This was my first time visiting Cafe Absinthe and I was completely blown away. The food ws great and our server was right on top of things throughout the whole night.

So glad to go back!!!
I used to go quite often but had not been there in several years. Was so glad to go back. I love the atmosphere with the warmth, exposed brick walls and open kitchen. I had a great server and a great beet salad and good fish entree. I am so tired of the new restaurants trying to out do everyone with too much fat and spice. So it was nice having some good, basic, well-prepared food.

What a great find! The food
What a great find! The food was amazing, defiantly try tithe beet salad, never knew how much I would like them. Drinks were also great. Can't say that I like the absinthe but my sister did, but the Martiinis and wine were fab.

tasty french food
The food is really good here. We had the scallops and the lamb, everything was very tasty.I just didn't like it that I could see all the activity in the kitchen.
Also, it was sad that for a Saturday night this place was half full.

Went to address for Cafe Absinthe on North Ave. but found a locked door that seemed to go to kitchen. No signs were posted so we wandered around the block on Damen and found the entrance in the alley. Found that very strange but entered a very inviting restaurant with a friendly staff and great menu, not huge, but good selection for all. Loved the food but found it slow on delivery. We enjoyed the halibut and salmon entrees and were almost too full as the salads are quite large and worth sharing. We were too full for dessert but enjoyed espresso and more wine. Would suggest a helpful sign in front to direct people to entrance.

Still great and with a wonderful decor. The seared foie gras is awesome!

Simply one of the best meals ever!
From the moment our party of four was seated, to the end of the meal, we were dazzled by Cafe Absinthe! Our server, Eric, was fantastic - a charming young man who gave us just the right amount of attention and professionalism. The food was skillfully prepared, artfully displayed, and utterly delicious - between the four of us we ordered the lamb, tenderloin, scallops and salmon, and everyone was delighted with the taste and preparation of their entrees. My tenderloin was amazing - perfectly grilled just this side of medium rare, with a delightful Cabernet sauce, and accompanied by a fabulous mushroom, asparagus, and potato combination. The white chocolate bread-pudding dessert with caramel ice cream and Frangelico sauce was sublime.

Simple and lovely
In a world of increasingly complicated cocktails and palate challenging entrees, Cafe Absinthe is a refreshing return to simple good food. I had a simple, beautifully composed salad, and an Amish chicken with a lovely collection of greens, potatoes and spetzle. My companion had the Halibut, perfectly cooked with really good creamy garlic potatoes. The passion fruit sorbet was yummy! The room is dark, which lends an air of privacy, though you might need your reading glasses for the menu. Our server seemed like he might be new, but he did a fine job. The wine list is affordable and not over large, I didn't feel like I needed a sommelier to guide me through it.

We went to Cafe Absynthe this last time to celebrate our aniversary. It is our special occasion place of choice.
the food an service were, as always wonderful. That is why we keep going back. One of the menu items I highly recommend is the roasted beet salad. Read the description on the on-line menu. It is both delicate and very flavorful. On this last visit I had the Amish chicken and my wife had the halibut. Both were done to perfection.
We will be returning.

Great Friday Evening Dinner Spot
Located in the heart of Bucktown forever, this place gets overlooked. The food is without a doubt great. The prices are reasonable. The chef and staff are accommodating - creating a dish off menu on the spot for my vegan dining companion. The beet salad was very large and delicious and the rissoto was great as well. A great bottle of wine capped off a nice dining experience and night at Cafe A. Check it out.

Definitely not in the burbs!
Cafe Absinthe has a really unique and interesting decor. Coming from the suburbs I was thrilled to head into a restaurant so unlike anything where I currently live. The food was very good - especially the Beet Salad. I would go back just for that salad but everything was very good. I had a French Martini that was wonderful and the wine with dinner was also nice. I liked our waiter - he was attentive and friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I would definitely recommend Cafe Absinthe!

Becoming a family favorite...
I've been to Cafe Absinthe twice and haven't been disappointed. The menu is limited (8-10 items), but between me and my guests, we've ordered 6 different items. All of the entrees have been outstanding with great taste, attentive preparation and creative presentation. The service is very good, but not over the top. The meal is well paced from the drink order, to the food order, to appetizer delivery, the entree and the dessert/coffee. The price is a great value relative overall meal experience.
I would recommend Cafe Absinthe as a great change of pace from the typical restaurants in the Loop, River North/West and Near North options. Street parking is readily available and inexpensive.
