Love Francais dining!
The wine was wonderful. The chicken was amazing! The halibut dish was amazing too! Did not care for the dessert - chocolate tart - should have been better. But we will definitely go back!!

Great French Food
Food, wine and service is excellent. Small but nice dining area. It probably was a nice romantic dining experience, if they did not cram groups in the upper deck. I understand that it had to be done to sit the all people in such a small area. The first floor would probably be a better choice for casual dining for couples. Great food and friendly host/waitress made for it.

The restaurant had a pleasant, romantic ambience with authentic French cuisine and a great wine list.

What a find.
Wow, I wasn't prepared for this small off the radar French Bistro. It only seats 18 so the sevice is perfect. It was so good that I went back 4 days later. They only offer a limited menu but don't miss the sides. That's where the wow is. Wild mushrooms with apple sauce stopped me in my tracks. The carrots and honey, the crab mashed potatoes. Flavors beyond description. The entrees , I liked the stuffed chicken the best and the Halibut next. The lamb was my least favorite. The goat cheese cake with beet ice cream was other worldly.

La Bouche de Enchantment
This little gem of a restaurant came up when I did a google search for "quaint restaurants in San Francisco" and google was spot on with this recommendation. Whatever algorythm they have for 'quaint', 'restaurants', 'san francisco' - works.
Its a wine bar and a restaurant, and while the menu doesn't go on for miles, it doesn't seem to need to as everything we had was really delicious. We also had one of the most inventive desserts we've had in a long time - goat cheese cake with a candied hazelnut bottom and radish gelato. DELISH! I would go back here time and again. The atmosphere was half of the fun - very charming.

Provence in Union Square
Bouche was a great find for us! The crab mashed potato was amazing. Loved the French wine selection. The ambiance was the best, Intimate and very authentically French with that SF flair. We will be coming back. Our waiter from Marseille was perfect.

Great food and restaurant!
The waiters are all French so they have a French accent when they speak, which really makes you feel like you're at a French restaurant. The place is tiny, so make sure to put in a reservation! It may be a small place, but it's a very cute place with light bulbs on the sides of the wall. Light also comes in from the windows they have. Their entree menu is small and simple, but the food is absolutely great. I had the chicken and it was one of the best chickens I've had. Their desert was absolutely fantastic as well! Can't remember what it was called, but it came with caramel that wasn't too sweet and went well with the main part of the desert. I would definitely come back here if I am ever back in SF.

Always a good time!
My friend and I both work nights and love going to Bouche for a late night bite to eat! The food is always fabulous and plated beautifully for such a small kitchen. It is all French so be prepared to be charmed by the staff Roman and Ben. They have a great French wine list with a good variety of French imported ales. I highly recommend trying to get a seat at the bar to watch the kitchen "move". It's a very intimate space so taking someone special/ close friend there is a perfect idea! The experience of Bouche is a must for the price of dinner for 2!

This place is small but very cozy. A lot of detail and care put into each dish. Great flavors creatively put together. Food iis vibrant and tasteful.

A limited but varied, and
A limited but varied, and regularly changing, menu provides enough choices to keep everyone happy at this intimate but energetic Bush street favorite. Great food with very friendly service.

Bouche is a Gem. A tiny restaurant
Bouche is a Gem. A tiny restaurant with huge energy, Food is terrific, the wait staff is really relaxed and friendly (Julie and Guiliaume - all of them). The very best of French culture with all of the creativity and none of the stuffiness!
8/12/2013 5:00:00 PM
Had a wonderful meal at this gem....Will definitely be back.

Tucked Away Gourmet French Bistro
If you love slow cooked - Sous Vide - French Bistro food with European serving size (just right vs trough of food), this is the place to go. And the wine list has great accompanying list of French wines - light & complimentary whites and flavorful reds.

Romantic Birthday Supper
We had a quick romantic birthday supper here before see a show at the Playhouse just down the road. It felt very romantic, the service and the food was great and I we would highly recommend this place if you like simple, intimate settings.
8/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
The dessert was the best part
The dessert was the best part of my meal. We had creme fresh in one dish and dulce de leche in the other. Dip dip yum yum
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Tiny, really. Bar scene dominates the downstairs. A half dozen tables upstairs. Slow service, limited menu and considering the tiny cooking area behind the bar the food was very good. No need to return, lot's of other places in the area of Union Square.

