Coming from NYC we had cautious expectations. Boy where we surprised. The food was fabulous and service excellent. Will definitely revisit on our next visit.

Super place for hand made
Super place for hand made brick oven pizza's with unusual ingredients. One pizza is large enough for two people to share if your having an appetizer. Pasta dishes are all made with fresh pasta and are uniquely garnished. Great bar, reasonable prices.

I thought the food was great
I thought the food was great and the Caesar salad was fantastic. The Brick oven pizza was wonderful to share and we each had a salad. Our friends ordered the beet salad and they thought it was a hit. I would eat there again. It was a bit noisy but it was not a problem for us. It is a hot spot and nice choice in San Clemente.

Chef David and crew are wonderful
Chef David and his crew make fabulous farm fresh food fit for foodies. We love taking people for there first experience eating here. We are never disappointed with our decision to do so. On the new Spring menu are some dates stuffed with the house made sausage then wrapped in Prosciutto. Wonderful. We almost always get the Market Salad for everyone to enjoy at the table. It is so fresh and flavorful and dressed so nicely, not over dressed iek at most restaurants. The Tagliatelle Carbonara with Pork Belly Confit, Pancetta, Garlic, Thyme, Black Pepper, Grana is also great to share. Of course, once here you should try the pizza and ours that day was the Carne. Guess we were into meat that day and boy, was it great.

We went to Brick for Mother's Day dinner - made reservations about a week in advance with no problems. Service was great, the food was AMAZING - Pork with white beans and spinach, meatballs, veggie pizza and the meat pizza... We all can't wait to go back!

Not your usual Southern Californa
Not your usual Southern Californa menu! Includes gluten free pizza dough and amazing ingredient combinations.
The bacon wrapped dates are a must! Meatballs are perfect and caesar salad with grilled chicken was amazing!
The Brick is a family favorite!

Waiter Ruins Dining Experience
A great place - most of the food is 'house-made' (pasta, pizza dough, meatballs, and sausages). I should eat here more often. But if I did, I might gain too much weight. Everything I've had here is excellent. This time, the waiter was horrible. Never around to re-fill water, Not around to ask for boxes, or to ask for the check. Made a mistake on the order, but told me I was wrong. Where was he? He was busy talking to his friends at a nearby table. In spite of this, I'll always be back for the great food. It's much better than other 'gourmet pizza' restaurants.

Best Caesar Salad ever
had the stuffed dates, caesar salad and meatballs with side of pasta. everything was totally yummy and we would definitely go back.

Great Food, Needs More Options
The food was outstanding. The ambiance fun and lively......The menu has very interesting items; however as a person who neither eats beef nor pork, my choices were limited. Some menu additions or options with chicken or fish would be appreciated.

Hot night in San Clemente
Hot night in San Clemente and really hot in the restaurant...
Food made up for it ! Great pasta and Caesar salad.
Definitely go back on a cooler night...

Always a winner
The menu changes seasonally and Chef David's creations are flavorful, farm fresh dishes. He uses just really great ingredients and makes the best appetizers, pastas, pizzas and meat courses in San Clemente. Right now the date appetizer stuffed with his house-made sausage wrapped in proscuitto are my favorite. My husband thinks they make the best carbonara in all of Orange County. Kevin is a great server and will make really good suggestions about the food and then what wine or beers to pair with it.

All around great
I wanted to go somewhere 'grown-up' and more classy than my usual lunch spots with the kids. They wanted somewhere they would recognize items on the menu. We all won! Great atmosphere, wonderful food, good ambiance, and the kids didn't' stick out like a sore thumb.

Excellent gourmet pizza!
Not only Brick pizza makes excellent oven-baked pizza, but they offer delicious pasta (w/meatball), appetizer and dessert! My toddler had the penne pasta w/meatball and the portion was over his size. We had a fried zuchinni with a special ingredient- goat cheese built inside the zuchinni. We had the Farmer's Market Salad with fresh organic vegetables and light balsamic dressing. We ordered two desserts- chocolate mousse (w/chocolate crust) and fresh scoops of gelato (Blackberry, chocolate, and pistachio). The menu is short and simple (including the wine list), and if you're looking to sit in a bar area they have a good amount of space.

