Really Nice Restaurant
We recently dined here and had a very nice experience. We had both their traditional drinks and their hand crafted drinks. I had the Jefe Austin which was a combination of mescal and ginger beer that was terrific. The Capitol flatbread appetizer was really nice and could have been a meal in itself. The Cesar salad had a nice crisp Parmesan wrap around it which was very unique and good. I had the ruby trout and my wife had the shrimp and grits and they were terrific. Our wait staff had proper knowledgeable about the hand crafted drinks and the menu items. The bar looks terrific. It also looks like they have a nice happy hour. This restaurant would be a great start to the Zachary Scott Theater and events in nearby Zilker Park.

Sadly, it seems that all the restaurants feel the need for a LOUD ("Energetic??????") atmosphere. While I enjoyed the piano music and singing, that and the other diners made it impossible for me to hear the person at the end of our table of six guests.

Very enjoyable evening!
We met two friends for dinner. The place was full and I was glad we had reservations. We were seated quickly and, as requested, sat at a table by the window. The piano music added to the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The waitress gave us ample time to visit and make our selections. The flatbread was a tasty starter for four people. The pulled pork sliders were really delicious; we had (and shared) them for our main dish. The small serving of fried onion rings are a nice complement to the sliders. Wine was priced just a bit more than we normally spend. Decaf coffee was perfect because it actually allowed me to sleep and didn't keep me awake as do other decaf coffees. Noise level is high when full.

While looking through Open Table for something new, my wife and I picked out Flour and Vine based on the reviews and location (not having to deal with downtown). Upon arriving, we were happy to find easy parking connected to the restaurant. After a slow start the service improved greatly through the night. The decor and bar were great and the food was presented beautifully and tasted great from start to finish. Save some room for the Zeppoli dessert...you won't be disappointed. The chef deserves kudos for imagination and flavor. We'll throw Flour and Vine into our dining out rotation.

Wonderful new spot!
Flour & Vine is one of our new favorites! We love the ambience, the location is excellent and parking is a breeze. The food was outstanding, as was the service.

Great deal for pre-theater dinner
We had dinner here before a show at the Zach Scott Theatre (a short walk from the restaurant). Started with a Pimms Cup to drink, and decided to share several appetizer for dinner., After we selected them, we found out they were all half price for happy hour. Our favorite was the lemon-baked shrimp (we had a second order of that), but the crawfish mac and cheese was delicious, too. The lettuce wraps were good, but not as good as the others. The Zeppolis with ice cream were a perfect ending!

Nice Return Visit
We ate here a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it, so we came back when we decided to see a show at the Zachary Scott Theater. If going to the Zach, I would suggest making a reservation at Flour and Vine at 6pm. First drop your spouse, partner, date, s.o., off at the restaurant then drive one block down to the Zach, park your car (free), and walk back to the restaurant and enjoy the beginning of a nice evening. Tell the wait person that you will be attending a show at the Zach. The food, drinks and service were just as nice this time as the last time. It was the perfect start to a nice evening and show.

Good Happy Hour
A nice improvement over the previous establishment at this location (Hugos)

Very nice food, great location
We had tickets to the Zach theatre and were looking for a restaurant close to the theatre. I did a google search and came up with Flour and Vine, which was a short block walk to the theatre. This is a new restaurant. There were 4 of us, and we were all pleased. We will definitely come back again.

A friend recommended this new dining venue. It was more than I expected. Great food, great service, great music playing softly in the background. There is nothing I did not like about this restaurant. Cannot wait to return! Would recommend this establishment to everyone, and what a great location - across the street from the Zach Theater.

Will go back
We loved every dish we got of the small plates, large plates, and desserts. Not so easy to please with a gourmet cook in the family, we still left loving everything and want to come try more. Our server was great and everyone was very attentive and friendly.

