Always a great experience
This has become my go to place for Italian food. Had their VeL Pamkgania and it was great. I'll keep going back. Small outdoor dining area open now.

Gaetano's great but noisy
We love Gaetano's - it's one of e best Italian places in Denver. Our only issue was the noise was so bad, we couldn't hear our group talk.

Mother's Day lunch with kids.
Good food for entire family. Staff was very accommodating for our girls.
A return is definitely on horizon.

Northside Italian Gem
Took my mom to Gaetanos for Mother's Day. Service and staff were excellent. They assured me they could prepare a meatball sandwich for my mom even though its not offered on the weekend menu. Was impressed with the newly renovated space. Much more open and bright. Wait staff was very efficient and kind. Only complaint was they were piping in 60's music much louder than necessary which really ruined the ambiance. My mom has been going to Gaetanos since the 50's and we will return to get another fun Italian meal. Would love to hear some Sinatra music on our next visit.

Excellent service but wow the noise
The service was excellent and friendly. They also accepted our request to sit in a quite place in the restaurant although that is a relative question since the restaurant is noisy all over. The music was too loud and did not seem to fit the environment.

Love the new vibe
Been going to Gaetanos off and on since the 70's. Energetic staff bring a historic restaurant to life. The bar service was better than excellent- rye manhatten was best drink I have ever had-and the cherries!. Tony was amazing! We went on Friday@4:00 when Tony had some time to give us extra service. By 6 the place was full and hopping. Good to see the many generations. Menu updated with a gourmet flair. Portions were huge. One of us had traditional eggplant parm and loved it. Caesar salad was wonderful for 3 people. Even topped the meal off with spumoni which to my surprise was great. You must be able to take loud background noise because there were large talkative groups. Will certainly return! It was worth the drive from SE Denver.

A Blend of the Old and the New
I hadn't tried Gaetano's in years, but knew they had recently undergone a renovation, and being Italian myself thought visiting was long overdue. As soon as I walked in i was impressed. It was lively and energetic, and he staff was terrific. Not only was their service great, they certainly were part of the ambiance of the evening.
If you go, see if you can get someone to give you a mini-tour. My date and I were treated to a visit to the basement which was full of history of both the famous and infamous from a waiter that was very eager to share with us.
A very memorable and pleasant evening, with good food and wine at moderate prices. We'll be back.

Sunday lunch. Dinner menu
Sunday lunch. Dinner menu offered all-day on weekends. Family used very good table bread to steal unctuous mussel broth from me. Caesar salads and lemon risotto were other tasty 1st courses. Next, Mom enjoyed the Alfredo, Dad the sea bass (Branzino) and I savored the Carbonara (pasta w/egg & cream sauce, peas and bacon). Brian loved his huge dinner Caesar w/chicken. Dad was introduced to new beers and I drank Pinot Gris by the glass. Cannoli and Spumoni ended the meal on a sweet note. Staff was affable. Family of 4 fit comfortably in a leather booth; our eyes peeled on the entrance like the Mafiosos did in the 40s. Neighborhood gem restored with care.

Old fashioned Italian Restaurant
We had tickets to Andrea Bocelli and decided to take our moms to Gaetano's for an authentic Italian meal. We were very pleased with our whole experience. We were seated by the kitchen but never noticed any noise or wait staff traffic. The wine list offered a nice selection of wines for a small restaurant. We had a fresh, spicy arugula and beet salad followed by a delicious seafood ravioli special.

As always, the best Italian Cantina
As I said before, everything is superb!! The food, the service, attention to detail, etc is wonderful!!
6/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Sun is a huge problem!
Sun is a big problem, impossible to find seating ( except for up at the bar) that doesn't have the sun blaring in your face. Service is good, service is good too. I was a little disappointed when they didnt acknowledge our anniversary as I had told them when I made reservations that we would be celebrating our 27 th.
6/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
We really enjoyed Gaetano's menu and ambience. It was exactly the neighborhood restaurant we were hoping to find. But what made it special was the service. Miles was exceptional as he made sure our gluten free needs were met. We enjoyed all of his suggestions, and his stories about the history of the restaurant and neighborhood. We'll definitely be back.

