We visited Gabardine on Sunday for the brunch; Lindsay was our server and she made our Sunday into a fabulous event. Excellent customer service which was topped off by some amahzing dishes...we had the caprese with the powdered olive oil which was so divine and that transitioned into the pork chop with cheesy grits and eggs; wow, this dish was so good. We finished off with the Pt.Loma French Toast am I am still reeling from the flavors of cinnamon, cream cheese, and the most delictable maple syrup I have ever had. The bottomless mimosas were alittle on the warm flat side, and we had to find a chair that was not totally uncomfortable, but everything else, including the Tahitian Tea was really fabulous!

Our first but not last visit.
Our first but not last visit. Waiter was more than willing to modify first course and the fish of the day was great but slightly on the skimpy side. Overall quite enjoyable.

We come to Gabardine all the
We come to Gabardine all the time. It's our favorite local spot for non-pretentious fine dining and seafood. This was our first time there for brunch, and it was just as amazing as the dinners we always enjoy.

Very good food and very good
Very good food and very good service every time I go.

We enjoyed the Thursday evening
We enjoyed the Thursday evening Shellfish Feast very much. Everything was great... a tad noisy.
4/24/2013 4:00:00 PM
First time trying out for brunch. The shell fish dish was great. Mussels and clams were so big and plump and fresh. We were full otherwise would order bread to soap up the juice!
The fish and chips were outstanding. Fresh cod and batter was exquisite. Fries with truffle well done ....can't stop eating !
The crab omelette was nothing exciting/special.
5/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
This was a return visit. We liked it so much the first time and wanted to see if they retained the standards they had set for our mouths and our minds. Indeed they have. Had we known that Tuesdays were also 59% off on selected (very good) wines, we might have come back even sooner. Well done Gabardine.

Mother Day Dinner
Service was very good when we kept adding appetizers and different soft drinks. Very respectful and kind. The perfect amount of attention to our needs. Didn't interrupt all the time but kept our water glasses full. Shrimp and grits great!

Gab Bar Dine
Three generations of ladies for Mother's Day brunch. It was a beautiful day made even better by Gabardine. The endless Mimosa's are incredible and had us all gabbing away. We had a fantastic time and everything was delicious. My oldest daughter who has been drawn by the culinary arts for some time, was ecstatic to see that Brian Malarkey is the chef and that he was there.

Great Tuesday Night Dinner
What a nice surprise! Met a girlfriend for dinner and was greeting by a wonderful server, Pilar, and had an outstanding experience. Half price wine on Tuesdays too. We shared a fresh green and grapefruit salad, scallops, entre with lobster side with truffle fries - YUM.
We chatted for 2 hours, never felt rushed or uncomfortable. Definitely will go again! Have been to both Seersucker and Herringbone - love Gabardine!
5/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
Gabardine is excellent--
My only objection is the $2 charge for what turned out to be dry pieces of toast. Prices are quite high at Gabardine, and I think that the bread should be complementary. The food was quite delicious, of course. We had lobster and bisque and the lobster/potato/clam special last Thursday evening. A delightful dinner.
5/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
The GM, Lindsay helped me and she was great!!! Good portion size! great ambiance!

A tremendous dining experience.
A tremendous dining experience. Great food, great service and very reasonable prices. Very highly recommended.
5/24/2013 4:00:00 PM
It was a girls night out. Service was great. Everyone very friendly and accommodating. We like a leisurely dinner with lots of conversation. We were never rushed. Great deal on wine the night we went. Only problem they ran out of the wine we were drinking. But not to fear we found another that was even better Price and quality of the food was excellent. Love it .. Will be back.

Almond Sticky Bun
You simply must try it. I assure you it is worth the calories. Then the Crab Omelet. You will not be disappointed. Our server was very friendly and attentive.

Fun brunch menu. Had my daughter
Fun brunch menu. Had my daughter in a carseat & hostess & waiter were very accommodating. 2 blocks away from small farmers market on Sundays. Cute place to go for a relaxing meal.
6/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Bottomless mimosas for $10? I'm there! I had a deal from NBC-The Goods-$20 for $40. It made for a great value. I had the crab omelet which was excellent-very fresh and sweet crab. The potatoes on the side were perfectly cooked and it was a good portion for the price. We met the sous chef and he gave us a sticky bun on the house=)I live in the East County so it isn't exactly convenient, but I would definitely dine here again.