A Tiny Gem
We had brunch there on a Sunday and was so impressed we came back with another couple for dinner two days later. The second story seating (only about 10 tables for 2-4) is a perfect romantic date spot (bar is on first level with a couple of tables). The menus and the wine list are both small but very thoughtfully selected and the service is impeccable and friendly reflecting owner-management in every detail. The ceviche-style marinated yellowtail for brunch was superb and the sea-trout gravlax (one of the only items that overlaps to the dinner menu) was a velvety treat good enough to merit a repeat performance. One could wish for a few more main course selections for dinner but other than that, a real find.

Really enjoyed this quaint little restaurant. It is hard to find but very friendly and expert service with some great dishes to choose from. I loved the place and the food!!

Bouch is a good mouthful
Bouche sits over the Stockton Tunnel in the location where Bar Crudo used to be. Although the menu has few items, all of them are done well. It is a pleasant French meal near the downtown business zone. I have been there twice.
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Small business dinner
This was a new venue for small business dinner meeting. The venue is small and intimate, with two levels: bar seating on the first floor, and a handful of small tables on the second floor.
The menu was small (4-5 entrees), but I'm very thankful for doing a few things really well. The food was excellent.
9/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
Lovely small dining room.
Lovely small dining room. Wonderful menu and wine list; nothing too fancy, but everything perfectly prepared. Stunning desserts. Excellent, friendly, helpful service.
9/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
Loved the food at Bouche. Had fabulous snapper dish, wonderful lamb, duck confit appetizer that was a generous portion. Very small restaurant with a super energetic crowd increasing the noise level enormously. Service was efficient and very helpful in making choices for dinner. Will definitely return.
9/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very good, reasonably priced gourmet food. Only drawback was that the restaurant was too dimly lit to see how good it looked!
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
great French restaurant with fine cuisine. The menu is well proportioned, not too big, not too small and the cooking chef is very good.
I'm from France and I can tell you they are not kidding on the food quality and they are all very warm and nice.
This place is not overpriced too as lots of other French places in the city!

This place has become 'our place'
We wandered in here on NYE 2012 and were treated like we were royalty. The food was excellent, the service attentive and playful. We loved it so much I decided to surprise my GF with dinner there for her birthday. They called the day of our reservation to find out if I wanted to do anything special for the birthday. We settled on a candle in their tart of the day at the end of the meal. This was really the only misstep they made. Somehow this wasn't related to our waiter so when it came time for the tart surprise, he merely handed us dessert menus and asked us if we wanted anything. I casually let him know we were there for my GF's birthday so when he returned with the dessert there was a candle in it. Moment saved!

This little gem will be very successful. A lot of energy. Everyone works really hard.
Tone down on the spices....

Great service and food
We found this restaurant on Yelp and made reservations. The food was really great with good size portions. The service was also fantastic. Very attentive and waiters would check up on our table without being overbearing. The only complaint was that we had to wait about 20 minutes for our reservation but we could understand due to the intimate size of the restaurant. We would definitely eat here again and recommend it to others.
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
do not judge by the cover
we were staying downtown s.f., so was within walking distance, we took a look that afternoon, and had "FOODIE" friends not recommended, we may have cancelled, the first floor is not very inviting, friends said to ask for a table upstairs and by a window, which we did. this was a very good surprise, good food, wine and service. would return.
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Cozy Rustic Euro Yum
Came here for brunch and hating having to narrow down our selections. The zucchini pancake was outrageously light and yummy; so glad the folks at the next table (and then our server) recommended it. The monte christo left no room for bing cherry beignets (with choc dipping sauce) - must make a return visit! The full-flavored bellinis (peach and strawberry) were made with fresh fruit.
The interior is cozy, very rustic and the tables by the window, where we sat, allowed for easy conversation with the neighboring tables. It doesn't look to be very handicap friendly, with mostly bar seating on the landing floor. A broad staircase takes you to the tables upstairs. Waiters speak native French, adding to the French bistro hideaway atmosphere.
9/28/2013 5:00:00 PM
What a find! It's a small place with great food and a terrific staff. Portions are on the small side, but you don't go away hungry and it leaves room for dessert :). Try the bacon fougasse for appetizer. Delicious.

