Found a Treasure
We had been wanting to try Blue Hound and decided to celebrate our anniversary there. It was a home run (sorry, it's only a block from Chase Field!)! Contemporary decor very well done. The menu reflects considerable thought in choices: entrees from distant places enhanced with local fresh produce. Excellent (and unusual) presentation, with the vegetables lying across the entree and the exceptional sauce available for both. Both entrees were excellent; my wife brought half of hers home and it was still as good the next evening! The bar was busy--and a bit noisy--but tapered off about 6 (a week night). Simple wine list, but solid choices, reasonable prices. Highly recommended for great value and exceptional quality. Outstanding experience!

Fun evening; food a mixed bag
My daughters and I ate at Blue Hound Kitchen for the first time on a Saturday night. Parking was easier than we expected: You can park in the City Scape garage, and the restaurant will validate your ticket. Service was friendly but a bit slow at times. Overall the food was good. We especially enjoyed the spicy popcorn and the kale salad, and I thought the Kobe beef ribs were excellent. Desserts were a bit of a disappointment.

Great meal during visit to Phoenix
I was staying in town for a few days from NYC and read a great review about this place. Everything we ate was amazing. The lamb meatballs were the highlight of the meal. The corncakes were very tasty. Our waiter did a great job of making suggestions and making us feel welcome.

From the Outside
As soon as you enter the lobby, you're greeted with an ambiance I have yet to seen in PHX; This place immediately presented as a chic and stylish place to be. The hostess was inviting and accommodating of your group. The wait was minimal and the cocktailor was on it. A superb wine list and house specials dominate the drink menu. The appetizers were delicious and made fast as possible. The atmosphere was of class and professionals. And the prosciutto flat bread made my mouth water! This was definitely the place to be in downtown Phoenix. Not a single complaint, especially when the bill arrived; very inexpensive. I was shocked. I will be visiting many times and entertaining guests and colleges here. I was thoroughly impressed!

What a pleasant surprise!
We had an amazing time at Bluehound Restaurant. I was initially hesitant since it was a "hotel restaurant". However, we found that the atmosphere was hip and eclectic and the food was absolutely delicious. We had the biscuits and gravy, grilled cheese, and chilaquiles- all great choices!

After an initial issue about who was our server and having to wait a few minutes, our service was excellent. The food was creative and good especially the desert.

In the dreary downtown Phoenix food landscape, this place shines as a PERFECT pre-show dining spot to impress your date. A little tough to find, it's up an escalator in behind the building (currently under construction), but worth the search if you are going out to a show in downtown Phoenix. I would NOT travel here JUST for the food, there are MANY better (food only) choices in the Valley, but for a pre-theater/symphony/concert anyplace downtown this is the most impressive all around.

Great Place for special celebration
Enjoyed this special night out. Service was outstanding and we loved the lamb meatballs. We had plenty of time to make the symphony, as this location was very convenient. Also, enjoyed the chocolate creme brûlée, which was comped because we were celebrating a b-day & anniversary! We plan to go back next time we are down there...

Downtown Hot Spot
I do not really like it when the wait staff starts out telling the diner their favorites. If I have questions on the menu I will not hesitate to ask the server. Also we ordered five different dishes to taste and they all came out at about the same time. I think spacing could have been better. We did not want dessert but did appreciate the complimentary dessert that was given us as it was a birthday celebration.

Restaurant Week Winner
Really fun time at Blue Hound Kitchen. I had the dinosaur kale ceasar salad and it was outstanding, kale was very fresh. Then onto short ribs for the entree (although it was a long rib), also very good. Potatoes and apples served with the rib were my faves. For dessert, I had the strawberry rhubarb cobbler and I couldn't finish it, but what I had was super delish. My friend had the scottish salmon, brined chicken and pineapple upside down cake -- they all looked beautiful and she said the chicken had a ton of flavor. Want to try brunch next!

This restaurant was listed as being american comfort food and I feel like it fit that description to a T!

A Great Downtown Option
Discovered the Blue Hound during last year's Symphony Stroll & finally made my way back. My friend had skate which she raved about. I triedthebutternut squash with currants, yum! And, had the small portion of the signature Short Rib over blue sheet grits. Nothing "short" about it! delish!! You walk through the lobby of the beautiful Kimpton Hotel Palomar. Cool spot. We sat out of the patio and enjoyed Phoenix's gorgeous weather and did some people watching. Of yeah... Great sevice, too!!

downtown phoenix dining
our complements to the chef . . . the variety of flavorful offerings demonstrates a real blend of art and science. we find so many great things on the menu that we end up ordering different items just so that we may share. the drinks are unique with unusual names and well worth the wait if you have time. we especially appreciate the knowledgeable service that can assist with recommendations and ultimately with the final selections.

