Especially great beer
One page menu but the food is great and that includes the attention paid to the sides as well as the meal's focus. The place makes great beer and you can get a fantastic sampler order and pick from among the many. Generally includes seasonal specialties as well. We like the chef's work and the hostess has it all together. She makes you feel like you belong there without becoming too connected. On occasion they run out of something it you get there late in the evening, however, all remaining choices are fantastic. Be careful with street parking and the meters....they will get you the second it expires.

easier to hear other tables
easier to hear other tables conversation than our own, it was very LOUD! Appetizers were very quick out of the kitchen. Our meals were slow and arrived and arrived sporadically. The food was great!

Our waiter was very friendly
Our waiter was very friendly and helpful, and was very knowledgeable about the menu and beers, as well as generally enthusiastic. The food was excellent, as was the beer (though I think I bit off more than I could chew with the stout aged in bourbon barrels - I managed to drink it, but it was quite strong! I opted for a easier-drinking beer for the second round). I highly recommend the Lambic/Framboise float for dessert! The only downside was the view out the window (it's located in a light industrial area full of warehouses and machine shops), but the view inside more than made up for it.

Great food (desserts to die
Great food (desserts to die for!) and a wonderful staff. Enjoyed the experience!

Not just an alehouse. This place has GREAT food! For lunch I like the fried oyster po'boy which has some locally grown greens and bacon on a long bun. The side salad that comes with the entree isn't just thrown together as an after thought. It's a nice mixed of greens that are very fresh. The burger is also great! The beer needs no introduction since they're among the best local craft brews.

Great beer selection and great
Great beer selection and great food, and friendly service. We'll be back next time we're in town.

No Entrees But Great Apps
Stopped by for the first time Friday night with 2 couple and was quite pleasantly surprised by the overall experience. We started out with a mix of different brews and each person was happy with the choice they made with the waiter's assistance. Then we cycled through most of appetizers (oysters, cheese board, meat board, etc.) but the mussels definitely stood out as some of the best any of us have had. The waiter was a tad bit insistently on making sure he fully delivered whatever message he had in mind but overall the service was almost "very good". It is a neat place with all kinds of rooms to accommodate whatever type / size group you might bring but know that the neighborhood seemed ok but definitely in transition to something better.

Terrific as Always!
As always we were not disappointed at the Heavy Seas Alehouse Sunday. It was a special occasion, the service by Zach was fun and spot on. Holy Sheet was available and the entrees, appetizers, and deserts were perfectly prepared.

Go for Beer!
I would not choose this restaurant just for the food, though it was good. I had the portabello sandwich which was actually delicious and my husband had the steak, he says it was pretty good!
I enjoy the selection of local beers the best. I would go next time and get beer and some bar food.

We've been to Heavy Seas several times; it's always a pleasure. The onion rings are to die for! The beer/drink selection is awesome as well. Definitely worth the trip.

I ate at Heavy Seas on a pretty quiet Monday, and we had great food and attentive service. I had the Amish chicken, which was juicy and had a great asparagus side; my dining companion had the short ribs, which she pronounced "excellent". The beer selection was of course good, and the Pimlico pie was a great finish.

Birthday party reservation for 10
Had a party of 10, with an 11th showing up towards the end. The service, food and beer (try the Cutlass Cask!) were great, however the wait for the food was long (~55 minutes). Otherwise we were very happy.

Best burger in town
Heavy Seas is my go-to. Friendly service, amazing burgers, great beer, great wine list. I've planned happy hours there, couples dinners, date night, game day -- you name it -- and it never disappoints.

Ale house dining
Great atmosphere. Great beer. Great service. Good food.

Great beer and food!
I have been to Heavy Seas before and just sat at the bar for a few beers. They do have a nice choice of in house beers plus many other choices of beer, wine and liquor. I would recommend a "Fleet O'beer" which is what they call a beer flight or tasting. We also had a nice meal and everything was awesome. I had the Kobe style burger and it was amazing! The fries were great too. We also had a few oysters which were very fresh and delicious. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a good meal and a great beer.

True Bawlmer Class
From the $3 parking garage to the friendly staff ... HeavySeas should not only be known for amazing Brews, but amazing dishes. The burgers and filet mignon are flavorful and mouth watering ... Though I am not usually a fan of Salmon, this Chef has converted me. It is as if I was back at 6 years old with that delighted feeling that I now know the true taste of well prepared food ... This is not your Grandparents' B-more dive ... This your Charm City original done right, Hon.

Love this place!!
Delicious food, great service, fun ambience - came here with my family for a birthday party and had a blast. Everyone loved their food, which ranged from stacked Kobe burgers to crab cakes and vegetarian platters. Something for everyone, and have always been impressed by the food. Great for groups because there are so many rooms they can put a large group so you don't have to speak quietly at a table of twelve, but there are also cozy, quiet corners for couples and smaller groups. Love this place!

