Excellent India food - and
Excellent India food - and its BYOB! All the recipes here are family owned and have their own slight variations to them. We got the Chicken Tikka Masala and a few orders of naan - we couldn't get enough of it! It had the traditional flavor to it but with a few other spices thrown in which made it delicious. The pistachio cheesecake was amazing too - wasn't too heavy and tasted great. I will definitely be coming back soon.

This was my second visit to
This was my second visit to Tandoor. After my first visit I recommended the restaurant to my roommates and they have been ordering delivery weekly. The food is great, the waitstaff is very friendly, and the prices are fair especially considering the large portion sizes.
I've been living in Lincoln Park for almost a year and have tried several local restaurants in that time. I would have to put Tandoor in my top 3.

Had a great experience. When
Had a great experience. When we requested to have a different table, the hostess/manager were very accommodating. We ordered the chaat fries, where if you are indian you can skip. In general it tastes like wendy's curly fries with some chaat masala. We also ordered the tandoori chicken tikka masala and the baigan bartha. Both were good, although definitely order the chicken tikka dish. The naan were hot, soft and fluffy. Also the mango cheesecake was wonderful as well. Definitely a solid Indian restaurant.

Healthy IndoPak Restaurant
Reserved a table for 2 on a Friday night, when we got there, the table reserved for us was a couple flights up from the entrance at the corner. Not really a nice spot, looks like I was gonna fall any minute. I wanted a different table, but since it was a Friday night, the place was packed. Our server "Jackson" if I remember it right was so nice and made me feel comfortable even at first I was really uneasy with the spot. He got our order, food came and the vegetable samosas we got was cold. They changed it, Manager/Owner came and said our vegetable samosa was on the house. He even offered us a free dessert. That was good customer service. Food is great. Not oily like any other IndoPak restaurant, you will leave the place happy and satisfied.

Great food and service
Byob, our waiter was amazing, friendly, and hilarious. We all had a great time and enjoyed the food. Try the chaat fries!

Tandoor Char offers true hospitalit
Tandoor Char offers true hospitality. Go -- if only to be reminded what hospitality feels like. Dishes are varied, flavorful and generous; everyone can find something to like -- from vegetarians to carnivores. My only regret is that I passed this restaurant so many times and only recently checked it out. Don't wait -- go now. A true neighborhood gem. Maybe you'll be fortunate, as we were, to get Sean as your server.

Seems to be a very popular
Seems to be a very popular place - we arrived on time for our reservation but had to wait about 30 minutes. The waiting area and overall decor left some to be desired, but when we were finally seated the food more than made up for it. We shared an appetizer (free as a gesture for the wait), biryani (served with salad) and entree between 3 people - more than enough food and all of it delicious.

Very engaged service, an owner
Very engaged service, an owner who cares and delicious Indian and Pakistani specialties including both curried and tandoori dishes. Excellent eggplant and beef in curried stews simmered until full of complex flavors. Tandoori Lamb was charred and tender. Samosas make a nice starter and the mango lassi is superb with more mango than some mango juice. Good recommendations on the menu. Pretty quiet at lunch. Hope dinner is more active so this good place stays around.

Unlimited rice & chutneys? Sold!
The service was fantastic even though I didn't know anyone's name (they didn't tell us). We got the impression from a few people that they were the owners/chefs, so it was hard to nail down, but great that, whoever they were, had a direct hand in making menu suggestions, answering questions and checking up on guests. Food was great but not life-changing (few foods should be, otherwise, it doesn't say much about your life and how easy it is to change). The desserts were phenomal whereas most Indian restaurants tend to leave me with something to be desired in that department. Unlimited rice and chutneys are crucial for an Indian restaurant and that sealed the deal for me here...only wish that policy applied to naan!

Fantastic food, quality service
I found this gem and reserved a table based on the HUGE amount of 5-star ratings for this restaurant. Tandoor Char House is a family-owned and operated restaurant. The ambiance is rather simple, but the food and service are OUTSTANDING. The flavors are textured and delicious. The staff was friendly, helpful, and attentive. Our server shared stories about his family and the cuisine. My friend and I were positively enchanted. We will return for sure.

