Finally a restaurant is here
While dining in the desert for over 40 years finally a restaurant that has connected all the dots, the food coupled with the service and a very prompt reservation system that gets this restaurant a 5 star for knowing what they are doing. The only complaint was the Paella was absent the Saffron. We are eager to get back and try the Tappas.

We had a wonderful evening. Seated in a booth with guitar music coming from the patio,we had excellent service so good that we never experienced any pause in the smooth orchestration of the meal.
First course chicken liver was to die for and the steak and scallops were cooked just right. Accompanying vegetable were delicious-spininch and a medley of perhaps endive and mushrooms.
Best meal we have had in the Desert in many years!

As always, the food was superb. If you love Paella, this is the place! The special coctail of the night - Pear Mojito, was great. Our server was stunning, delightful, knowledgeable, but not intrusive. (I don't remember her name, just that she used to be an investment banker!) I was there with my most improtant customer and his wife. She informed us that one of the dishes we ordered was going to take about 20 minutes more, and so she offered us olives and pate to tide us over! That was brilliant; the mark of a top notch restaurant. Thank you Catalan for a perfect evening.

We Shall Return!
Great overall experience. Nice menu, good atmosphere. Service attentive but could be a bit more refined to fit the rest of the equation. Nice flavors, healthy portions, great quality for the price. We will return again soon. Not only what we ate was good but the rest of the items going by looked good too!!

A truly Mediterranean dining experience. Very well prepared dishes, very good service. The paella, as well as the bronzino were outstanding dishes. Worth a second visit.

One of the best in Rancho Mirage.
We hosted a small meeting at Catalan Restaurant and the wait staff was amazingly aware of when to disrupt us and when to hold back. The food was superb (I had the trout), the service was very receptive to our needs and the bar provided a perfect bonus to our meeting and meal. All in all, an experience I will repeat and recommend.

Excellent food. It was very nice to meet the chef/owner. Service was not as good. We had to ask for water several time, cocktails/wine took a long time to arrive, and our waiter never returned to the table after taking our order.

One of our favorites! Great patio dining with music. Inside is beautiful too but so nice to sit outside. The food is Spanish with great Spanish wines. Favorite dish is the seared scallops. Chef Drew Davis combines great flavors. Our party had the Jidori Chicken and the skirt steak also.. Also loved their meals.

We liked the ambiance and appreciated the friendliness as soon as we stepped in the door.
The bar area was busy and looked inviting, but we went directly to our table. The hostess and waitress were both very helpful and knowledgeable, and our paella, sangria, and desserts were all excellent and plentiful.
We will gladly return.

Food was great...Four of us had the delicious Veal Skirt Steak, one Scallop entree and one pasta entree. All of us enjoyed everything... We'll be back!!!

Amazing place and it's going to go on our list of favorites! The Catalan Paella for two was better than any we had in Spain. Service was impeccable. Staff was very friendly.

Trying a bit too hard
The chef is sourcing great ingredients and is presenting them in creative imaginative ways. Many of the dishes suffered from maybe one too many ingredients. The gazpacho was an exception, it was perfectly executed.

Beautiful dining experience
Catalan has a wonderful ambience with an original and eclectic menu. The staff is very friendly and attentive and the decor is bright and airy, all combining to create a beautiful dining experience.

food with a flair
chicken liver appetizer was a bit unusual, however the taste and crunchiness was delectable. paella was terrific, with lots of shrimp, mussels, calamari, chicken and sausage. my wife had trout for her entree and it was also delicious and somewhat different with a corn dish with pancetta - excellent! desserts were to die for - rice pudding with pistachios and catalan cream topped off an excellent dinner experience.

Came for restaurant week on May 31, 2013. Got $38.00 special. Fantastic! HUGE portions!!!!!!!! We had the paella and the duck wrapped trout and we have enough food for an whole second meal.

We liked the Thai restaurant that used to be In this building but Catalan is a worthy successor. We loved the food and liked the environment. We also loved the guitar player although we heard nearby patrons complaining that the music was too loud. I guess music is never too loud when you are enjoying it as we were.

Pleasant and tasty
Overall, my partner and I enjoyed dinner at Catalan very much. The bread, pâté, and olives were delicious, as was my blood orange margarita. My gazpacho and his mussels were excellent, although he commented that other restaurants in the desert give you more for your money than Catalan. My scallops were excellent in their unusual vegetable concoction bed. However, my partner found his paella too salty. In all fairness, though, our server graciously offered to have the kitchen provide him with a replacement paella, which he declined to do. My passion fruit sorbet and his custard were appropriate desserts after such a copious meal.

This is an excellent restaurant. Wonderful food and service and a very friendly owner and chef, areal family business. There were lots of regulars which is always a good sign. We were there formthe first time and had their Summer three courseprix fixe menu, a bargain atb$19.95 with smaller than their usual portions....thank goodness. We had more than enough to eat and saw some of the regular portions being served, very generous amounts. We also liked it that the owner was very welcoming for people to come in and have this less expensive menu in the bar at any time. All in all a great experience, can't wait to go back.

So glad to see them back after summer vacation! The best Tapas in town, and a great bar tender. Happy hour rocks!

My New Favorite Restaurant in
I have brought numerous people to Catalan and each and every person has thanked me profusely for introducing them to this wonderful restaurant. The food is simply delicious and the service is outstanding. Their paella is divine.

Have been here twice and were very pleased both times. The last time we went, we were with a Catalan friend who has been looking for a good Catalan restaurant in the US -- without success, until we went here. He was ecstatic. It reminded him of home -- and he is still talking about it two days later.

