I took my boyfriend for his
I took my boyfriend for his birthday to Twisted Tail. I wasnt sure if he would like it being its a scene I recently exposed him to. But I'm happy to say it was the first time we were both there and we LOVED it. The whole atmosphere & live music was GREAT and I wish I remembered our server, but she was a gem and very knowledgeable of the drinks & menu. So I recommend this spot to anyone who enjoys good food, great atmosphere & good drinks...KUDOS

Enjoyed the energy and atmosphere.
Enjoyed the energy and atmosphere. Appetizers and dessert were tasty and intriguing, entrees were standard fare. Drink menu extensive.

Great blues bar
I made a reservation for two because I wanted a good spot by the stage. I got a couple of calls from the waiters asking me if I was still showing up. I think they were very thoughtful. I was disappointed when I got there: we were assigned seats at the back with no view to the stage. I eventually managed to find two good seats near the stage and was able to enjoy Lisa Chavous show. Excellent blues bar, the food, drink and service are great. I'll definitely go back there.

Loved the drinks! Terrific
Loved the drinks! Terrific selection of bourbons and whiskeys, but the food was just so-so. Some of us LOVED our choices(burgers, trout, veal) and some were very disappointed (most apps and extremely bland salads). Would probably give it a second chance.

My girlfriend and I stopped
My girlfriend and I stopped in here a few weeks ago. This place is great fun. We had live music playing right next to us the whole meal, and the offered some great drink specials, a favorite being the one bourbon, one scotch and one beer special. The food was really high quality as well. I didnt expect food that good to come out of the kitchen. It took us back to North Carolina a little bit through nostalgia so it was pretty fun. We will definitely be back again.

We had an outstanding time at The Twisted Tail. We had a large party of 10 and what was appreciated the hostess called the day before and day of our dinner to let me know what we should expect. Our menu was excellent! LOVED the chicken in a bag! Kudos to our AWESOME waiter Connor! He was very helpful in navigating the menu and new items. Everything tasted delicious. Everyone agreed that the restaurant was one that we would go back to without hesitation. We had a wonderful time and were sad that we had to miss the live music. Our girlfriend was celebrating her 25th anniversary in our organization and she felt very celebrated at the restaurant. Thank you for great service, great food, and a great experience!!!

The only negative from our
The only negative from our experience at Twisted Tail was the server. The gentleman was very laxed, was not on top of drink refills, nor checking on our meals. When he was told our party did a pre fix menu, we felt he did bare minimum service to accomodate.
The meal was delicious!! Terrific drink selection!!
The lighting in the restaurant was great, noise level was low enough for our party to hold discussion!
I would definitely go back!

Great Food / Great Staff
From greeter to server, the service and food were excellent. Will definitely go back again.

I would highly recommend the Twisted Tail to anyone who likes great Blues music, great food and a wonderful atmosphere.

thank you to the management for accomadating our large group saturday night!!!

I took my 91 year old mom
I took my 91 year old mom out for Mother's Day, Although Twisted Tail did not have the Barbeque ribs listened on the menu, the Capon dish was delicious. As was the Fried Chicken in a Bag that my son ordered (large meaty pieces) and the Crawfish Mac & Cheese.
I would recommend this spot for the whole family but if you are bringing senior relatives, like 91 year old moms, don't forget the earplugs when the music is playing. It's a little loud, which I guess a Blues Joint should be.
Overall, good food, good music, good times!!!

Superb food, great drinks...
We both enjoyed our entrees. Highly recommend the veal. Beignets were a great way to end this meal; enough to share with 2 or 3 people. A great find for two foodies! Must check out upstairs bar and music after dinner! Food, drinks, music, and dancing...a wonderful night out in Philly!

Twisted Tail was awesome!
Great atmostphere, cool wallpaper, awesome band (we saw Popa Chubby), great service, and amazing food. My parents had come up to visit me in Philly, and I found this place online searching for somewhere to go on a Saturday night. We paid $15 in advance to see Popa Chubby and then made our reservations at 7:30. The wait staff was always there to refill your water and ask you if you want more drinks. I love the bourbon and scotch choices. I got the one bourbon, one scotch, one beer option for $15 and it was awesome! The only problem I had was the Prix-Fixed menu. We aren't the type of people that like to get an appetizer, entree, AND dessert. We like to share an appetizer, and dessert. Overall, it was a great place and I will be back!

Fun, Food, and Rock and Roll
Southern style cooking done well. Service attentive with a smile. Lots of live music downstairs and upstairs, but a little too loud. A jovial crowd of 20 and 30 somethings with a few oldies like us included. A fun and tasty night!