Sam did his usual great job
Sam did his usual great job of making us feel at home. The staff is a great part of the reason we return, they are so friendly and great at their jobs. Which of course is serving great food. We started with the Mushroom Sauté, very good and a good portion for two. I had the Baquetta bass and it was delicious and my sister had the burger with avocado and jalapeños and it was very good.
6/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Another fine dining experience
We enjoy returning here and dining here. The tomato salad was divine, the oysters fresh, tasty and just the right chewiness, the carafe sizes of their wines made a two wine dinner experience delightful. We enjoy thi place so much more than the overcrowded Herringbone.
6/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Just a great experience. The food was terrific, beautifully presented, staff was friendly and knowledgable. It's a small restaurant, which I prefer, noise level made conversation with dinner guests pleasant. Gabardine will be remembered when we next visit San Diego.
6/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food here is amazing. I love the ambience was perfect. I had the summer ragout, which was delicious. My wife had the fruits des mar, which was also outstanding. We will absolutely be coming back to this restaurant.

Good brunch with no crowd
We went for the Sunday Brunch which just happened to be on Father's Day. We had reservations and were seated immediately, but it did not appear we needed them. Very good attentive service. Not a huge selection, but what we had was very good. Started with endless mimosas and a bloody mary which were pretty good. Doughnut holes with dipping sauces to share. Warm, but not too filling to follow with the main meal. We had the special Phili Cheesesteak Omelets, very tender filet mignon and Crab Omelets. Had the truffle fries instead of cottage potatoes. Not a problem with our server to substitute. Would like to go back for Happy Hour and dinner now. Not a big place and very casual with easy parking. We would recommend this restaurant.
6/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Pretty casual neighborhood
Pretty casual neighborhood spot, great food, with some creative options. The mussels broth was most flavorful I've had in a while. There was an error in expediting and we got someone else's order with chorizo, but the kitchen happily remedied the error and offered to take it off the bill. Ratatouille was very different from any i had before (with fresh mozzarella.) but delicious. Staff was friendly, but our server was a bit flaky (CA girl?). The drinks were delicious as well. Overall, fun experience. Will definitely return next time we are in town.
6/17/2013 4:00:00 PM
Simple, affordable and delicious
We ate at Gabardine early (before a Doobie Brothers concert!) so it was quiet, in fact, almost empty. The menu is simple but adequate with a range of options from small plates to full ones. The fish and chips was a huge serving but very good and the tacos for $10 were terrific! Our friend loved the baquetta and the wine list was good with options from affordable to expensive. This is a real find if you want to take the time to locate it deep in the roads of Point Loma.
6/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Simply excellent AND cool!
It is difficult to decide which was the best; the beverages, the appetizers, or the entree.....but maybe it was the donut dessert? Three words: jalapeño-infused tequila......amazing....then the shrimp and grits? Fuggetaboutit.......Brussels sprouts with Gorgonzola and bacon? Killer! Chorizo sauced mussels and clams? Wowee-wow-wow! I live north of the city and east of 15, and this is so worth the trip!
6/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
We went for Sunday brunch with another couple and our respective kiddos. The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly with the kids. The only negative was the wait time for our food. But that said, once the food came it was so DELICIOUS that we immediately forgot about the wait time. The food was well worth the wait. And the hibiscus mimosas are out of this world!
We live in downtown and regularly dine at Searsucker so I was very anxious to try The Gabardine. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others.
6/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
This restaurant is quickly becoming our go-to place for Friday dinners. Mercifully under-crowded and always ready to seat us at the reserved hour, we find their menu highly enjoyable with the food graciously and meticulously presented from their very creative kitchen. The wines by the half-liter are well priced to enjoy.
6/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
An Unexpected Delight
This was my first visit to this restaurant. I brought a party of 5 for a special birthday event. Everyone enjoyed their drinks, their food and the ambiance was casual and easy. Our waiter was sufficiently attentive he made the Birthday girl feel special and a good time was had by all.

The return to Gabardine
Originally when my husband and I dined at Garbadine, it was dissapointing. They had just opened, and it just did not meet up to the "Malarkey" reputation. We have returned for brunch on two occasions, and dinner July 4th weekend. The service, food and ambience were all outstanding. Our server was pleasant, attentive, and very knowledgable on each dish, and the ingredients. Took some friends here who are fans of Brian Malarkey. They were very impressed. This is a neighborhood resaturant for us that we plan to return to, either for brunch or dinner. The brunch is imaginative, and delicious. Nothing to way out, but brunch favorites done in an exceptional way. Looking forward to another visit to this gem.

Nice Light Fare for Sunday Brunch
Small menu and well proportioned food that leaves you feeling satisfied but not overfed. I had the Gabby Cheese Steak Omelet which was tasty but could have used some hot sauce. I was not offered any condiments so I assumed there were none only to overhead another waiter offer other guests hot sauce after I had finished. My husband had the Pork n Eggs, which he found very well cooked and satisfying. His only comment was that it would have been perfect if there was another egg specifically for eating the grits. I actually wanted lunch; however the lunch options were very few and not exciting so I opted for breakfast.
7/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Went with just the kids. Had a good time. Service was excellent until had to wait for bill. Descriptions of food on menu, such as Caesar salad not what I expected when I ordered. Good nonetheless. Staff was awesome with kids . Wil return, hopefully with husband for date night
7/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Everything is cooked and plated to perfection. The flavors are to die for. A really great meal ! We loved every bit of it.
7/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Remains very enjoyable and dependab
We have enjoyed returning here regularly for a nice relaxing tasty dinner for several months and our last visit remains the same.
7/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Where's the sticky bun?
After going here a few times and having the sticky bun as the dessert prior to brunch, we had the mini donut holes. They were good, just not as much as the amazing sticky bun. I had the crab omelet and my friend had the shrimp & grits, both our plates were licked clean. Attentive server and staff. This place does not disappoint.