This was my second visit to Flour and Vine. Five others in my group had been there a few times. The food is delicious. The crab mac & cheese was a perfect starter to share. Big plates are big. The appetizers and salads are so good that it's hard to enjoy those, plus a big plate, so consider sharing. Love that they cut the Caesar salad up bite size. We arrived early on a Friday and the restaurant filled up quickly making service very slow about mid-way through out meal. They definitely need another bus person who can fill water and collect plates. Our charming waiter was well informed about their excellent wine selection and offered tastes. Everyone worked hard but you can only do so much when short staffed.

Great veggie lasanga
Being a vegetarian I appreciated the veggie options including lettuce wraps and lasanga.

Eat dinner here en route to Zach
My wife and I weren't going to a Zach show this time, but the next time we do, we'll stop here first. (The ladies dining next to us did exactly that.) When we were trying to decide between a couple of wines, our waiter brought us tastes so we could make an informed decision, which we really appreciated. We started with the crayfish mac and cheese, which was tasty. Our next course was The Capitol, a wonderful flatbread/pizza with figs, pecans and brie. It's a perfect combination of flavors and we devoured it quickly. Our entree was the lamb Bolognese over Pappardelle pasta. The long strips of this house-made pasta paired well with the rich lamb sauce. It's too bad we didn't have room for dessert; we'll save room next time.

We ate here before seeing Janis at the Zach Scott. I had mistakenly reserved the wrong night but the hostess was gracious and found us a table. We decided to share several of the small dishes. I'll start with the absolute best...the crayfish mac and cheese is awesome. My husband is still raving about it. The chicken lettuce wraps were very tasty as were the sweet potato fries and the Caprese Salad. The lemon baked shrimp were okay (not bad but not as good as the rest of the meal). Our waitress was excellent. Our food came quickly but wasn't rushed. I would definitely eat here again.

Among all the restaurants that are popping-up in Austin, Flour and Wine stands out because the food is tasty, the ingredients tasted fresh and the price is reasonable. The atmosphere is relaxing, and neither the food nor the service is pretentious.
The desserts were really good; clean flavors and not annoyingly sweet like most restaurant desserts

Great service with good food
Our server Dustin was exceptional, anticipating our every need. The food was good but not great. Baked shrimp were somewhat dry but the sauce was excellent. Filet mignon was tasty but underseasoned and served with a sweet-tasting wine reduction. Mostly, though, the lack of vegetables, especially fresh veggies, was a disappointment. The Ceasar Salad greens weren't very fresh and the amount of veggies served with entrees consisted of 4 asparagus spears on my plate and 4 small heirloom tomatoes on my date's plate. Veggies are cheap and really add to a meal.
8/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
First visit after they changed concept from Hugo's to Flour and Vine. The menu is very vegetarian friendly. The blistered peppers and sweet potato fries as small plates were delicious as starters. The fig and Brie flatbread pizza also very good. A bit sweet for me but our guests loved it. Large enough to be shared at least by two people. The chocolate flourless cake was fantastic. A big hunk of dark chocolate. You must be a chocolate lover to love this cake which my co-diners are and they loved every bite. I ordered the panna cotta which was not that great unfortunately. The texture was a little rubbery, not soft and smooth as panna cotta should be. For the middle of the week, the restaurant was busy. A good sign. Good service
8/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good food, great service!
Our waitress did a great job of making sure I had choices that took into account my various food allergies. The food was delicious and the service was prompt and curteous. We will be back (with friends) for sure!
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
delicious and fun
Flour and Vine = a fun new restaurant with delicious, beautiful food. The trout was excellent. The service couldn't have been better.Check out this place next time you're in downtown Austin.
8/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were pleasantly surprised by the high food quality and reasonable prices. I don't mind paying more if I get something I really enjoyed, and unfortunately that rarely happens at the higher priced restaurants we have tried. This restaurant delivered the goods, from the barley beef soup infused with flavor; the generous portion of Caeser salad for $6 with the parmesan chips (yum); the lemon baked gulf shrimp with 4 giant breaded shrimp sumptuously flavored with a light lemon cream sauce; the spicy shrimp served on a bed of creamy, full bodied grits; to the surf and turf featuring filet mignon that tasted like expensive aged beef with 4 nicely grilled shrimp (the priciest at $22). Zeppoli had an offtaste, not sweet. Benches need cushions.

