This was an absolutely stellar experience! The food was amazing, fresh, artistic and absolutely delicious! The service was perfect. One of the best Japanese restaurants I've ever visited.

Have been here six times now, the sushi is absolutely fantastic. I would put it in league with any place in NY or LA, Nobu included. Really amazing and right here in Chicago!

Masaki is a hidden gem. Go
Masaki is a hidden gem. Go immediately. With only 22 seats, you'll receive an intimate dining experience within close proximity to the skilled chefs. The sushi is easily the best I have ever had. The chefs ensure that each dish is presented beautifully and flawlessly.

Been to many "foodie" type places and overall have not enjoyed the experience - LOVED this place - most bites were like an explosion of flavor in the mouth - would highly recommend it!!!

Service was first rate and food was incredible. The venue is very small and intimate. Tables a bit crowded together, but as an option, 2 could sit at the sushi bar for a great experience. it is a place good for 2 or 4 people, 6 max, but it is quiet, so a rowdy group could disrupt the atmosphere. Our dinner there had around 5 groups and was very pleasant. We will come back in the future.

Best sushi in Chicago!
Finally, a high quality sushi restaurant in Chicago! This is some of the best sashimi I have ever eaten, not to mention a fantastic presentation. The service was also phenomenal.

Like being in Tokyo - special!
Dining at Masaki was like being transported to Japan. The artistry the chefs take in creating culinary masterpieces almost make the food too beautiful to eat - serving plates and platters are designed to showcase the food. A feast for the eyes for sure - followed by some unique dishes and flavors that I have not experienced at other Japanese restaurants in Chicago. Service is very attentive– even little rests to keep your handbag off the floor. This is a small, intimate restaurant for those that appreciate fine Japanese food. Located on Mies Van Der Rohe close to the MCA and Hancock Tower - the location is terrific and special valet parking rate is a nice amenity. Masaki is a special place - not your average neighborhood sushi joint!

I can't explain in enough detail how amazing this place was in terms of service, quality of food and overall ambiance. We were waited on hand and "purse" since they have those cute stools for your handbag. The host and servers we very attentive, informative about the menu and food as well as eager to please. My husband travels extensively throughout Asia and Japan and found the quality and authenticity of the food to be exactly what he finds and upscale restaurants in Tokyo. We had the 5 Course Meal and were pleased with every dish that was included. Anyone with a high expectation of sushi should try Masaki. You won't be disappointed.

Good, but alot of fluff
As out of town visitors, we were excited to try Masaki. We were a group of 4 sushi lovers. While the food was quite yummy, it felt like we paid for alot of extra fluff on the plate (would have liked a bit more fish!). The atmosphere was lovely. Our server was not very friendly.

Japanese fine dining
Dined at Masaki as we are fans of their "sister" restaurant Pelago. In this first visit, we had the 5 course tasting menu which were actually 10 plates (2 plates a course). The toro and uni sushi was superb, some of the best ever tasted. Included was poached sea bass -very tender, also waygru beef tartar - very tasteful. Presentation was excellent and the accompanied broths and sauces with each dish made the dinner special. We were full by the end of the third course. Since we are not big drinkers, we did not try their saki menu; however, their tea menu was excellent and the preparation at table side was excellent. The restaurant i atmosphere is good and the wait staff attentive without being too intrusive. Overall would dine there again.

Exquisite, Beautiful, Relaxing
Masakii is a rarity these days--intimate, small, comfortable, relaxing. An oasis of hospitality and calm in the madhouse of the Mag Mile. The only downside is dodging irate tourists checking into the adjacent hotel. The preparation and presentation of food is top notch, the service welcoming and helpful, not stuffy and stifling.

Unexpectedly delicious in every regard - from the lavender tones to the velvet cushions - to the incredible plating to the taste sensations - the meal was pure beauty! Exquisite in every detail.

Excellent, inventive Japanese
Masaki is a zen-like Japanese dining experience. Keep in mind, this is not your traditional sushi experience a la Katsu, but it is more of a fine dining adventure. The chef focuses on tasting menus, and is very inventive with his sushi and desserts, especially. You can expect flavorful nigiri, such as uni-stuffed squid and Jalapeno-topped hamachi. The sushi is pre-sauced, and often comes with different Japanese picked vegetables. There is a vegetarian tasting menu, and they seem very good on that side of the coin. Cooked dishes are good, and the sashimi is only okay. The fish is pre-sliced, and let's be frank, the sushi chef and staff are not Japanese so this is far from traditional, but otherwise, it is a great dining experience.

