We loved the Eastern European
We loved the Eastern European food and charming atmosphere. Staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating on a Saturday nite!

Food was generally very good,
Food was generally very good, particularly their pasta. Portions, while they look big, are rather small. Ambiance is ok: it's a small restaurant on a street corner. It's perhaps a little loud, but the bar is in the main dining room. Service was good generally, but it did take some time to get the check.

Excellent service and food. A perfect birthday dinner

Yum! This is my 2nd visit
Yum! This is my 2nd visit to Bohem and it was every bit as good as the first. The service was outstanding. We arrived 20 minutes early and our table was ready. We were seated promptly and never felt rushed. The food was delicious, definitely try the perogies.

Great change from the ordinary American cuisine. Food is flavorful and presented well.

This place was awesome. The food reminded me of the great meals we've had in Eastern Europe. Simple, high quality, and delicious. A lot of Eastern Europeans frequent Bistro Bohem and for good reason. Try the Goulash. It's tremendous.

Excellent Eastern European
Excellent Eastern European food that we all shared.

Really nice vibe. Fun wine
Really nice vibe. Fun wine list. Good staff. The food mostly lacked umph except for the beet carpaccio. I'd go again for sure, just stay away from the fried things and the pierogi were just lumps.

This time was our second time at Bistro Bohem. It was delightful for the both of us. The lamb chops were nicely seasoned on top of a large pile of wild mushroom rosotto. They had to cook them a little more since I like my meat well done. That was no problem. David had a nice NY strip with potatoes and veggies. Very tasty!! The ginger martini is better if you have a cold, it was spicy!!!

The service was amazing, food was great too. My husband claimed he didn't like eastern european food before we went...he cleaned his plate. I didn't drink since I'm pregnant, so I can't comment of the wine and beer selection. It was perfect. Walking distance from the 930 club, so we went here first for dinner and the food came out quickly so we had plenty of time to get to the show. Would definitely go again.

Thank you, once again, to Bistro Bohem for a fantastic meal! I took my parents there for a Mother's Day dinner and we were not at all disappointed! Everyone loved their appetizers and meals - and I had a great glass of Czech wine! Thank you for a fantastic experience! I love having this place within walking distance!!
5/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
I'll be coming back!
Food just like my Czech grandparents used to make, but in a hip and vibrant environment. Servers were very helpful in accommodating our large group.
5/17/2013 4:00:00 PM
Had a wonderful dinner here on Saturday night. I would recommend reservations because the restaurant is rather small. We had a lovely window seat. The tables are close together, so beware. The service was great, the food and drinks were amazing and the portion size was perfect. Will be eating here again.
5/24/2013 4:00:00 PM
I chose Bistro Bohem for my birthday celebration and like always I had a fantastic experience. The food, beer, staff, and atmosphere made the evening wonderful. Thank you!!

Fantastic Dinner on Beautiful Night
We had a party of three and sat outside. The noise level on the street wasn't bad, and the weather was beautiful. The staff was very helpful in suggesting things for us. We had the beef goulash, pork shank and pork chop, all of which were fantastic. The food was exquisite. I am definitely going to come back.
5/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
Went to Bistro Bohem for dinner with friends and had a great time. The beet salad was fresh and light. The mushroom risotto was creamy and flavorful. The pesto fettucine was perfect! The bacon stuffed pierogis were a little too doughy for me, but still good. We stayed for hours talking and taking our time through the meal, but the wait staff never made us feel like they were eager for us to leave. Granted, the night was pretty quiet, but we still appreciated their patience!

I enjoyed the intimacy of the restaurant. The appetizers were great but the entrees were a bit on the oily side.

Awesome Czech Restaurant
This restaurant, in the middle of the Shaw neighborhood, is excellent. The atmosphere was great, the food was absolutely superb, and they comped us for something that was *my* mistake...they didn't have to do it, but they did it anyway. We will definitely be going back as often as possible.

2nd Visit Was Just as Great as 1st
This was our second visit to Bistro Bohem. We were just as pleased as we were with the 1st trip. Great food and really nice staff. There was a noisy bachelor party when we got there, but they soon left. One of the managers came over to apologize for the noise, so I was very appreciative of that gesture. I highly suggest this great place.

Delightful staff, delicious food
The homemade potato chips with yummy dip are addictive and wonderful. Loved the taste and texture of the gazpacho. The Knedlo, Vepro and Zelo-- slow braised pork, bread dumplings and cabbage-- were the perfect balance of melt in your mouth tenderness, soft breadiness and tart tanginess. Hearty, delicious comfort food.
The staff was friendly and efficient-- many are recent immigrants from the Czech Republic who are fun to chat with. For a small and very busy space, the service ran like clockwork. We were especially impressed with the hostess who managed some obnoxious and demanding customers graciously. Love the busy atmosphere and old world feel of the place.

Fine Comfort Food and Good Ambiance
We at here on a Friday evening and were pleasantly surprised by the lack of deafining noise that is so common in DC restuarants. The food is (mostly) traditional Czech fair, with some twists -- such as the peirogis with pesto cream sauce. The service was efficient and unobrusive. We will definitely be back.
7/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were going to a show at the 9:30 Club with friends, one of whom is vegetarian. Bistro Bohem provided the perfect mix of foods on the menu for the Carnivores and the Vegetarians. Superb food, delicious tasting, well presented and well served. We were so lucky to find this place and had an excellent evening.
7/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was fantastic, and of traditions you can't find frequently in DC. Very unique dishes from traditional Czech, Hungarian, and other Eastern European countries. The night we were here, we all loved our meals, and the live band in the other side of the restaurant playing interesting music as people danced. We felt like we had stepped into a Czech bistro circa 1960. We'll certainly go back.

