My husband and i visit The Elm after one week of opening and i have to say that it is one of the best restaurant we have had dinner in a long time. Beautiful space, fantastic service but most of all the food and presentation was outstanding. We cant wait to go back we good friends and great Burgundy's.

Amazing new restaurant in the burg
The food at the Elm rivals any of the famous fine dining spots in Manhattan, but because of the structure of the menu it can be made more affordable than the more traditional spots (like Liebrandt's Corton etc). The food is innovative with great complex flavors, yet remains approachable. Everything we had was delicious. The foie gras is not to be missed, as were both "pasta" dishes and the lamb. Desserts and cheese courses were also truly spectacular. It's very exciting to see this type of restaurant come to Williamsburg where the vast majority of restaurants are super casual and tend to be a bit repetitive (with a few notable exceptions). We'll be back often.

Elm is off to a great start.
Elm is off to a great start. The food is excellent. The attention to detail in the kitchen is astounding. The wait staff is a bit too eager to please when you first arrive, especially if you dine early. The menu is a la carte so each diner has a choice of dishes which is a departure for the chef who insisted on only tasting menus at his other restaurant (Corton).
The decor is a bit bizarre. The room is intentionally dark to conjure up a pub atmosphere (my guess) but ends up being unpleasantly dark, especially if you are seated at one of the tables off to the right side as you enter the restaurant. The tables and seating are somewhat uncomfortable and the table tops are a bit too small for the size of the serving pieces and dishes.

One of the best in Brooklyn!
The level of sophistication here rivals the chef's work at Corton, but in a much more relaxed setting and reasonable a la carte prices. Service is fantastic. Can't recommend highly enough!

I feel smell of corton restaurant. food was great, service also good. but, not great for romantic dinner,

Definitely worth trying
Really amazing food and the service was really good!

My friend and I had a really exceptional meal here in August. I enjoyed it more than meals I've had at Per Se, Daniel, Le Bernardin, Guy Savoy (Paris), etc. The shared turbot dish and the skate dish were the standouts in my opinion. The complex combinations of all of the fresh flavors were jaw-droppingly good. I'll be interested to see if they can produce dishes I like as much in the other three seasons. The service was a little hipstery, which felt funny given the quality of the food, but it didn't really bother me. The dishes are also kind of on the small side, but that was OK because they were quite cheap given the quality, and it meant we got to try more things.

A little underwhelmed
A foodie friend recommended this place to me giving it the highest marks possible so I went in expecting a lot. I left enjoying my meal, but it's not a meal I will talk about for days. The foie gras with strawberry was innovative and tasty, but mostly just rich. I loved the bouillabaisse, but I've had equally good bouillabaisse other places. I liked the peach dessert, the basil granitas was quite nice and refreshing. On the service side the waiter assumed that my friend and I hadn't seen each other in a while, which we hadn't, but mistook our chatting for not wanting to order for a good 20 minutes. The meal wasn't super pricey for the quality, but given the size of the dishes I would have hoped for a little more in the flavor department.

a real grown up restaurant in my neighborhood! very, very well executed. very nice wine list and a great room too. i'll be back...

We went to this restaurant on our first night in NYC, having been to quite a few michelin starred restaurants in the UK we can comfortably say that this place sits happily among them in quality. The food is fantastic, every mouthful is a flavor sensation! The atmosphere is very relaxed, the staff are attentive and helpful, the drinks list is extensive and the cocktails are delicious. Having gone all out to try as much as possible we were shocked at how little the bill came to. Go now before Liebrandt branches out to a second restaurant in Manhattan and maybe spends less time here.

Interesting and tasty food
Very rich food but (thankfully) small portions. Very interesting combinations of flavors and all very fresh. Very reasonably priced for the quality. Rather a limited menu, but other than that, all good. Wines are also reasonably priced and there's a great selection, particularly from France. Based on hearing our wine preferences, Somm. recommended a Napa merlot which we had not heard of before and it hit the mark perfectly.
Also fun was being "downstairs" and looking up a the trees in the street.
Very enjoyable experience, and will repeat.

Take the journey
We chose to sit at the bar, in the wonderful company of bar manager, Kevin. His passion for his work was apparent, and his take on food and beverage pairings was innovative and very solid.
Let the staff at The Elm take you on a culinary journey. They know what they're doing.

Outstanding for the neighborhood. Everything was nearly perfect.

The Elm Is Tops
Chef Paul Liebrandt's cuisine is stellar! Wine pairings were perfect. Service is friendly and professional; the ambiance is pleasant; and prices are a steal for food of such superb caliber.
Looking forward to a return visit very soon.

Casual Vibe, Exquisite Food
Visit The Elm. Open kitchen; friendly, knowledgeable staff; outstanding cuisine. Everything was delicious and service seemed effortlessly prompt.

We had an exceptionally good meal. The food is inventive without being pretentious, service is helpful and friendly and the space is great. Pricey, but recommended for a special occasion.

Excellent restaurant which features unique preparation of high quality food!

Good but not great
I was extremely excited to eat at The Elm. Recent reviews from food critics have been very good. We were sitted promptly for our reservation, unfortunately is was not in the main room. It was a small room adjacent to the main room, that felt remote and secluded. Some of the food was excellent, like the Lamb (but couscous was blan), Fra Gra and the fruit tart. Turbot was tasteless.. Dishes are very small.