A Super Sweet Spot in San Clemente
Thank you so much for a delicious afternoon supper of pizza! What a beautiful treat! The ambiance was rustic with delightful wood accents, cottony napkins, cushy pillows to lean on, beautiful drinking glasses. The food was delicious, priced right and incredibly tasteful. Our waitress was divine, personable, helpful, attentive, and kind. The best piece that will bring me back is despite the normal flat screen television sets that are featured in nearly every restaurant, we were able to leave them turned off. We came during an off peak time in between lunch and dinner so the restaurant was quiet. The cooks and staff were delightful. And again no distracting television! Tasteful in every way.

Best seasonal creations
On our last visit, we had the grilled peach and tomato salad and thought that Chef David Pratt could not top that dish for summer flavors. Well, we were wrong. We had a "pork chop" which was really moist and perfectly seasoned and cooked pork slices on top of a red flint heirloom corn polenta as a base that had some Smith Farm tomatoes and then the pork topped with arugula. Chef was able to take what could have been a heavy meal for a summer evening and make a much lighter, seasonal dish that was perfection.

unique pizzas and that ain't all --
chicken comes out of that 800 degree wood-fired oven, too, and from the kitchen there are the pastas and salads built of rare ingredients, but it's mainly about the pizzas -- with prosciutto, fig jam, duck confit and other beauties -- a great place just to drink a beer, too, and watch them work that oven, and make plans in your head to build one in your back yard --

Consistently the best there is
We love to take people to the Brick to experience really fresh, quality ingredients that are cooked to allow the fresh flavors to come through. This lunch was not exception. The eggplant was perfection and the board special pizza with peaches and pancetta was wonderful.

I love Brick! It's so much more than a pizza place. And even if it was only a pizza place, the pizza is more than just pizza! The fresh and creative ingredients turn the perfect crust into a masterpiece. The fact that it is cooked in a brick oven only elevates it. The pastas are great too, and I can't forget about Brick's Caesar Salad....it is one of the best I have ever had - seriously! No corners are cut in this restaurant. It's not fancy or fussy food, just simple and delicious ingredients that when put together and cooked properly are just perfection! I also love that I can bring my kids here. They love making their own pizzas!

Personal, friendly, attentive
We had special dietary needs within our group, and the waiter and chef went out of their way to accommodate our needs.
The build your own pizza for children was a real hit as well!

Great for Guests
We live in San Clemente and when guests visit, this is our go to place. It is consistently great food; always fresh, flavorful and unique combinations of food. Chef David Pratt changes the menu seasonally. Our current favorite is a pizza with fresh peaches on it. He also makes a very light summer pasta of Ricotta cavattati with the freshest of vegetables. You can tell all of the pastas are made there. The patio has views of the ocean and our guests have all enjoyed the Brick!

Great Choice for Lunch w/ Kids
Great food, Great Service, had a fun atmosphere with the kids building their own pizza and then watching it cook in the oven...
This was simply a great meal for the whole family... Pizza was superb; good choice selection on draft beer. Service was inter-active and friendly. We'll be back for sure. Money well spent.

We had heard about this place from friends and finally tried it. The whole experience was fantastic! We loved it, the food was so fresh, drinks were ice cold and good. We will be recommending this place to all of our friends.

Seasonal and Wonderful
Chef David Pratt uses seasonal, fresh ingredients in unique combinations to make extremely tasty food. Currently he has an heirloom tomato and peach salad that defines summer. Once a week he gets a pig, usually on Thursday. This makes Friday my favorite time to go for the limited cuts he butchers. This Friday was no exception. The pork saltimbocca was heaven: tender, myriad but distinct flavors, savory and a hint of sweet. Kevin was an excellent server making suggestions and there when you needed him but not hovering. I cannot wait to see what Brick prepares for Fall!

Awesome downtown option
The food at Brick is fantastic. The pastas and pizzas are all extremely fresh tasting and seem to be made from scratch. Great option for a night out.

