My wife and I were trying to decide where to go to dinner when we stumbled upon Petite Jacqueline; We had heard about the James Beard award nomination and decided to book a table to see for ourselves what the buzz was about. We were warmly greeted upon entering by Michael and were quickly seated. The menu, wine list, and cocktails were all very well put together and showed depth. We had a bottle of the Chanteleuserie Cab Franc and Ashley had the olives into the Red Snapper special and I had the Moelle into the Pork Chop. I have to say that we were both truly floored by how well the food was prepared - perfectly cooked, seasoned, and absolutely delicious. Outstanding Food & Service Thank You for a memorable meal and we will see you soon.

We were one of the first tables but the waiter was super helpful with explanations and recommendations - really felt well taken care of!

Petit Jacqueline is a Grand Experie
Simple appointments, dimly lit, well executed service and delicious food.

Another excellent meal!
I so wish this restaurant was closer to my home. Service was friendly but very professional, wines well chosen and fairly priced, and the food authentically French and delicious. I hope we'll be able to return soon.

My sister and I brought my mother out for her birthday. The two of them had been to Petite Jacqueline for lunch when they were introduced to the addictive and peerless Standard Baking Co. by way of PJ's baguettes, which are brought to the table warm, and refreshed as needed. (The way to our hearts is through a toothsome crust.) The ambiance seemed accessible, free of pretension, though the quality of our food would have excused any airs. I suppose it's not "Portland," to wear your talent on your tablecloth, but I'm from NYC. The poisson meunière was grey sole, grilled to astonishing perfection; the mussels, soup de jour (leek watercress heaven) and every other morsel that passed our lips was delightful. Wonderful place, peerless service.

Loved loved loved the queue de boeuf. Rich and flavorful. I could eat it all day!. Everything was super yummy. Service was excellent! Waitstaff really helpful and pleasant. Noise level a bit high, but otherwise a wonderful evening.

A little touch of Paris in Maine
Loved this place. We were apprehensive as we don't like pate, duck and the like. They had lots of great options. We had the steak frittes, gruyere burger and onion soup. Loved the crusty loaf of bread you just tear with your hands. The BEST manhattan cocktail of our lives. Service was wonderful-from the bar to the server. It was very busy (we had an 8:30 pm reservation) and weren't seated until almost 9 pm. They comped our first manhattans because of wait but we just took a seat at the bar and enjoyed the ambiance. Will definitely go back and might even get a little more adventurous into the really French cuisine.

Surprisingly good value -
Surprisingly good value - excellent and varied menu at reasonable price. Deserves its reputation.
6/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had a fantastic meal, it was hard to chose what to get since everything on the menu looks fabulous. Waitress was funny and very helpful.

felt like we were in Paris!
Such a lovely experience. Nice wine list, great starters - and terrific mains. Plenty to please traditionalists and foodies alike.

A touch of Paris
....in the heart of the West End! Associated French meals, very French/Parisian bistro look, in particular the black board listing the week menu starting on Monday. For a Parisian born, it is a nice treat to be transported, for the duration if a meal, back in France and savor the delicious food that trigger fine memories like Proust's madeleines.

classy choice for ladies night out
Nice Cosy Place. Good Food. Wish Weather Would Have Been Nicer As I Would Have Loved To Dine Outside.

Everything we ordered was great! Will definitely go back again the next time we visit Portland.

A little bit of France in Portland
Perfect from start to finish. We were seated immediately upon arrival (with reservations). Started with a cheese plate (delice) -absolutely fabulous - recommended by our server. We followed that with a salad and mushroom/onion tart. OMG the tart was unbelievable! IF we had known we would have ordered two or three. We both had the skate wing fish which was absolutely fresh, mild and moist. For desert we had the strawberry crepe and I wish I had also ordered the chocolate pot de creme. Service was flawless and the server was very knowledgable on the menu and wines. Atmosphere was like a neighborhood bistro - just as you would want it. not too dressy, not too noisy (but not too quiet either). Just perfect!

Good meeting place for friends
Casual atmosphere gives it the feel of a neighborhood gathering place. Friendly service and great food. Loved the purslane and peach salad.

Wonderful luncheon experience
Traveling through Maine on vacation, we met friends from Boston here and shared a 2.5 hr. lunch together. Great wine & food options. Server let us take our time to enjoy our visit and dine on delicious food and wine. Dessert was a perfect cap to our special time together. Highly recommend Petite Jacqueline!

I have been to this restaurant
I have been to this restaurant several times and the food is amazing. This time, however, we had a 7:45 reservation and we were not seated until 8:10. There was no room at the bar so would stood outside. When we were seated the table seemed meant for 2 not 4 people so we felt very crowded during dinner. Our server, Anica, helped us forget the table size with her great service and the food was, as always wonderful.