I am a home chef; as a result, Both my partner and I are extremely picky. I had pan fried snapper. It was the BEST fish I have ever had. Crispy and flaky. Flavorful. Well balanced with briney olives, heirloom tomatoes, and a nice subdued mushroom risotto cake. My partner enjoyed the surf and turf. The panko shrimp appetizer was also delicious. The chocolate truffle cake was also very good. Service was good. Nice wine selection. Not too loud. I suggest reservations because it is small. Very nice surprise. Will definitely return.

A big yes!
Great menu, excellent food, friendly and competent waitstaff. We will definitely be back!

Too doggie for me
Austin is too unique sometimes. This was my first experience at a nice restaurant where another diner had a small non-service dog seated next to her inside the restaurant. A server even brought a bowl of water for the dog. I'm just thankful they arrived during our 3rd and final course.

Great Food and Wine!
My husband and I went here for a date and were not disappointed! The food was great as well as the service and the wine!
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food and service are great!
Loved the food and the service. The fried green tomatoes were absolutely perfect, as was my Caesar Salad. My husband loved his chicken wraps, which were big chunks of meat served in butter lettuce, and his flatbread pizza was so large that we ended up taking most of it home.
The restaurant is so loud that it's best to go with a group. My husband and I won't try going there for date night again.
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
I hate to share...
A local suggested Flour and Vine last weekend when we were there to visit our daughter at UT. We were very impressed with the food and service. Now I need to figure out how to make their brie appetizer - everyone at our table enjoyed it. It's hard to get my husband to admit that he likes a new restaurant, but he was wowed!

Very Good for Pre Theater Dinner
My wife and I went to Flour and Vine before a performance at Zach. As we are from out of town we made sure we arrived early and were the second group seated in the dining room. Our tickets to Zach got us a free appetizer and we shared the Sausage and Cheese platter. It was excellent - the sausage was spicy but right on, the Humbolt Fog cheese was perfect and the onion marmelade was a nice accompaniment. For main courses we had the surf and turf (shrimp and hanger steak with roasted potatoes and cauliflower) and the pork chop with mashed sweet potatoes. Both were very good though the pork chop was a tad overcooked and a touch dry. We shared a Lime tart for dessert. All was good. Wine prices are reasonable but a touch higher than I like.

Great Theatre Gem
This is a great spot for Zach goers and has a wonderful patio.

Great Pre-Theater Date Spot
This was my second time coming to Flour and Vine.
After a charming first experience (loved the snapper) with great service and food, I decided to bring my girlfriend back here for our last date as boyfriend/girlfriend. A few short hours after our lovely and tasty meal and following a great performance of Les Miserables at the Zach Topfer Theater (easy walking distance without moving the car... Don't tell the boss), my lovely girlfriend became my fiancee. I was thrilled to have such a tasty, elegant and smooth restaurant perfectly located for our special evening.
My compliments on the Snapper and the Shrimp and Grits.

Glad we went
It's a really great restaurant, the food was excellent and unique in presentation and concept. Despite being right off South Lamar it wasn't noisy, plus convenient parking in a garage right next to the restaurant, we will definitely go back.

New wait person Erin was fabulous! Love Dustin as well. Food deeeeeeelicious!

six of us had a most enjoyable time, not over-priced but slightly upscale. a worthy place to enjoy anytime.

Great neighborhood restaurant!
Great neighborhood restaurant! Super food! Service was 'off' the last night we attended but usually is great!
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Minimalistic décor with interesting artwork and tall ceilings make the intimate restaurant feel larger than it is. The small plates menu is quite good but you must try the flat bread. We actually bought another and took it home. Prosciutto with arugula and goat cheese tantalized the senses. Good choice of seafood dishes. Wine list is good, but not great.

