a gem that shines on Service
We spent our 25th wedding anniversary in Boston over Memorial Day. We decided to dine at the restaurant because of its location in the North End being close to our Hotel, the Marriott Long Wharf. The Bruins play off game was on and the wait staff was all wonderful attending to the diners but also high- fiving the diners each time the bruins scored. Each waiter not only took care of their own tables but also filled water glasses of other diners if their waiter was busy. Food was superb as well . We will coming back over the summer as we live just 26 miles away from Boston.

We went for lunch and had the restaurant to ourselves which was a treat! The Puttanesca was robust and amazingly good! I will definitely be back!

Excellent food, excellent service
We took a couple of friends here to celebrate their engagement. Our waitress was very friendly and prompt. We had the Eggplant appetizer, fried calamari, shrimp scampi, the Sunday Macaroni, the Frutti di Mare, and a Filet Mignon. Initially our waitress was a little hesitant when we requested special ways of preparing things (hot peppers on the side with the calamari) and filet mignon with the sauce on the side, but the chef was very accommodating and everything was absolutely delicious. Although there's no kids' menu, our 11 year old was able to eat what he liked (and he'd loved the food!). We split a pitcher of sangria which came pretty strong and provided several glasses each for 3 of us. We'll go back again.

little gem in little Italy
We loved the whole dining experience starting the moment we arrived. We had a romantic table on the street, felt like a part of the neighborhood. Stephen was very amiable and helpful. Hearing him describe the dishes as he helped us make our selections was almost as delicious as the dinner itself, each plate beautifully presented in perfect timing.

Ambiance was lovely as was
Ambiance was lovely as was the location. The only problem was that the food was served way too quickly which diminished the whole dining experience although it was still very good.

Fantastic table next to the
Fantastic table next to the open window overlooking the flow of people on Hanover St. Steve- our wait person was extremely helpful with dinner selections, wine choices and was also very personable. Both dinners were tasty: the pork chop and chicken in a wine sauce. Our favorite however was the meatball appetizer: they rivaled my own.
Definitely will return

So far the best on Hanover St.
We have been in several restaurants on Hanover Street and Carmelina's has been the best so far. Food is excellent. Good solid service and a table by the window topped the experience.

Carmelina's for Anniversary Dinner
Great spot for people watching. It was smaller than I expected, but it wasn't a problem. My reservations were honored on time (even though I was a few minutes late). The appetizers and dinners were phenomenal, and it was great to see a very reasonably priced wine list. Overall, a great pick!

One of the best
My fiancé and I have eaten at several restaurants in the North End, but this place really stood out. The eggplant appetizer was amazing and each of our main courses were both plentiful and mouth watering. Great atmosphere too as it sits right on Hanover. We'll def be back!

We had a wonderful experience
We had a wonderful experience at Carmelita's. The food was wonderful. The service was great. Though the space is small, it was very comfortable, and the ambiance was great!

Feels like being at Grandma's!
Walking in the door at Camelinas brought back memories of the dinners at my Noni's. The aromas of sauce cooking on the stove, fresh cheese, bread baking. We started with the baked meatballs that we tasty followed by the roasted beet salad and pastas. Everything was delicious. I will definitely be back when I am in town again.

So good, we went 2ce in 3 days!
This week we had the great pleasure to enjoy dining here not once - but 2ce! It was so amazing that we went back a 2nd time and ordered almost the exact same things. We loved the Baby Eggplant dish. The sauce on it is heavenly and you have the feeling that it is a family recipe that has been passed through the generations. Sitting by the window was a treat and we could enjoy people watching while dining. Highly recommend. We were traveling with a group and several others also dined here with much happiness!

Delicious new Italian
Overall a delicious meal. Our calamari was a little rubbery but everything else was delicious.

Carmelina's - a find in North End
What a lovely little restaurant. 5 of us went before a concert at the TD Garden. It was quiet since it was a Tuesday night and early (5PM). Carmelina's has only a dozen or so tables but their menu avoids the lasagna and veal standards, which for us is a wonderful thing. We ordered salads and 3 large appetizers (shrimp & garlic, baked meatballs, risotto), and one order of the Sunday macaroni. All wonderful. Good beer and wine list. And, as we ate, our waitress came by with a bowl of shrimp scampi that the chef had made by mistake. I've never seen that happen! Highly recommended. There were 5 of us and we made a reservation. We will definitely go back.