A perfect little French bistro in Portland's West End. I had the cod, which was flaky, slightly crunchy, and well-flavored. My husband had the onion soup & skirt steak, which he practically inhaled, pronouncing them delicious. For dessert: fresh fruit tart. Will definitely return & recommend to friends.
8/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
classics good and simple
Lunch was truly a treat - starting with fine appetizers (soup du jour and a rich pate), an excellent Corbieres, and finishing with crepes suzette that was as orange-y as you could wish for.
I'd go again any day.

Could be Paris!
The food and service were outstanding...we were outside and lingered there
for a leisurely delicious evening! I am so thankful for Petite Jacqueline!
8/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent food at affordable prices, with an intimate feel of having a superb dinner in your family's table. Great ambiance and extremely attentive staff. A gem!
8/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good bistro atmosphere
Menu is limited (and this is not a bad thing), good preparations. Steak-frites is great, lots of fries. Apps are more interesting than the main dish. Good selection of cheeses. Wine selection all French, good, and prices very reasonable.
8/8/2013 5:00:00 PM
Just plain enjoyable
Comfortably seated and very competently attended by a friendly and knowledgable waitress, we dined well. It was not cheap, but given the overall level of the food and experience, the check was quite reasonable. The only caveat concerned the dessert, an unremarkable peach and blueberry tart that lacked distinctive or memorable taste. The wine-- a widely admired rosé-- was served in generous portions.
8/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
We both had the steak .... Flat iron that night, it was delicious, cooked correct and very tender as it should be, being the second most tender muscle on the animal. The charcuterie was outstanding as well.
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Sat night @ Petite Jacqueline
My wife and I had never been to Petite until we went there with out of town guests on a recent Saturday night. Had heard a lot of good things about this restaurant and were not disappointed. Had a quick drink at the bar before we were seated. Service was efficient and attentive. I would give the French bistro style food an A-, although I can't really point out specific deficiencies. Ambience was good...although noise levels on a busy Saturday night were predictably high. I liked the wine list...many good bottles in the $30 range, although there was certainly more expensive stuff too. Also good options by the glass. All in all, a nice night out.
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
A bit surprised, is all
My husband and I had dinner here last night. Everything was good (as usual) - we had a cucumber soup, mushroom tart, oysters on the half shell, lobster risotto and a burger (!). Service was attentive and friendly. Only one small nitpick - I had made a point of letting the restaurant know it was our 10th anniversary, but no one said congratulations or anything else about it to us. Just seemed a bit of an oversight for a place that usually goes the extra mile for us. Oh, well!
8/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Coq au Vin was outstanding
My husband had the coq au vin and it was very good. I had the risotto with lobster which was cooked perfectly but a little too salty for my taste. Our waitress was really nice and did a great job (just wish I could remember her name!). Nice spot. I'd like to return in the winter when I can try the onion soup!

A must visit on a trip to Portland
Every summer we go to Kennebunkport and we always schedule a trip to Portland to go to Petite Jacquline
8/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food, uncomfortable chairs
Five of us dined at Petite Jacqueline. The food was superb and reasonable considering the quality and the fact that its in Portland which is home to some pricey restaurants! The waiter was attentive and helpful without being in the way. The prefixe was a great deal..$30 for 3 courses. The only negative if it could be called that were the bistro chairs which were very uncomfortable. They were hard metal bistro chairs which fit in with the decor but were too hard and cold. Other than that, I would definitely dine there again.
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
We enjoyed everything
We went to La Petite Jacqueline. We were a party of four. Everything was delicious. Salad was fresh and tasty. The chicken was very very good. Dessert ( a chocolate mousse) was a sweet finish. Go there and you will not really not be disppointed.

My Favorite Restaurant In Town
Since they've opened, PETITE JACQUELINE has yet to disappoint me in any way (food, service, ambiance), really making it my favorite restaurant in Portland! This time, we tried their Sunday brunch. We had reservations (I'd say to always make reservations there!) but the place was surprisingly empty -- perhaps because of the long holiday weekend? Anyway, we still enjoyed a great meal -- hot coffee, strong mimosas & bloody marys -- plus the roasted corn, sage & goats cheese omelette special served with lightly dressed salad, an intensely rich cube of croque madame, and hearty "meat & potatoes" dish of two eggs & house hash. We left full but not uncomfortably stuffed. A fabulous start to the day! I can't wait to go back and try other dishes.
9/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
One of our favorite places to eat. Everything is really well done. Only issue we would have on our last evening there is it can get a bit loud sometimes. Maybe just the sign of folks enjoying their meal. Anyway wouldn't stop us going back again and again.
9/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
lovely venue .. food was delicious
lovely venue .. food was delicious and service was wonderful!
The restuarant was not aware however that I had booked a table for 2 for lunch... luckily the restaurant was not packed so we were seated immediately... but the fact that I took the time to book the table did not help us at all upon arrival.

