The 4 course tasting menu
The 4 course tasting menu is lovely. Changes frequently and all you have to do is choose your main course. Keep in mind to get there you will need to take a ferry ride with your car. Highly recommend the place.

This was my second dinner at 18 Bay and it was as fabulous as I remembered. The food surpassed my expectations. I love the appetizer sampling. Its nice to be able to try a little bit of several different dishes. The fresh pasta was excellent and the entree course was superb. Great wine selection with several local Long Island wines to choose from. The wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. All in all a great dining experience. Looking forward to my next visit.

Gourmet in shelter island
Everything about this restaurant is fabulous. Presentation, service & the food are all of the highest standard.

18 Bay is always a dining pleasure. Adam and Elizabeth the chef owners do an amazing job of using local ingredients. This is our favorite restaurant by far on the eastend. Thanks again for a great meal!

Wonderful, unusual food - each bite was delicious. I am gluten-free and they made a special risotto for me to replace the pasta, with no problem at all. I highly recommend it! In fact I have already done so!

18 bay is a lovely restaurant
18 bay is a lovely restaurant where the food is the star. come hungry and relaxed. the four courses cannot be rushed and should not be. the service is wonderful and the owners (who are the chefs) make sure every plate comes out a work of art, without every feeling fussy. the weekly, seasonal menu allows for regular visits.

AN OUTSTANDING RESTAURANT
The menu changes weekly. The $55 four course set menu is an imaginative, delicious rendering of local, seasonal, organic ingredients of superior quality. The chef & waitstaff make every attempt to cater to clients' tastes & intolerances. Freshly baked whole wheat bread was served with a green pea and mint purée - enticing & a wonderful beginning to an inspired menu. The four antipasti ran the gamut of clean, crisp, hot, sweet & sassy. The pasta course of cannelloni, stuffed with white asparagus & dusted with chive flowers, was delicate & fine. Our lamb with Tuscan kale & roasted rosemary potatoes was simply delicious. Wines by the glass are well chosen, well priced. Timing between courses was well considered. Overall an amazing evening!

Nothing that can be stated negatively about our experience at 18 Bay. They got it all right. It was creative, delicious, well-paced, and we were satiated and delighted. Highly recommend.

Shelter Island Gem
After reading a EXCELLENT New York Times review, we ate there over the weekend. They only offer a $55.00 prix fix tasting menu of 4 courses. The antipasti was platter with four sections, with four different appetizers. Their quail and their truffle roast potato were the best I've ever had. The pasta course was a little disappointing but their entree fluke was delicious. There was a choice of two desserts, but we asked for something lighter, and they gladly made us a fruit platter.
This is a good choice for dining in Shelter Island and will be a tough reservation to get during the summer months.

Serious food with a friendly feel
A restaurant that takes its cooking seriously, yet retains the lovely touches of country dining. Locally sourced and beautifully presented. Loved the seasonal wildflower bouquets that graced the rooms.

Charming location, stellar food
super charming and elegant at the same time. Food is stellar. Love that the only decisions we had to make were our entree selections and the wine. The bento box of appetizers was both beautiful to look and to eat. A wonderful combo as well that hit all the high notes - delicate ( hamachi crudo) crunchy (fried oyster with aiolli) rich ( short rib with a kimchi pickle, also tomato - mozzarella ) and I worked my way around the plate in happy abandon. Entrees were equally beautiful and delicious - two got duck, two got sea bass. Desserts did not disappoint. Strawberry- rhubarb crumble and lemon semi freddo with a local cherry - that should be noted, never saw a refrigerator. Wonderful staff & owners too. Looking forward to the next time.

the real deal
so many restaurants are superficial , theatrical efforts these days. all interior design with a few designer dishes on the menu. 18 Bay feels like its heart and soul are in the right place. there is a gracious, unpretentious intelligence coming from the kitchen. the prix fixe regimen is a steal by any standard given the quality of the local ingredients and the skill of the chef. though i live 2 hrs. from this place i will make a special effort to get back. i hope the locals realize the gem they have in their midst and make sure this eatery survives the long lonely shelter island winters.