We had a long reunion
I met up with old friends and we stayed for hours. The service was great, the craft beer was good, as was the food!

Great Beer, Decent food
Food menu is somewhat limited but good quality. Kobe Beef burger was cooked as I requested and tasted great. Cask Aged beer was excellent.

This was our second time at Heavy seas and we really enjoyed ourselves. Since it was nice outside we sat in the courtyard area, which our 5 yr old loved she got to play checkers and corn hole while we waited for our food. The beer is great and the food is great too. I had the rockfish which was cooked perfectly. My only suggestion would be to season the potatoes a little more, but they were still very good. Our waitress was outstanding as well. We will be back!

Heavy Seas Ale House is a hidden gem in a Fells Point/Harbor East area. Their home brews are great and their burgers are absolutely tasty and juicy. Am ust stop for anyone in the harbor area.

Try it for lunch
Went on a Sunday for lunch and the place was very quiet. The lunch menu is simple, but its is very good. I would get the beer sampler and the burger or po' boy.

Cozy feel, amazing food and beers
Went here to watch the Ravens game. Not too crowded, and plenty of great seating to watch the game. Food and drinks were awesome. Everything came out great, and there were plenty of tasty beers to choose from. Place has a great pub feel to it, comfortable booths, very nicely designed. Would def come back again!

Food was delicious, everyone was incredibly attentive and fast. Great overall experience.

Perfect for our needs
I'm a local, we (professional contacts from out of town) came in for the brews, meal and conversation. Sadly for the establishment, the place was bare on the Tuesday we visited, but it worked out perfectly for us. We could take our pick of tables and nowhere was there anything noisy. The noise level was nil, so my rating reflects our visit, not what others should reasonably expect. I could totally tell that the place would be rockin' if it were full -- perhaps for a popular ball game or something. The kitchen seemed a bit slow considering how few people there were... not sure why.... our server was so young and new that we didn't make her work too hard, but she was great with information and recommendations. Great food and beer!

This was a great place to hang out with freinds. We wanted to try out different beers and this was a good choice. The waitress was excelent and helpfull about what type of beer to try. The outdoor spot was different but enjoyed it.

Good Food, Friendly Service
We went to Heavy Seas on a quiet Monday night. Food was good (my husband LOVED his lamb shoulder braised in beer.) Our server was friendly & fun. Only negative, the food came out very slowly even though the place was pretty empty. Go figure!

Oyster Po' Boy sandwich rocks!
Love that they're open for lunch on Fridays now. The oyster po' boy sandwich is really good and also try the beer battered onion rings. Of course the beer is great. If you like IPAs try the loose cannon, very hoppy taste but not overpowering.

This was our first visit to the alehouse and we lucked into the first day of Baltimore Beer Week! What fun! We sampled 2 flights including the cask beers and settled on the cask opened that day for a pint with lunch. The Red Sky was outstanding. And the food was delicious. We particularly liked the homemade chips. We tried the oyster po' boy and veggie Panini. Even though it is a 2 hour round trip to get there, we will return to try other beers and food.
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food and our waiter, Zach, was tremendous. Enjoyed the evening. Time to receive orders could have been shorter but the food was hot and really good so this was not an issue for us. We'd go again or recommend it to others.

Full of surprises
I had been to the Heavy Seas Alehouse before, so I knew about their ability to match foods with certain beers produced by Heavy Seas. However, the highlight of my night was accepting the waiter's recommendation to try their pumpkin ale, a taste that matched nicely with my crab imperial and pretzel appetizer as well as my steak dinner. Along with the ambiance and friendly wait staff, the food was fresh and cooked to temp with the right amount of seasoning.

Great brews, and many in cask
Too bad there isn't a choice for "amazing beer selection," since the wine list doesn't count. Food was very good but when taken as a whole with their brews, it was outstanding. Many cask-conditioned choices, too.

Great burgers - great beer!
We went on a Monday night and enjoyed excellent burgers and sandwiches and fabulous Heavy Seas beers. The crowd was light, the food was great and a few of us even enjoyed beer cocktails. Service was attentive and knowledgeable about the beers. This will become a must visit on each trip to Baltimore.

Corporate Group Dinner
Excellent atmosphere and decor, however the crab cakes are not up to Maryland standards at all and the onion rings have so much breading they look like donuts (and are very greasy and lacking in taste, although that is just my opinion - some of the others dining with me thoroughly enjoyed them). However, the Kobe burger, oysters, and beer (of course!) all received rave reviews by both myself and those dining with me. I can't wait to go back and try some of the other menu items!