Paris Cafe Feel
Petite Jacqueline is everything you want in a French cafe. The food is delicious and authentic to its roots, but unpretentious and served in an understated way. Simplicity is a prime virtue here. The service is pleasant and helpful but unobtrusive. One doesn't feel rushed and that allows you to unwind and enjoy the food and conversation. Dig deep into the cheeses here--they have a great list. The classic cafe dishes are great too: we loved the onion soup, which had a deep almost earthy flavor of carmalized onions simmered for a long time. I didn't love the croque monsieur, but the steak frites is great. The main point is that Petite Jacqueline feels like a neighborhood cafe in Paris. If that's what you're after you will be pleased.

A very good very enjoyable meal. Server was great. Food was top notch. Very good cocktails.

great choice among many in the area
Longfellow square has some great spots for dining. Petite Jacqueline is definitely one of them. From apps to dessert everything waswonderful. Definitely recommended!

I brought my sister to celebrated a special occasion and chose this restaurant because I had had a great experience previously. Our waiter was perfect. Timing of food ideal and every course was delicious. I'd go back for the mussels alone! Highly recommend

Not to be missed
Upon a recommendation of a local resident we had dinner at P.J. Outstanding food in the appropriate bistro style. Small menu but broad in its appeal. Wine list just what you would want for the food being offered and, as restaurant wine lists go, reasonable.

What a great neighborhood
What a great neighborhood find! A very cool, hip, vibrant bistro with really good food and friendly and efficient service. The clientele appeared to be experienced foodies with sophisticated palates and manners. The ambience was energetic yet relaxed, bustling but not rushed, intimate with the sense of being part of a dining community.
Big kudos to everyone ..a job really well done.

Nice restaurant in Portland
We had a pleasant moment at this restaurant. I recommend the chicken : crispy, buttery-flavored skin, tender and tasty meat.
Nice little cozy neighborhood restaurant.
10/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
great little restaurant
great little restaurant right around the corner from our B& B (The Percy Inn) ... the food was outstanding ... can be a bit noisy (some people like this) but it wasn't overpowering ... service was great ... enjoyed nice red wine recommended by our waitress ... not inexpensive, but prices were very reasonable and good value ... we'd go back with no hesitation ... an extremely nice restaurant
10/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Interesting menu, great service.
Interesting menu, great service. There was a group of 12 at the bar which then moved to a table which was very noisy. It's a small space, so the loud group impacted all of us.
10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Back for another great meal.
We traveled from Nova Scotia to Maine recently and had to go back to Petite Jacqueline as we remembered it well from last fall. What a great meal we had! Super service, fine food and a wonderful evening.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had a very nice dinner. I had the prix fixe, which included a salad, steak frites, and creme brûlée. It was delicious. This place feels like a small bistro in New York, with some outdoor seating on a busy corner. This detracts a bit from the dining experience, so we sat indoors.
10/31/2013 5:00:00 PM
Always a treat
We come here frequently and enjoy the sophisticated ambiance as well as the terrific menu. Our last visit was on a
Sunday evening, and while I made a reservation, none was needed. Cozy, corner window seating, attentive staff,
interesting drinks (try the Monet's Muse) and a delicious meal: a foodies dream! Portions are typically generous and becuase we weren't super hungry, we enjoyed /shared a delicious creamy carrot soup, crusty french bread, house greens (incredible vinergrette) the French attitude burger (OMG) and a lovey creme brulee for dessert. I was stuffed when I left and very happy! Highly recommended!!

True bistro food and ambience
The food was excellent -- transporting one to a paris bistro. the staff was friendly, accommodating and efficient. An elegant and fun experience. Wonderful cocktails. Only drawback -- the menu is a little limited.
11/20/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great dining experience
I met a friend from NYC for dinner. It was a lovely dinner, both of us ordered appetizers that struck us as unusual (bone marrow and fricasse de escargots) and loved them. Our entrees were delicious (the Thursday night special was shoulder of lamb) and we each had dessert, unusual for us! We were there early which suited us as it filled up quickly between 6 and 7.
11/20/2013 4:00:00 PM
As always, La Petite Jacqueline is top notch..... Perfect Burger - Tasty, Fresh, Local..... and yum Fries.
11/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
A real treat
Really enjoyed this meal, service was excellent. I had the 'Attitude' burger, and I think it was one of the best I've had. Frites were perfect! L'Escargot were great. My wife had the beef bourginon, and while she loved it, we agreed the burger won the night. Will definitely go back.