The "IN" Place
Gabardines is just right!! Casual but a flirt of dressy. Great and unique food choices. Brussel Sprouts from Heaven!!

We were visiting the area
We were visiting the area and came upon Gabardine via Open Table. We were very happy with selecting Gabardine as our place for dinner. Open side wall allowed for the great feel of the sun and the beauty of the day. Drinks were great, food as well. Service was gracious.

Awesome Neighborhood Gem!
I love Gabardine! Of all the Brian Malarkey restaurants, this is definitely the most low key, but then again it's an awesome perk! You get great food, in a low key environment. No need to get dolled up to go to brunch or dinner!
8/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Brian Malarkey has made some excellent changes to the menu and his staff can explain them in detail The service we received Saturday was excellent. I had the pork tenderloin and it was very tender and juicy and quite flavorful. My sister had the spicy shrimp and avocado salad and said it was delicious. Sam was our server and was a very informative gentleman.
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Another great night at Gabardine!
It's always an experience at Gabradine! We had a little of everything, small and big plates, all based on the expert advice of the staff and it was a great to see Bryan and his family there!
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
My husband and I went to Gabardine during restaurant week. We both had the fried brussel sprouts (awesome! We order brussel sprouts every time we see them and these are some of the best we've had), I had the pork tenderloin with peaches, and my husband had the steak that had a cinnamon-y potato "flake" on top. After wondering to each other what made our dishes so tasty, we came to the conclusion that it's the excellent quality of the meat and proper use of marinating and seasoning. Such delicious entrees! I was disappointed by the dessert offerings on the restaurant week menu (the only thing even remotely chocolate-y was the chocolate chip cookie my husband had with milk - yes, they serve milk and cookies on the regular menu. Strange, no?)

Food is always good here.
Food is always good here. A view would make it perfect. Great neighborhood restaurant.

My 1st choice in Pt. Loma
My wife and I love Gabardine. The staff is friendly and do a great job in helping us decide what to order. Not once have we been dissapointed with a recomendation!

Delicious Seafood Excellent Service
We had a 7:30 reservation on a Friday night and were seated right away.
Parking is on the street or in a few spots in the lot behind the building.
The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and professional.
Drinks were great, I had the mule and hubs had a jalepeno infused tequila.
We shared oysters which were fresh and delicious, and the most amazing Brussel Sprouts I've ever had. Lobster Mac and cheese did not skimp on the lobster at all and was surprisingly light for such a heavy sounding dish. Shrimp and grits were creamy abd amazing. My only complaint is that I wish the cookies in the ice cream sandwich were freshly baked so they would be warm and chewy instead of hard and crunchy.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
I've been wanting to try this
I've been wanting to try this place out for a while so brunch sounded perfect! The place is really cute - it's open and bright - the service was great and the food was fantastic. I had the shrimp and grits, which was phenomenal and my friends loved their omelets, especially the crab one! It is a great place for brunch! I will definitely be going back.

Dinner at Gabardine
The decor is fun and eclectic. The service was excellent and our server was helpful with his recommendations. My friend and I split the scallop special and it was very good! The food and drinks are well priced; I think they've dropped the prices from when they first opened? We went on a Tuesday and it was pretty quiet which is what we were looking for. Last time I went on a Friday and sat at the bar which is quite lively but fun if you are in the mood for that! I will definitely go back.
10/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Double Date spot
We went for a double date an had a good time. The service was fantastic and the ambiance was fun but not too loud. The food was good. We would go back.

Low-key and good finger foods.
Malarkey's Point Loma restaurant is a simple mix of classy industrial decor and populist seaside cuisine. A relaxing meeting point on the quiet South end of Rosecrans near Talbot, Gabardine is named after the shirts fisherman would wear at sea. The menu is bacon laced and fish centered but holds enough variety to please everyone. It moves from Southern shrimp and grits to Mexican deep fried whole fish. Sweet potato fries and bacon broiled Brussel sprouts call out to the younger crowd palate while a collection of salads entice the older adventurer. Fun wine and bar favorites round out the tasty plates.
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
Had the pork tenderloin. I'm not the biggest fan of pork, but this was outstanding! Service was friendly and the drinks were great, as always.
