European Food At It's BEST !
We've followed Chef Uli for years. My husband is from Europe and just LOVES the unique and hard to find menu at this restaurant. Eisbein (boiled pork shank) is tender and fit for 2 ample meals....we always have a 'doggie bag'. I've had the Sauerbraten and filet of sole in the past. Side dishes of sauerkraut and red cabbage are truly homemade. We love this place !

Birthday dinner, party of 6 and everything was superb! The Chef made us feel at home and the food was outstanding. Wonderful corned beef and cabbage for St. Patricks Day (week).

Swiss in the valley
As good as or better than any Swiss or German restaurant in town. The only drawback is the somewhat dated and basic decor, although it is colorful. Great hospitality.

Love this place!
The food here is just spectacular, the Chef stops by the tables to check on everybody and is very happy to accommodate to special requests. A family favorite for sure!

Without a doubt, "THE SWISS CHEF," is by far the Best German or Swiss Restaurant in the Western United States!

Just like back Home!
My family was in town from Canada and we are original from Switzerland. My client told me about this place. I took my parents, my husband and my two boys. From the moment we walked in and got to speak swiss with the head chef I knew this place would be great. The waiter was very friendly and the live music was beautiful, it all made my mother home sick, she cried twice! The food was excellent. Good portion sizes but we had no left overs. Thank you Swiss Chef you will be seeing us again :))

Only for Food Lovers
We took my wife to the Swiss Chef for my wife's birthday. It was fabulous. The menu on line isn't as big as in the restaurant. They have a monthly menu that is tied into what's fresh. This month (May) it was white asparagus. There were maybe another 15 dishes emphasizing that food. They gave us the white asparagus soup just so we could try it, it was wonderful. The food was great, and the chef came out and sang happy birthday to my wife with a piece of peach pie. It couldn't have been a nicer experience.

Always a Pleasure
I love going here. The steak tartar is always fabulour! Only had appitizers with a couple of drinks and we were very happy..
Speaking of drinks, I think they have upgraded their wine list as the house cab was much better then I remember it.
Also the Pate was excellent. Always a great experience with really good service.

A Must try
I felt like I was really in Switzerland. The one man band was great, made for a really nice atmosphere. The clam soup is delicious.

Never a disappointment
We shared (I know, I hate that word) the pork shank for 2 people. It's absolutely fantastic, as long as you're not worried about being sized out of Abercrombie and Fitch's target demographic. Perfectly cooked, the skin is crispy and the meat is tender. It's served with a mild but flavorful light brown sauce. Although you'll be tempted to pick it up and eat it like an apple, that would be bad form, so they will slice you off a hunk. I also love the pate (either alone or as part of the tray) and, though I'm not one for dessert, the chestnut vermicelli is just grand, especially with their great coffee. If you time it right, Fritz will be performing and Ueli might get up and sing with him! Overall, a delightful and friendly place.

One of the best ever!
Swiss Chef has become one of my top 5 fave restaurants, hands down. The service was amazing to the point where Judy actually came to our table and scraped cheese from the bottom of the fondue pot for us to have! Plus, the chef seems to spend more time in the dining room with his patrons than he does in the kitchen. I've never seen a chef so hands on with his guests; he even played happy birthday on his accordian for one guest. The food, btw, is very, very excellent as well! We did the fondue and the Chef treated us to amazing pea soup. Then, cuz we raved over it, he gave us each a container of it to take home - gratis! I didn't know restaurants like this still existed! I'm a fan, I'll be back many, many times! THUMBS UP!!!!!

Wonderful Swiss/German Food
On the evening we were there, there were a FEW groups with young children, so the noise level was rather high. Service was somewhat neglectful, but the food was EXCELLENT, and would go back, probably with one or two other couples. Accordion/keyboard player lent nice ambiance.

The Swiss Chef
Chef Ueli has cooked in European as well as American Restaurants as well as hotels and other venues. My wife has food issues with gluten problems as well as food allergies. The restaurant from head chef to servers and busboys are very tuned in to provide the freshest food, without a lot of sauces and gimmicks to disguise the food. The food is fresh and served in a very appetizing manner. Service was courteous and prompt as well as acommodating. Although the music was too loud, everything else was first rate. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a delicious meal.

Fun and different!
First of all, the owner/chef is adorable! He's a true gentleman, host, and pretty good chef. I really enjoyed my dinner. My husband didn't care for his, hence the 4 stars instead of 5. It's not that it wasn't well prepared, it was likely the foreign combination of flavors. The chef also made sure to make sure my dietary needs were taken care, as I eat gluten free, and I really appreciate his efforts. During out meal there was also entertainment by the chef, and it was a lot of fun to listen. You can tell the owners really care about their customers and establishment as a whole. Who wouldn't love that?! Try it, at least once.

The food is fantastic
This place is not fancy, the prices are high, but the food is so good, it's definitely worth it. Must try the pork shank.

Authentic Swiss food
We love this place! The food is consistently GREAT and it's a great change of pace, (you don't find true old European food often), and Chef makes always makes us feel like we are guests in his kitchen. From the pate to desert EVERYTHING on he prepares is fresh from the finest ingredients.

Get you Oktoberfest on!
Loved the venision schnitzel on their Oktoberfest special menu. We also had the 3 brat plate on the regular menu and all three kinds were excellent. Looking forward to trying the fondue soon!

We Visit Frequently
Menu items are unique to any other restaurant we've found in the Los Angeles area. It's a Swiss/German home cooked meal from a family kitchen. Uli, the owner always is visible greeting each and every customer.

A fun place
A traditional Swiss meal complete with a singing chef! Fabulous food. Friendly, helpful service. $12 corkage a plus. Opentable check not accepted.

Bring Ear Plugs!
This is the second time we have been there, and both times the noise level was so "energetic" we could hardly hear one of the other 2 couples across from us at a round table. Since this was during Oktoberfest, there were large groups celebrating, and plenty of toasts, "prosits" (?) and lots of good cheer. In spite of this, our server (who was somewhat harried ) was very good, although there was a mixup in the kitchen on our dessert order.

Don't miss THE SWISS CHEF in October for OKTOBERFEST. It's like dinner and a show.