Great Food; Unequal Service
Be prepared it is a price fix menu and limited. Everything except fo the dessert was truly delicious. However, I must express my chagrin with the service starting with the bar tendor to waiter. Bar tender didn't ask for our drink order even though we were sitting at the bar (too busy filling server orders), he then got them wrong (2 out of 4) and never had htem sent to our table, We had to ask for bread twice, to light out candel (sitting outside at night), returned dessert when we were served vanilla ice-cream and not asked which flavor we wanted, which was not vanilla.
They need to tighten up the ship to truly be given high marks. Food alone doesn't raise you to the top in a competitive summer market. Fingers crossed for them.
7/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was so great, no complaints whatsoever. It's a small place that gets filled quickly, even though seating was tight, you still feel as if you had your own privacy! but you better make a reservation!!

Great addition to Shelter Island
Wonderful food and terrific service. We will be back again soon.

Nice night out
We had 18 Bay on our "to try" list and then friends mentioned how much they enjoyed it for date night. The menu is price fix and includes appetizer, small pasta plate, choice of two entrees and dessert. The appetizer was four "tastes"; calamari, quail, swordfish and a mushroom dish. All very good. The pasta was a spring pea ravioli - all the pasta is handmade. Entree choices were pork loin or striped bass - we both chose striped bass - it was delightful - crusty on top and light and flaky below served over julienned zucchini and corn. Dessert was peach blueberry cobbler with vanilla gelato. All in all an excellent meal. The meal was 2 full hours - so a bit long if you are in a rush - which we were not. A nice addition to the island!

Oh what a night!
We made our reservation on open table after reading reviews as we wanted a restaurant with exceptional food and charm for our 43rd anniversary. We were totally delighted with an amazing dining experience. Attentive but not hovering service. Everything was wonderful and memorable. We only wish we lived in Shelter Island to come back to 18 Bay soon!

we sat on the porch and watched the wild turkeys cross the road - are they dumb! it was a lovely evening - the food was delicious and the service just attentive enough. we're going back next week!
7/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
My husband and I had dinner at 18 Bay two weeks ago and it was one of the best meals I have ever had! the constantly changing menu made with local organic food was wonderful and the service was very attentive! The presentation was perfect with a fantastic balance of flavors. Will definitely be going back!
7/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
I was not one bit disappointed with the vegetarian option. Actually two days later I am still thinking back fondly of some of the courses. The homemade macaroni with squash pesto and ricotta salata was incredible. My husband enjoyed the regular menu, he especially loved the appetizers. The food was bright and flavorful. We did not leave feeling overstuffed. The wine list by the glass was a nice selection as well. My last course was the chocolate gelato and espresso. It was a delicious finale! We will definitely return and look forward to trying more of what this gem has to offer. The service was also attentive but not overbearing, not many places around like this, kudos!

This was our third time back and everything was amazing.
The staff was very attentive and more than willing to substitute items due to some of our dietary restrictions.
They couldn't be more accommodating. This place is a real gem and so reasonable.

Wonderful prix fixe Italian
Great meal. Menu changes weekly and includes
Four piece antipasti, pasta course and a choice between
two entrees as well as a dessert. All for $55. A wine pairing
is also available but not really worth on this occasion.
Every was prepared to perfection. We really
enjoyed the seared sea scallop with purslane
and pizzette with fontina, quail egg and speck
antipasti and the spectacular lasagne verde.
I recommend it highly.

Special Place on Shelter Island
If you are looking for a wonderful farm to table experience, this is the place. Not a "Hamptons" scene at all. The food is well prepared and well presented and the room is attractive, spacious & comfortable. We highly recommend.

always a pleasure
We live in nyc and visit18 bay during our annual vacation trip to shelter island is a treat. They are consistently great and always look forward to trying weekly menu. If they have an a la carte menu, we would visit 18 bay everyday during our visit.