Off hour lunch was great
This dining experience was for a very, very late lunch. Sometimes a restaurant will fail in service at this odd time but not Brick. We ate out on the patio and devoured the squash blossom appetizer along with the homemade sausage stuffed date appetizers. The English pizza was really good and this time of year you have to ask for it as it really is not on the menu. Typical of this restaurant, they try to always please the customer and made it for us anyway. THANK YOU! The peach and pancetta pizza has a delightful combination of flavors. The ricotta cavatatti (sp?) is such a light summer type of dish for a pasta that even for a warm day at the beach, it is perfect.

Outstanding Pizza and Pastas
As a part time San Clemente resident and a foodie Brick is the best that has happened to us food wise in SC in years.
The pizzas are equal to Mozza in Newport and Hollywood, which are the best in SoCal in my view. The pastas are innovative with excellent ingredients and people are very friiendly.
Will be there every week I am in SC.

Great place for Pizza and Pasta
The pizza is simply amazing! Pasta is great, too - house made pasta. The house-made meatballs are amazing. I like the wait staff placing orders through their iPhones. Pizza is better than any place in Orange County. It's amazing that you can eat a pizza, when the chef was making the dough that afternoon. Best part is that the owner (David) walks around to each table to inquire about each customer's meal.

Great to take friends
After posting on FaceBook about the new fall menu at Brick, several friends came down to try it out for themselves. They loved the roasted acorn squash with the burrata, roasted hazelnuts, sage, house made focaccia and balsamic the best. It still amazes me that my husband loves the new Tri-Color Salad as he usually does not eat salads: Fall apples, persimmon, pecorino sardo (great cheese), raddiccio, endive, arugula and fresh figs dressed with a walnut vinaigrette. Next time we are going to try the new duck confit pizza!
9/25/2013 5:00:00 PM
After we tasted the new Fall menu and posted comments on our FB page, friends called us and wanted to join us at Brick. We tried the butternut ravioli this time and it was truly fall flavored. The item we all thought was the best was the Acorn squash starter with the burrata cheese.

Luv this restaurant! Always
Luv this restaurant! Always amazing food and great vibe!
10/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had avoided eating here since the curbside appeal is lacking. Very glad we ate here though. Appetizer menu could be better and priced as small plates. Pizzas were perfection and the pasta dishes were cooked well. Wines by the glass were pricey for a pizza place. Desserts were awesome. Service was excellent. Definitely will be back. They need a bit more ambience to attract guests-artwork on walls, music, add some local flair, that is what San Clemente likes. This was some of the best food in the area and they should be busier than some of the truly mediocre places around the same area!

Chased away the blues
Feeling kind of low so my husband treated me to Brick to cheer me up. The acorn squash with the buratta cheese, balsamic and hazelnuts is heavenly. A new special was perfection:Brick Oven Seared Prime Hanger Steak with Gnocchi Del Casentino and a Gorgonzola Spuma. This was so light and yet so full of flavor. Another special was Chef David Pratt's lasagna. This lasagna again was extremely flavorful and rich, without a béchamel sauce! This perfect food with the wonderful server Daniel chased my blues away!

Lunch with a friend
Sharing Brick with guests is so much fun. Had lunch with an old friend and Kevin was so helpful making sure she got lunch quickly enough to get to her next appointment. She adored the fall salad with the Mary's chicken breast as did I and John loved the 4 cheese bianca style pizza with the added proscuitto.

Great to bring guests
With his creative ways to brick oven cook seasonal foods, Chef David Pratt's Brick is a perfect place to bring guests. Although a small menu, it has such variety that everyone will find something they love. Our guests this time really liked the acorn squash appetizer, the English pizza and we loved the hangar steak.
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
This is our go to restaurant, especially when out of town guests come to visit. Between the wonderful farm fresh food such as the squash with bur rata appetizer and the Tri Color salad and then on to the hand crafted pasta dishes such as the Carbonara or the pizzas.and finally the wonderful meats such as the Mary's Chicken, the hangar steak or the saltimboca, you will find something to please everyone. Service is friendly and very helpful in helping to determine which dish you might like best. Kudos to Chef David Pratt and Kevin.

We like the fact you can order different size portions. The meatballs were delicious with the focaccia bread. No need for spaghetti which is ordered as a side. The veal ragu was fabulous and the smaller portion perfect for someone that is not a big eater. Our waiter Raul was very attentive and helped us with selections as this was our first visit.
