A REAL GEM
I was introduced to Paxia through a group of friends via a lunch date. I was immediately impressed with the restaurant itself; clean and vibrant. Although the food and the staff was what put it over the top for me. I have been bragging about Paxia to friends and family for a while so for my brothers 45th birthday, this was my restraunt of choice. And now, it is their first choice as well.

Standout Mexican cuisine
This was our second time dining there. Food is excellent, very authentic and some unique dishes. Margaritas are fantastic, especially the mango with jalapeño. Guac is made table side to your preference. Service the first time, on a crazy busy Saturday night, was really slow and spotty. This time we dined earlier and everything was great. Since the guacamole is made table side, the wait for it depends on how busy they are. Both times it showed up just minutes before meal. Staff need to communicate this to diners to let them know. We knew what to expect, having been before, but they really should tell people. Other than that, great food, great place!

I came across Paxia about
I came across Paxia about a year ago and have been going at least once a month sense. I have recommended and introduced several people to Paxia and they've all been very impressed. The food and service is always consistant which is what I personally love the most - I know it's going to be a great experience.

Great Mexican Restaurant
Ate at Paxia for the first time and thought it was great! Excellent fresh Mexican food, which is difficult to find in Denver. So many Mexican places are SO average, wonder how they stay in business. They have great margaritas, home made chips/salsa/guac/beans/tortillas. Plus was easy to get a table and park at 7pm on Saturday night (not for long!). Thought the combination of very good Mexican food plus a non-stuffy/expensive atmosphere (like Tamayo) was great. Given the lack of any other good Mexican restaurants on the west side of Denver (lived in Berkeley and Wheat Ridge the last 20 years) and location in the next hip neighborhood of Sunnyside, this restaurant will do very, very well.

Mexicanos al Ataque
This was my third time going to Paxia. I introduced a Russian friend to more authentic and gourmet Mexican food and she fell in love with the Chiles en Nogada, while I had the Tlacoyos, native to the Mexico City area which is completely different to my North Mexican home town. We also had the chips and different salsas along with Queso Fundido with Rajas and freshly made corn tortillas. For dessert, the flourless chocolate cake is decadent, although a bit small but good enough to share with one other person.

Fantastic authentic Mexican
Fantastic authentic Mexican foods! Not your typical "American" style burritos & tacos. Great salsas, margaritas, & house made tortillas. we'll definitely be back.

A good place for authentic
A good place for authentic Mexican food. Good mojitos. A step up from the usual cheese-slathered Tex-mex. Wonderful wait staff, especially Salvy.

Tlacoyos, nogadas, rellenos, all fantastic! I loved the decor/ artwork/ seating... Hip but not too hip, comfortable. I will definitely be back, just wish I still lived nearby so I could dine here more frequently! All the staff was great too.

An unique Mexican alternative
Paxia is a standout in Denver, among so many Mexican restaurants that serve up refried beans & cheese. Read their menu online before going, and you'll get a sense of how different it is. Hand made, authentic Mexican & Central American foods with flair is what you'll find here, along with a few familiar favorites, but done Paxia-style.

Yummy and unique. The service
Yummy and unique. The service is friendly and kind, but relaxed. Be prepared to relax and take some time to enjoy the experience. If you are pressed for time, probably not the best place.

I really enjoyed our dinner.
I really enjoyed our dinner. The waitress ensured we had sufficient time to order. Very hospitable, gave recommendations on what food to try and drinks. The food was wonderful, tasty and purely enjoyable.

Mexican food lovers, what a find!
Their menu listing has appetizers, entrées and drinks that you cannot find at any other restaurant in Metro Denver. The entrée that we had ("Molcajelte") was simply outstanding (we would definitely order this again - they offer three varieties of this dish and it is served in a Mexican mortar, lava rock vessel hot out of the oven!)
Ambience was colorful, well lit and pleasant with large heavy wood tables to enjoy your meal. Their corn tortillas are fresh made and they offer them to you continuously while your dining.

We all thoroughly enjoyed
We all thoroughly enjoyed our entrees and the Nogada appetizer was terrific. We appreciated the new and interesting spices and chilies.