Satisfying Pre-Concert Dinner
A variety of appetizers combined for a tapas style dinner for two. Creamy deviled eggs, sweet butternut squash, rich and savory pork belly sliders with a touch of pickled kimchi and chilled brussel sprouts caesar, four dishes, an abundance of varied flavors, textures and temperatures pleased both my friend and I. Our waiter was also attentive and helpful. Based upon this initial experience I would definitely return again to try their entrees and desserts! Downtown location is a plus!

Dickel old fashion's on tap, what more can you say. The bar is well designed, drinks are well made and the food is imaginative and tasty. Items made for sharing really help bring groups together.

Good for veg
I am vegetarian and we went out with some friends who keep kosher. We decided to order one of everything from the garden section of the menu and share. It was perfect for 4, and so delicious! This was my third time dining at Blue Hound - will definitely be back for more.
11/1/2013 5:00:00 PM
I highly recommend this restaurant. The atmosphere is really what sold it. It was quiet and a little dark with each table being lit by a candle, creating a relaxed and romantic ambiance. However, the food was also good and the bar had a variety of unique drink options.

Not for traditionalists. If
Not for traditionalists. If you are not somewhat adventurist in taste for food or cocktails, probably not your best choice. But if you want something different, it's a great choice. Both cocktails and food items, although often very different sounding were very good. Probably not for "everyday "dining, but a really great downtown choice for something different.

Awesome short ribs and specialty cocktails! Great downtown location with window tables.

We will be back amazing drinks and the food was prepared really well.

Overall we were very pleased with our trip to Blue Hound. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was exceptional. One of our entrees was mistakenly given to another table and as a result our food took an extra 15 minutes or so. We were so impressed to find that three different people came by to apologize, including the executive chef himself who gave us a coupon for free dessert and appetizers for our next visit. It is that kind of service that will absolutely generate return business. One note - the portions are small, so be sure to order enough food.

Great for Date Night
We had friends from out of town and really needed a kid free night. We had a great time and enjoyed amazing food!
11/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
Dining at the Blue Hound before attending an event at the US Airways Center was a great experience! In excellent proximity, the restaurant offers a wonderful venue. Various types of seating (bar, small tables, large tables) and a patio offer many options. Food choices are varied, with tasty starters and larger dishes to choose. Server was attentive but not overbearing. Definitely will go back!
12/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
the devil eggs, over the top delicious as well as the tater tots. the short ribs, shut the front door type great. roasted chicken, unbelievable, crisp tacos were wonderful.
12/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
We had another fantastic pre concert dinner Sunday night. Everything was great, the dinners, wine, server and friends to enjoy the dinner with. The lamb was the winner for the night but the scallops were superb also. Our friends enjoyed the experience as it was their first time. One friend flew from Alaska to join us. Thank you for another wonderful experience. We will be back soon!
12/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
noisy, but great food, service
Patrons were dressed well, décor was modern, and the food & service was excellent. The only negative was the noise level of the crowd--hard to carry on a conversation--not a good romantic venue, but fun for group dates, Parking was expensive (valet 12 dollars and a half hour wait to get car because of traffic). I would recommend trying lots of appetizers--sharing is fun and delicious.

Eclectic mix of complex entrées.kale Cesar, great flatbreads. ate there twice, short ribs and halibut with chow chow. Great for local flavors
I put together an entire plant-based meal and was totally satisfied. My waiter gave me many good suggestions, even that i could have small tapas-sized portions of various offerings. I was there on Mother's Day and was offered a chocolate creme brûlée on the house for the occasion. I definitely picked the right restaurant!

A great experience
Beaitiful place with excellent food and attentive service. Get the steelhead trout and don't forget the pineapple upside down cake.
5/16/2013 4:00:00 PM
We enjoyed lots of little plates
We started with drinks and "starters" and never got to big plates. We could order smaller versions of lots of things and that was great fun. Plus everything was good - pork belly sliders, lamb meatballs, mussels - all good. We had to sit in the bar area and it was too noisy for me - I would not return unless we could be seated in the main restaurant area. Reasonable prices - excellent bar and wine selections. We had a very nice evening.

In the rotation!
The Blue Hound is in regular rotation for the wife and me. Outstanding and friendly service, interesting and delicious food...and make sure to get a bourbon Old Fashioned while you're there. Outstanding!

Great pre-symphonic dinner
Three friends and I had tickets to see Idina Menzel with the Phoenix Symphony so I checked for places nearby where we could have a decent dinner and a couple of cocktails. Blue Hound K&C is only 3 blocks from Symphony Hall so the location was perfect. Most of the dishes on the menu could be ordered as small plates, medium plates or large plates. So as not to fall into a food coma at the concert, this was ideal so we could try a few different things, share some plates, and still not eat too heavily. The bacony tater tots, scallop ceviche, ribs and cauliflower were highlights. The food, cocktails, service and prices were spot-on for what we all needed that night. I'll definitely be back for more.

