We sat in a small booth away
We sat in a small booth away from the main dining area so it was very quiet . The main dining area was loud but seemed like a fun atmosphere. Would be great for brunch. Guacamole was great as was the spicy margarita .

Best Mexican Food in Dallas
Mesa is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Dallas, by a long shot. A group of 4 of us had a wonderful meal last night. Don't be thrown by the "Coastal" in the name--no one at our table had seafood (I have had the ceviche before, and it's terrific), because the mole is fantastic, the citrus pulled pork dish I had was delicious, and the carne asada the best I have ever tasted. The service was a beat slow last night, but everyone working was attentive, good-spirited and helpful.

Gem of a Find
The welcome was warm & friendly. We got seated right away. We had margarita drinks and beer and both were excellent. We both had the Lobster Enchilada dish which was wonderful and the jasmine flavored rice was to die for tasty! I recommend this place. Was not noise or filled with loud music so you could easily talk. The waiters were very attentive and helpful. I will go back for sure, soon!

Started with the Ceviche- plenty of chunky fish, great flavor - maybe a tad too sweet. Homemade chips were thick and crispy. The Cochinita Pibil Slow pork dish with side of jasmine rice, black beans and escabeche was well cooked and tasty- again a bit too sweet for our tastes , but very well done. The Guiso del Rey Seafood combination with jalapeños, mussels, clams, octopus, and shrimp. Cooked with Brandy and house chardonnay was perfect ! Don't change this dish! The house Margarita is strong and has a spicy kick- very nice touch. Will be back !

Definitely was a great experience. Would definitely visit again. And will be recommending it to friends and family.

My new favorite restaurant
The four of us each ordered something different so we could try as many dishes as possible. Except for the rice pudding, everything impressed. I can't wait to go again.

I cannot even conceive of someone sayingthe food here is not good. My husband and I are huge foodies and this is one of our favorite hidden gems in Dallas. I have been wanting to try the brunch too, but we have small children and have not made our way out there. Great bar menu and the sampler platter is amazing. I dream about the cheese stuffed plaintains :) The mole (which I have never liked before) is ridiculously delicious. The mole chicken enchiladas are just yummy! The only thing on the entire menu I did not like were the desserts. They were not bad, just not amazing....

This place is fantastic. The mole sauce is unbelievable, you could drink it with a straw. Owner Raul Reyes is from Alvarado, Veracruz and took the time to talk with us about the interesting history behind some of their homemade recipes. One of my favorite places in Dallas.

Mesa rocks on
Our third visit over a year. The food was outstanding, service fine, unobtrusive. Drinks were very good. We will definitely be back. Do not be deterred by the location on a very "ethnic" street. The cuisine is as authentic as the neighborhood. It sure beats the heck out of white tablecloth restaurants in the Park Cities with overpriced food that cater to a spoiled clientele with indiscriminate palates.

I didnt know what to expect, it was the first time for me and my friend to try this place (we do this often) and we were both not disappointed whatsoever. The Ceviche appetizer was fresh, my entree was DELICIOUS. The white rice i believe its jasmine rice compliments the food. Our waiter was great, attentive and well knowledgeable about the menu. He told us about the brunch, their specialty drinks and their patio area. I would definitely be returning to try more items off their menu.

Food was great. I had the shrimp, and the mole sauce was just the right amount of hot. The chairs we stiff and too upright, very uncomfortable. Our waiter could not get our drink orders right. He came back several times with we don't have this, and we don't have that. It's a nice family owned and run restaurant, but hiring the clueless nephew (or whatever) is not a good idea. I will definitely go back and give the staff a second chance, cause the food is so fresh and delicious.

Another Oak Cliff Gem
Can't say enough about this great place to eat! Food was excellent, All four of us had the Mole Chicken because we had heard so much about it! The Mole was extra special matching some of the best in LA! Chicken was tender, fell off the bone and most flavorful. The rice was delightfully tasteful. Drinks were unique and good. We are taking friends back again next week.

Everything about this place was good; the food, the service, the environment. We definitely had a fun time and have already recommended this place to several friends.

Super delicious lobster encheladas,
Super delicious lobster encheladas, shrimp civeche and melt-on-your mouth tres leches desert. Don't let the neighborhood fool you, it's super good and on the pricier side of moderate.

Great place, don't really
Great place, don't really like the back portion of the restaurant, the front is much more intimate....

Happy we came here
Red Snapper was nicely seared, served over a bed of chard, rice and a slightly spicy, tangy sauce with olives, tomatoes, onions, capers...exceptional. Others in our group had the pork, also very nice, jicama salad, enmolados (also exceptional - their mole is really good, maybe a little on the sweet side but not too much), guac. Good bar and acceptable wine list.

I took my mom here who was in town for the weekend. I had heard great reviews about Mesa and wanted to take my mom somewhere she hadn't been before. We both ordered the lobster enchiladas, and they were to die for! Plenty of food for one person, but we both cleared our plates because they were so good we didn't want to leave anything.
They had some great looking cocktails that I will go back and try soon.

Fabulous food, great atmosphere!
Found Mesa through Trip Advisor, and it was so easy to make a last minute ressie through Open Table. My sister "won" the ordering contest with the Chicken Mole Enchiladas. So delish. The atmosphere was lively, and a bit local, which we love. Thanks for a great evening.

A gem in the neighborhood
This quaint little gem is hidden behind a questionable facade but was definitely worth the derive from downtown Dallas. From the ceviche to all our entrees, the food was authentic and delicious with the unusual twist that makes it memorable!

Incredible food, relative bargain
Mesa is one of the most highly reviewed and rated restaurants in the DFW metroplex, and those reviews are earned and then some. This is some of the most earnest, high-quality, unfussy, unique food in the city. The chefs' heart comes through on every dish. The mole is the best I've ever had. One of the chefs came out to greet everyone at each table and ask how the food was, which I always find to be a nice touch. Finally, the menu could easily tack on $10-15 to each menu item and the food would still be worth it - at the current prices, I think it's a bargain!

Authentic VeraCruzano Food
The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. We enjoyed the bar. The Mole Enchiladas were very good. Definitely a neighborhood gem. I would definitely go back.

I didn't know what to expect since i got different reviews as many negatives as positives. When we arrived I was even more worried because of location. But as soon as I stepped in and was greeted and asked if we had a reservation which I did I knew that this was going to be a good experience. The people in the restaurant were sophisticated and you knew that they were there for the good food. And sure enough it did not disappoint. My husband had the carne asada, my cousin had a shrimp dish and I had the red snapper dish all very good, I had read where the portions were small and that it was pricey. We are so used to eating big huge plate portions, We also had the sampler appetizer and although pricey it was good. I would go back

We had heard a lot about this place but took us a long time to get there. Was worth the wait! Food was awesome, service was great, and the people/staff were very friendly. We brought some friends who are new to Dallas and wanted "mexican" food. They had been dissappointed so far with what they found in DFW. This place knocked their socks off! We're coming back and bringing more folks.
Some neat stuff: Modello Especiale on tap! A half block form Texas Theatre. Easy parking.
