I went with two friends and
I went with two friends and the friend who recommended the place said we had to order the luncheon special. So we all did. Including tax and tip it came to $15 per person and there was leftover food. We couldn't eat it all. The food was absolutely amazing and the variety was extensive and wonderful. I will definitely go back!

Wonderfully delicious food!!
Wonderfully delicious food!! Dreamed of going back the next day to try more dishes.

You won't regret this place
The lunch special has got to be one of NYC's best kept secrets. After selecting a meat or vegetarian option, you are served 3 appetizer samples, 3 entrees, rice, and naan. During the meal, you are asked whether you want anything refilled. Absolutely yes! Everything was well seasoned & tasty. To top it off, there's an amazing mango soaked donut hole thing at the end. I can STILL taste it. Incredible.

Great food. I have been to
Great food. I have been to this restaurant a couple of times and ordered delivery food at my apartment many times. The quality of the food is always high and consistent. If you like or want to try Indian food, then you should go to Moti Mahal Delux restaurant.

GREAT food - I am indian,
GREAT food - I am indian, brought my boyfriend and mom. Mind you, my mom is the best indian cook and has a very discerning taste. She loved every single thing we ordered.
Cons: It was really dark in there. I get making the ambiance romantic with mood lighting, but way too dark, couldn't read the menu without pulling over candles from other tables.
4/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
Very good food served on tables
Very good food served on tables too small to accommodate the dishes. Very poor beer and wine selection.
4/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
Food was very good at restaurant.
Food was very good at restaurant. My only concern is the staff doesn't seem well trained. Manager was helpful but waitstaff do not have a good command of English and/or the menu. We will however dine ther again because we hope they will work these things out as times goes on.

It's about time..
Moti Mahal Delux has opened on the UES and is delicious, authentic and reasonably priced. The original Moti Maha Delux is in India with this one being an offshoot. The dishes were outstanding: tiny little samosas that don't resemble grenades; buttery fresh naan bread redolent with garlic and fresh cilantro; shrimp succulent and perfectly cooked in a spicy coconut sauce; I could go on all day. The service by the waitstaff is excellent (water refilled quickly, empty dishes cleared away promptly, all professionally and with a smile) but the maitre 'd and the hostess seemed off. No smile or even eye contact from the maitre D; the hostess, while helpful was frankly curt. I am hoping this was an off day for them as the restaurant was very busy.