Another Great Meal
Catalan continues to be a terrific find in the desert. One of our few favorites. Great Spanish/Mediterranean cuisine. The flatbreads are great.

A little bit of Spain in the USA
This is a wonderful place! The service was fantastic, from the hostess (whom I think is the owner) to our waitress Kierstin, to the bus boys. The food was delicious. We ordered the paella which was chock full of seafood -- no skimping like some other places; the whole Branzino which was moist and the ribeye which was grilled just as my husband wanted ("solid pink in the middle"). Save room for dessert, a must! The rice pudding is to die for. I have family who will be visiting the area in January. I will tell them they HAVE TO go to Catalan. Ask for a table in the courtyard

mediterranean: the real thing
the patio has four walls so it's never windy. It got too loud for me because the excellent guitar player used an amplifier (why?!).
so we sat inside but the big door to the patio was open: just right.
not really expensive for it's food and service class.

We took out of town guest here for a Birthday dinner. The food is great, especially the choice of Tapas. My husband had the Paella for one, which was FULL of Seafood! Our guests both had the steak and it was also a hit. I had the diver scallops and they were outstanding.
Wait staff was gracious but not stuffy, and attended to our needs.
The only thing that was a small negative was that the booths seemed to be a tight squeeze, allowing little space between you and the table. We asked to move to a booth that had 2 seated on the bench and 2 seated on the aisle in chairs.
Met the chef as we were leaving who was also a gracious person. We'll certainly be back!

Love this restaurant for the ambiance alone; I feel like I'm in a European village. Wine Wednesday offers a nice selection of half price bottles and the menu offers a well rounded selection of meat, seafood, and vegetarian, and they mark gluten free items with a G. We can't wait to return!

BETTER than anticipated!
Came here for an early birthday celebration. Service and attention were impeccable. Had a pomegranite basil martini whch was very unique, peasantly refreshing and not watered down like most restaurants. The food was REALLY tasty. We had the prix fixe meals. Variety of choices. I had mussels, red snapper and a chocolate molten cake. The mussles and the red snapper were cooked to pefection along with the veggies that accompanied it. Had background music which which provided a nice ambiance.Look forward to gong back on my next trip to Palm Springs!

Well-greeted; knowledgeable waitress, attentive staff got us off on the right foot. Appetizer and cocktails were perfect, and the food that followed was delicious. We shared a scrumptuous custard desert; all top notch. An enjoyable experience it was. Thanks.

Satisfied Four Discerning Diners
We were four diners, seasonal to the desert, who know and love good food. We had a small plate and a side for starters. Our server offered a wine special that was satisfying and a true bargain. Two of us split the arugula and pears at the suggestion of the wait staff when both ordered it. The salad was very good and was a generous dinner salad size when split. We had sword fish, scallops, spaghetti and the vegetable plate. All were very good to excellent. The room was understated with calm décor and the room was quiet enough for good conversation. Though we didn't try it on this trip the bar looked interesting and more lively. We all agreed we'd return.

A bit of Spain in the desert!
Let me say, my partner and I just went to Spain last September, and there were things that I had I couldn't get off my mind. If you've ever been to Spain, Tapas prevail, and the Tapas at Catalan were rivals! The potatas bravas were amazing. Just like I had in a cafe in Barcelona. Crisp, golden and covered in that gorgeous creme and crazy red sauce I can't get out of my mind. We also had light and crispy calamari, croquets and empanadas.
The star of the evening was my partner's lamb encrusted with Mediterranean spice rub on a bed of white beans, kale and Serrano Ham. Wow!
I have to say it was pricey, but worth it.

Maricella was a bubbly and vibrant server. Everyone made us feel welcomed. The octopus dish was so tender and delicious. Also, the prix fixe is such a deal. Great muscles & excellent Paella. When we're in the desert.. this has become our regular place. Nice Spanish guitar while you dine. Overall, great food, service & ambiance.

A memorable Birthday Dinner
Catalan is a wonderful place to eat a delicious meal with friends. The food is wonderful, the staff attentive, and a wine list for very good wines under 25.00 is a great deal. We visited the bar for the first time, and it was busy with most of the bar stools and tables filled. A list of tapas that are very true to the Spanish roots of the restaurant were excellent.
This was our second time at Catalan and we will be back.

This family knows hospitality and the young chef has an obvious gift - as well as a love - for the dishes he creates. Only saw women servers, unusual in a fine dining establishment in the Coachella Valley, but they were personable, helpful, attentive but not too attentive, and attractive ... not in a fashion magazine way but in a real life people way.
My party celebrated a birthday and adored the chocolate lava cake they gave us.
The ambience is lovely - very Spanish with its white walls, floor-to-ceiling windows and interesting decor. (Love to have those lanterns.)
And the guitar music? Divine!

Restaurant week romance
My boyfriend and I were in Palm Springs for a quick getaway mini-vacation, timed to coincide with restaurant week. We separately picked out Catalan as our dining choice, and were not disappointed. We were seated in the inner courtyard, but could still hear the flamenco-playing guitarist. There was a half-price wine menu as well as the prix fixe meal - we were happy! The gazpacho was incredible and we hope to recreate it at home - made with fennel, roasted heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers... soooo good! The chicken jidori was moist; the trout wrapped in bacon with a corn relish was tasty but the bacon was mainly fat and could not be eaten. The passion fruit sorbet and molten chocolate cake in combination for dessert were great.
