We went with the tasting without pairings (the cocktails were divine, so we stuck to those). If you have a particular desire for a menu item, the kitchen is very accommodating about substituting. The food itself is very good - and the 7-course menu changes daily. The courses were surprisingly huge for a tasting, especially towards the latter half of the meal. You definitely won't leave hungry. I would probably have opted to just have one desert and have another smaller savory dish since I barely touched the last course (a heavy chocolate sorbet that seemed a bit heavy - but I guess they needed a chocolate something). Worth a visit and def a sign of good things to come in the neighborhood.

Worth the trip...
At the risk of sounding like a cognitively dissonant Manhattanite, it was worth the trip. Our son starts at The Brooklyn Latin School (down the street) in the Fall, so we checked out the neighborhood. Found this place while walking around on a Satruday morning and made a note to come back--yes, it made an impression while closed on a foggy morning.
Doing research online...made me skeptical. The reviews are pretty lofty. But we dig in, invited a friend from Brooklyn, and set out to construct our own tasting menu at a table for 4. Two ducks, a scallop and a chicken (each impressed), 4 different appetizers (a couple impressed, a couple fell flat). and 4 desserts (again, a couple fell flat). Couple of bottles of rose (both were excellent.)

Living in forest hills queens
Living in forest hills queens means that many Bkln restaurant s are a challenge to get to. This is one fortunate exception. Excellent dinner. Very interesting combinations. Be sure to ask your server for detailed descriptions as the menu just lists ingredients and its how they are combined and cooked that makes the dishes so good. But this is not a place for the meat and potatoes crowd.

Tasting Menu !!!
Took my husband or his birthday and feeling a little adventurous, we went for the tasting menu w/ wine pairings. At $120, this is definitely one of the best deals in the city!!! We absolutely loved everything we tried, even the lamb's tongue, which is incredible. The wine pairings are very generous pours so enjoy the taxi or walk home. Look forward to trying some other items on the menu and the cocktail menu as well. Also must make mention of the lighting in the restaurant. The individual spots on the tables created perhaps the best lit dining experience we have ever had. The food is clearly lit while there is no harsh light in the dining room or on the diners. Great for checking out what everyone else is eating and not being seen gawking.

Tasting Menu a great adventure
Started off with creative cocktails at the bar (the Block Party was delicious) and then chose to do the tasting menu (7 courses plus the signature whiskey bread). Definitely worth it. Just the right portion size of food and an eclectic variety that was excellent. Very attentive staff that were friendly and helpful.

The limited menu is packed with interesting combinations of foods and delicacies. The restaurant caters to a sophisticated palate.

Get the Tasting Menu!
Start with the whiskey bread and then give yourself in to what follows. We were pleased. Their take on the Manhattan(I forget the name) was great as were the other cocktails we sampled.

Duck was a teeth workout.
I will just say that myself and one other person at the table found our duck to be almost inedible because of how tough it was. I find this a common problem with this meat and It's always a hit or miss. This night it was a miss. I was unhappy that I didn't order the fish. The place if very nice and the appetizers were very good. I would go back and give it a second try, and order the fish.

Everything on the menu was fantastic! Great service.

Service was amazing. We asked our waiter to recommend his favorite dishes and were very pleased with his recommendations. The dishes were inventive and incredibly delicious. We will definitely be back.

I used to live two blocks away from Gwynnett St. Now living in FiDI, I must say I really miss having such a great restaurant within walking distance. Unlike most diners, the portions for me are perfect. I love how innovative Chef Clark is with his plating and ingredients. I am proud to say I must have tried every duck entree (the skin is just so crispy and the fat just perfectly rendered) and my favorite has got to be the Asian inspired use of tamarind, curry and quinoa. Also everybody should always order dessert. Yes it is small and pricey, but to experience very unique mix of different textures and gastronomy techniques to finish off a great meal is worth it. Only criticism I have are for the cocktails which are really hit or miss.

I have been to Gwynett several
I have been to Gwynett several times. It keeps getting better. The food is truly outstanding. The mix of ingredients is inspired and original without being over-the-top. The service is very friendly and accommodating. Although not inexpensive, the cost is moderate for food of this quality.

