An extraordinary find!
As my wife said after dinner: "Simply the best food and restaurant experience we've had in a long time!" A very special menu that changes every day and brings great creative Northern Italian cuisine to the low country. Wine list is exceptional as is the service ... The owner/chef and her husband very much involved in the details and very happy to discuss it all. Server David and his wife wonderful as well. Can't recommend this experience enough ... and certainly should be on the list of all interested "foodie" visitors and residents ...

An Unexpected Find
If you want a break from the low country fare and are ready for an authentic, well-prepared, beautifully presented meal from the Piedmont- Italy's New Food Capital -according to Food and Wine Magazine) in a relaxed, welcoming setting give Griffin Market a try. The menu changes daily based on what is available, not just in the market, but in the chefs garden. Two standouts were the kale tagliatelle with peas and spring vegetables was light as air and still memorable a week later. The Vitello Tonnato was another excellent preparation. Trust the two husband and wife teams who manage/cook/serve and you will have a great experience. We're so glad we didn't listen to some of the locals who tried to steer us away from this unexpected find.

My husband and I celebrated Father's Day Sunday dinner on this occasion. As always, Laura and Ricardo the owners did not disappoint. The Sunday prefix menu consisted of three appetizers, two entrees, and a dessert along with an extensive wine list. The food is always fresh with wonderful presentation served by a caring professional staff. We have eaten here many times and have been served terrific meals. It is by far the best restraurant in Beaufort. Definately a unique dining experience!

Cute Spot in Beaufort
This is a rustic Italian/locally sourced restaurant. The arrancini appetizer was delicious, as was the risotto. The kale pasta was good, there was just a lot of it, and I did not get the brown butter or sage flavor as described on menu. The chicken and eggplant main courses were awesome. There is a fantastic wine list, and the owner Riccardo is helpful in recommending a wine in your price level. (Most wines are Italian, and we were not as familiar with them). Our server was very nice and not obtrusive. The only thing I would not recommend would be dessert - I thought one was going to be butterscotch bread pudding, not actual pudding. The chocolate pudding one with candied sesame seed brittle was better. Overall, a very good dinner!!

We went for the Sunday prix
We went for the Sunday prix fix dinner and it was wonderful. The pasta verde was probably the best pasta I've ever had. Linda the chef/owner was gracious. A splendid nit

Absolutely outstanding...and in Beaufort, SC! I have traveled to Italy and this meal was as good or better than any I enjoyed there. Will most definitely return. When you read some of the gripes about the bread service just chalk it up to Americans who don't know how to enjoy a meal. Who would let bread ruin your meal??
6/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
I went there for my birthday with a couple friends. I had heard of Griffin market but had never gone.
After living in Sicily for 3 years and being back stateside, I had really missed the food! The Chef, Laura Bonino
Did not disappoint. We went there on a Sunday where it was a fixed menu and everything was just as amazing
as I had remembered from the true Italian food in Siciliy and Italy. The deserts are to die for! I cannot wait to go
back for another fantastic dinner. The staff was quite wonderful as well.

Exceptional find in Beaufort SC!
In our first visit to Beaufort we discovered Griffin Market. Despite the name this is very much an Italian (Piedmonte region) restaurant. Chef Laura and husband and Maitre'd Riccardo own the establishment. They, and some of their excellent service staff (Laura and her husband David) migrated from the famed Galileo brand in Washington DC. They have created a foodie and wine lover's mecca in this small historic community. We started with their Sunday 'fixed price" menu and then returned Wednesday, our last evening in Beaufort, again. Both evenings were outstanding! Riccardo has a superb wine collection that he proudly showed us after dinner. Everything was perfect. This is a wine-only establishment. Make this a must destination in Beaufort!

Just like Italy
This is a great restaurant. If you want to feel like you are in Italy or in your Italian nonna's or mother's kitchen, this is the place for you. We enjoyed the food and left satisfied. The service was excellent and the food authentic.
7/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
We enjoyed every moment! From Ricardo's "buonasera" upon our arrival, to "ciao" on our way out, we savored every morsel of our experience. The food is, simply, delicious. With great ambience and an extensive wine list, we had an extraordinary evening. Ricardo punctuates the meal with animated stories of his home in Italy. Va tutto bene!!
We all agree....Griffin Market is a sensory delight!!

3 star restaurant in Beaufort!
We have been several times since we discovered Griffin Market. The food has been consistently outstanding, comparable to the best restaurants in Chicago, SF, and NYC. Don't let locals discourage you from coming here. Yes, there are "rules," but who cares when the food is so good? Do not miss the tagliatelle -- the best pasta dish I have had in any restaurant. Ever. Both the verdi (vegetable) and bolognese versions are simply outstanding. The arancini, white anchovies, and insaIada de mare are fabulous. Hubby loved his humongous tuna sandwich at lunch. Haven't explored too much else because I just cannot get past these dishes. Everyone we've taken here loves it. Bravo, Chef Laura and sommelier Riccardo! Long live Griffin Market!