Best neal of our vacation
Our visit to Carmelinas was a very pleasant surprise. During our 1 night stay prior to our flight out of Boston we chose Carmelinas based on our research on Open Table and the many wonderful reviews. The aroma as we walked into the restaurant was amazing. It's very small, so we were glad we made reservations because we wuld not have wanted to miss this. My Chicken cardinale was delicious and plentiful and my husbands chop (can't remember if it was veal or pork) was extraordinary and an incredibly large portion. We sat beside the open front of the restaurant and the vibrant street scene added to the ambiance of the restaurant. We will definitely recommend it to friends.
7/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had a great night at Camelina's! The baby eggplant and risotto were wonderful appetizers. Each of our entrees was great. Nick, our waiter, make a good time - great! He recommended a nice wine and was fun and energetic.
7/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Most everything good
Our wait staff accommodated our desire to sit by the window with no problem. They were courteous and attentive. We were dining with friends we hadn't seen in a long time, so they were very patient with us. Dinners for three of us were excellent, however one of our diners ordered the swordfish, and it was thin and dry. That was very disappointing. However, the other three of us got variations of their Sea Bass dish, and it was excellent. The atmosphere was very nice, and we never felt rushed. Our waiter was very attentive and informative. Overall a good experience - with the exception of the swordfish.
7/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
My husband and I went into town for the day and wanted a good italian rest. for dinner. We pick Carmelina's from reviews we saw online. The location was great, right in the middle of the north end. The food was awesome and the service was great. The roasted swordfish tossed with capers, oregano and pasta was fabulous! We would return!
7/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
We stayed in the North End of Boston for a week and had dinner our last evening at Carmelina's..
It was by far the best meal we had - and all week we ate amazing food at restsurants in the North
End. The pollo calebrese was fantastic as was the chicken piccata. Service was good - not great - an
Energetic and attentive waitress but not interactive. We had some if the best wait staff at
Other restaurants in the north end.
8/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great people watching,awesome food
We had a delectable eggplant appetizer and fresh entrees, pastas and swordfish. Everything was tasty. This place is right across from Mike's Pastry so we saw many many visitors and locals alike. Great people watching. Service was warm and friendly. We can't wait to go back!
8/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
North End Fun
Cute space with huge windows looking out to Hanover St. We were on time for our reservation and seated at a nice table. The menu had a few specials and the kids enjoyed themselves. For a first timer to Boston, I felt like the Open Table review were accurate. A nice place
8/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great all round! New North End Gem!
I was typing in my review when i noticed i was already 500 characters over the limit! Here's the short form. Service - fantastic! Food - best I've had in years. Ambience - authentic North End (the front was open to Hanover Street, complete with crowded sidewalks, traffic, and parking motorcycles). Took the whole family (5) plus two out of town guests. Carmelina's definitely goes on the regular list from now on. Can't give it a high enough rating!
8/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent food, lousy service
We have been here before and the food was amazing both times. Everyone in our party of 4 got something different and everyone raved about their food. Our service was lousy. The waiter wasn't attentive at all, we had to prompt him and he didn't ask us if we wanted dessert or coffee. They just brought us the check. I guess they wanted to turn the table over.
Regardless, the food is so delicious that we will be back!

Carmelina's North End
Carmelina's on a Saturday night. The entire North End was packed as the Yankees were in town. We couldn't find parking and were late for our reservation but they couldn't have been nicer. Our server was an adorable young woman who was exceptional. She was friendly and knowledgeable, other support staff helped provide excellent service. Two in our party had the sea bass with delicious accompaniments and a flavorful Marsala sauce. The sea bass was cooked just right. Others had the gnocchi and another pasta dish with eggplant, the tomato sauce was light and tasty. Had the mussels appetizer with a unique cream sauce that I have never had before, delicious! The window wall was open to give us open air dining right on Hanover Street.

