Wonderful setting! Maine
Wonderful setting! Maine lobster rolls were not up to par. Too many French fries. Bread baked in flower pot was warm and delicious! Check cover very special. Plates on other tables looked more interesting.

Overall, we had a great experience.
Overall, we had a great experience. I ate some of the best scallops that I have ever had, and the mushroom polenta side was outstanding. However as always, in any meal out, there was some things that could have been better. My veggies, ramps or spring garlic, and potatoes were so salty! And the drinks were pretty weak. To make up for it a little bit, the dessert choice of almond bread pudding with ice cream was pretty darn amazing. I would def go back sometime.

This is one of my favorites
This is one of my favorites for sunday brunch. The menu doesn't change too often but I don't mind. It's hidden away in the store which leads to an interesting scene. Do make reservations as it fills up quickly.

Terrain was amazing. The food
Terrain was amazing. The food was terrific as was the location and ambiance. Our waiter was the best. I can't say enough good things...wish I lived closer because I would be there frequently...but it's well worth the hour and a half drive! I felt like I had a little vacation....

The garden atmosphere was
The garden atmosphere was delightful, but a little on the noisy side. N addition to the very fresh, amazing food, the service was genuinely thoughtful . We will definitely go back!

Consistently very good now
Consistently very good now for over a year. We brought our own wine and the corkage fee was very reasonable ($15). Can't wait for the weather to get better so we can eat outside!

Loved the Scallops - perfectly
Loved the Scallops - perfectly fresh, perfectly cooked with a brown glaze and tender, moist inside. Also enjoyed the Beet Salad. The wait-staff is right-on with wine recommendations and seeing to it that you have what your heart desires from the menu. I wanted to try the sweet potato hash, and was given a portion as a side to my main dish - really appreciated! The bread in a pot was fresh-baked, with a perfect crumb. The table setting inside this stunning garden shop was serene. I felt like we were at a private terrace in a lovely forest bower. We will go again!

This is a GREAT spot for brunch or lunch. It is in a high end garden store and you feel like you are outside somewhere in CA. The food is outstanding. The service is fantastic. Even my foodie husband loved it. Bring your girlfriends and stay to make a terrarium in the garden store!

True neighborhood gem
Loved it! Excellent food, great ambiance of flowers and rustic items both outdoors and indoors. Highly recommended for casual and romantic occasions.

A little Gem inside and out
This is a delightful dining experience--inside or outdoors. The casual atmosphere features decor that is charming, the food is fabulous and the service was attentive but not over zealous. Go early and shop/browse the unique boutique environment outside the cafe. Be sure to try the wonderful bread and salted butter that comes with the meal. SO worth the calories. I highly recommend it.

We went early for dinner on
We went early for dinner on a Saturday so there were only a few couples. Our neighbors told us to come here and the food was very good, better than expected.
5/17/2013 4:00:00 PM
I took my parents here for a belated Mother's Day Brunch. We each enjoyed our meals immensely, all of which were the perfect amount of food. When we asked our gracious waiter about the origins of the Salmon, he was happy to inform us that it was wild caught, along with all of their other fish, and that they even have fresh delivery on Sundays. All of this, and locally sourced ingredients...Bravo!
The only thing we missed out on was the wine list. If my mother had known this was an option, she would have loved to order a glass to accompany her meal.
All in all, a very welcome edition to the area, and it's great fun to take a walk around the shop post-brunch. We will certainly be back.

Magical Dining experience
How fun to dine amongst the plants, eating warm, fluffy, delicious bread baked in a clay garden pot and having your dramatic and tasty meal served to you on a wood board.

Terrain: A Place for All Seasons
It is always a treat to go to Terrain. The coffee and cappuccinos are great, wonderful teas and a great assortment of baked goods at the counter. The restaurant menu changes seasonally and, while I enjoyed the summer menu, the brunch offerings on the winter menu are a better selection. The summer menu leans more heavily toward 'lunch' offerings...sandwiches, salad and burgers. It was too hot to sit outside, even at 10:30 AM, this past Sunday but the inside is temperature controlled and very comfortable. If you haven't been, please, add it to your list of places to go!

Good food , fun atmosphere
Its not every day that you can enjoy good food and ambiance while sitting inside a retail store. This is a good find and fun too!!