Another Great Meal
Griffin Market never fails to exceed expectations. Menu varies daily but keeps old favorites too. Husband and wife team complement each other: she producing marvels from the open kitchen and he being the gracious, friendly and wine-savvy host. Couldn't ask for more!

Familial gastronomic traditions
Familial gastronomic traditions very evident in menu items and attention to preparation.
Most enjoyable for our party.

New take on Italian food!
Menu choices were unlike the usual Italian restaurant fare. This is not a spaghetti and meatballs place! The food was very fresh, using local farm produce with uncommon ingredients in surprising combinations. Everything was delicious! Portions were not overly generous, but after 3 courses I was stuffed! Probably not a good choice for children...very few of the usual kid's menu choices and everything is a la carte so the bill adds up quickly. Definitely a "go back" for me!
7/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food is outstanding and
The food is outstanding and worthy of any special occasion. I've had lunch and dinner one time. I look forward to many more dining experiences there. yum

wonderfully authentic Italian
This a terrific addition to the dining scene in downtown Beaufort. Wonderfully authentic Italian cuisine, with a twist. The kale tagliatelle verde was delicious and so inventive, with baby sweet peas, so fresh. The seafood salad was incredible with baby octopus, squid, scallops and shrimp. Delicious chicken milanese with arugula salad with endive so lightly dressed. Really a wonderful meal all hosted by the amiable owner, who, along with his staff, was most attentive and helpful.

Rare, unassuming gem
This restaurant was truly a rare find. The menu changes often (daily, I think) to ensure only the freshest ingredients. The proprietar is from a northern region of Italy and he follows his family's traditions as well as the region's cultural traditions in terms of the courses, when bread is served, etc. If you are willing to play along and let the chef/proprietar call the shots -- including making the course and wine pairing recommendations -- you will not be disappointed. Absolutely amazing food!

My passion is to live in Italy...this is the closest I have been!

exeptional flavors and presentation AND it tasted really really great

Excellent, authentic Italian
Terrific antipasti course -- great variety of meats, veggies, cheeses, and risotto balls. Pork belly entrée (over pureed parsnips) was excellent. Dessert was decadent. Wine list is extensive, and Riccardo (the owner, and our server) can recommend something you'd like.
9/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
We loved everything. It was like being in italy.amazing food... Fantastic wine list. Great desserts. By far best restaurant in Beaufort.
9/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
We loved everything but especially the cauliflower flan appetizer. If we were at home, we would have licked the plates.
The wine selection was awesome. We highly recommend this restaurant.

What a wonderful dinner. There were six in our group and everyone loved all the dishes. The service was perfect. Most important make a reservation.

A great ending to our day...
Almost anonymous outside, inside the restaurant is intimate yet very friendly, it reminded me of neighborhood restaurants in Italy. The food is surprising and flavorful. Great for dinner for 2 or up to 10. Reservations are a must. This was a great ending to our day in Beaufort.
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
4th visit to this restaurant and 4th time NO food left on plates of any of the guests with me. Fantastic fresh and innovative menu.
If you are ever in Beaufort SC and want to have a wonderful meal please try The Griffin Market.

Three of us went to dinner here on a Sunday night for the tasting menu. All I can say is not a plate left the table with one bit of food left. Everything we had was very good. We all will go back again!!!

Italian Elegance in the Low Country
Dining at Griffin Market was an experience we didn't expect in South Carolina. The menu was based on the availability of food for the season. The dishes were fresh, complex and authentic. The presentations were so beautiful we took pictures. The owner waited on us and kept coming by to see if we were enjoying our food. We couldn't stop smiling because each course was more delicious than the next! Just when we thought we had had too much to eat, we shared a dessert and we practically licked the glass. The wine list was extensive and a bit daunting, but the owner know his wines and will happily recommend something perfect for your meal. I couldn't recommend this restaurant more confidently!
10/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was not our first visit and definitely not our last . . . the noise level is usually quite low, but on our last visit we shared the dining room with a large group of visiting golfers. They were both loud and entertaining. I asked for gluten-free in advance, and they had several enticing entrees. Our visiting Texans were extremely impressed with the food, the wine, the service and the entertainment offered by the rowdy golfers.

Four course meal on a Sunday
Four course meal on a Sunday which included all three appetizers was outstanding. The chicken pate' in particular had a quality and taste that was superb. Portions were more than adequate when you consider that you are having four courses. Wine menu selections could be shortened as it is a bit overwhelming for the average person. Great restaurant.