Worth a visit!!!
We found this place by accident on a day trip and visited it for a drink. We were so impressed with it that we planned an overnight trip so we could come down and experience the food and music. NY to Philadelphia was worth was worth every mile we drove. We sampled several of their bar creations all were unique and tasty. We sampled several things from their menu and we were not disappointed. Their charcoal grill appetizers for all wonderfully presented and simply delicious. Our entrees were nothing less than spectacular. to listen to live jam session goin to listen to live jam session going on. The bottom line is that we love this place and intend on coming back just for The Tail.

We love this place for having
We love this place for having good live blues 7 nights a week. On top of that the good is quite good, I would only ask for a bit more spice in the green beam casserole and really wish they'd bring the collards back to the menu. Would also like to see a spicy Cajun fish dish and pecan pie and/or bread pudding for dessert. The drinks are great, I love the Sazerac, so hard to find up north and done so well by the Tail.
6/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
great food and service
My husband and I chose Twisted Tail based on reviews and its proximity to a comedy club we were going to afterwards. Our waiterwas awesome, very attentive and knowledgeable yet not overbearing. We went on a Friday night with reservations and we were seated right away -there was a good crowd, but it wasn't packed. Many walk-ins went to eat at the bar. The roasted corn was amazing, buttery and warm with lime to take away the smokiness. I had scallops on a bed of baked beans (the beans were blackeyed peas) and I loved the dish. Overall great experience - we will be back and stay for the music next time.

What a treat! Unique cuisine, bend-over-backwards
service, and cozy venue. Very enjoyable and will go
back. Loved it.
6/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
THIS WAS OUR FIRST VISIT HERE AND THE FOOD WAS GREAT! OUR SERVER, "ANTHONY" WAS AS WELL! HE WAS VERY FRIENDLY AND KNOWLEDGABLE OF THE MENU AND DRINKS. "TWISTED TAIL" IS THE PERFECT PLACE FOR SPECIALTY DRINKS AND LATE NITE DININIG AROUND SOUTH STREET. WORTH THE EXPERIENCE AND WE'LL BE RETURNING SOON...
6/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Notable Bourbon List
Excellent food, excellent service. The waiter knew exactly what to recommend to drink and the food was excellent. Also they have live music every night which is hard to come by in Philly. This is a great restaurant to go especially for locals in the tourist heavy South Street area of the city.
7/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
New local spot
Read some of the other reviews and we decided to try this spot, loved it! Great location in a great area. Enjoyed the food and the service was great. Definitely will be going back.
7/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good food but we had to wait for it
The food was great and our waiter was attentive, but it took forever for our entrees to come out of the kitchen. They did bring us an extra appetizer and side dish acknowledging the wait, but not sure what the hold up was. We weren't in a rush so didn't mind. But this may not be a great place to go if you have plans after dinner. All in all, despite the wait we had a great experience and would go back.
7/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
A great hang out spot!
The twisted tail is a very vibrant and energetic spot. The food was very tasty, (especially the crab cakes & shrimp with grits), but I think the portions sizes were a little on the small size. However, overall - the food was really good. The featured artist made the experience exciting as well because he actually took the time to interact with the audience during intermission. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a down-home, southern juke joint experience.

Surprise twist to my evening
I went to the Twisted Tail and found myself pleasantly surprised by the great atmosphere, friendly staff, and excellent food. We had a great time!
8/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
We took our friend for a birthday dinner and were happily surprised by the quality of the food - interesting combinations and well prepared. We chose Twisted Tail because it also had music but didn't realize we needed reservations for the upstairs venue. It was standing room only so we sat downstairs and heard the music emanating through the floorboards. A shout out to our waitress Ali, who after the meal shared it was her first night as a server - she was terrific.

To have gourmet food and fabulous
To have gourmet food and fabulous jazz at the same time in a happening area of Philly is truly a find. The dishes were highly inventive and paired well with the extensive bourbon menu and artisanal cocktails. And what a cheese selection! The owner, George, was very warm and welcoming, even remembering us from our visit a year ago when we visited Philadelphia on our vacation. We now considering this our place in this wonderful city.
8/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
Saturday was my 2nd visit to the Twisted Tail, and again I brought along 2 friends. new to the place, along with my wife and cousin. Once again the food was great and the service excellent. The pork belly was delicious, My shrimp and grits were just like New Orleans. The 5 of us enjoyed great cocktails and some strong beers, YUMMY. Highly recommend. Hopefully next time I will get upstairs for some live blues.