Dining in the Ferns
Lovely friendly restaurant nestled in the tree-size ferns, part of upscale garden center/ shop. Very accomodating to patron menu requests (vegetarian, no nuts etc), as well as serving impressive (large!) gourmet hamburgers and choice seafood dishes, wonderfully prepared and creatively served. The food and service were excellent. Good for pre-theater dining.

Great place to eat indoors
Great place to eat indoors or outdoors! On a beautiful day, eat outside!!! Food is very tasty and presented well. The bread comes in a small terracotta pot, what fun! I love the linen napkins ;)

Earlier reviews on Open Table were mixed. Not sure what restaurant they were in. I can say without reservation, by our experience this evening, we had a great meal. Service was great - the food presentation wonderful. All in all, a very nice dinning experience. Scallops were great and the Filet cooked just right for a medium rare treat. Would go again.

Quirky and Sophisticated
The lovely staff at Terrain is always a standout, as is the decor and beautiful plants. This was out first dinner after many lunches, and it did not disappoint. Creative and yummy cocktails, heirloom salad was refreshing and uncomplicated as it should be and the roasted trout was amazing. We all ate every bite.
7/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
I have been meaning to get to Terrain since it opened and finally did. It was worth the wait! Food was delicious, service was attentive and you can't beat the venue. I love the store, and having this lovely cafe and outdoor patio makes for the perfect "girls place". That said, I would definitely come here with my husband or another couple. Very nice experience overall - Terrain is a great asset for Westport!

Best Lunch w/ Friends
Always love an excuse to browse the beautiful shop waiting for lunch... friendly and handsome waiter happily accommodated some menu substitutes... an overall excellent lunch.

My wife and I hadn't been to Terrain for a couple of months and boy were we surprised. We thought the food was very good the last few times that we ate at Terrain but it became immediately apparent that they jumped to a new level. The food was outstanding in every way. The ingredients were fresh and beautifully presented. The new chef (from the Terrain in Philly) takes some risks that are rewarded. Terrain is a great spot to eat outdoors during the nice weather. Don't miss it!
7/26/2013 5:00:00 PM
What a pleasant experience I had when I was there for dinner. The garden cafe is in a beautiful plant themed space. The menu and food is very creative. I loved everything I had, would recommend the Heirloom salad (loved the grapefruit sorbet, nice touch!), definitely will have the scallops again and the lemon pudding was heavenly. The service was very attentive and knowledgeable about the food and how things are prepared. Impressive! I can't wait to go back again.

I'm not going to tell you how great it is. Then I won't get a table.
I relied on Open Table to find me a brunch table last minute this past Sunday. This place is within a stunning home store in Westport on the Post Road. I don't think many know about it yet, but wow, this place is spectacular. Fabulous ambiance, inventive menu, & exceptional service. And it's OUTDOORS among plants, herbs, and twinkle lights. We had bloodys and mimosas, and they brought out FRESH BAKED BREAD baked in a terra cotta pot, served with a honey pepper butter. So creative! I had perfectly poached eggs over a brisket hash topped with a smoked tomato hollandaise; not enough sauce for me, but the whole dish was so flavorful, I didn't miss it! This place is a winner!

More than ladies lunch!
Even a couple of guys enjoyed the nursery/garden setting. A little pricy vs. comparable restaurants in the area. the guys might be a little hungry when they left. but I saw a scrumptious looking shortcake and fruit dessert going to them!
8/6/2013 5:00:00 PM
Very dangerous - in a good way
The restaurant is great. We had lunch there with my Brothers family and it was perfect. The Shop is the dangerous part. They have so much good stuff you could easily spend a small fortune.

Perfect setting for delicious meal
Terrain Garden Cafe has is right. The ambiance is comfortable, the food is fresh, the service is just right. A favorite place of mine for lunch with a friend.

The staff and food were wonderful. I had a delightful meal and visit with my friend.

Good food, odd setting
The setting in the garden store strikes me as just plain odd. However the food was well done, with interesting combinations an contrasts.

Dinner was great. Food is local organic and tasty. Waiter knew all details of food prep and was phenomenal.
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Service was excellent. Scallop
Service was excellent. Scallop risotto suggested by our waiter was delicious. My husband had the burger which they made specially for him because the regular burger is not offered on the brunch menu.