What a Place!
My wife and I came here for our 1st Anniversary.
Our server Justis was fantastic. Walking us through the menu and offering great suggestions.
The food was mind-blowing. The BBQ ribs are the best I have ever tasted. So tender it does just fall off the bone. The fries were a nice side and rounded off the meal very well. In short everything we ordered was great!
And last but not least was the amazing desert. The chocolate creme brûlée, enough for two and so tasty it left us wanting to come back just for that alone.
Blue Hound has become our new favorite spot, and we will cherish this meal for years as it was the most memorable way to spend our 1st wedding anniversary. Even got a signed card from the entire staff. Just amazing!

Howling at the Moon
Saturday night at The Blue Hound capped off a fun day hanging at the pool at the Palomar Hotel. Get to the pool early as teh sun was gone by 2:30 blocked by the building. That shade allowed for a relaxed atmosperere with a breeze. Playing pingpong was a blast. We were pretty lit when we hit The Hound, so I wasn't real focused on anything but having fun. We did. The service was attentive and fun. Nice place to Staycation!

Special care and a great love of food is shown at this spectacular find!! An overall great dining experience!!
7/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
We have enjoyed the Blue Hound since its arrival in Phoenix, but had never tried brunch there. It's exceptionally good. The menu is a creative version of old favorites, and our food was outstanding. Definitely try the frittata. Service great as always. So happy to discover that brunch at the Blue Hound is as delicious and comfortable as lunch and dinner.
7/27/2013 5:00:00 PM
Loved the ambience of this place! Super fun decor, and energetic noise level. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu, both food & drink. Service was prompt, but without feeling rushed. The food was fabulous. This is restaurant I will definitely visit again!

A long workweek in Phoenix and a need for a good 'final evening' meal. How nice to find a restaurant that doesn't frown upon the 'table for 1' business diner. A stunningly designed space; friendly, knowledgeable yet not overly solicitous or fawning staff; amazing food (no, really, AMAZING FOOD--can we just talk about the scallops? Or the pineapple upside down cake dessert?!); skillful cocktails; and a terrific menu 'gimmick' where cocktails are paired with food types (and yes, it works really well--while also adding an element of fun to the meal). I would return here any time I'm in Phoenix!

Great dinner at Blue Hound
Great dinner at Blue Hound Kitchen & Cocktails. To begin with the servers and staff were friendly, knowledgeble and went out of their way to give us a wonderful experience, especially Emily and Cheyenne! We had the deviled eggs and chichitos as appetizers but there were so many good choices that it was hard to decide. They were both wonderful, not your mother's deviled eggs! For entrees we had the halibut with black eyed peas and the kentucky fried quail. Delicious! Our server did so well describing the desert that we decided we had to have the apple fritters. Heavenly, especially the salted caramel dipping sauce. There were so many excellent choices on the menu that we will definately return for another dinner even fromTucson.
10/17/2013 5:00:00 PM
My wife and I went there for a light dinner and drinks on Saturday night. It was a great experience. The waiter was friendly, attentive, and had an in-depth understanding of both the menu and the wine list. The food (we had Brussels sprouts salad, cornbread appetizers, and pork belly sliders) was imaginative and really, really good. We are a bit on the older side of the demographic that Blue Hound seems to appeal to, but it was a really enjoyable experience all the way around. And certainly the Blue Hound has the most sophisticated menu in downtown Phoenix's steadily improving restaurant scene.

Definitely A Cut Above
From cocktails to dessert, Blue Hound delighted our tastebuds. We tried three different perfect cocktails and can't wait to go back to try the rest of the creative drink menu. Our appetizer consisted of layers of flavors that worked well together and gave every bite a surprise. We had to have the ribs and scallops, loved them both. The pineapple upside down cake was brilliant. All comfort food-like, but with updated twists. My new favorite restaurant. The service was impeccable we felt special and welcome. Love the decor/feel, very nice.

Pre Theatre Find
We found Blue Hound on the list a great Phoenix restaurants and chose it because it is close to the Herberger Theatre. We plan to go back again when we have more time. Employees are friendly, courteous, and helpful, from the hostess to the bar tenders, server and kitchen help. My wife ordered the small dish of short ribs that was more than enough for one person. They were tender, flavorful, and delicious. I ordered the scallops in a spicy sauce that were also very good and would recommend them to others as well, although I will try something different next time. Our server kept us within our time frame so that we enjoyed our meal without rushing through it. We went on a Sunday evening and will return on a Saturday next time.