An authentic gem!
Excellent food (Czech and Eastern European), reasonable prices, charming staff. A great addition to this dynamic neighborhood.

Good food nice ambience
First time at this place on a friends recommendation. Really enjoyed the cocktails and the service was very good.
7/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
We always enjoy Bistro Bohem. Most recently, we started with cocktails, the Campari Spritzer is a good one, and a Farmer's Platter. The platter is sizable, so you may want to stick with small plates instead of opting for a main course. The roasted pork with bleu cheese sauce was a special, and was good, but not as flavorful as expected, based on experience with prior pork specials.

Great breakfast/brunch find
The menu here offers an unexpectedly large, tasty variety. The banana crepes were delicious and light, but not overly filling. My friends and I sampled each other's dishes, and we all liked the tastes, as well as the presentation. The server was not overly attentive and came by at the right times to make sure we were all set.

Eastern Europe on Tucked in DC
My boyfriend and I came here for an early dinner before going out for the rest of our Saturday night. This place is tucked away around the corner from the Shaw Metro. I assume it is a spot Shaw residents frequent because it is super cute and delicious. We went because my boyfriend studied in Prague and wanted some of the same dishes. He wasn't disappointed and was especially excited about the drink list. My favorite thing we got was Bistro Bohem's Smazak. We'll definitely be returning soon.

Had one of the best DC restaurant
Had one of the best DC restaurant meals in a while at Bistro Boehm on Saturday night. The food was delicious. Had a very old world authentic feel to it. Reviews from our 5-person table were uniformly positive.
Serivce was spot on--attentive and pleasnt but not overbearing. There was no forced pressure have the plates taken away or be pushed out the door.
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
We've dines at Bistro Bohem on several occasions and the food has been excellent every time.

Not everytime as to be super
The Bistro is a neighborhood gem to us and unless the food goes downhill we'll still come. I had one of the specials, the cauliflower soup which was super excellent. It was a must have if you visit soon. My entree, the parsley walnut fettuccine, sadly kinda, meh. We had a little trouble getting our waitress' attention, but the other problem is we couldn't remember which one of the two-three dark haired women in jeans and a dark shirt was ours. We could tell the place was busy but our apps did not come around the same time for our table. The place was LOUD! But louder than normal because the windows were open and at least 2 ambulances drove by on Florida Avenue and the siren noise seemed amplified in the tiny space.

Czech It Out
Washington is not filled with restaurants specializing in Central European cuisine, which by itself makes Bistro Bohem distinctive. The food we had was quite good -- my spouse and I split a beet salad with goat cheese and capers (he liked the capers, I could have lived without them); I had a tasty dish of pork, sauerkraut which was not overly sour, and bread dumplings, and we split a nice, house-baked chocolate cake. The fare was not as heavy as this cuisine can be and was reasonably priced. This is one place where one is better off in the back room (which serves as a coffeehouse during the day), which is roomier and quieter than than the original dining room.

The second visit and stil ok
This is the second time I've been there for dinner. It is a fun place with good food and service.

nice beers, a fun but intimate
nice beers, a fun but intimate vibe, delicious small plates - a great place to go and share unique dishes with friends.

I absolutely love this place. Amazing food and wait staff.

Great food in a lovely spot.
I had a small birthday party for wife at Bistro Bohem recently. She had eaten there before, but neither I nor our friends had. The server was attentive and everyone was happy with their food. The music playing was nice but not over;y loud. Too often, I find myself in restaurants where I have to shout to be heard. I want to go back several times too explore their menu.

Great Fix of Mitteleuropa
I've been to Bistro Bohem three times now, and every time was great. First was just for a beer while I was waiting to meet someone back in February '13. It wasn't a busy time, and the bartender and I had a great conversation while I nursed a Czech beer I'd never had in the US before. The second and third times were for dinner. The food is excellent, and the portions aren't huge FYI--not tapas-sized small, but may or may not whet your appetite depending on your preferences. Go for an appetizer if you're hungry. The beer and wine I've had were great. The restaurant's not huge, so don't expect a huge group to be accommodated. Great for couples or small groups. Lively but not too loud.

I'm lucky I didn't find it sooner
Finally went to this place the last week I was in D.C. If I had found it sooner, I would have overspent on dining by a lot! The food was divine. I had the slow cooked duck and my uncle had the pork shank.

Candle list Bohemian Rapsody
Late night last minute dinner but really adore this small chic little slice of Czech paradise in the U Street corridor. A very hip and trendy spot but its intimate size and excellent menu make it worthwhile to cross town for! Love the wide selection of Czech and Eastern European beers - can't go wrong with any.

Great service and great cuisine
Bistro Bohem is the best Cheque cuisine restaurant in the city!
11/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
can't wait to go back!
food was delicious, service fairly prompt, attentive and very cordial. great atmosphere. special and low key at the same time.
my friends and I had a terrific time. I've been dying to visit Bistro Bohem for ages having lived in Eastern Europe for a couple of years and I'm so glad I finally got the chance. I will definitely be going back to visit Kafe Bohem to try their Julius Meinl coffee. I met Lenora (?) the GM and talked to her a bit about the kafe, the coffee, etc. and am even more excited to go back & bring others!

late night happy hour on Fri and Sa
Great Czech food -- love the atmosphere. Our waitress is really nice (who is Czech) but not very attentive -- probably because she has too many tables. Was quite surprised to know they have a late night happy hour from 10pm-2am during Fridays and Saturdays....
Definitely will go back.

Great service and very friendly.
Great service and very friendly. Made us feel very welcome. Ambiance was unique and comfortable. Food was well priced and plentiful. Great for something different but not too off the wall. Will definitely go back!