Best Indian food in NYC!
Found out about this place while in New Demhi India this past March. Food is better than INDIA'S location! Enough said, best food! Especially the lamb chops!
5/3/2013 4:00:00 PM
Superb food but mediocre otherwise
Arrived on time w reservation for 2 on Wednesday; waited 25 minutes for table; noisy; service OK (just); was more or less pushed out 1 hour from sitting down so the next twosome could be seated (though other earlier groups were still sitting). I'll go back for the food, which is GREAT!, but the rest needs much improvement.
5/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
while a little expensive for indian, we thought it was excellent
5/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
The right place.
Just down the street from my place, I finally decided to make Friday night dinner reservations for my boyfriend and I. It was just the right atmosphere. The waitstaff gives you just enough space--not too pushy--but eases you into a fine dining experience. They even provided assistance when we ordered the Golgappa Shots and had no idea how to eat them--grabbing for our phones in helplessness, the manager silently came over, as if to fill our water glass and quietly gave us instructions, unheeded. It was all intuitive and a completely lovely experience. Go.
5/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
personal service, delish and unique
The wait staff were incredibly attentive and the manager answered our questions regarding the menu and made great suggestions for our meal. The food was great and there were some unique twists on traditional plates like crab masala (also goat brain masala), butter chicken, and a crispy ricotta filled spring roll dipped in spicy tomato sauce. The wine list was great too. Will go again and bring more friends.
5/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
Nothing to complain about here. The staff was exceedingly pleasant, the tandoori chicken was tender and perfectly spiced; the stuffed mushroom skewer was to die for and the lentils were smooth and delicious. We had a lovely table by the window, where we sat and chatted and felt no pressure to leave. I will definitely go again!
5/19/2013 4:00:00 PM
NYC was in dire straits for a good Indian. This one is almost as good as the one in London! Love that King Fisher.
5/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had such a lovely time at Moti Mahal Delux. The food was outstanding ( although some of the dishes were too spicy for certain members of our party), beautifully presented, and reasonably priced.. The service was impeccable- warm and extremly hepful, and our server's blingy flashlight was very useful in reading the menu, which could stand to be a little clearer in its graphics. I am so happy that Moti Mahal is in the hood, and the butter chicken surpassed all expectations,
5/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
Best Indian food
I've eaten indian all over the city and consider myself a good judge. Undoubtably some of the best Indian food in manhattan. Fabulous chicken tikka and chicken Marsala.
5/25/2013 4:00:00 PM
Best IndianRestaurant in NYC
Divine Lamb Chops. Perfectly cooked vegetables. Exquisite flavors. Nice and spicy.
5/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
This 1st Ave. location had 2+ previous Indian kitchens. Moti Mahal finally gives me a reason to eat local.
6/3/2013 4:00:00 PM
We ate here recently and have nothing but good things to say. All of the entrees were well-spiced, incredibly tasty, and reasonably priced. The eggplant was absolutely my favorite. We also tried two appetizers - the samosas and the fried okra -- both good, neither as delicious or interesting as the entrees.
6/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Interesting twist on Indian fare
Moti Mahal Delux is a great choice for Indian on the UES, and a welcome respite if you're needing to spend time at Sloan Kettering or other nearby hospitals.. It's not your usual curry-and-biriani menu, and the flavors were truly interesting. One note--the recently got a wine and beer license, and so it's no longer BYOB, unless you want to pay a corkage fee. To be fair, the one $20 fee covered 2 bottles--don't know if that was intentional or an oversite, but I'm not complaining.
We'll definitely be going back again.
6/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
BEST new Indian in NYC!!!
Food = Exquisite, delicate, perfectly flavored....
Service = welcoming, attentive, impeccable
Price = great value..... All other Indian restaurants in the city should take note!
6/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was amazing. Definitely recommend the Butter Chicken - it was spiced perfectly. My only complaints really relate to service, which wasn't horrible, but could have been improved. They brought our food out piece-mail, which was inconvenient for our group since no one had their full meal (rice, naan, protein) at once. I would really prefer for a meal like this that it be served once everything was ready.
6/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Plans (and reservations) changed at the last minute and I am so glad that they led us to eat here! The food was delicious and the service was great. It upscale but not too pricey. I will definitely eat here again!
6/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Went with two of my girlfriends
Went with two of my girlfriends on a friday night and had a wonderful experience. The garlic naan was awesome. The potato somosas were ok. The tomato soup with amazing. It had some Indian spice to it that I can't explain that made it taste so good! The butter chicken was also great. . Price was reasonable and I highly reccomend it.
7/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Indian food and service
Great Indian food and service in very pleasant surroundings.
7/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
outstanding tandoori dishes
The burrah kabab and anardana murgh tikka were out of this world, as was the lamb saag. The "signature" butter chicken was disappointing - dried chicken pieces in a thin sauce. I will definitely return and try other dishes from their menu. Overall, one of the best north Indian restaurants for the value.
7/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Second visit even better than the first! Tried different items on the menu from last trip in and it was brilliant! BEST INDIAN IN NYC!
7/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
SIMPLY THE BEST INDIAN IN NYC!
SIMPLY THE BEST INDIAN IN NYC!.... PERIOD!
Brought friends from out of town to this place and it was simply perfect....

The Basics: Perfection Personified!
Yes, we went back again (this is turning into a weekly thing). If you are into Indian cuisine you will NEVER tire of this place... I am so glad it is down the block from our home.Tonight we went for a basic staple: Tandoori Chicken.... For a dish with no sauce it was moist and oh so flavorful. Even the bones tasted good! The Garlic Naan was so good I didn't need dip! My girlfriend marveled at how great the steamed white rice was...she mused that she could eat this and nothing else! Yup, that good! Now for the Host and manager: These folks GENUINELY CARE about your visit. They will make you feel right at home and you are safe in their hands if you want them to make ordering recommendations. Everything a restaurant should be.
8/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Food, friendly helpful staff
Just a great dining experience. We had no idea what to order so we asked the owner (I think). Everything he suggested was great and he didn't t recommend the most expensive items on the menu.
8/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
couldn't get in
This restaurant is in our neighborhood but we could never get a table till we reserved with "open table" .
8/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
Spicey and nice
Very good food. Not your typical flavor profiles you find at many Indian restaurants.
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
For about the same prices as other local Indian places, the food here stands out as authentic and super tasty. When large numbers of your fellow diners are native to that subcontinent, you know you're onto the real thing.
8/21/2013 5:00:00 PM
Excellent India Food
After coming back from a month trip to India we were craving Indian food. Moti Mahal did no disappoint! It was very good. In particular, the scallops, pomegranate marinated chicken, naan and kulcha breads and lamb chops. Also we had a fabulous veg dish but can not remember the name. Washed it all down with a Kingfisher and it was like being back - especially with my sweet Lassi for dessert. Highly recommend!