Amore e Pasta
A little unassuming spot on the corner of 38th and Tejon, Gaetano's has quickly become a favorite for hearty dishes, healthy wine pours, and its creative cocktail list. It's dark ambiance and "Family" feel makes you think you're in New York or Chicago not our little Cowtown.
The service is fun, flirty, knowledgeable and just all-around fantastic.
Be sure to ask your server about the Interrogation Room and original meat lockers.

We just had the best time
We just had the best time at Gaetano's. Seriously...what a great experience. From the moment we walked in the door the entire staff made us feel welcome. The ambience is terrific, the food is fantastic and the staff...well they are simply amazing. I can't say enough about this place!

Great Spot for Italian!!
I love this spot, been there a few times now & always a great experience!! If you can land Dinner when the Sinatra impersonator is there, it will be a fun dinner!!
7/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food was so great that we went twice in 2 weeks! It's a great revival of an old neighborhood standby. Everything was fantastic including the home made pasta! Lots of choice on the menu from the traditional to the gourmet.

We saw Derek Evilsizor (slantedhat) and thought he was great. The staff was very friendly. The food was great. Because the doors were open they had the air conditioning off and it was a bit warm.

We have always enjoyed the history connection at Gaetano's. The food is great, and if you go on a night "Frank Sinatra" (Derek Evilsizor) is entertaining the crowd, it's even better!

Nice to come back to
This was our first time back since the re-branding/remodel. Great service, menu delicious as always. Will feel more like a 'neighborhood' place when some of the newness wears off. The new cocktail menu is a little cheezy, and they served my husband's martini in a white wine glass? Otherwise it was very pleasant.

Had had family visiting from out of town and this was a must visit for them. The rich history and beautiful new look made this the perfect first night for them. Our server (Zach) was great and very knowledgable about both menus and restaurant history. I love this place!

Great atmosphere and food quality
Met friends for an early dinner. Both host and server met us with a smile and warm greeting. Our dinners were served quickly and presented well on the plate. After dessert we were escorted to the famous " basement " for a detailed tour of the Gaetano family history. Very entertaining and gracious. Will return soon for a later dinner or perhaps just drinks on their patio.

We were a group of 4 enjoying a night out after not seeing each other in a while. First off, main complaint, the noise is excruciating in this restaurant - we really had to yell to each other. The food was good, not exceptional, but 1 of our party is gluten free and there were nice options for that diner. Our waiter was pleasant and informed.

Great food and great services!
My husband and I came here at 5:30 for dinner on a Saturday night and it was great! We sat right next to the bar in a small booth and it was perfect! The food was delicious, the drinks were perfect and our server was very knowledgable and friendly! The menu is fantastic and it was so hard to choose just the right item for dinner! We had an appetizer, dinner and dessert. All around a fabulous experience!

There is so much to like. We have been here twice recently and had an excellent experience both times. The staff, the food, the history and ambiance. Very nice.

Great place for a fun night
The bar staff were an entertainment in themselves. Quick to make suggestions and interact with our table. The food was excellent (salmon, lasagna and chick parm) and the dessert was superb (tiramisu). A great place with a colorful history and excellent staff make for a fun time.
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
great neighborhood spot
Gaetano's is reliably excellent. Our food and service was top-notch and it's always that way. I like the fact that this place is in a neighborhood, not part of a "scene." The history is fun -- it was once the hangout for what passed as Denver's crime mob. That alone would be no reason to eat mediocre food but the food alone is reason to try this place. We had the pescatore and carbonara and both were excellent. If you like olives, try the olive appetizer.
8/26/2013 5:00:00 PM
Great Italian food
Cool Italian restaurant with very good Italian food and nice ambience. Highly recommended.
8/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was my second time back at Gaetano's since they remodeled. The food and wine are very good. I love the new decor. The first time we went, we had exemplary service. This last time, they were busier, and our server was pretty absent. But we got the food in a timely way and it was good. Note: It was a Friday night, and there was a Frank Sinatra impersonator. Fun, but very loud and interactive, so if you're looking for a quiet dinner, that's probably not the best time to check it out.
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
Really friendly neighborhood spot
Sometimes I think the service says as much about the restaurant as the food. With that being said, Gaetano's was a great find. Our server was funny, kind, attentive, and even brought me a complimentary tiramisu for my birthday. Her recommendations were spot on and honest, and I loved the older, authentic Italian crowd in there. Felt like I was back in Chicago.