Live music and Dinner
This is a great spot to catch live music and a bite to eat. The musician was great. It was a bit loud even seated one room away, but if you're not going for the romantic/quiet scene, it's fabulous! Food was pretty tasty too and beer list is extensive. Would recommend!
9/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Southern Flair
The food was delicious and seasoned to perfection! The mac and cheese with crawfish was delicious. The spare ribs were juicy and tender and it was so much fun eating the southern fried chicken in the paper bag. The portions were quite generous too. Before dinner, we were given popcorn that had a hickory bacon flavor which was very tasty.
Our waiter, Joe was outstanding! I have to say that when we asked questions about the meal, the way he described what we were about to eat made your mouth water. Also, as soon as he described the cocktail I wanted to order, I had to have it!
I enjoyed the live music and the ambiance which made it so relaxing as we enjoyed our meal. I would definitely go again and recommend to my friends.
9/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Hostess greeted us with a smile, and explained what the deal with restaurant week was. Also, she put us at a bigger table, instead of shoving us into a 2 person small table. Big plus!. I had a drunkin' pumpkin drink, and my husband had a victory golden monkey to start. Howard, was really great at taking care of our needs and had a great sense of humor. Very knowledgeable about the food, and helped me decide my meal for the night. I really enjoyed the mussels, which had andouille sausages, basil, and tomatoes. I can honestly say, I probably would have licked all of my plates, but my better judgement said not to. We will definitely be back again, and especially to hear the blues, which Howard had told us about, and gave us a flyer for.
9/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Went for Restaurant Week but learned they have a 3 course pre-fixxe from 5-7 everyday! Restaurant week offered a 4 course (while most other restaurant provided the standard 3 course). Everything was FANTASTIC....the 4th course was a charbroiled selected. The pork belly, mussels, shirt steak and dessert (panna catta with pineapple) was all amazing! Service was great too! First time there and will definitely go back again when in Philly!
9/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Wife and friends really enjoyed the whole vibe! Story behind the place at which i didn't know at the time of me making reservations is it turned out to be the same place my wife took me for my first birthday ,first date it was uno's then. Perfect felt like fate! :-)
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Yummy food, moderate service
We went for restaurant week, late on a Friday night. We requested an outdoor seat bc it was a gorgeous night out. They very kindly obliged, we went to the bar to wait. We went over, were handed a menu, then the bar tender never came back.
Our waiter was super nice and super apologetic of any wait we were experiencing; it was a gorgeous night outside, we really didn't mind a slower paced dinner. He brought us more bags of awesome bacon rosemary popcorn, our food was AWESOME. So much food for $35!!!
I was also disappointed that none of the waiters stopped the girls behind us from smoking At their tables outside
Would definitely com back!

Went for restaurant week on
Went for restaurant week on a Wednesday night. A live duo was playing blues and lots of people at the bar were dancing, which made the experience a lot of fun. Our server, Connor, I believe, was sweet, knowledgeable and attentive. My only complaint is that the food, while good, is not great. They just need to step up their game a little in that department. Some things were a bit raw that shouldn't have been. But, that said, I'd definitely go back and try other menu items and enjoy the lively atmosphere. All in all, it was a great time.

Restaurant Week 2013
My significant other and I decided to dine here for this year's restaurant week, and I am happy to say we were not disappointed. The food selection was delicious, clearly freshly made and perfectly filling in portion sizes. We were able to get a growler of our favorite draft that is not readily available in the area. The live music was a little dulled by the surrounding conversations, but an overall pleasant addition to the ambiance. We will definitely be returning to this great spot again!

Great place for a foodie
The menu in this place is full of great southern food with a modern twist. It is a must try, specially the charcoal menu. Great small meals with a whole lot of flavor. You must try for yourself. It also has a great music (blues) scene.