Stumbled upon it and gave it a go. It was wonderful! Authentic mexican foor and yummy yummy! Save room for desert though!! I am not a desert person but gave it a whirl, the flourless chocolate cake with a dollup of ice cream on top was to die for! Came out warm out of the oven made to order and delicous!

Loving this place!
2nd time here and just love the food! It is great! The service this second time was a little less fabulous than last time but the food and atmosphere totally made up for it. You will be doing yourself a disfavor not trying this place!

Great food and service. Will definitely return - as a group and individually!

Paxia Authentic Mexican Restaurant
First time a week ago for lunch, again on Memorial Day for Lunch/Brunch. The food is the best and a great surprise as we didn't know what 'authentic Mexican food' was. The fajita burrito is very large, filling is delicious and I will order it again. My husband commented that the Huevos Rancheros was the best he had ever had. We will go back.

Paxia at lunch is a good choice
My major complaint is no chiles en nogada or molé on the lunch menu! (I know they'll bring you molé if you ask.) The food is awesome, not at all your typical "Mexican food." In a city where you can get a perfectly good shredded beef burrito smothered green on almost every street corner, each one the same as the last, Paxia is a breath of fresh air. I could eat a whole plate of the guacamole all by myself. I love the owners' other restaurant, Los Carboncitos, too -- Distrito Federal street food with authenticity. Paxia is quieter, a little fancier, and off the beaten path so there's no enormous lunch rush to contend with.

Denver's best Mexican food?
For me, yes. Unusual, vibrant, tasty food. Looks like a high end Mexican restaurant in a Mexican big city. Beautifully presented, delicious food....forget the usual slathered burrito stuff. The salmon Yucatan was delightful, as was the salmon ceviche. Enjoyed the chicken mole as well. Wonderful place, and reasonably priced. Worth visiting again and again.

Delight with Delicacy
Paxia's food and drinks are exceptional and beautiful. Although an "In the neighborhood" locale the experience was elegant. We had a wonderful evening of friends and food. The guacamole was exceptional.

Excellent upscale Mexican
Excellent upscale Mexican food in a nice atmoshphere. I hope it is around for a long time.

Not your standard Mexican fare
Four of us went to Paxia for the first time. At first glance it looks like your typical Mexican restaurant with the usual decor. But when you open the menu, you realized it is not. There are a lot of central Mexican dishes with imaginitive combinations of spices, salsas and peppers. We chose appetizers of warm manchego cheese with poblano peppers served with homemade tortillas and salmon ceviche layered on guacomole rosettes and garnished with a citrus salsa. Both were outstanding. Main courses of slow cooked pork loin melted in your mouth as did the Yucatan salmon cooked in a plantain leaf. The wine list is minimal but there are a number of interesting cocktails and beers to choose from. This restaurant is a gem and worth trying.

Unusual and interesting Mexican
Welcoming place with delicious and not-your-typical Mexican dishes...very authentic and wonderfully prepared. The wait staff is attentive and there are numerous interesting options - everything is really good here! Highly recommend.

Lots of character. Menu has dishes you won't usually find at the usual "Mexican" places. Great spot in our neighborhood. The Molcajetes is amazing.

Great Mexican restaurant with nice ambiance. The service was very good and the Margaritas were tasty. It was a little loud but the positives far out weighed this.

Over The Top Amazing!
We had dinner with a group of friends and everyone was blown away by the great food and service we had.
Paxia is not your typical Mexican restaurant. They have taken their menu to a whole other level which is nothing short of fantastic. From the appetizers thru main course and desserts every dish was flawlessly executed. The location is more intimate, so we liked that. I would suggest that if there is someone in your group that has trouble hearing to request sitting on their patio. We will definitely be back and have Paxia on our favorites list.

Not your typical "Mexican Food". At least not what we in Colorado think of as "Mexican" Delicious, unique!

Gourmet Mexican at reasonable price
Adventurous menu that appealed to me. Camirones con chorizo was tasty; my wife enjoyed the shrimp cebiche. Cocktails are generous. Only drawback is very loud interior. Maybe they could try some sound absorbing additions to the interior? We waited for a table on the patio so the two of us could converse.

Best Mexican resturant in Denver
One of only a few restaurants where you can get chiles en nogata. Noise level a little high for easy talking. Service great, food great all at a reasonable price.