Nice homey feeling, like a small bistro attentive staff very pleasant experience
9/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
Wonderful - As Always!
The food was great - lasagna or chicken marsala (not too sweet!) or gnocchi (w/bolagnase sauce) and paella or olive appetizer = yum.
We were treated to a tour of "The Basement" by a Smaldone family member who works at the restaurant. Both the guide and the tour were wonderful! Please don't take the tour if you don't have an imagination or a love of history but I will continue to make the restaurant and the tour a stopping spot for visitors (as if the Sinatra imitations weren't reason enough). Gaetano's has a well-deserved crowd on Friday nights so plan your first visit early on a weekend (5 ish or after 8) or on a week-night (check their web site if you enjoy Frank Sinatra - he has a superb imitator performing on certain evenings!)
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was our first visit to Gaetano's and all four of us loved the food and appreciated the wonderful service. It was the best meal I have had in Denver. Still dreaming about the gnocchi!
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
I have not been to Gaetano's for many years, so we decided to try it. The food was wonderful...especially the polenta and the gnocchi. Julie was our server and she was excellent - knowledgable, friendly and always seemed to know when to be there and when to just leave us alone to enjoy our evening. The only down side was the noise.
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great place, Great food and wine.
I went to Gaetano's for the first time Friday night. we had a wonderful dinner and the wine was really good too.
My only regret was getting the mussels to start, they where very little meat on them but the sauce was delicious.
I would go back for sure.
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Cozy and delicious!
Arrived about a half hour before our 7PM reservations and invited to sit at the bar and wait for our table. Had a very nice bartender make us a couple delicious cocktails and was attentive and funny but not overbearing. The house mgr also checked with us to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and struck up a conversation too. Our waiter was helpful, friendly and had a great suggestion for my entree and both our dishes: clams with olive oil pasta and garlic, and my chicken scallopini were delicious, and very prompt. I always have a great experience at Gaetano's and would still recommend.

"Frank Sinatra" TOO LOUD
As a long time resident of the Northwest side of town, we have always been huge fans of the food and history of this storied restaurant. I love to take friends who have never been to Gaetanos there to talk and to share tales of the Denver organized crime families who made this location their favorite too! However last Friday, when five of us wanted to share dinner and catch up, the "Frank Sinatra" imitator who was entertaining was so loud that it was not only impossible to talk to the person across the booth from you, you could not hear the person next to you. The volume of the music was so high it was painful to even be in the restaurant. Larry McDonald and our server Vicki were WONDERFUL but egomaniac Frank needs to tone it down!!!

I recently wrote about having a poor experience at Gaetano's for the first time, in my years of visiting this neighborhood gem. It wasn't the food, it wasn't about the decor, it was strictly on service. Gaetano's management team reached out to us, and asked for a second chance, we took them up on it, and had a drastically different experience. The service was impeccable, the food amazing, especially since it was right on time, and served in the appropriate sequence. Great job Gaetano's we will be seeing you again soon!

Date night dinner
My boyfriend and I went out to Gaetano's for dinner on Saturday. I was able to make a reservation online and were promptly seated upon arrival. Our server was great and so was the food. It was a bit noisy for us but all in all it was a very nice experience. We will definitely be back.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
We've lived in the Highlands for 5 years now and we just now got around to eating here. First: I can't believe it took us this long to try it, and Second: We will be back again and again! Service was amazing. From the host, to the bartender, to our server. The food was delicious and perfectly prepared!!! You have created a life long fan out of us, and we couldn't be more excited to visit this establishment again!!! Thank you very much for making our night so wonderful!

I had the Caesar salad and Carbonara. My wife had Salmon. Both were excellent. Energetic is a good way to describe the atmosphere. It's kinda loud, in a good way. Our server was just okay. She answered our questions well enough and everything came out promptly, but I think she would have rather been somewhere else on a Saturday. We will be back during the summer to enjoy the patio.

Fun, Historical, and Authentic
Can't believe it was my first time at Gaetano's. The food was really good. I had a New York Strip with mashed potatoes and broccoli rabe. It was very good. The staff is very personable and the chef himself gave us the history tour downstairs. Looking forward to returning soon to try some of the pastas. I spied some of the other customers' plates and it looked delicious. Too bad it's a 45 minute drive for me, or I would be going there a lot more often.

Great old time Italian restaurant
This is a great old-time Italian restaurant with a unique cocktail list and occasionally some entertainment, such as a tribute to Frank Sinatra.