The service is out of the world, in this quiet, intimate, little restaurant. The sushi is delicious, imaginative, and meticulously crafted. Just fare warning, you will leave hungry unless you're prepared to spend an obscene amount of money.

Amazing sushi and the best service
We just moved from San Francisco and found Masaki. This is some of the best sushi we have ever had and I travel all over the country. The service was amazing as well. It was a great night out. We will be going again soon.

Little bit of Tokyo in Chi-Town
All I can say is WoW. From the presentation of the food to the service....everything was exceptional. I do think the alcohol prices were a bit on the high side and honestly needs to be lowered some. The Chefs definitely have the highest of standards and skill for everything was excellent. My wife and I both chose the five course tasting menu and we were both truly stuffed....a first at a sushi restaurant. This was definitely worth the cost.
I will never forget my dining experience at Masaki and would like to bring my mother here some day. My mother is old school Japanese and would very much enjoy this experience.

Outstanding five-course omakase!
This tiny restaurant was recommended by a friend who encouraged us to be adventurous and order the five-course omakase . . . it did not disappoint! A diverse array of fascinating tastes from land and sea, all incredibly fresh and beautifully presented.

Masaki is a fantastic restaurant for those special occasions.

Remarkable meal in Chicago
Masaki stands up to the best kaiseki meal in Japan. It is a little more contemporary than a comparable meal in Japan, but each dish is perfectly composed, combining the finest premium ingredients (more than just fresh) with flavorable but not overwhelming sauces and a beautiful presentation. Everything is of the highest quality, including the ma-cha powdered green tea, but the extreme quality does come at a cost. For special occasions the cost is well worth it.

impeccable sushi;service great
only problem was with water ;not given a choice for tapwater and then charged $9.00 apiece for bottled
the rest of the evening was wonderful

Went here on a friend's recommendation. This is some of the best sushi/japanese food I've had in Chicago - and really anywhere. Did the five course tasting menu (warning: it's a little more than you expect, as ours was more like two contrasting courses each)(which were incredible). My wife and I were blown away - and we do a *lot* of sushi in our house. Phenomenal. Can't wait to go back.

Like eating in Japan
The settings and surroundings felt like an elegant restaurant in Japan. Each dish was beautiful and delicious, satisfying the eye as well as the palate.
Better for small parties, since the booths can feel constricting.

Amazing food, worth the price!
Beautiful, small dining room with mood setting Japanese instrumental music playing. Extremely good service with two people managing my table as a single diner. Had the two-course tasting menu which was a delicious mix of perfectly prepared sushi and small bites, but didn't at all leave hungry. Best sushi I've had since leaving Japan two years ago!

We love sushi, but this was a nice twist - everything just a little different. High quality seafood.

Birthday to remember!
We went to Masaki to celebrate my husbands birthday. From the minute we walked in to the very end of the most amazing meal, we were catered to like we were celebrities! I think this is my favorite restaurant by far!

Japanese food at it finest
This is a very small restaurant which serves very good Japanese food. Its a "first date" restaurant - very quiet, with outstanding food, beautiful decor. The offerings include tasting menus and individual dishes. Included were fried whole shrimp - a new item for me. I ate the body and tried a nibble at the head. It was so good that I continued nibbling until I finished it entirely. The fried lotus was the best I had ever tasted. Dessert included a Tapioca and Passion Fruit Layer cake. The combination of sweet and sour was perfectly balanced and not too rich - a perfect finish to an excellent meal. Prices are about what one would expect. There is a web site which has the menu. Definitely recommend it it that wasn't yet obvious.

Expensive, but special
Masaki could be on a side street in the Ginza. That it's tucked away a few steps from the Mag mile is a treat for Chicagoans!

Excellent food and presentation
Great food and attentive service at a high price but definitely worth it.

Special Japanese Experience
High end 22 seater restaurant goes all out to provide you contemporary presentation of high end seafood through 2 - 3 course tasting menues or an omakase offering. Everything was delicious, even the dessert, which I don't normally consider in a Japanese restaurant. With the small size of the restaurant, you really were able to get 'white glove' service.