Staff was helpful and charming. Food was wonderful and the stand out was the basil blueberry dessert. Totally taste explosion!!!

Wonderful dozen dishes!
Selected this restaurant for a special dinner for a visit to Brooklyn with our adult children. Great service, dinner and setting. We all got different items and tasted each others. The favs were the duck, the scallops, and trout as mains; the summer lettuces were well dressed, and we got all four desserts. The Blueberry was our group favorite there, but all 12 dishes were very good and would get ordered again. Thank you Carl and Adam for a memorable evening!

In my top 20 - world-wide
The food in this restaurant was absolutely outstanding and incredibly innovative. I and my family are real foodies and go out of our way to find great restaurants, whether they be in Manhattan, Paris, Oaxaca, or San Sebastian. The variety and innovation of tastes and textures was wonderfully creative; the presentations were thoughtful; and the food was cooked - or not cooked - to perfection. I was truly impressed and am already planning our next culinary adventure there.

Not just a meal -- an experience!
I absolutely love this place. Ask your waitperson to describe the dishes. Everything is prepared in the most innovative way, with fresh, often local, high quality ingredients. If you love experiencing tastes (and textures) for the first time, you will thoroughly enjoy your meal.
It's great fun when you're in a group (though six is the maximum here, I believe) and folks can sample each others food, and compare notes, etc.
The desserts are hard to describe, but like nothing I've had before, and just amazing. I had one titled simply "Grapefruit" on the menu. It was actually an extremely complex collection of various forms of grapefruit and fennel, including candied, dried, sorbet, etc.
The service is discrete, professional, attentive.

Gwynnett Street Wows!
From the warm welcome up front to the spectacularly prepared and presented plates, Gwynnett Street wows on many dimensions. The tasting menu ran the gamut from a vegetarian delight to a luscious rib-eye. The first half of the menu was especially great...the tender and flavorful sweetbreads were worth the trip alone. The wine parings could not have been better, including a delightful find from Long Island. Run, don't walk, to Gwynnett Street.
9/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great experience at Gwynnett St. Delicious, interesting, intelligent food served in satisfyingly sized portions. The chicken was incredible, the duck was flavorful but a bit tough. Definitely order the whiskey bread to start. Like a sweet, dense biscuit, crispy and crumbly outside and soft inside.
Pricey, but not excessively so. I didn't feel like I spent more than I should for what I got.

Welcoming Williamsburg Eatery
Great atmosphere with tables were spaced out well in the dining area. The noise level was perfect. There were plenty of high tables in the bar area.
Inventive cocktails using interesting ingredients like Chartreuse. We had the Mr. Pink cocktail.
Food: The whisky bread was both sweet, moist with a crunchy crust making it worth the $5 price point. Sweetbreads were decadent but balanced. The pork, ricotta & cilantro was fine but not my favorite. Mains were the duck and chicken. The chicken was outstanding. For dessert it was creative in texture, visual and taste. The grapefruit dessert was balanced between tart & sweet.
Service: Attentive but not overbearing. Cost: Moderate
If in the neighborhood I would return for drinks or dinner.

Gwynnett is #1...
...on our top ten list. Attentive and knowledgable service both at the bar and at the table is always appreciated. Innovative combinations of ingredients are always a treat and the presentation gives to the eye what the plate gives to the palate.
Keep up the great work.

Amazing and superb dinner
Incredible tasting menu. Every dish was superb and well thought out. Wine pairing was strongest with the reds. A must do, don't let the casual decor fool you, this place is worth the visit from manhattan

Very unique platters. Service was great and they explain the platters which was awesome.

A little precious.
We had a lovely meal. It was a bit difficult at times to decern what we were actually eating. The flavor profiles were truly outstanding, I just wished for a bit more insight into what was on my plate. Our server was very sweet, but she only checked in with us about the courses once they were cleared.

Love the whiskey bread!
Had a really enjoyable evening at Gwynnett St, food was delicious and the service was excellent.

Inventive but approachable dishes
This was our second time dining at Gwynnet St and we were not disappointed. While admittedly, we had to google half the items on the menu, we both wound up with meals we thoroughly enjoyed. The flavors were sophisticated and blended well. The chef at Gwynnet is truly innovative. We also love that it's so close to our apartment. We will definitely be coming back.

