Worth a drive to AA - Sushi
This is worth a drive to Ann Arbor. The sushi was excellent. Much better than I would have expected in a college town. A bit pricey but worth it. Hamachi carpaccio is a really great dish. The Miso soup is large, you could share it. The decor and ambiance is so soothing we could have stayed all night. There is a private room for presentations or groups. I will be sure to return to this place. Almost as good as the top spots in Chicago. Arami, Japonais, Mirai etc. They also have alot of non sushi dishes like steak, pork tenderloin, for non sushi eaters. I will try those dishes next time.

Perfectly cooked food served
Perfectly cooked food served in best atmosphere of any Japanese restaurant in town. Hard to beat that.

We went to Kuroship for the second time recently - and came away happy as the first time. The sitting was comfortable - not a bit crowded as you would expect from most restaurants on Main St. The ambiance was great - quiet and relaxing, the family can have conversations without raising our voices.
I ordered Ribeye, which is an interesting and delicious take on steak. My wife ordered Duck Ramen and she loved it. Kids have sushis and tempura udons, all of which they enjoyed. Edamame appetizer was a crowd pleaser, while we waited for our food.
The whole family had a good outing - so we collectively gave a thumbs-up!

A gem in Ann Arbor! I dined
A gem in Ann Arbor! I dined here while visiting and enjoyed the food, both raw and cooked very much. I just hope the town supports this place, which might be outside the comfort zone of many Midwesterners.

Everything we had was wonderful.
Everything we had was wonderful. It was our second time there and was consistent from our first time. It was a bit pricey, but you get good, fresh ingredients.

Excellent service creative and delicious food! Highly recommended.

Very tasty and great presentation
The food was very tasty. My group had the salmon, sea bass, lamb, and live lobster. They were all excellent. The portion sizes were enough for each person, and they even had edamame before the meal. The food was also presented with exquisite detail and beauty. I would go again.

Great Addition to Ann Arbor Dining
The food was beautiful and delicious. And, we were spoiled by the service. This is a great new addition to the already amazing Ann Arbor dining experience.

Good, reasonably priced sushi
We sat by the window. Service was friendly and fun. Sushi was yummy. You could bring a group here or have a romantic date. Next time, I'm going to request the Salmon on the beach without the sauce. I thought it was too heavy.

Fabulous hot and sour soup.
Fabulous hot and sour soup. It should be a permanent item on the menu. Beautiful food presentation in general, though I was disappointed in my sushi roll.

Great time at Kuroshio, the restaurant was a little cool, but the cheerful smiles of the guest warmed me up. Service was excellent , the manager walked around and make sure guests were having an enjoyable dining experience. The food was very good too, each course was served hot and had just the right seasoning.

Wall waterfall and subdued lighting sets the stage for a relaxed evening. Elegant menu choices both American and Japanese fare to appeal to a wide range of tastes. Chilean sea bass was outstanding and presentation of all dishes beautiful. Nice cocktail list and full bar. Conversation livelier later in the evening. Cappuccino and ice cream / sorbet selection excellent. We will return to sample more from the menu.

Everyone thinks that Pacific Rim is the only place to go for great sushi in Ann Arbor. Not true. Kuroshio has made that clear. This is a great place for nigiri and maki for lunch, but you don't get a sense of the chef's artistry until you go for dinner. Beautiful dishes abound, along with a beautiful setting and attentive service. Try the soft shell crab, any of the specialty rolls, and the tuna starters. Bring money. Enjoy.

We really enjoyed this experience. The food was very good. The waitress was not very experienced. In fact, she did not know what gluten free was, so we struggled a bit. We are hoping they find their stride with time.

This is a great spot for Japanese/Asian fusion food. My husband and I went and had a variety of sushi, which was very well done. The biggest "problem" I see with the restaurant is that it was pretty empty ... on a Saturday night after a game. Unfortunately, it's an undervalued restaurant :-( My biggest suggestion for them would be to break up the space better to facilitate intimate dining. There are too many tables in a single room and, on an empty night, makes it clear that you're the only ones in the restaurant.

Not just for Sushi
We had a very good dining experience at Kuroshio. Each one in our family decided to try the 5 course prix fixe dinner. We found each course to be surprisingly pleasing. To be fair, the meal we had consisted of a soup, tempura appetizer, sable fish, lamb shops and green tea tiramisu. Each serving was delicious and cooked to perfection. We did try one roll and that was also delicious. Overall, it was an excellent choice for our special occasion celebration.

This was our first visit but won't be our last. Food, service and ambience were excellent. Loved the unique (as well as the familiar) sushi. Nice sake selections.

The food was great and the ambiance is modern. Not too hard getting a reservation on a game night tells me that this is a hidden gem. Highly recommended!

first time there, but now
first time there, but now consider it to be one of Ann Arbor's best restaurants. Both food quality and presentation were excellent. Great pick also for groups with Japanese and sushi lovers but who also have those in group who want more western food as well. I'm in the former group, and found the sushi/sashimi to be of the highest quality. Had a Yellowtail (Hamachi) appetizer that was almost too beautifully presented to disturb by eating!

The transformation of this restaurant from the Champion House is amazing. Tables are widely spaced. It is quiet and tranquil. My soup was fabulous. The sushi was average with less than generous fish slices. Service was very good though the server was initially slow getting to our table though the restaurant was not busy. I would go back.

Soft shell crab is a great appetizer! Sushi is outstanding..

I hadn't been in since this place changed to Kuroshio, and I'm sorry I hadn't been in sooner! It was wonderful! Quiet, peaceful place to spend a friday night with friends. The food was great! We ordered the 5 course dinner....for $35. It was wonderful, not too much food and great taste treats.

Ann Arbor's Top Sushi
No, it won't outshine the best of San Francisco or Seattle, but Kuroshio is, hands-down, the most creative Japanese food being served in the Ann Arbor area. We've been here several times, and the food is consistently excellent. Appetizer favorites include soft shell crab with a Shiraz reduction, and melt-in-your-mouth yellowtail (hamachi) carpaccio. I'm partial to the Venice roll (snow crab and yellowtail), but will generally let the sushi bar fill my plate with whatever's freshest or unusual.
Extra points for a choice selection of sake at various price points, decent beer and wine lists, and a tranquil, modern decor. Prices are slightly higher than most other local sit-down sushi places, but in line for the menu's creativity and quality.

The Pretzel Bell Replacement
In the space of the Pretzel Bell of years ago is Kuroshio Restaurant. Forty-five years ago I had a free pitcher of beer on my 21st birthday at the Pretzel Bell. I went back in time to the same place. But, I found Kuroshio. Superb sushi. I tried both the sake and a Hendricks martini. The sake goes better with the dinner and the service was excellent. Visual ambience is serene but auditory insults abound for the senior citizen. I'm going back for more.

Great food, great happy hourservice
This was our first time at the restaurant and we loved it. We ended up eating in the bar area for their excellent happy hour.
I was very impressed with the innovation of the food and alcoholic beverages on the menu and everything tasted as great as the descriptions sounded.
The service was great also. The bartender was very polite, informative and welcoming.
We will be going back soon! It is my new favorite place for sushi and drinks!

My husband and I decided to book an early dinner before hitting the stores. Our waiter was exceptional in his attention to us - and my meal was exceptional, although one of the specialty rolls that my husband ordered was just fair. I would go back there again - try their tuna tartar! Yummmmm