NOT A QUIET TABLE
MY ONE REQUEST WAS THAT WITH MY RESERVATION WAS A QUIET TABLE.. WE WERE USHERED TO A SMALL CORNER TABLE SURROUNDED BY LARGE NOISY PARTIES. WHEN WE REQUESTED AN OUTDOOR PATIO TABLE ALTHOUGH ONLY TWO PATIES SEATED(OUT OF MAYBE 6 TABLES) WE WERE TOLD NONE AVAILABLE.. HOSTESS EVENTUALLY SAID IT WAS OK. WHEN I TOLD HER THAT I WE HAD REQUESTED A QUIET TABLE SHE REPLIED THAT'S KIND OF DIFFICULT ON A FRIDAY NIGHT. I CAN UNDERSTAND THAT BUT NOT WHEN I AM OBVIOUSLY SEEING THAT IT IS POSSIBLE.
NOT HAVING BEEN TO ANY SHELTER ISLAND RESTAURANT BEFORE. IT'S DIFFICULT TO JUDGE IT'S PLACEMENT AMONGST IT'S PEERS. WE DID CALL TO ASK ABOUT A CORK FEE AND THERE WAS NONE. WE BOUGHT OUR OWN BOTTLE SO WE DID NOT LOOK AT THE WINE LIST,HOWEVER WE ORDER DRINKS. ..
8/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
An unusual approach to the
An unusual approach to the menu: the only decision you normally make is to choose one of the two offered entrees; four different antipasti and a pasta course are delivered to all before the entree, and a dessert afterward (you can ask for substitutes when you have a dislike or an allergy). The menu changes weekly, and is based on locally grown produce.Everything we had was delicious, with some creative combinations of flavors. A charming location in an old house, but gets noisy when busy (hard surfaces). Service friendly and knowledgeable, but bread was never offered, nor was coffee until we asked.
8/10/2013 5:00:00 PM
this was a very good experience all around. one of the best ....

Great little food spot
Me and my lady went here for the 1 st time to have dinner and were very impressed by the food and wine the only down was that we couldn't figure out where the host was so we sat are selves at the bar. We made reservations in advance and were seated promptly
Our food was very good the pasta and duck where two of my faves , I would definitely go back

We LOVE 18 Bay! We find it relaxing and always enjoy the food. It's great to try new things. There fish dishes are wonderful!!
8/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
original food, local sources
Our meal, on one of the busiest weeks of the summer tourist season, was excellent. Imaginative antipasti, homemade pasta with spinach and mushrooms, sea bass and steak that were both from local sources. The service was friendly and competent, though we waited a very long time between courses, presumably because the kitchen was overwhelmed by the crowd. Everything was very fresh. Diners need to know that there is a fixed menu; the only choice you have is between meat and fish for the entree.
Although the meal was not cheap (we had a good bottle of wine), it was significantly less expensive than it would have been in New York City. Good value for our money, we felt.

New Favorite for us
Can't say enough. Gastronomic experience from start to finish. Each course was a surprise and the service was spot on. Be back next week to check out new menu.

Respite from the EH scene
East Hampton is so hectic - you almost hate going out. This is a wonderful place to have great food, at a very reasonable price (and first bottle no corkage), you can hear yourself and those around you.
8/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
18 Bay is my favorite restaurant, even more than my NYC favorites Po and Babbo. The service is impeccable. The servers knowledgeable and friendly. The chef's tasting menu changes every Wednesday and each week it is innovative and made with the freshest, finest local ingredients. So reasonable - $55 for a 4 course tasting.
8/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
Worth the trip.
Excellent inventive food, beautifully presented. Service friendly. Dessert well done but not up to originality of other courses. Looking forward to another visit.
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great little spot
Shelter Island is limited to the amount of places you can eat. That said, there was no sacrifice in good food and good service. This place is by far the best on the island. They were courteous and attentive. The food was very good and they give you a fun selection. The only thing you have to do is pick your entree. Stay away from Vine Street!
18 Bay is the best on the island!