Wow--what a find :)
Friends, that dont even live in the highlands, told us about this restaurant and their ceviche. The come from uptown just for it and
keep inviting us but havent made it till now. I cant say enough actually. I love mexican but know that its not what you'd typically not call it gourmet or for foodies but still yummy :) This was way different! Knowledgable staff, really great menu with different dishes from different parts of mexico. Owner was fantastic!!! You just know it's someone baby and they are really taking care of it and you!

Authentic is right! like Mex City
Started with the Cream of Poblano Soup, an old Mexican classic. Theirs was creamy, well-bodied, & peppery. My companion had never had it & wished he had ordered it! It's a great starter if you forego the made-at-the-table fresh guacamole.
House margaritas are made with fresh lime juice & agave nectar...nothing sweet here---a great handcrafted margarita made with love, & it tasted fresh, light, & fantastic.
Then Chiles en nogada...the national dish of Mexico. Stuffed poblanos with beef, raisins, apples, walnuts, potatoes, & covered with walnut cream sauce & pomegranate seeds. I've had this many times & can vouch for this version. If you've never had it, someone needs to order this as their entree & share bites. LOVED it.

We sat on their patio on a perfect Colorado summer evening. The food was outstanding from the table-side guacamole to the dish we came for ... Chiles en Nogada. My favorite dish I've had anywhere this year!

Fabulous Bday dinner.
Me and 7 friends went to celebrate my 30th. They reserved a nice big table in their more private room and it was a blast. Order the guacamole, they come to your table and make it in front of you. They even surprised me with a bday treat! The blackberry mojito's are fab also!

Definitely going back
Looking for food to cure our longing for Mexican cuisine since recently moving from Texas. Paxia was a wonderful find although leaning towards Mexico City vs Tex Mex. We enjoyed everything but were especially delighted with the coffee flan. Our server, Salvador, was superb.

Mexican isn't always Green Chile
This was our first time at Paxia and won't be the last. Having grown up in the southwest I have been stuck on green and red chile, beans, burritos, enchiladas, etc. for a good part of my life. The menu at Paxia offers so much more. For starters they have good Margaritas, excellent salsas to go along with the chips and guacamole that is above average. The real treat came when three of us split the Mocajete and the Chiles en Nogada. We added the chicken, beef and fish to the Mocajete which was complimented with homemade corn and flour tortillas. It's hard to describe how good the Chiles en Nogada was. All I can say is I had great flavors lingering in my mouth for quite a while after. This place is a keeper!

We were a party of 5 and they put us in a separate room, which was great because it was a bit noisy. They acknowledged our birthdays with a free dessert. The portions were generous and the food very good.Everyone was pleased

I was looking for a place to celebrate my best friend's birthday in the Highlands area. Paxia was one of the few that could accomodate our large group. When we arrived they had our table ready with water and menus. They even had an area set up for us to place the birthday girl's gifts. We stayed for a LONG time but never felt like our table was needed for other guests of the restaurant. The food was EXCELLENT. They privide us a great space to celebrate and laugh- other guests even came over to join in our fun.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
I coordinated a lunch outing for myself and 15 co-workers. In the past with such a big group, it has taken up to 3 hours for us to do a lunch like this. In an effort to make things a little more streamlined, I phoned Paxia and asked if I could pre-order everyone's lunch to have it ready 15 minutes after our arrival. To push the limits even more, I asked if it would be possible for each of us to have separate checks. "No problem". Our table was all set with Chips and Salsa (delicious!) on arrival. We had our own private room where we could talk across the table to each other without having to worry about bothering other guests. The food was great! And our lunch ended up just taking over an hour (a record).

Writers' Group Loves Paxia
Yummy, well priced food and friendly efficient service. We've been there as a group many times. I've been there personally many times. They have great basics including huge burritos and their specials are awesome.

I particularly enjoyed the guac. It was made to order, and SO fresh tasting. Being able to order by degree (mild, medium or hot) was a real plus, too!

Not Your Typical Mexican Restaurant
Paxia has become our go to place for an upscale Mexican dining experience, without the upscale price. The food is not only unique, but quite delicious. Excellent margaritas prepared with fresh ingredients and fabulous service from an attentive and helpful staff. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for something different than the average Mexican restaurant.