Outstanding food &great service!
We (3 friends) really enjoyed our evening at Gwynnett St. Relaxed-chic atmosphere, warm and caring team and great, great menu.We tried:
- the whiskey bread, served nicely sliced &lukewarm. Perfect texture, not to dry not to doughy, really good! 1 is enough to share for 3 peeps.
- starters : pork w peaches&ricotta and quail w chestnut &sweet potato. Exactly as it sounds : delightful ! Nice proportions, beautifully dressed &SO tasty!
- mains : duck w fennel, mushroom&plum : honestly, the best duck I've ever tasted (and I'm French.) served gently rose, tender, savory. The fusion of the the 3 tastes in mouth was unbelievably good!! ; Chicken w lemon&carrots : really nice summer taste, gently grilled and juicy, really good too!
Just go there!!

This place was truly awesome! Food was delicious. I'm not vegetarian or vegan but ordered the Pumpkin Seed and I truly couldn't believe it was vegan...had to ask the waitress...so flavorful and beautifully plated! The parsnip desert was also outstanding...as well as the whiskey bread....ate all of this as well plus consomme, tasted all my friends food...plus 2 Mr. Pink cocktails and didn't even feel grossly full!!! Always a sign of GOOD food.....****

We took the tasting menu and the food here was really amazing. Good and peaceful atmosphere. Definitely one of the best tasting menu in Brooklyn (maybe the best !)

A treat for the tastebuds
Amazing food, amazing service, loved the decor. It was clear that a lot of thought went into each meal and the flavours worked together perfectly. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating.

Super nice restaurant with a very nice ambience. Was a Little dissapointed in the food. A bit tasteless, but the nice staff and restaurant def made up for it!

Excellent food, poor wine pairing
I went to Gwynnett with my husband for his birthday and overall we really enjoyed it. The food is outstanding and they have a nice wine list. We decided to take the chef's menu, which is $85 ($120 with wine pairing), and asked the waiter's advice with regard to the pairing: he said that the pairing is made with the wines offered by the glass, by definition not particularly good (!). He suggested to go for a nice bottle instead. When we pointed out that we wouldn't know whether to order red or white (they don't tell you what's on the menu) he said he didn't know what to tell us... We obviously ended up ordering a la carte and were extremely impressed by the taste of each plate we ordered. Still, they should offer an appropriate wine pairing!
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food was excellent. Quail appetizer was amazing. the Duck entree was so comforting, great portions. Much better than the 500 dollar dinners in NY from the famous chefs that have small portions.
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Almost Lives up to the Hype
Everything we ate was very good, but our dessert fell flat. The service was great; after one of the runners mistakenly cleared my cocktail from the table before I was finished, the server brought me another gratis.
The pig's ear salad and scallop appetizers were excellent!

Don't Miss Out!
This place may be tucked into the 'other side' of Williamsburg, but it's a gem nonetheless. The food was thoughtfully prepared, well balanced and executed perfectly. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable and took the time to discuss menu items with us as we tried to make our selections from great options. Whatever you do, don't skip the whiskey bread...phenomenal! If you enjoy a well-made cocktail, this is the place for you. The drinks are well designed and also made properly. I've seen many good drink ideas flop on execution, but not here. Overall, I would say it's a must try for the food and upbeat, yet classy atmosphere.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Simply amazing experience overall. Exceptional service - very attentive and professional. Wonderful craft cocktails, and a tasty boneless quail appetizer that was perfect for two. Dinner was Ocean Trout and Cubed Flank Steak - both were wonderful though the steak stole the show. Desserts were both good but the Peanut was fantastic. The Sweet Potato dessert was colorful - beautiful presentation, really - but the taste was a bit muted. Excellent coffee at the finish.

