Relaxing, Fine Dining !
We recently tried "Au Cinquième Péché" after hearing about it on the Radio Canada program "L'Épicerie" during which they noted the restaurant's "ris de veau" (sweetbreads). Being lovers of sweetbreads, we were most interested in trying them at "Au Cinquième Péché". We both ordered appetizers (delicious) and the sweetbreads. Wow!Both the service (waiter named Renaud) and food we ordered were excellent. We went on a Tuesday evening in order to avoid the weekend crowds and noise. On the evening we went (during a recent snow storm) there were four tables occupied which made for a most enjoyable quite atmosphere. If you are looking for more action, go on the weekends (Thursday to Saturday). We will definitely go back.

This was our second time dining
This was our second time dining at Au Cinquieme Peche. We had an excellent experience the first time and the second was equally as great. The food, service and atmosphere is consistently great. It was worth the drive from Toronto!!

Let's taste some seal!
Food was very good, seal surprising and delicious!
A bit too expensive for what it is as many french restaurants in Montréal.
Decor is quite cheap but cosy.
Strong smell when you enter un the restaurant.

Le choix des vins est original
Le choix des vins est original et intéressant. Un classique à ne pas manquer : le ris de veau, cuit à la perfection. En entrée, le pâté de jambon au coeur en foie gras avec compote de poires et pommes est remarquablement bon.

This is one of our two favorite
This is one of our two favorite restaurants in Montreal, the other being Le Comptoir. The sweetbreads are a signature dish and each time we have ordered it the dish has not disappointed, including this time. Each time the staff has been very helpful and knowledgeable of the menu items. The menu changes and is adjusted for local seasonal foods. Seal was on the menu the night we went and I loved it! We are yet to have a single meal there that we have not fully enjoyed. The last time we were in Montreal was 2 1/2 years ago and last week we were devasted when we walked by their space to see another restaurant in the location. After some research online we found they had moved to a location at St Denis, just off off Boul Mont Royal.

This student was recommended to me by my students in food and beverage management, and I daresay they could not have picked a better place. The space is small but inviting and comfortable, with a great playlist that interesting but unobtrusive. The service surpassed our expectations. Uber-friendly and knowledgeable, our waitress was patient and helpful. We were allowed to take our time and ask questions, and the information we received actually helped us make up our mind. The sommelier was more of the same: patient, helpful, and best of all we didn't feel like we were being pushed the most expensive bottle on the wine list. The wine pairing perfectly complemented the food. The plates themselves were inventive and delicious! A definite A+!

An Unforgettable Dining Experience
We had the tasting menu for two with the wine tastings. I was somewhat reluctant to order the tasting menu because the courses were not what I'd ordinarily order, but I've eaten previously ay Au Cinquieme and knew the chef was talented. So happy I took the plunge and had an unforgettable dining of delicious food with perfectly paired wines. The cooking was top level technique and the progression of dishes/wines was very well thought out. Our server was super charming and contributed to the enjoyment of the evening with his descriptions of the food and wine, and why they were chosen. I'd highly recommend this restaurant to all my friends.

Montreal is a foodies dream
Montreal is a foodies dream city and Au Cinquieme Peche is among the best of what the city has to offer. Tucked away in the Plateau it is worth the long walk or cab fare to get there! We celebrated my daughter's McGill graduation and couldn't have been happier with her choice of restaurant.

Very attentive service. We all ordered the halibut which was slightly overcooked. Vegetables were creative and tasty.
I would try this restaurant again to see if the fish dishes are cooked better.

Superbe service.

Food was different but tiny portion
If you're the type that loves to try new things such as seal tataki, seal merguez, seal poutine, duck heart, etc... this place will give you that experience. Seal meat is definitely got a distinct taste and is wonderful. Don't come hungry as you will leave wanting to eat a whole other meal.

A memorable meal
We wanted something special and Au Cinquième Péché met our expectations in every way. The ambience is lively and fun, the food exceptional and the service charmingly attentive.

Original AND classic
Au Cinquième Péché offers at the same time an original québécois touch (try the seal starter) and classic French cuisine with a fine selection of privately imported wines. The French brothers who own the place intelligently marry North American produce with French savoir faire. Having been around for more than 10 years, they certainly know what they are doing.
Service is friendly and relaxed but also very professional.
Certainly a great place to spend a pleasant evening (the decor is also charming) and get a good idea of what talented Québécois chefs are capable of.

A meal for the ages!
We went with the 5 course degustation menu with wine pairings for only $90 each. Every course was fantastic, the service was fantastic, the wine was fantastic. A very memorable meal, one of the best ever.