Reasonable prices. Dishes were adaptable as far as spice level. My date and I ordered our entrees 'spicy' and were not disappointed. Pakora was delicous, as well as Shrimp Tikka Masala and Paneer Cheese Naan. The Baigan Masala had very tender eggplant and went well with the rice. We were seated 20 minutes after our reservation, but the owner was very accommodating and offered water and wine glasses to get us through the wait. This establishment is BYOB.

This place is affordable and delicious. I cant wait to go back.
5/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
Our waiter told us that dining at Tandoor Char House should feel as though we were at his mothers house, and that is exactly how it felt. From the warm, helpful, attentive service to the menu suggestions, our experience could not have been better or more comfortable. And the food was delicious! Can't wait to go back. Thank you for a lovely evening!

Delicious Indian Food
I was blown away by the quality and freshness of all of the food at Tandoor Char House. The flavors were incredible! The server was very nice and gave great recommendations.

This was my first, but won't
This was my first, but won't be my last time to Tandoor Char House. The restaurant is in an assuming, non-descript storefront, so it can be easily overlooked - make a special trip. I had lunch with a friend.
My chicken kabob wrap was packed full of nicely spiced chicken, lettuce and tomatoes (have them put the salad in the wrap), and it came with a plate full of their chaat fries (spicy, curly fries). All meals include a variety of chutney's - the Achar is fresh, crisp and SPICY (not for the faint of hear), the Tamarind is sweet without being sugary, and Cilantro is fresh an aromatic. My friend's Baigan Masala was rich, flavorful and the eggplant wasn't overcooked - cooked yet still firm (al dente).
I'll be back.....

I took some friends who came from out of town and everybody loved the spot.

What fun! The service was attentive and the food was a pleasure. I only wish I had stopped eating my entre soon enough to leave room for dessert.

Taste of home cooking
We had a wonderful experience at Tandoor the other night, though we ordered way too much food - it was all excellent. They ask you about the spice level you want. It seems the basic spice level is pretty low, so for most lovers of Indian food they may want to ask for at least medium spice level.

Tasty Food with Service
This is one of my favorite restaurant in Lincoln Park; food is tasty and customer service is excellent!

We will continue to go back to Tandoor Char House again and again due to the outstanding menu, the interesting fusion of their food, and great location. Easy, delicious, and a great experience every time.

Unique Twist on Indian
We have dined her numerous times and enjoy the great service and wonderful food. They have all the standard Indian dishes but also do some fusion dishes like tandoori pizza and fajitas. BYOB makes for a economical night.

Food was wonderful, and portion sizes are notable. Nice dining area and service and staff is very attentive. We will definitly return for dining in and carry out. If you're looking for Indo-pak cusine in Lincoln Park, it's high on the list.

Top Notch Indian Food in Lincoln Pk
We enjoyed Tandoor so much the first time we recently went back. Our server was very knowledgeable and provided suggestions that were excellent. Both owners took the time to speak with us at length as to the family recipes and preparation. The BYOB policy makes a reasonably priced menu an even better value. We love Indian food and Tandoor stands as one of the best we've been to. We will definitely be back.

Was very impressed!
I was fortunate to remember that I wanted to try this place when I made some plans for an impromptu date night with my wife. With my simple minded food preferences, I would normally opt to avoid Indian type fair. I read the menu and was actually excited, guess I was feeling adventurous. The food was absolutely delicious. We had the appetizer sampler to start which we chose the Chaat Fries, Beef Samosa, and Aloo Masala. The chutny and masala was awesome with everything, salad with Raita was very refreshing. We shared the Lamb Tiki Masala and Tandori Chicken Boti. Portions are very generous, plenty of leftovers I am dying to dig in to. Can't wait to go back. BYOB!! (Unexpected, but Kuleto Malbec went great with the meal)

Cozy neighborhood gem w great food
Tandoor Char House has a number of interesting fusion dishes, but we stuck with the traditional: samosas, tandoori lamb, lamb karhai and chicken biryani. The chicken biryani was phenomenal, but there was enough for two people to share and still have leftovers - no worries, it's still good the second day. The pistachio kulfi is a must-try for dessert. If I didn't think it would melt on the way home, I'd have ordered another to go. The waiter was very knowledgeable and took the time to describe the dishes we were less familiar with. The do a brisk service right after sunset during Ramadan, so make a reservation or eat a little early if you're not fasting. I am already looking forward to my next visit - have to try the mango kulfi next.