A gem of a restaurant
My group of six had an outstanding dining experience at Flour & Vine. We loved everything about this restaurant: the food was incredible (unique and different choices, but without going way out there in left field, as some trendy restaurants seem to do these days); the service was just the right pace and attentiveness; and the "look" of the restaurant is very attractive and pleasant. The noise level was just right - not so quiet that other people could hear your conversation, but the room was designed so that you could have a conversation w/ your dinner companions. There were several things on the menu that were some of the best dishes I've ever tasted. Definitely going back! (and soon!) Oh, and they have free parking! Huge bonus!
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food & service
We enjoyed the food and fun with the great Travezoo deal
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Try this new restaurant!
I was reluctant to try this place because we had a bad experience at the former establishment in the same location. Glad we did! "Flour and Vine" was a great dining experience!! Food was delicious, service was outstanding and we'll definitely be back.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
We dined at Flour and Vine prior to attending the theater and have fallen in love! The food, service, and atmosphere are absolutely stellar and well worth our time and money.
11/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
They had a broad selection of vegetarian options and even offered to adjust other items to accomodate us. The brie was everyones favorite. Our server was fantastic. The atmosphere was gorgeous. I highly recommend this place.

Very nice menu - good food
Very nice menu - good food - pleasant but very slow service. Next to Zach Theater - Good place for before show dinner. Would recommend and would definitely return.
11/2/2013 5:00:00 PM
We went with a group and ordered many dishes so we could taste everything. Loved the Mac and crawfish, the risotto with mushrooms and oyster, and the panini. The desserts were wonderful. Everything else was good. Will definitely go back. Our waitress took at turn at the piano singing and she was very good and it didn't interrupt our service.
11/2/2013 5:00:00 PM
Great for date night
My fiancé and I went here for our date night. The food was delicious, we had a romantic table by the window and a lovely time. We will definitely be back!

Very Tasty Food
my wife and i enjoyed the black drum fish in parchment with bok choy and mushrooms underneath and the pasta with lamb meatballs was savory. our guests were impressed with their pork chop with pomegranate chutney and shrimp/grits.

Very Good Happy Hour and Food
My wife and I had a meeting downtown and ended up arriving 45 minutes early for a dinner reservation before a play at the Zach. As a result we enjoyed their happy hour and then continued with dinner. The drink and happy hour specials are real bargains. Good food and good drinks. The sausage/cheese plate is excellent and the fried green tomatoes are good. For dinner we had good crisp salads of good lettuces and ingredients. For main courses we had the baked chicken (outstanding) and the surf and turf (very good). For dessert we shared a goat cheese tart. The happy hour is highly worthwhile and Flour and Vine is a great place for dinner.
11/20/2013 4:00:00 PM
Simply put, food was stellar. The small plates were excellent and the crusted brie with honey/habanero sauce was the most delicious food I have eaten in recent time, and the goat cheese infused dessert was the best non-chocolate dessert I have ever had in my life. Yes, it was that good. Waiter recommended wine was a winner too. We will definitely be back as there were several other small plates and large plates we are wanting to try. Great job! Nice place : )
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
The food and service was exceptional. Appetizers, salad, entrees, dessert, drinks and wine were all well prepared. Service was timely and friendly. It was a great date night!
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
Perfect for a nice night out
Plenty of parking, good staff, stout drinks, a nice wine list, and great food made this an awesome anniversary pick.
Flatbread was excellent, chesse plate full of savory surprises, surf n turf was great, and the snapper was so fresh, you thought they just caught it..

Very Good and Reliable
Needed spot for dinner on a Friday night with out-of-town friends to both satisfy our picky palettes and enjoy long conversation in a comfortable setting. FNV has become very consistent as a reliable place for good food and ambiance. Highly recommended! Bread pudding dessert with ice cream and fresh coffee were good topper for evening. Prices appropriate.
