Freemans is one of the most
Freemans is one of the most charming places in the Lower East Side. The vibe is great and so is the food. It's always packed, so make sure to make a reservation with enough time. The menu includes creative salads, amazing crab and artichoke dip, and solid entrees. Don't miss the sticky toffee cake!

Great dining experience in
Great dining experience in the wine room. Perfect little room for small gatherings. The food was simple and well prepared but if you are expecting anything extra ordinary or fancy this is not the place for that. What it does offer on the flip side is cool, quirky ambiance and good service.

I hadn't been here in a few
I hadn't been here in a few years when a colleague recommended it for a lunch meeting. A great reminder! It was great to introduce it to others in our party as well. The lunch menu is very similar to dinner, just a bit lighter portion wise. I had the soup of the day and the frisee salad and we all enjoyed sharing the warm artichoke dip. Our server was on point and although one of the wines we ordered was out, she quickly made a recommendation for another that was similar. I'm definitely adding this back to the rotation of regular spots for lunch meetings. looking forward to trying more specials!

Brunch is my favourite meal and Freemans was recommended to us for exactly this reason - it did not disappoint. The table shared the artichoke dip, a must have. Other highlights were the skillet eggs (enjoyed by 3 of our party) and the buttermilk pancakes. Service was friendly but unobtrusive and the ambience very chilled which is what you want on a Saturday morning. I would highly recommend Freemans to friends and will definitely be back. A word of warning - not the cheapest brunch in NYC!

The alley approach to cozy Freemans is just as charming, if a bit more gritty. The intimate first floor setting is more fun and festive than the more spacious upstairs space, more appropriate for larger parties like ours--8 for Mother's Day, all bedecked with taxidermy and antlers, well worn wood floors and tables, and The service was casual and efficient; the food was good, but nothing special. Go there for the ambience.

Fun for out-of-towners!
Freeman's location down an alley feels very "New York." once there the atmosphere is great and the food good.

Great Dinner for 6
We went to Freeman's to celebrate our daughter's graduation from Parsons. She had been here before and it was her choice. We covered an age range from 22 to 88 and everyone loved it. The grilled trout was a standout, and the dark chocolate cinnamon ice cream was our favorite dessert.

THEY DONT ACCEPT OPEN TABLE
Although I had a great dining experience at Freeman's, upon arriving having I assumed i had a reservation as I had made one through Open Table and received a confirmation i was informed that they don't actually use open table and that in the future i needed to call the restaurant directly. I was a bit panicked as I had a party of 8 but fortunately it was not very busy and they were able to accommodate us.
The food, ambiance and service was great but they should really not be listed on Open Table if they will not accept the reservation.

An off the beaten path gem. It presents a warren of rooms and eclectic decor. With the number of dinnig roons, medium sized to small, Freemans has a very personal feel. The service is attentive without being intrusive and is provided by a charming and congenial staff. The menu is diverse enough to offer a selection of any taste with specials rounding it out. The food is both creative and delicious. Another plus, the prices are reasonable. Freemans is a restaurant with a very different feel - a real find.

Private Dining Room Experience Gr8!
I had a party of 10 for brunch, and Freeman's made it so easy to hold the event in a private dining room at no extra charge. We had to order from the prix fixe menu at that point but there were plenty of options. The ambience was great for people to talk. I would definitely plan a large brunch here again. The staff was great!

Went with a group of six and we had a great, private table on the top floor. Food was good and the service was just ok.

The food was excellent as always !! The service was a little pushy towards the end. We did feel like we were being rushed out which is never nice. I do understand that we were the first people in on a Friday night which is a busy evening, but there was no need for the hovering around before the end.
This aside the service was very good, very efficient and thoughtful.

Great spot to take you away
The alley entrance sets you up for a different kind of experience. You start to shed the outside as you walk past galleries and come upon the restaurant at the end. We went very early so that really helps with the experience especially if you don't swing young. By the time we left, the place was jumping. A beautiful interior with lots of nooks for some privacy.

I was just in NY for a week from Australia & Freemans was recommended to me by a friend. We loved the whole experience, the ambience, the food, the noise, the taxidermy! Staff were friendly & knowledgeable. Would definitely return & recommend to others.

The ambiance of this place
The ambiance of this place is amazing.
The food is simple and delicious, not pretencious at all. They have large table if you are going on a big group or smaller ones if you prefer a more romantic dinner. We went there wis some friends that were visiting town and they absolutely love the place. It was a wonderfull dinner.

Fantastic Food & Ambiance
One of my favourite restaurants in NYC....I am obsessed with the artichoke dip and devils or horseback. The steak is a winner too...always consistently good and a great place for groups and couples alike. I love it.

Awesome Food, Great Atmostphere
Cute gem tucked away off the busy streets, the house set up is adorable and makes you feel like you aren't in NYC anymore. The Spinach Dip was delicious. Came for brunch - everyone enjoyed their meals and cocktails. I personally had the pumpkin pancakes and they were great. Would definitely go back for dinner or brunch again.

One of my friends brought me here on a recent trip to New York and I do not regret it at all! Food was exquisite: I will return for sure!

Worth repeat visits
Freeman's is a regular spot if I'm having a lunch meeting with a group of 4 or more. The appetizers are great as well as the variety of entrees. Plus they even offer a breakfast martini! I had the omelette as my entree and it was surprisingly not well seasoned, but everything else was delicious.

Perfect fall atmosphere
Brought my wife for her birthday and had a wonderful meal and a great time. Devil on horseback is a must have.

A sure thing
I have been to Freeman's at least a dozen times. Each time was consistent in cocktails, food and service. A great neighborhood place to gather and catch up with friends.

Loved this restaurant!
My husband and I visited this restaurant on a friend's recommendation while we were on holiday in New York. We were staying in Midtown but it was well worth the journey down to the Lower East side. It was a lovely cosy restaurant decorated in the style of a hunter's lodge. Our waitress was lovely - really friendly and helpful.the food was excellent - my fillet steak with caramelised onions and horseradish mash was possibly the best steak I've ever had! The cocktails were great too. Will definitely be going back if we're ever in New York again!