Off to a great start...
Wonderful meal with fantastic service. Wine list was a fun read.

Absolutely fantastic food!
Absolutely fantastic food! would recommend to anyone as a great culinary adventure.

Very good but not perfect
I enjoyed dinner very much, however, it is suggested that diners order three items and, if you're not ordering one of the four "to share" items, then you're essentially selecting three items from 12 choices. And since some of the choices are of the same "type," i.e., you're not going to order the lamb and the short rib, the choices are a bit too few for my liking. I don't expect The Elm to offer 1,000 choices, but the menu is a bit limited. Also, the service was far from excellent - our butter and bread dishes and knives were left on our table throughout the entire service; the wrong appetizer was brought, a drink had to be re-ordered because the waiter forgot; the table next to us got their drinks comped b/c it took so long to get them.

Get overwhelmed at The Elm
The Elm truely is a neighborhood gem. Hard to find especially using Apples' maps & directions. The ambiance was chic, modern and designed for comfort. Multiple waitstaff cater to your every need. The food was organic gourmet masterpieces of deliciousness. My children enjoyed the toast and left still hungry. The comment card indicated there was rooftop dining. Perhaps on a romantic evening with hubby (no kids) we could be overwhelmed at The Elm.

Best skate and pork belly
Living just 2 blocks away from the restaurant my fiance and I were hesitant to find out whether The Elm will stand up to our palate and expectations. We were pleasantly surprised by the attentive service and some memorable dishes that made the dinner spectacular and so proud for this neighborhood to host such a gem. The innovative and modern French cuisine introduced by The Elm was not only tasted great but playfully presented, appealing to all five senses. I started the dinner with the steak tartar (which I am partial to in general), the grilled skate, and shared the pork belly entree. My fiance had the scallop tom yum (very flavorful than most Thai restaurant), grilled duck. The skate was the stand out dish of them all, a must try.

Small plates, unusual presentations
Our group of 4 arrived at 6:30. Because it was early, noise level was down (which we appreciated). By 8:30, it was fairly "lively". Food was great, imaginative, and we could share many of the small plates. Nice wine list and well informed sommelier.

Delicate flavors, beautifully done
A lovely meal. While the portions were small, our server gave us helpful advice on how to order, and we ended up with a meal that satisfied our appetites fully. The lamb was excellent, with a stand-out eggplant accompaniment, but the star dish was the "garden" share, which was truly remarkable. A range of intense flavors, and every vegetable or herb had been prepared in the manner best suited to bring out its flavor. Depending on whether one took a single bite or a larger one with a few things on the fork, the tastes varied wonderfully. Some bites exploded on the palate, while others were subtle and delicate. It was a beautiful dish. Our desserts were also delicious.

Chef Liebrandt's creativity
Chef Liebrandt's creativity and talent are apparent at the Elm. Pulling ingredients from all over the world (North African spices, lemongrass, etc.), the flavors were diverse and packed a punch in relatively small bites. Highly recommend the Scallop Gnudi and Elysian Fields Lamb. The service reflected some confusion about whether or not the Elm is of the urban rustic Brooklyn type or a swankier, Manhattan-ish scene. Our waitress struggled to be heard over the youngish and loud music, which was unfortunate considering the many thoughtful details that went into the dishes. Despite this, the Elm was overall an excellent food experience.

Beautiful Food, Incredible Flavor
The food was like artwork coming out of the kitchen and the flavors didn't disappoint either. Every bite was exciting a new. I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Great new find.
Great place to take friends and family for something special. The staff and food was both outstanding. There is definitetely a very casual vibe about the place but don't let that fool you. The flavor combinations are very sophisticated and well thought out.

On the way to greatness
I took my bf there
Place: beautiful, high ceilings, very modern decoration, open kitchen, few booths, perfect lightening
Service: Charming and friendly, attentionate, excellent recommendations. Our waitress Tricia was amazing! She was excellent advise on the dishes order. 1 mistake: The glasses for our 2 orders came fast but the wine came 15 minutes later (the amuse-bouche were long eaten!)
Food: DIVINE. The bf looooved the ribs, he was close to lick the plate. The scallop is innovative & delicious Excellent turbot - a tiny excess of "moutarde a l'ancienne" for me but cooked to perfection. And oh the presentation of the dishes is phenomenal! You HAVE to share the berry tart, beyond any description!
Hello Little Elm. Hello Michelin star(s)

Best meal I've had this year. Outstanding food. Wonderful service. Highly recommended.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
The food was delicious! Not great amounts though, considering the occasion rather small and considering the price I would say small again. The place is modern and beautiful. Excellent service. Nice wine selection. Nice area, with easy parking. If the turkey pieces were more/bigger, I would give them five stars. I would go there again in a regular day.

My husband and I came here for our anniversary. I consider myself a foodie - I love cooking and trying all sorts of new food. Not only was this one of the best meals I have had in NYC, it's one of the best meals I have ever had. Every dish was so flavorful, we were both sad when it was over. The restaurant is beautiful, and the staff was fun, friendly, and attentive.

Brunch was DELICIOUS
We loved the offering at brunch, it was a perfect balance of sweet/savory/breakfast. The decor is gorgeous and the service is friendly. The pastries weren't out-of-this-world good but I would definitely come back for the Lobster Benedict. Great job!
