This was our first time at Sixth Engine. We were getting an early dinner before a Capitals game at Verizon Center. The food was great, the service was good and the entire experience was very enjoyable. We will definitely be back.

The food is consistently good, the portions are healthy and the menu items unique and fun. They provide service with a smile, an excellent beer list and a lively ambiance. It is my go to place in the neighborhood.

This was my second trip to Sixth Engine, and I enjoyed it just as much as I did my first. No matter what I choose from the menu, it turns out to be excellent and the apple fritters are to die for.

Fantastic burgers, fantastic brunches (best eggs in city - always cooked to perfection) and perfect Bloody Marys! Staff are not only pleasant, but great fun and efficient!

First decent day of spring
First decent day of spring in DC and we had reservations for dinner. We were lucky to score a table on the patio and enjoyed the pork and filet main courses. Both delicious and well seasoned. Service was attentive but not overbearing. Good wine selection and unique beers available. Will definitely return.

Lots of fun cocktails and a great time for a group! I had hush puppies (YUM!) and a steak and house salad. All delicious!!! The Mass Ave 75 is my favorite cocktail!

We went for a pre-Caps game
We went for a pre-Caps game dinner and drinks and it turned out to be a good choice. The service was truly excellent. We were inside on the second floor which is very cavernous but not echo-y so you don't have to hear the neighboring conversations. The music level was appropriate and not too loud. The pre-meal, chips are like kettle cooked Munchos and we all thought they were great. Had burgers and pork tenderloin which were both very good. They tend to cook the burgers a little lighter than usual so medium well is closer to medium but it was fine. Probably one of the better burgers I've had in DC (best in the area is Alewife in Balto). Had little sugar cookies with the cheque which I thought was a nice touch.

Beware of slim lunch selection
Let me start by saying that I love Sixth Engine -- for dinner. However, if you visit them at say 2 p.m. on a Saturday and don't want to re-eat breakfast, the options are really limited.
Sixth Engine -- I want to eat lunch at your restaurant! Please move some of the dinner items to the earlier menu!

great menu, good drinks
my shandy was the perfect late morning drink...lots of good choices on the brunch menu, expected more flavor from the virginia ham used in my egg dish, though. overall the food could have been better seasoned, something is needed to punch up the flavor.

Mother's Day brunch
My family came in to visit this weekend from out of town for Mother's Day and I took them to sixth engine for brunch on Sunday. None of us had ever been there but I will certainly be going back. The food was delicious and drinks strong. My mother is an eggs Benedict connoisseur who orders them whenever and wherever we go to breakfast, and said these were probably the best she has ever had. No complaints. Great food, cool decor, friendly staff.

This is an interesting restaurant with its location in a historic DC firehouse. The menu is not extensive but the food is delicious. My family and I had a fun time here, and the service was excellent.

Disappointing menu - very limited - not much light and healthy

The eggs benedict at Sixth Engine was delicious! We all cleaned our plates. The service was perfect. Coffee from our own French press was a nice touch. I highly recommend!

This is our neighborhood spot. We've been here 3 days in a row for dinner and happy hour...which shows how much we love this place! The hush puppies are amazing. Onion rings, nachos, macaroni and cheese, fries, and burger are fantastic as well. We love it. The whole experience is great: ambiance, food, drinks, bartenders, and wait staff make it one of the best spots around.

I went later at night (reservations were for 8) which is probably why it was so quiet inside the restaurant. Plus it was a nice day so most people were sitting outside.
My only complaint is that the drink I had was not worth the price ($11).

Chocolate Chip Flapjacks.
Really, do I need to say more? I've eaten here several times and order something different each time. This time we were there for brunch and the chocolate chip pancakes were delicious - ridiculously rich, but delicious. I also sampled the steak and eggs, which were also amazing. The food hasn't disappointed yet, and the staff is always very friendly.

the food was excellent. the menu online is different from that in the restaurant, i went for the catfish sandwich and ended up having the pork roll. the porkbelly was great! the half bottles don't fill two glasses which was kind of a downer. but my waitress was sweet and helpful. my friend and i had a great time.

It was a gorgeous evening, so we were the only ones in the upstairs room, which was perfect for us because we were there to catch up with a visiting friend. The food was a notch above the usual. The steak was especially good. My pork belly sandwich was a bit overpowered by the goat cheese., but is that a bad thing? Good draft beer selection.

The restaurant has a sports bar like look and feel but the the food (including the complimentary onion dip with homemade potato chips) was a pleasant surprise for a casual restaurant. The wait staff was attentive

Fantastic Sunday Brunch
We keep coming back for brunch, since the food, drinks, and service are so good! Best hush puppies in the city :) I love this place.

We were looking for a different place to eat. We were going to see a concert at the Verizon center. I found reviews on this restaurant and they were good. So that's where we ended up. We have a drink first. I had the special cocktail for the day. It was something that the bartenders made up. It was good. Then we had dinner. I had the chicken dish with pasta. It was very good. My boyfriend had the shrimp and the black eyed peas...he was very happy with his dish. They gave us chips with a very good onion dip. (Complimentary) and cookies for dessert. Since we were too full for regular dessert. The place has outside dining, we ate inside. We are defiantly going back again and bringing friends.

6th Engine saved a Saturday
6th Engine saved a Saturday for me when my brunch reservation at another restaurant got cancelled by a broken water main (I had guests in town and was really hoping to take them out to brunch). Staff was very friendly and we got seated no problem. There is outdoor patio seating but we sat in the dining area upstairs because it was "slightly chilly" (so said the girls). It's a great space (converted firehouse) and everyone has very happy about their food (sixth engine benedict, duck confit scrapple, smoked beef hash, fried shrimp sandwich). We also shared hush puppies (surprisingly hard to find in DC) and apple fritters (real good). Nice cocktail list too. Looking forward to coming back again for a meal or to just check out the bar.

This was a first date and Sixth delivered for me. The old fire house did a wonderful job at serving up good eats. I ate upstairs in the dinning area, so I can't speak for the bar, but as for the bar tender - great drinks. The food was good but what I would expect in the area. That's not what sets Sixth Engine aside. It was the service and the atmosphere, good food, great drinks, great feel. Great date night.

Funky Firehouse Fare
Located in an historic old firehouse situated between modern high rise apartments, this place has a fun neighborhood feel, with high quality classic American diner food. There's a bar and dining room on the first floor, as well as dining on the second and third (mezzanine?) level. Decorated with old fire department themed objects and murals, it's a great place to bring visitors for eats. The menu is moderately priced and they, like many places in DC, have an eclectic drink menu with a number of rotating beer selections. Worth visiting!

Sixth Engine...great food/service
Only one problem...parking. But if you don't mind looking a little, or doing a short walk, the food and drink was totally worth it.

I loved Sixth Engine. I traveled from Boston to eat here and it did not disappoint. The food was good. Especially the appetizer pork belly grits and eggs. AMAZING!! I'm upset I can't have it now. the place is gorgeous!!! The fire house is so very nice and cozy on the top floor. I would certainly go there again, just because of how cool it is to eat in a fire house!!

Pork-A-Palooza for Brunch!
I brought my parents to Sixth Engine for brunch on Saturday--they're one of the few that do brunch on Saturday and Sunday! The mimosas were strong (in a good way) and my dad and I both had the No. 6--described to us by our server as a "pork-a-palooza" featuring ham, bacon and sausage, two eggs, toast and hashbrowns. The eggs were done to perfection, the meats were all yummy, and the hashbrowns were some of the best I've ever had. My mom had a ham and egg sandwich on a pretzel bun--also amazing. Can't wait to go back for another brunch and dinner!