Great food and service
Enjoyed a wonderful dinner in the north end on a Thursday night. Service was warm and friendly but not overbearing in any way. Suggested the meatballs and eggplant appetizers which were spot on. Our entrees were Chilean sea bass, chicken, and seared tuna risotto. I would return for the fish dishes. Keep in mind no desserts - they recommend One of the pastry shops and beer and wine only.
8/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was really good and
The food was really good and the service was excellent. Right in the middle of the North End with a great view of all the action on Hanover St. The tables are turned over pretty quickly (they don't serve coffee and dessert) but we didn't feel rushed at all. Small, crowded and a lot of activity but not distracting at all. I will defiantly go back again. Might even make it one of my "hot spots" :)
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Carmelina draws you in!
From the moment you walk by the smell draws you in, we could tell even after we sat down that we weren't the only ones who think so, everyone who walks clients on how delicious it smells. From the hot fresh bread (with oil and hummus) to our mains (penne gorgonzola and proscuitto stuffed pork chop) we were very impressed. The food was generously proportioned and seasoned to a T. The prices were very reasonable. The only thing I'd change would be the amount of pour on drinks. They serve in huge glasses with a small pour - making it seemed like you're getting jipped.
But that wouldn't deter me from going back. The open air concept on the street of Hanover is always entertaining. Do not pass up this restaurant.

A Home Run from Start to Finish
Dined with my wife on 08/31/13. This place knocked it out of the ball park for us! Definitely falls into the top 5 best restaurants in the North End in my opinion and we have eaten at almost every one of them. Started with the fried calamari and the lollipop lamb chops for appetizers. The calamari was perfectly crunchy and the lamb chops were meaty and bursting with flavor. For our mains my wife had some home made fettucine w/sausage, shrimp, and chicken in a tomato cream sauce. It was amazing. I had the Chilean sea bass marsala and it too was simply incredible. I would go back to this place in a heartbeat. It has some creative dishes that you won;t find at other establishments in the North End and the service is very friendly.

Great North End gem. Location
Great North End gem. Location and ambiance is amazing. Food is a little disappointing in comparison, but still of amazing quality and well worth the price.

Another Amazing meal at Carmelina's
Relaxed delicious dinner with friends visiting from out of state. Started the meal with fried baby eggplant and (my favorite) exploding clams and an exceptional pinot grigio. We ended up sharing the Pollo Cardinale, a side dish of Sautéed Rapi Greens And Chicken (which was large enough to qualify as an entree) and more clams in Spaghetti With Clams in a white wine, lemon sauce. Service was friendly and efficient even though the restaurant was full. My friends really enjoyed the great Hanover St people watching from the table at the open windows and could not wait to tell other friends in the Boston suburbs about the meal they enjoyed.
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Yes, there is a dessert place across the street, but I guess it felt odd to pay a bill and leave and then go somewhere else for coffee and dessert!
Risotto with Mushroom was excellent. Gnocchi with tomato sauce was pretty good but not a knockout. We were most impressed with the fact that real Italians had come to eat here than with the actual food.
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Truly novel and delicious food!
We had a wonderful evening with some of the best Italian food I've had in the Boston area or possibly anywhere. My friends would agree, and they live in New York City and visit Italy regularly. The food is incredible - delicately seasoned, beautifully presented and just a pleasure to eat and behold. The waitstaff were wonderful - patient and helpful throughout. Really made for a perfect evening!

Great North End Food
Small, busy trattoria with fast service. Had shrimp risotto which was densely flavored and very well executed. Wine list very reasonable as are the food prices. Why wait an hour in line down the street？