Great food, atmosphere, and service! Highly reccomend!
10/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Best Italian food I've ever had outside of Italy! Impressive wine list and excellent food. Took out children ages 5 & 9, and the staff could not have been nicer. Would totally recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting an authentic Italian food experience!
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
We dined at Griffin Market twice during our recent 5 day trip to Fripp Island. Its like a breath of fresh air to dine where it all seems to come together, The food is divine, the wine choices are inspired, the owner's knowledge of the wine is remarkable, and the overall experience unmatched. Open yourself up to an opportunity to experience Italian dining the way the its meant to be-just like mom would make! Try the chestnut pasta with duck ragu, the oxtail, and budino for desert. You won't regret it! They have plenty of familiar dishes also, so there really is something for everyone!

Best Kept Secret in Beaufort!
Griffin Market is like an oyster. Unassuming from the outside, not even a sign, but inside is a rare and beautiful pearl! Best wine list in the Lowcountry, and the food is even better! Our favorite local place!
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Griffin Market is one of our favorite dining spots in Beaufort ! You can always count on the food being tasty, and the service is excellent. It is not too large, so it has a warm feel to it. You just can't go wrong with Griffin Market !
10/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
This is probably the best Italian restaurant I have been to outside of Italy so far. The food was excellent as usual, service was very good and the wine selection was great, thank you Ricardo...
11/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Exquisite! Will definitely go back
I went with a group of four, and each of us was delighted with the food, the wine, the service and the ambience. The maitre d' recommended a fabulous bottle of wine. Two people got the four-cheese pasta; one got the chicken milanesa; I got the homemade local kale tagliatelle (sp?) with asparagus, fava beans and a sage sauce -- amazing flavors. The side salad had a deliciously light citrus dressing. Of course we had to have dessert. Butterscotch custard, strawberries with a special creamy sauce, and an eggless chocolate concoction -- all wonderful. This restaurant prides itself on using top notch ingredients, and this attention to quality shines through. Portions are smaller than at chain restaurants, but the tastes are beyond compare.

We went for the Sunday set
We went for the Sunday set price dinner and it was an outstanding value

This would be a great restaurant in any city. But to find such a gem in Beaufort SC, a charming town in a naturally beautiful area that is a gem itself, is an added bonus. We dined on Sunday, when the restaurant has a fixed price four course menu. The menu changes with seasonal food selections. From appetizer to dessert, the meal was first rate. Wine selections were aligned with the evening's menu selections, and they were outstanding as well. If you live in the area, try it. If you are passing through, make it a point to stop. In either case, you'll want to come back again.

Lunch was excellent
The food was very good. I enjoyed my Arancini. My friend thought it was pricy at $7.00 but I found it worth the price. I also enjoyed my Tagliatelle alla Bolognese. I plan an returning with friends.

Worth the trip!
Drove three hundred miles to try this restaurant. Will do it again.

Italy in the SC LowCountry
I can't believe it took me so long to find Griffin Market. If you are in Beaufort and enjoy good food and wine (especially Italian!) this is the place for you. I've dined throughout Italy and as soon as I walked into Griffin Market I felt like I was transported back to some of my favorite Italy restaurants. The service is friendly, the wine list is extraordinary (Franciacorta! if you like sparkling wines, you'll love these!) and the food is exquisite! The menu is a terrifc mix of lowcountry local items with true Italian flair! The first time I went was for the Sunday night pre-fixe menu (great bargain) I then went back on a Saturday night to see the full menu and it certainly did not disappoint! Loved it! Next time, I'll try lunch!

Recently enjoyed the Sunday
Recently enjoyed the Sunday fixed price dinner--food was excellent! The owner was very attentive and explained all the dishes and made a very good wine selection for us. There were some lengthy waits between courses, but we assumed that was because each dish was being made to order. All in all an enjoyable experience, very reminiscent of eating in Europe.

Unusual low country gem
How wonderful to discover superb Italian food and hospitality in the heart of the low country. Classic cuisine like eggplant parmigiana prepared with great delicacy and outstanding flavor. Unusual variations prepared with local ingredients like kale tagliatelle with fava beans. The host is eager to discuss his amazing wine list and assist in finding just the right bottle. The small, simple dining room is a welcome departure from fancy restaurant decor. At Griffin Market, the focus is on excellent food, wine and service.

Fantastic food, service
This was my first time dining at Griffin market with a few of my best lady friends. I made reservations, was seated quickly upon arrival, and all of the staff were extremely nice and helpful. They had such an extravagant wine selection! Ricardo was very helpful with pairing a nice wine with our meals, not to mention helpful with their dessert menu. To die for!!! I will definitely be spreading the word about this gem of a place and can't wait to go again for another wonderful dining experience!
