Nicest Place to Dine on Pine
Service, food, and environment was great. Pricing is a fare for the experience. My only complaint is that they did not carry a single bottle of Malbec wine. I took my girlfriend to dinner here for our three year anniversary and her favorite wine is Malbec, which I suppose would be fine had the server not told me that the reason they don't carry Malbec is because the owner doesn't like it. And although it is his restaurant I believe that the customers interest is more important that that of the owner. After all when you go out for diner for example your paying for a service of your choice, not what the owner wants you to have.

Had lunch with my workmate. Their lunch course menu is reasonable, and really fits our mood and stomach. Our lunch took 1.5 hrs in total, good to enjoy special lunch in a relaxing atmosphere, but might be not for quick business lunch.

Classy Dinner Spot
Brought my wife here for her birthday. Food was amazing, wine list was deep and all encompassing. The service was terrific and the Opera singer that came by every so often was magical. Definitely coming back.

Oldie but Goodie
L'Opera has been around a long time and consistently performs at a high level. The food is good with a wide variety from which to choose. Vegitarian and Vegan options plentiful. The setting is in active downtown Long Beach.
The servers are attentive without being obnoxious and the pacing is perfect for a relaxing dinner.
We had the set menu including salad and main course as well as a dessert. The portions were slightly smaller, but we were well-fed without feeling stuffed.
Use the valet parking - the lot across the street shows $5 but is that per hour, not per night, so $6 with the validation for valet is good.

My husband and I recently had the pleasure of dining at L'Opera. We only had an hour before we had to be somewhere else and probably would have just written the place off as another romantic Italian eatery had it not been for our waiter, Scott. This man was a genius. From his exquisite knowledge of wines and spirits to his passionate take on the various menu items, Scott made our entire night. My husband and I live in Los Angles but have already decided we will happily make the hour-long drive back to Long Beach just so we can spend more time at L'Opera.

Great Dining in Long Beach
It has been years since I've been in downtown Long Beach. So much has changed. Great Restaurants and shopping. L'Opera is in the middle of it all. A great Italian place. Professional waiters and staff. Food that you can only dream about. It's So good. A little pricey, but worth it. Romantic table for two, or a group of family & friends. L'Opera will meet your needs.

Always a fine dining experience!
L'Opera is my "go to" special friends and special clients dining location. I can always rely of the food and service to be expectional!

A find in Long Beach
I hadn't been in the downtown Long Beach area in probably 25 years and was pleasantly surprised at how much nicer the area is and my brief visit was highlighted by the wonderful meal I enjoyed at L'Opera.
It was difficult to select amongst all the fine offerings and those who enjoy fine Italian cooking will certainly enjoy a visit to this restaurant.

I love this restaurant! I
I love this restaurant! I ask for a special dish, not on the menu, and it was exquisitely prepared! In fact, someone sitting at another table over heard the server provide me with the meaning of the dishes' name and she was quite intrigued that the server knew the historicity... Upon leaving he restaurant, I passed a woman on the sidewalk and she asked me what did I think of the restaurant. I told her on a scale of 1-10, ten being the best it was a10! She she replied w-o-w thanks so much and walked away with a smile on her face...

Great dining experience
We were celebrating my husbands birthday. We enjoy this restaurant for special occasions and they don't ever disappoint. The service is excellent and the wait staff is very attentive. Also great tasty menu selections.

Dinner before the Theater...
My husband and I went to L'Opera for the first time after living in LB for 7 years! We really enjoyed ourselves. We had a 6 p.m. reservation and had to be at the Int.City Theater for a play by 8 p.m.. We were seated immediately by the window facing the metro - so the view from this restaurant are of the action in the city. Our waiter was quick to get our wine order, bring water and delicious warm Italian bread. We ordered form the special 3 course Summer Menu. I had the Caesar salad, Salmon & Tiramasu and my husband had the Calamari, Flat Iron steak and pudding with fresh berries. We each had a glass of wine, too. Everything was delicious.
The service was wonderful and we enjoyed meals very much!

great place for a special occasion
The atmosphere and ambience of this restaurant are great, decor lovely, makes a great place for a special occasion or just for a date or a night out with a significant other. But must add that the food is nothing to write home about,, I 'm a foddie and I expected more in terms of dining experience for the price. Their deserts are the best they have to offer by far. I'd still recommend this restaurant though, you can;t beat the atmosphere really, and the service was very good, staff was friendly and helpful.
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Still the best after 20 years!
Andrew our Server was great; he has been a fixture since L'Opera opened! We started the night with sharing Carbonara made with Papardella Pasta, Not on the Menu, Just ask! Delicious. We had Osso Bucco and a Special Pasta wrapped Butternut Squash as our entrees. Both were amazing as always. Finished by sharing their divine "Maria" dessert, a chocolate lovers dream!

L'Opera ~Great deal on Sunday eve
Really quiet on Sunday, perfect timing, caught some of the 49er game, had a sangiovese waiting on sweetie to be an hour late...Bar is amazing, unbelievable sooth sipping rum was a cool suggestion. Duece by the window, salmon special "Dakota?" applecider, sweet/tart crispy, good portions on the fish and a flat iron steak. Should have hadthe calamari instead, Ceasar salads were too small for a $35 special on a Sun(use a smaller plate?) For Desert get the creamy custard fresh berry deal is exceptional. Get a half order of the butternut ravioli. They took really good care of us, reminded me a little of Antonellos, wanted to compare veal chops but fish was perfect...enjoy

Great Business Lunch Spot
Outstanding food beginning with a wide array of fresh salads and diverse daily specials, pasta is a specialty served with the willingness to customize. Want salmon or chicken on a salad or pasta? These folks are pleased to accommodate. Professional, attentive service without being intrusive allows for business to be conducted while enjoying the sunny, open atmosphere. A selection of homemade sorbets and ice creams is a nice way to end the meal. Ask for a table by the window and make sure to get the valet ticket validated. Parking is still $6 plus tax but there is not much choice.