Delicious Indian Food
We were a party of three and split multiple dishes. They were all extremely flavorful, especially the seekh kebab. Though at first glance the portions seemed to be a little small, we ended up having leftovers as we were quite full. The Lobster Masala was de-shelled, but had great taste and I would recommend it. The Saag Paneer had a little kick--probably the most out of all the dishes we ordered--but overall the dishes weren't that spicy. We met the wife of the owner who was a wonderful woman, and took the time to answer a few of our questions about the menu and made some great recommendations like the lamb curry. We will definitely come back here, especially because we live just a few blocks away.
9/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
Im so happy we found this place. My fiancee and I are both indian and miss our home cooking so much. It was very comforting to find a great indian restaurant right in our own neighborhood. The food is excellent! All north indian style. Kebabs, tandoori, chicken makhni. All very well made and spicy. I didnt even need to add anything!!! Lemon rice is to die for and the naan....dont even get me started! One of the best garlic naan's I have ever tried!
A must eat!
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food is delicate, marvelously seasoned in a sophisticated setting yet friendly and unassuming. We usually go for dinner but this time went for brunch and we totally delighted. Though no menu choices and called a buffet, it was waiter service, no hot table and the food was served from the kitchen. Can't wait to go again.
9/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Best Indian in Town!
Sanjep and his staff delivered a wonderfully perfect birthday dinner for my girlfriend. We could not think of a better place to cap off the weekend of festivities... Tonight we tried one of their Lobster specials which was full of great favor... Can't wait for our next meal there!

Yummy from Lentils to Mutton
We had a terrific table, with a view of the street. The service was perfect without being obtrusive. The food is outstanding. I'm a vegetarian and just could not get enough of the spicy lentils. My boyfriend loved the mutton.
10/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good Indian directly from New Delhi
This is a namesake or branch of the Delhi restaurant and has the same dal and a couple of other dishes. very good service and food!
10/11/2013 5:00:00 PM
great food, service slipping
I love indian food and this place by far is the best I have eaten. My only issue is that service is slipping. Used to be outstanding. My last time there we had to constantly wave the server over for service and she basically ignored us otherwise. I will still go there for the food but I hope service improve to the way it was, which was excellent.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
It never fails
Each time I go there I think this time they'll disappoint but every time I go there it exceeds my expectations. The food is creative, the service is professional and the whole experience is one great dining event. Bravo.

Still The best Indian in NY!
Another amazing culinary experience….. We brought some new faces both of whom are now converts… Sanjeep treated us all like royalty! This is really one of the finest restaurants in town…. We have already booked out next reservation.

Very authentic food. Great
Very authentic food. Great for vegetarian diners as well. Delicious
11/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
Excellent food and service
The gem of the restaurant is the Manager, Mr. Malhotra who knows what hospitality business is. He personally takes care of the clients, the service is impeccable and food is excellent. I have by now had dinner at most of the Indian restaurants in New York city. Moti Mahal wins uniformly all the time. Our first visit to Moti Mahal was on the same day New York Times Dinning section covered the review and we have been very regular since then. My daughter who lives in LA calls in advance to make sure we get the reservation and eat there.
11/12/2013 4:00:00 PM
Indian food at its finest
Love MMD! Service is really wonderful, very child friendly. The food is not traditional Indian fare served in the US but rather more authentic dishes. The chicken tikka masala is really special as are the lamb chops. Kids love the biriyani: mild but tasty
11/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
Don't be fooled by the small size and layout of this restaurant. Big things are happening in the kitchen--and it's all quite wonderful. The 3 course lunch special is the best in town. The food and flavors are exceptional and their presentation of the dishes only adds to allure.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great food/Superior Service
The butter chicken was the best I have ever had surpassed only by the incredible attention to our kids during the entire meal. The service was outstanding, worth going simply to be treated the right way and oh by the way, enjoy a great meal!
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
great night with friends/families
Three couples at one table, four teenage boys at another. Excellent food, great conversation, everyone with their own "space." We live nearby and will definitely go back!