A Little Bit o'Southern in Philadel
Four days before going to South Carolina, we celebrated a birthday at Twisted Tail. Best southern food I had that whole week!. Unfortunately we were there during a business networking event, and seated right next to the bar, so the chatter was a bit loud. But the food and service were very good! The Chicken in a bag is outstanding, as is the shrimp and grits.
10/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Alot of choices of beer and other drinks. Great service. High qualility food. Expensive overall but they did have a drink special. The place looked great and I liked the vibe. I did not see a band when i was there. I will be going again. I'd definitly bring a date here.
10/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
I've been to Twisted Tail a few times, but had not in the past 6 months or so. This past Saturday night I took some good friends out for their birthday, and we had a great time. The friendliness of the staff and the amazing drink menu(apple sidecar?yum!) completed the cool interior with great live music. I don't know if the vibe is not common to Philly or what it is, but this place always has availability and the food is really solid. I didn't love what I ordered(scallops) but they were good. The fried chicken was amazing as were the million appetizers we ordered to share. Again, the drinks and bourbon list is awesome as was the live blue band. Having spend a lot of time in New Orleans I appreciate this little spot!
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
fun night at the tail!
Great beer and bourbon offerings, enjoyed our server Anthony, and awesome music by the Deb Callahan Band!
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
Enjoyed the dinner
Since this was our first time there, we opted for the $35 - 4 course price fixe to try different selections. The crab cakes, balsamic portobellos, and the crawfish mac and cheese was very good. The grilled oysters lacked flavor and were more like steamed. The chicken in the bag with the fried sweet potatoes sticks was delicious. I loved the shrimp and grits, but be prepared for the shrimp heads to be intact. The beignet dessert was delicious. The beer and spirit selections are huge. They even had Crispin - gluten free beer. The bar, where the bands play, is upstairs and was packed, but we managed to get a beer in a short time. We liked the food and music and will be returning soon.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
The service was excellent.
The service was excellent. I thought they were very attentive and the chef came down to check on the food. The fish dish could have used some light sauce or olive oil. That is my only objection.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
The food is very good although
The food is very good although the menu could use some more healthy veggie/fish options. The best part is live blues while you eat. If only the start time was earlier! The past 9 pm start makes it difficult for us aging folks.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
Imaginative Not Crazy
The brussel sprout appetizer was as good as any ever. Various grilled sea-food was (octopus) smashing and (clams) fine.
There was creativity all over the menu without ever tipping into weird for novelty's sake. Definitely worth further exploration.
11/26/2013 4:00:00 PM
I can only comment on the special Thanksgiving menu which was wonderful. There was a selection of meat or fish, accompanied by delicious side dishes of garlic mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, barbecued beans, stuffing, and brussel spouts. The dished were very favorable and interestingly prepared. The music in the background was wonderful Blues and Jazz. The staff's warm behavior made for a festive occasion.
11/27/2013 4:00:00 PM
This is the first time we decided to go out to eat for Thanksgiving. I saw Channel 6 Action News spotlight your restaurant and decided to give it a try. Family of 4..was a wonderful experience. We ordered the prime rib, turkey and ham as the main entrees. Everything was wonderful. If I had to critique one thing. The turkey portion was very small compared to the ham and prime rib portion. However, everything was very tasty and we will definitely be back and tell our friends. Thank you!

Dilish Dish Of Tail
Upon our arrival at The Twisted Tail for our mid-day Thanksgiving meal , we were greeted immediately by the owner. The staff was bubbly, efficient , and prompt without being annoying. The Tail boasts a relaxed and casual atmosphere that lends well to one's leisurely enjoying the abundant "sides" that came with the turkey and salmon that we ordered. The pumpkin pie was a bit too sweet for my liking. However, we have already decided that The Twisted Tail will be our next Holiday destination.

Very Good Food, But OK Ambience
I visited for the first time with my family for Thaksgiving dinner. They had a holiday prix fixe menu, but the food was good enough that I'd like to come again and try the regular menu. Turkey perfectly cooked, delicious glazed ham, moist prime rib. And the brussel sprouts, garlic mashed potatoes, and honey yams were wonderful. We didn't care for the cornbread stuffing and the baked beans just didn't seem to fit with a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. And we found it surprising that no bread was served with the meal. The atmosphere was more that of a bar than a retaurant - very dark with the actual bar as the focal point. But all in all, we'd come again!
11/27/2013 4:00:00 PM
This place is just what you need!
Not only did the twisted tail have the best prices in town for Thanksgiving, they served a delicious meal! The service was super ideal and the food was exactly what we wanted. The southern themed plates were exactly what we needed, two southern girls in the north for the biggest foodie holiday! We were able to eat mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cornbread stuffing, to die for brussel sprouts, and baked beans that I wish would have been Mac and cheese. (The beans weren't horrible, they just were a tad too spicy!) To top it off, the owner hailed us a cab and held the door! What a classy touch! All in all, this restaurant is what you need in life! Thanks for making this a memorable holiday!!

Twisted Tail Review
The wife and I went here for our anniversary Saturday night and we were both highly impressed by the service and food selection.
I would recommend the the food pairing menu. It had excellent options and they did skimp out on the portion sizes.
Their signature drinks were awesome and they had a very good beer selection.