Cozy Italian Dining
Carmelina's is a small, cozy restaurant in the North End. The food & atmosphere were great, the open windows made it seem like sidewalk dining. The waitress spoke Italian, which made it fun and the marsala sauce & the seafood dishes were great. Calamari appetizer was small & did not come with any dipping sauce, but they quickly made up for it. Although there are a ton of restaurants in the area, we would dine there again.
9/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
There are a lot of restaurants
There are a lot of restaurants to choose from in the North End, but not a lot of outstanding restaurants to choose from. I would put Carmelina's on your short list to make sure you visit.
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
Authentic Italian dinner
Come here for a homemade, authentic Italian meal. The food was fresh and the staff was attentive. We recommend starting with the calimari or risotto. For entrees try one of the following: Sunday dinner (pasta with red sauce served with meatballs, ribs and sausage), gnocchi or steak pizzaole.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
I am not one for a lot of words. Simply said this is an excellent restaurant in the north end. It is a small 40 seat restaurant so you have to expect a bit of a wait on a busy Friday night even with a reservation. Ours was about 15 minutes but the host and waitress were very hospitable and the food and wine were excellent.
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Hanover Street Central
Perfect location on Hanover in the heart of North End. Booked a table 2 hours before dining, and although it was a very busy Saturday night in Boston, we were seated upon arrival. As noted in previous reviews, the restaurant has windows that open to the street, so it's like sitting outdoors, but in shelter and comfort, with a great view for people-watching. The food was excellent. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. Would definitely visit again.

Great dinner at Carmelina's
Five of us, including two international visitors, ate a Carmelina's on Saturday night. Good thing we had a reservation on OpenTable as there was a one hour wait. There was a terrific daily specials menu. The appetizers of mussels and meatballs were terrific. Several of us had a lobster fra diavolo which was outstanding and chock full of lobster, shrimp and calamari. Everyone enjoyed their dishes. In addition, we tried several Italian red wines that were great value for the money. We will definitely go back.

Great North End find
The very best Northern Italian. We even went back the next night with a party of 8. Now my favorite in Boston. Across the street from Mike"s Pastry. Chicken piccata perfect. Sea bass wonderful, gnocchi, risotto, arugula salad -all outstanding!!
11/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
The place is adorable, and the food is outstanding. Try the main mushroom dish and the spicy spaghetti. Wonderful and very reasonably priced.
11/3/2013 4:00:00 PM
Most amazing Italian food!
This small and inviting North End restaurant is one not to miss on a trip to Boston. Our party of four ordered different items and shared. Especially wonderful was the crazy Alfredo and the penne with tomato cream sauce and gorgonzola. The menu is long on Italian wines with a few domestic labels as well. I will definitely recommend Carmelina's to anyone traveling to Boston.
11/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
If you don't mind an open kitchen, the place on a Friday night was cozy, crowded and celebratory. The food, from the calamari with chilies to the filet mignon, was exceptional. We all loved it and will return!
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
What a great meal
I can't say enough about the food. Outstanding and different menu than so many Noeth End menus. Excellent wines reasonably priced, making it an even better experience.Note; this is a tiny restaurant so book ahead.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Date night delight
The food is delicious, portions sizes healthy, and the wine menu is very good. Perhaps that's why John Travolta jammed up the restaurant on Saturday. Also, note that the prices are quite reasonable-definitely worth repeated visits. Do try the lamb lollipops when you go!
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Carmelina's was an excellent choice for our group dinner. The dining space is small but the restaurant owners do a wonderful job of positioning the tables so you are not on top of your neighbor. The wine choices were extensive. The food was delicious - fresh, fresh, fresh and authentic. A simple salad was made memorable with the dressing and italian cheeses. The baked gnocchi was garnished with small mozzarella balls that melted into the sauce. Nice touch and flavor. The server was attentive, knowledgable, on top of our dining experience. We had a reservation at 8:00pm on a busy night and didn't wait a second.
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
Warm friendly and amazing meal.
I loved our evening. The food was fantastic as indicated. The atmosphere is great and I did not feel like I was in one of those North End places geared toward tourists. Finally the staff was great. Really friendly and inviting. I did not feel rushed. It was a great night and I will return.
11/18/2013 4:00:00 PM
First time here, great location and ambiance. Highly recommend!

It was late for a week night, they were still very accommodating , friendly, nice
11/24/2013 4:00:00 PM
I was going to Carmelina's when they were located in Hadley, MA several years ago. I followed them to the North End in Boston and they are everything I remembered and more. The Crazy Alfredo is a classic. All seafood entrees are wonderful, and the red meat selections are excellent as well. You definitely need to have the tuna appetizer...WOW!