Best Indian Restaurant Not On Devon
It's not exactly cheap (or healthy), but the portions are huge, the flavors excellent, and there's even some creativity with appetizers like Chaat Fries (spicy curly fries with chutney dipping sauces). I'll definitely be back.

Great place to eat halal
Wasn't a fan of the fact that alcohol was served in a halal restaurant, the place was overall a really good find for me given the lack of quality halal dining areas when compared to the number of halal consumers in Chicago. Steaks are definitely the best of the lot with the other desi dishes not too far behind in the texture and flavor. Naans were awesome. Will definitely be back.
Pros - Great taste, nice halal fusion specialities, quantity is enough
Cons - Feels like a smaller place, alcohol, expensive

Keeps Getting Better
I've been to Tandoor Char House a few times and every time I bring someone new with me, they leave loving it just as much as I do! The food is amazing and I'm not a big Indian food fan! I love the fusion Indian food they serve and the portions are so big there is plenty left for lunch the next day. This family owned, BYOB spot really is a great place to bring friends and enjoy a great meal. I know I will be back again and again!

Best Indian Food in Chicago
Tandoor offers great selection of authentic Indian dishes. Amazing food and out standing service. I've been to Tandoor multiple times and every visit was a great experience. My favorite - Chaat fries, daal, lamb tikka masala, samosa and Garlic Naan. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend this place.

Absolutely loved Tandoor!!!
Absolutely loved Tandoor!!! I just moved to the area and hadn't had indian food for the longest time. Found this restuarant via OpenTable and was very pleased. It's BYOB ( thank you OpenTable reviewer who posted that). Service was really good, and the staff were very nice and helpful with making decisions from the menu. I would definitely come back. Be sure to maek a reservation since there is limited seating.

Fiance and I went here before
Fiance and I went here before going to the theatre (very close to the Apollo). The place was packed from 6 pm until we left 90 minutes later. Food was absolutely fantastic! I got the Tandoor Chicken Boti and my fiance got a lamb dish. Both were excellent, but big! Bring your appetite. Started with a vegetarian samosa that my fiance said was the best he ever had. Very well priced, quaint. We didn't have room for dessert, but we'll order it for sure when we return.

Great option in the city
I selected the restaurant without checking too many reviews. It is a smaller restaurant and seemed to be quite popular. It was quite busy on a Saturday night. Recommend making reservations before going. The parking is on the street. Plan to pay to park. I have had food in many Indian restaurants. I must say that the food here stood out on how well it was prepared. I had the Chicken Biryani. The chicken was cooked just right in a tandoor with rice that was crisp and cooked. All of that did wonders for my palate. I would recommend this restaurant.

I've dined at Tandoor Char House at least seven times now in the past six months, maybe more. I return because 1) the food is outstanding 2) the service is really personal and great and 3) I've not found a place that tops it for delicious Indian/Pakistani food. Tucked just south of Diversey Pkwy, on Halsted, the restaurant is cozy and straightforward. The atmosphere is pleasant, neither formal nor casual. The staff is on point, and you'll be greeted by the owner, Faraz Sardharia, and his family, as well as visited during the meal to ensure your experience is top notch. Faraz's (great?) grandmother's achar is a must-try, as it is delightfully spicy and flavorful. Don't forget, it is BYOB!

Came here for a business dinner. Food taste did not disappoint. Each dish had its own distinct flavor. Couple of small fixes could make this place exemplary: Though there were other tables available, they sat us and another group of 4 back-to-back. It felt like both the groups just were too close to each other. In terms of service, the server would remember that he had to bring our food item and he would dash into the kitchen. Could be a case of bad day for him. Very friendly place though. And the above minor things do not change my opinion of the food quality. The mango cheesecake (which I took home) is to die for. Definitely returning here to taste more items on the menu. Kudos to Faraz and team!!
