet, it was really good. My guest had the veggie sandwich and gave it a high rating. I thought the prices were very good considering the nice sitting area and the quality of food. I liked the convenience of making a reservation online. And all the staff was very nice, just the right amount of attention. This is a nice NW 23rd choice.

Food is really good.

Brunch, Happy Hour & Dinner=GREAT!
For me, 23 Hoyt is a 3-Time WINNER; great for Brunch, Happy Hour and Dinner. Recently I decided to try Dinner instead of the usual Brunch and Happy Hour, and it was fantastic! I have to say, the Fondu is the best I've tried anywhere in the city. I don't eat meat (except for seafood), and 23 Hoyt has plenty of things on the menu for vegetarians and pescitarians. The service is always excellent, with a wonderful staff (including chef, bartenders, servers, and the general manager). The ambiance is Northwest casual chic, and the candles at dinner make it even cozier. Whether you go there alone, or with a bunch of friends, it is a lovely place to have Brunch, Happy Hour, or Dinner…
any time of the year.

A cut above
This is our second time at 23 Hoyt. We got there at just the right time to enjoy selections off both the Happy Hour menu and the full menu. The small plates from the Happy Hour menu were packed with flavor. The almonds seemed to be under-seasoned, but maybe that was because the Vinegar Powdered Handmade Chips and the Roasted Beet Salad were so flavorful! We also had the French Onion Soup and the Crab Salad - stellar! Layer upon layer of tastes danced upon our tongues, we couldn't stop until every plate was clean. We saved room for their amazing doughnut holes, since we tried them the last time we were here and were the highlight of the meal. They added a salted caramel sauce that brought these luscious gems to a new level. Stupendous!

Evening with family
On a brief visit to Portland I met my family at 23Hoyt for dinner. The restaurant was beautifully Christmas'd up and had a festive, lively feel. The hostess was wonderfully accommodating and sat us early, even though part of our group had not yet arrived. Service for beverages began promptly, but service was spotty and sometimes slow, even before the section filled. The food was very good, although some elements may have been over used ( a pasta dish was too lemony, from reports at the table).
All in all, the food was very tasty and our experience was positive. We would all return for good food and fun.

Perfect for Foodies
My idea of a perfect meal: the Orchard Sour and Goat Tartar. A house-made cinnamon tincture with brandy and scotch. The tartar served with roasted bone marrow, sea salt, mustard, and micro greens... worth going back for alone.
We also had a perfect Ceasar salad... you could taste the saltiness of the anchovies (how it is supposed to be). The short ribs were perfectly cooked almost sweet with a little maple (they say they were marinaded in root beer). The sea food stew was very briny with lots of mussels... and a generous portion of sea creatures.
Everything was delicious.
Service was good but our guy was a little busy with larger parties and we were left sitting with empty drinks a few times. But he was nice.
We will definitely be back.