Just a Gem
We have eaten at 18 Bay several times since it opened and it has become our favorite dinning destination - the best on the island. Have never been disappointed and enjoy the discovery with the multi-offering appetizer plate.
9/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME WE DINED AT 18 BAY...THE FOOD WAS FANTASTIC AND THE SERVICE WAS VERY GOOD...BUT THE NOISE LEVEL DETRACTED SIGNIFICANTLY FROM BOTH... NOT SURE WHAT YOU CAN DO ABOUT THIS ISSUE OTHER THEN TO PUT SOME NOISE ABSORBENT PANELS IN THE CEILING.....THE NOISE FROM THE ADJOINING TABLE OF 6 WAS SIMPLY OVERWHELMING...SO MUCH SO THAT WE COULD NOT HAVE A RESONABLE /ENJOYABLE CONVERSATION....WHICH, WHEN YOU CONSIDER THAT THE WELL PACED SERVICE OF 2.5 HRS TURNED WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A DELIGHTFUL DINNER INTO A VERY UNENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE.
I AM SURE WE WILL RETURN NEXT SEASON BUT IF THE NOISE LEVEL IS THE SAME WILL HAVE TO FORGO THE GREAT FOOD....SIMPLY NOT TOLEARBLE
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
We eat out quite a bit and 18 Bay is definitely on our top 5 list. We had the 4 course meal and would highly recommend it because it gave us an opportunity to try some of the chef's outstanding selections, especially on the appetizer list. Service was very attentive and informative. Great cocktails - love the lemon martini. Celebrated our anniversary. Pricey but worth it!!!
10/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
Another awesome dining experience
Went to 18 Bay for the second time with my sisters and cousins. We had been here together two years ago. We were not disappointed. The food was exceptional. One appetizer was better than the other...I just love the fact that you try all four appetizers, we had difficulty picking the best. The pasta was so fresh and delicious. Main courses were cooked perfectly and pear tart with gelato was a wonderful closure to our meal.
I have been hear several times and will have no hesitations in recommending it. Well run ferry makes getting here easy!
10/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
We took ferry JUST for dinner here!
We took the ferry from Sag Harbor just for dinner here because it was highly recommended. We were blown away by the delicious meal! I highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys fine dining! I am allergic to seafood and shellfish and they were able to substitute without question. I appreciate restaurants who think of these possibilities ahead of time! The lamb entree was incredible. And the potato with truffle oil sauce was amazing. I wanted to slurp up the sauce with a straw!
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
great once we sat down
made a 9pm reservation and didn't sit down til 9.45 pm. we would of liked to see something comped or a free appetizer while we were waiting. after working all day and not eatting we wanted to sit at 9 and eat, not be leaving the restaurant at 11.30. once we placed our order, it took about 10 minutes to get our apps (which was the same for the whole restaurant) but after that, the timing and service was great. the menu was the same for the whole restaurant. everyone got a plate of 4 smalls apps, choice of 1 of 2 entrees, a pasta salad i believe, and a choice of 1of 2 desserts.
11/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent dining experience
We had a not so great dinner here a few moths ago. Although the food was outstanding, the service was enough to make me want to NEVER go back. We decided to give it one more chance and 18 Bay was back to its old MO. Exquisite and creative food and more than adequate service this time around. As locals, we forgive and forget and will make this restaurant a habit.

Great way to celebrate a birthday!
18 Bay never disappoints. We celebrated a family birthday this weekend and had a terrific time. Tasted cardoons for the first time. Cozy ambiance friendly attentive service. Food is imaginative and local. First of the Peconic Bay scallops. We will be back as usual
