A taste of luxury
My husband an I came here for our fourth wedding anniversary. Since it is the fruits and flowers anniversary we thought having high tea would be a fitting way to celebrate. It certainly was! The decor was ornate and lavish. The waitstaff were extremely courteous and friendly. The tea, sandwiches and desserts were divine. We even received complimentary champagne and additional sweets in honor of our anniversary (including a chocolate disc with the words "Happy Anniversary" printed in gold). To top it off, there was a violinist playing romantic classical music while everyone dined. What a wonderful treat! The only drawback was that the room felt stuffy and a bit too hot. Other than that, it was a luxurious afternoon!

My daughter and I love to
My daughter and I love to have tea at the Taj to celebrate our birthdays and entertain out of town guests. It's a nice way to spend quality time with people you love.

Mother's Day Enjoyment
Our experience at the Taj was wonderful and what a great idea for a special occasion. I would totally do this again; the service and food was great!

Tea for two at the Taj
Perfect way to celebrate with a friend --- each others birthdays! A lovely afternoon to catch up, sip tea (and a little champagne!) and nibble on THE most luscious tea sandwiches and sweets. To top it off, there was wonderful live music in the background which was made even more special when she all of a sudden started to play "Happy Birthday" and at that exact moment, my friend and I were each served a candlelit cupcake artfully presented by Travis, our smiling waiter.. Bravo Taj and Open Table!

Tea at the Taj was a great time. The setting is wonderful, with classic furniture as the seating, set in a large, airy room. The food itself was also very good, with good sandwich options for vegetarians, and a large portion of fresh fruit for those of us who don't eat egg. However, to ensure getting the vegetarian sandwiches and eggless desserts, I contacted the restaurant a few days prior to our reservation. The service was generally very thoughtful, though it did seem a little bit rushed, with waiters moving our meal along quickly at times. Overall, though, everything about the afternoon tea was very good.

Old Word Wonderful
Every course of the tradional tea service was delicious and beautiful. The tea salon is wonderfully quiet with just a violinist playing softly. The atmosphere is old world elegant. A real treat!

IT's not as good as when it
IT's not as good as when it was the Ritz, for food, service, or atmopshere, and the old tea room is apparently now a bar, but it was still excellent and I really wish it would open every day not just on weekends.

My SIL and I enjoyed tea here for our girls weekend in the city. It was the perfect addition to our weekend away. I especially enjoyed my green tea and the delectable treats!

girls, young and older alike, would enjoy tea time with someone special ,but this is the kind of thing one only does once in a while since it is very pricey. Reminded me of playing tea time with my girls when they were two years old:) Food was fun, tables are too close for a private conversation and servers could be just a bit more attentive and relaxed.

The desserts and tea were lovely, the sandwiches were not outstanding, at best average. I was left without water for much of my time there and we were left waiting for our bill for quite some time.

best afternoon tea place
This is my second afternoon tea at Taj with some friends. I thought food selection was good except the ham & cheese sandwich was too salty for me. My friend loved the strawberry dipped with chocolate. The strawberry was perfectly ripe. We were too full from sandwiches that we could not finish the mini desserts. They had a violinist I found her music depressing. Overall we all had nice time.

I brought my mother here for a late Mother's Day treat. We both got our choice of tea and the array of desserts. The atmosphere was elegant, with clothe wallpaper, high back chairs and sturdy tables. A violinist was playing music lightly throughout the whole experience. The table next to me had a birthday and the violinist played happy birthday and the waiter brought out extra dessert with a lit candle. Very nice touch! It is pricey just for the little you get, but that's how tea usually is. I do wish they had an option to get sandwiches and dessert instead of one or the other without buying 2. I was sugared out afterwards. The Vanilla Earl Grey tea was amazing. The waiter was attentive until I paid then he didn't pour tea anymore.

Wonderful Experience at High Tea
We had a delightful celebration for my sister's 50th birthday. The Tea Room is splendid. The decor is beautiful, the food was excellent and the service was outstanding. I highly recommend the experience. Thank you to everyone at Taj for making this a special occasion!

Taj Tea is always the best
We do the tea here quite often. It's the first time I did reserve on Opentable. You first choose your tea & the "style". You can do just the tea or opt for the "style", such as Taj Royal..comes with Champagne. Taj Tea..come with small petit sandwichs.pastries or the Duchess which is either sandwichs or pastries. The ambience with the violin/harp/cello player is always so nice. It's the best by far in Boston. We highly recommend it.