We live in the neighborhood
We live in the neighborhood and have been meaning to come to gwynett st. for months, and I'm so glad that we finally did! The service was great and our waiter gave us great recommendations. Great atmosphere: tables are far enough apart from each other so that you don't feel like you are having dinner with the couple next to you and I love the exposed brick walls. Everything we ate was really delicious, the stand outs from our meal were the whiskey bread, quail appetizer, and the duck entree - all were amazing! Their specialty cocktails list is well rounded and the whiskey ones we had with dinner were really good. We will be back both to dine and to have drinks at the bar and are looking forward to trying the chef's tasting menu.

We splurged as it was for a birthday and went for the tasting menu along with wine pairings.
The service was impeccable, well timed and the wine served quality and a excellently paired.
The tasting menu was a delight. One of the best valued tasting menus I have experienced in many years.
The food was fresh, perfectly prepared and exciting,
The chef is a genius. Well recommended.
10/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Absolutely delicious food. It has hidden flavors that pop up in delicate explosions in different morsels. Great combination of ingredients which I cannot even tell what they were, but work very well together. Congratulations to the chef. All three courses from the appetizer to dessert where an adventure. Small portions but enough to give you a very satisfying culinary experience. (I sound like I am one of the owners! - but I am not). The place was not too crowded on Halloween night, probably because of that or because it is somewhat removed from the "hot" street in Williamsburg, but I hope that it has enough patrons to survive because it is a wonderful restaurant.
10/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great place, food is amazing. The duck was outstanding! I had the chicken which was very tasty and the whiskey bread is not to be missed. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Great wine list.

As in, made my face happy. We got the 7 course tasting menu with wine pairing and it kinda turned into 9. The wines that were paired with each dish went very very well, and each dish came out perfectly timed with the last. I highly recommend the tasting menu, and the wine pairings are a great deal.

Great to have in Brooklyn
I am very impressed with this restaurant. The food was innovative, and incredibly tasty and in reasonable portions (read that as I was able to walk out comfortably as opposed to being overstuffed). Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive without being overly so. The exposed brick walls really don't give you a hint of the food experience to come- when we walked in we wondered if we were in the place that had received such rave reviews- it deserves every one of its positive reviews. I will definitely be going back

Interesting food, very trendy.
Interesting food, very trendy. Thought our main courses were delicious, but the appetizers tried too hard. A salad of sunchokes with scallop and seaweed was cold and slimy, tasting like something found on the beach. But main courses very good. Desserts: peanut, pear, banana or parsnip--trying a little too hard. Wonderful service--waitress great at explaining everything.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
I celebrated my husband's birthday here. This was our first time and I made the reservations based on the reviews. We were not disappointed, the meal was delicious and we had great service. Some of the ingredients on the menu are unusual, but the tastes all come together. The duck was amazing and very hearty. The appetizers are on the lighter side, the scallops seemed skimpy and not that flavorful, however the pig's ear appetizer and the raclette were big hits and very filling. The whiskey bread is worth paying for. We will come again and maybe even try the tasting menu. For this occasion we stuck with the duck and we were very happy.

Great ambience, good food
Dined at Gwynnett St's in dec 13, the place is a restaurant bar, with nice warm ambience. Jazz music in the background, brick walls, tables sufficiently spread apart relative to ny standards. I rode from Manhattan (convenient 3 L line stops from Union to graham) to a pleasant dining experience and was happy with the choice. Food is well prepared and very well presented. Menu is concise following the one-word-description now in fashion, that leaves an element of surprise but waiters were prepared to explain the details and the surprise was consistely on the positive side in our case! We had beef and deck, both extremely well cooked. Budget around 85 bucks 2 courses, glass of wine, dessert. Pleasant place, fancy but not stuck up.

Whiskey Bread! And everything else
Gwynette St. was a wonderful dining experience. The service was outstanding, and our waitress gave the best recommendations! The Whiskey Bread, to start, is one of the highlights. Lathered with butter or dipped in sauces, the bread is truly outstanding in both taste and consistency. I recommend keeping some for later to dip in the left over sauces of the following courses. For appetizers we had the Pig Ear and the Celery Root. Both had incredibly unique tastes, the highlight perhaps being the egg-yolk-celeryroot-almondsauce combination. Finally, the Duck with red beet spaetzle should be ordered by everyone who walks in. Overall, everything was done very well, and not overdone, as is the case with a lot of upscale restaurants.