Great gnocchi! Tasteless sauce!
Had a lovely plate of gnocchi at lunch. Very light and well prepared in a lovely light sauce, however, the accompanying sauce, kohlrabi, was tasteless.

Very interesting concept restaurant
Just try it. Hard to explain. It's like dining at an archeology museum with the lights dimmed.

Unexpected find in a store
Terrain Café is part of their store, but you would never really know. The owners have managed to keep the restaurant pretty separate from the store with its unique ambiance. We tried this place last Spring during restaurant week and have been back several times.
After a great meal and I ordered peppermint tea. When I asked what was the brand of tea they used, the waitress not only told me, she showed me the box because it is unique and gave me two to take home. As I non-coffee drinker, I will be heading back to buy some.
Would highly recommend, but would recommend anytime after 7. While kid friendly, I prefer a quieter more relaxing dinner.

An oasis on Post Road
Have had several lovely lunches at Terrain, but this was the first time dining outside. True, it is a retail environment, but feels more like a hidden garden--a perfect escape on an early Fall afternoon. The Stonington scallops were delicious, and the service was top notch.

My husband and I discovered
My husband and I discovered Terrain during Restaurant Week earlier this year. While the restaurant is on a very busy street, Rte 1, you feel as if you walked into a completely different world. It's atmosphere is very serene and the food is outstanding. We go back often and I recently told my husband that maybe we should branch out and try some other restaurants. However, it is hard. Whenever we try a new place, I'm constantly comparing it to the food at Terrain. I'm not a dessert person, but the desserts are worth trying.
In addition to the food, the service is amazing. Our waitress was kind and attentive even though she was handling many other tables.

Brunch for plant lovers
fabulous food indoors or out, at a cafe in the best garden boutique ever! Very pleasant service, helpful and efficient. Amazing bread, served (baked?) in a flower pot, great omelette. Excellent tea selection, especially the Oolong. Wandering through the store before or after is like being in an art gallery but with plants. Really fun! Very hard to get out of there without buying something, so be warned.! Great for lunch and tea time. I haven't tried dinner yet, but hear from friends it's just as good.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
The most wonderful service and food in a creative and stunning atmosphere. Especially loved the roasted mushroom soup and bread in a plant pot. But everything had layers of flavor and thoughtful attention to detail. Memorable!

organic and natural experience
Great lunch while taking in the beauty and creativity of the surrounding store. Inspiring, simple, and natural.

Another incredible experience here!
Food was incredible! The server/waiter was what you expect at a nice restaurant; professional. Bus boy was a bit sloppy on a few occasions (filled my glass that had Sprite in it with water, and dropped a fork on my friend at the table), but it wasn't a big deal. The place was busy, so the service was on the slower side- but not to the point of it affecting our overall review.
This place, unlike some of my other favorite places in town, is consistently good! The chef only would do the tasting menu if the entire table ordered it, but I'm fine with that.
Molasses infused butter, the soup of the day (butternut squash), the beet appetizer, duck, pasta and short rib were all worthy of me taking the time to write this review. Bravo!
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
I love the garden setting of the cafe, as well as their delicious farm to table cuisine! A real gem!

We were stuck in traffic between NY and Boston, pulled over and consulted Open Table for a dinner suggestion.
What a fabulous dining experience. Multiple kind greetings, great atmosphere, wonderful, fresh food and terrific service.

Fun place to enjoy with friends
Had to introduce this spot to a friend who loves artsy, loves flowers, loves gardens and loves a good find! The minute I discovered Terrain I knew I had to go back with her, just to see her face, and it was everything we hoped it would be.

Terrain had there Holiday
Terrain had there Holiday Open House on Saturday and what better way to end your morning of shopping?? Lunch at this beautiful garden cafe. This is a MUST if in the Westport area or make a trip......its well worth it.

I have been frequenting this charming place throughout the seasons, but always with just one other guest. Saturday eight friends met for brunch. It was the first time for the other 7, and my first brunch experience here . Jason our server was very attentive, well informed about the menu and did not hesitate to suggest some of his personal favorites and best offerings, which the group appreciated, being their first visit . The food was rated as very good overall , but it took a while for brunch to reach the table due to the size of our party. The chicken and faro was delicious, crispy skin with flesh very moist, gnocchi was very delicate, Bloody Mary's were good but not remarkable and very pricey. Everyone voiced plans to return again.