I have done Afternoon Tea at this location for years and years - when it used to be the Ritz and now as the Taj - from a regular afternoon to many special occasions (birthdays, showers, anniversaries, etc...). I've been to many locations for Afternoon tea in Massachusetts and this remains to be the most elegant. The room is beautiful, the service impeccable, the tea & crumpets delightful. I also enjoy the addition of the violinist or harpist. I have noticed a few changes over the years, however, that I'm not especially fond of. The china has changed and is no longer as dainty or pretty as it once was. I think that makes a huge difference. The rooms have become much more sparse - less cozy and inviting.

Tea for 2
Great time. Awesome experience! As close to England as it gets. Will come back again.

Always top notch
Tea at the Taj is always tops!. You first choose your tea. It's delivered in a pot that steeps for a few min. Then one of the attendants pours for you. They bring out savory small sandwiches. After these they bring out tasty small treats. Makes a great way to start an afternoon. You may decide to have less or more, all depends on what you order. We always do the "Taj Tea". You can do just the tea, or order up a glass of Preseco to start off.

.old world charm
Loved the room with old world charm. Perfect service fit for exquisite high tea experience. We were completely satisfied with Taj afternoon tea until we came downstairs to the lobby only to be rudely awakened from the high tea dream by the valet parking attendant. Upon receiving our valet ticket, the attendant asks, "Your car is parked not far from here. Do you want to walk to your car, or should we bring it around?" Could not believe what I just heard - is this a self-valet? Then he says , $25 if paid by cash and $30 by credit card. ???
It's a shame this beautiful tea service is flawed by a parking attendant, who should just as much be the face of Taj hotel as any other staff/service.

Celebrating my birthday here was delightful. The servers were attentive and extremely polite, and gently accommodated my friends' request to embarrass the birthday girl with a celebratory cupcake. It was raining so there was no view, but I'm sure it would be beautiful with better weather. The food was delicious-- not as phenomenal as I expected, but "there was crust on the bread" is not a legitimate critique. The violinist played beautifully. The only reason the noise level was "moderate" and not "quiet" for us is that we sat right next to the violinists, so the noise level varied between loud and extremely quiet when she took breaks. Overall, a fantastic experience for a special occasion

This was a very lovely way to have a very special afternoon. The sandwiches were awesome. The desserts were ok, I could have done without them. The biggest complaint I have is that the tea was lukewarm. I had to ask for them to heat my milk too.
It is also expensive so make sure it is a special occasion.

Tea at the Taj in Boston
I just turned 55 and have never been to a formal Tea before. I brought my fiancé and we were shocked and amazed about how great the whole event is put on.
Upon arrival we were graciously greeted and shown to our table. The room was bright, sunny and classic in decoration and ambiance. There was a solo violinist playing the entire time. Quiet room with a bit of a buzz from the conversations and the calm and peaceful music.
Our server Travis was the epitome of a professional waiter and he took great care to make sure my first Tea would be my best.
We both ordered the Taj Royale and were extremely impressed with the quality and the quantity of the food that was served.

Simply the best for tea
Really don't need a lengthy review here. Just read my past reviews. It's as simple as this, if you like a formal "British High Tea", this is simply the place to go. It's always understated elegance & service to detail, make the Taj for tea the place to choose. The Langham/Bristol Lounge(4 Seasons)/Le Espalier are nice, but the Taj, is simply above all else in Boston when it comes to truely proper tea service. Only the Ships of Cunard(which we frequent)also know how to do proper English High Tea.

Tea at its best
I've been looking for a proper tea place in Mass for years and I'm so happy that I found the Taj. We both ordered the Taj Royale, which allowed us to start with a glass of Prosecco before our tea. I had chose the Oolong, and the lady had the Taj Breakfast, the food was artfully prepared and was plenty for the two of us.
The service was absolutely impeccable; both of us have a backgorund in restaurants and we were just blown away at the level of service here.
I'm not sure if she's there every Sunday, but the violin player was excellent. Her tone was perfect and even being right next to her to volume never reached a point where it drowned out the conversation.
I'll be making aother trip here in December when my relatives from the UK visit!

We had been to the Taj for our wedding night just 6 weeks prior and had heard then about their tea time. I made reservations a few weeks out and took advatage of the valet service once we arrived. The room was beautiful and the service brilliant. The violinist in the background added to the overall atmosphere. My wife is a big tea drinker, and what she picked out for us was delicious. The china and silver was impeccable. We got the shared cheese plate and a pot of tea. Both were just delightful. Might not go here on my own accord but my wife loved it. Great saturday/sunday afternoon date.