Incredible, as always
Foie gras parfait... one of the two best dishes I've eaten in the last two years... and the other was in this restaurant as well. One of those plates where every bite makes you grin spontaneously.

Solid Tasting Menu
Have been meaning to try this restaurant for some time, I'm a huge fan of tasting menus. Was pleasantly surprised, this gem's tasting menu was quite solid. Not every dish, but most were spot-on.

This place is a must go. All young couples should have a go at this restaurant for an unforgettable ambiance and a romantic evening. If you go you must try the Seal. The seal chorizo and bean salad on the plate for the appi was the star...the flavours were unforgettable. The portion sizes are perfect. The Rabbit with Labrador Tea reduction, which was not on the online menu, was delightful as the combination of sweet and salty worked wonderfully. The wine list is not extensive but all the wines are biological and as it so happens are extremely difficult to get your hands on so enjoy the bottle while it lasts. Ambiance was awesome: Young couples, hipsters, old couples, middle aged couples with kids were all to be seen at a 9:30pm seating.

My friends and I had reservations and they immediately knew when we arrived who we were and were seated immediately. Our waiter explained the menu to us very thoroughly in English and we were very impressed. The food was great! And I was very surprised to find that even though the portions didn't look very big, (I'm used to big portions here in the States) I was very satisfied and I couldn't even finish my main course because I was trying my best to save room for dessert. Everyone enjoyed their dinners and we all agreed that the restaurant was very nice. There was a significant wait time between our main course and dessert, but as long as you're in good company, who cares? Overall, it was great!

an unforgettable dining experience
Anything on the menu goes! Having had the menu described to us by a waiter whose knowledge of food is superb was outstanding! I couldn't describe to you how delicious the octopus was as an appetizer followed by wild boar that doesn't need a knife to cut as it is so tender and "fall off the bone", delicious. Unfortunately we did not get to try the chocolate bar to finish our meal but it did look delicious! I will definitely be back!

The service was impeccable.
The service was impeccable. But not to perfect standards just because I'd made a special reservation to try their seal appetizer, which was posted on the website. When I arrived, they said there was no seal - it would just be nice if they updated their website more often as I was only going to Montreal for the weekend. The food was delicious though and the ambience is very cute and cozy. The foie gras mousse was my favorite dish, although the dessert of panna cotta with enoki mushrooms was also a forerunner due to its unusual ingredients, but smart execution.

J'ai tout aimé, du vin au service. Le seul bémol était l'exécution de mon risotto que je trouvais trop al dente (selon moi). Autrement, EXCELLENT et c'est certain que j'y retourne.

Not for the faint at heart!
Dined with a group of friends - it was a meat-eaters heaven. I ended up taking two appetizers because there was nothing on the main menu that appealed to me. It would have been nice to see at least one simpler, lighter plate. Unfortunately, the desserts were a little too complicated for their own good. Overall, though, we had a great evening with generous portions and great wine!

An excellent place to hang out and have interesting food. The Seal sausage is very good and the Bison is excellent. One of the only places I have been able to get Pistachio Creme Brulee'.

It's all about the food
This is a cozy, well-managed restaurant where the chef(s) really know what they are doing. The menu is small (5 appetizers and 5 mains and 4 desserts), and every one is thoughtfully put together. Ingredients are organic, fresh and many are local. ALL the wines are organic and the owners have found such wines from around the world. The staff is very knowledgeable about the food and the wine list, and offer totally unpretentious advice. Our waiter recommended a fabulous red to accompany my beef main and my husband's rabbit main.
There are many fine restaurants in Montreal. But if you are in town for a short stay (one or two nights), don't miss this place. You'll have a MUCH nicer experience than you'll have at 'fancier' places.

Interesting take on terroir
Food was very well prepared - good and unique flavours built around the terroir ingredients. Well presented - and a nicely paced meal - no rush and no fuss.
11/20/2013 4:00:00 PM
We all found that with the appetizers and entrees, the quantities of food were just right. I had the risotto which at most other restaurants is either too salty or too soggy, but this was exceptionally good. My fellow diners loved their beef and duck dishes. The wine list is short but has some very good all private importation wines even at the low end of the list.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
Outstanding and fun!
Great spot right in the heart of the plateau. Small restaurant (~40 - 50 seats?) with rotating menu on blackboards, everything obviously chosen with great care. Excellent selection of wines - and a very affordable list - accompanied by thoughtful and helpful service. A real gem.