Small but mighty good
We had a pre-theater dinner at this innovative little spot. The food was very good - more California then French and more high caliber then one would expect. The menu is compact with fresh, local ingredients. The service is terrific. They are very professional yet welcoming. There was a minor mix up with our order and they took care of it with grace and aplomb - the true test of service. The arugula salad with peas and soft boiled egg was excellent - a modern variation on the classic Lyonnais. The vegetable napoleon entrée was another standout. We had a table upstairs which was very comfortable. Downstairs space is more limited and mostly counter seating. This is a quaint and quirky venue with top notch cuisine and excellent service.
10/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
Small but Excellent
They only have 3 dozen covers with bar style seating downstairs and 7 tables upstairs. Need reservation. Excellent wine list with many of the lesser known French appellations included. Menus change frequently but it is always interesting to see what comes out of a kitchen smaller than most home kitchens.
Definitely French cuisine influenced by what is fresh and locally available. Well worth the trip there, not to far from Union Square, this was our second visit and we will return.
10/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Intimate city centre gem
Despite its central location just off Union Square, Bouche retains an intimate, romantic ambience. The restaurant is beautifully decorated; the staff are friendly, yet professional; the wine list is small, yet perfectly formed; but the food is the star. Delicious, innovative cooking informed by, but not shackled to, classic French cuisine. Every dish was a delight. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to even the most exacting of foodie types!

Great pre-play dinner spot,
We are always looking for a new place to eat before our play. Found this on Open Table and decided to give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised. The food was really good as was the wine.
10/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
A perfect little bite
This place is a gem. It is small in size and big in heart. The food is outstanding and the wines are handpicked old world French in style. I will come back again and again.
10/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Seated us instantly.waiter helpful with mostly French wine list. Really delicious food ,french feeling place. Will return.
10/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Tiny spot, great food
Went to brunch at Bouche with my mother recently. Apparently the restaurant was slower than usual when we went so not sure how it would be filled to the brim. Food was slightly different from the usual brunch fare which was refreshing, and the flavors were top notch. Only detraction was the how dark and slightly claustrophobic the upstairs was, but this wouldn't deter me from coming back.
10/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had a late-night dinner after a movie, for a birthday celebration - perfect. Delicious. Will definitely go again if I have the chance.
10/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
The whole experience was wonderful the employees were polite and very hospitable also the food was to die for. It was a wonderful environment with a great energy about it. I will definitely be going back and referring the restaurant to many people.

Interesting little spot
Picked this as the place to celebrate our anniversary based on OpenTable reviews. It wasn't what I expected but it quite good. Our server, Julie, seemed to be everywhere doing everything but she never forgot us. Seating is cramped-we had to get up to allow the table next to us to leave. Dinner was flavorful and well portioned.

Small French Find
Small little restaurant with tables on the 2nd floor and bar seating on the first floor. Very French, great romantic atmosphere, very tasty food. Don't skip the butternut soup, it's to die for! The brussel sprouts were fantastic, the mushrooms and beef tartare very good. I liked but didn't love the duck confit croquants. The waitress recommended a wonderful wine based on my taste preferences, very knowledgable about her wine list. We would definitely go back.
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
The decoration made me feel
The decoration made me feel very relaxing, and so it is certainly a good place to have a relaxing weekend lunch.
The foods are tasty and interesting. Hard to describe but should try out :)

Restaurant with Character
Finally some inventive french food, which shows some creativity and goes beyond what one usually sees at french places. The staff is very nice and its always a pleasure going back.
11/11/2013 4:00:00 PM
We'll be back!
We don't recall how we chose to have brunch at Bouche, but we were delighted that we did! We thoroughly enjoyed a wonderful, inventive, beautifully prepared brunch and look forward to eating other meals there soon.
11/16/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great french restaurant
Great french food! It is a very small restaurant with most tables only sitting 2 people. We were a party of 3 and everyone had a hard time getting around our table. We each had a different dish and loved every bite. Side dishes were also good. Only disappointment was the size of the restaurant.
11/19/2013 4:00:00 PM
My new honeyhole!
I work as a chef so this place fits me great. They serve California French, open kitchen, late night dining, and great pours of French Wines by the glass. Happy as a clam!
11/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
Treated my foodie husband to a birthday dinner at Bouche. (He'd treated me to an anniversary dinner at Quince a few nights before. I couldn't afford to be so lavish and wanted a meal that would satisfy his sophisticated palate in a more relaxed way.) I'd previously had lunch at Bouche and was impressed with the food. The dinner menu did not disappoint. The service was very good, prompt, helpful, unfussy. Everything about the place is intimately scaled. Just a few tables, a minuscule kitchen, a modest sized menu. Not a showy environment but one for people who appreciate savory food, a casual atmosphere and rustic decor--including an amazing boar's head. And, at least on weekends, the kitchen stays open late.
11/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
Never a disappointment
My husband and I dine here often and are never disappointed. Highly recommend the Crab Mashed Potatoes!
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
Perfect Service, great composition of flavors in delicious menues, made with passion!
I had the lamb with a honey-citrus sauce and a couscous-pomgranade mix.