First step, making a reservation
First step, making a reservation on-line was easy. The restaurant is very elegant and exudes a great ambiance. The service was fantastic and attentive. We sampled a variety of dishes and appetizers amongst our group, and everyone came away very pleased and satisfied. I would highly recommend it for any special occasion, except if it involves young children.

What A Gem!
Don't live here anymore but forgot what a great experience one can have here. Brought clients and was NOT disappointed. Fabulous waiter who guided us through wonderful dishes and wines we could easily maneuver in our limited time pre-theatre. He also watched the clock and had us out the door on time. Can't think of anything that could have improved.
Thank you, L'Opera ... back soon!

L'Opera nothing compairs
I've always seen this place passing pine, and i've been to surrounding restaurants and bars, and told myself i would always try it. Its by far the best place that i've had pasta, i would go there again, and i would recommend it to everyone. Service was outstanding and being that it was my time the server was willing to breakdown the menu, and offer suggestions on what would be more friendly for me too eat being a vegetarian. There was a young women who sang in the restaurant throughout the evening and her voice was amazing. I really can't see myself going to any other restaurant for pasta in Long Beach, the pasta is fresh, the menu if gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan friendly. Just by far the best. A+++

Generally, very good
Generally we enjoyed our dinner at L'Opera. Unfortunately, my husband's filet mignon steak was over cooked. He asked for medium rare to rare and it came medium to medium well. The salmon special on the prix fixe menu was OK, nothing fabulous. The panna cotta was excellent. We enjoyed the generous serving of carpaccio, enough for four really. I would go back due to it's general level of excellence but they do need to work on steak cooking.
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
We love this restaurant! The food is excellent and we will definitely return. Scott was our waiter and he made our dining experience even better!
9/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was excellent, the service and believe it or not the prices weren't too expensive. I'm definitely going back!
9/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
I was not expecting too much from a restaurant on a Main Street where I imagine tourists frequent but l'opera surprised me. The first surprise was that it was Italian as opposed to French, contrary to its name. The second surprise was that the food was actually very good, inventive, detailed and well presented. The third surprise was the bill, delightfully reasonable. I could have paid double what I did and still considered it to be good value.
9/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
First time's a charm!
I attended this restaurant because of a recommendation from previous attendees and my experience was phenomenal! The food was outstanding and the cocktails were top of the line. However, I would like quicker service next time when we are waiting for our food to be ordered. This is a good place to bring your lover for a romantic dinner!
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Had a wonderful time with my family, the food was so so yummy , the service was great. We love coming here and will continue to do so.
9/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
L'Opera is always wonderful
If they only still sang to you at the table it would be incredible!!
Everything food wise is fabulous.
The service is beyond great and fun.
Loved the wine.
Only problem at all was the cherry tomato that squirted me in the eye. But, I think that was my fault.

Favorite Spot in Long Beach
We LOVE L'Opera! We have dinner here each season of the Long Beach Symphony. It's become one of our favorite traditions!
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
A wonderful experience!
"I love the relaxed but elegant feel of this place" can't wait to go back and try other items on the menu....i highly recommend the meatballs for an appetizer...they were excellent!
if you are a wine drinker, try the Flowers chardonnay! unreal good!
I could not decide what to get, so i told the waiter i'd like a white fish and from there he and I created my own meal, it was amazing.
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
If you want to pretend you're dining in Europe or NYC, this is the place for you. Food, wine, service, setting, lighting, and noise level were perfect. and most of the patrons were actually dressed for dinner...Not a pair of shorts in sight. .A delightful spot...and totally unexpected in a place as garish as Long Beach's tourist area. Picked because it is a short walk to the Terrace Theater.

Geat Service; Food Was Average
My wife and friends have dined here in the past, and each time the service has been excellent. It was this time too. I would recommend this restaurant for a late evening repast, a business lunch and/or just for a desert after the Symphony.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Perfect Thursday night dinner
Great dinner, squash soup and veal chops. We've been eating here since it opened.

We have become regulars!!
La Opera is a favorite because they have consistently great food and a very nice selection of fine wines.
10/31/2013 5:00:00 PM
L'Opera is consistently excellent. I love it for special occasions and celebrations. I don't always wait for a reason to eat there. Lunch is a bargain. Dinner prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food and service. You can't go wrong at L'Opera.
11/1/2013 5:00:00 PM
Food, Wine & Service - impeccable!
It is always a wonderful meal, excellent wine choices, and the service is amazing!
11/3/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great food and wine
We often choose L'Opera for special occasions, and they never disappoint. I love going to a restaurant where trying to decide on which of many delicious entrees I will have is a happy problem. The wine list is extensive, and our waiter was very knowledgeable and recommended some great wines for us.
11/5/2013 4:00:00 PM
Lovely evening celebrating our 22 year anniversary. The Maitre De immediately commented on our special evening as did the waiter and bar tender! (word travels fast booking thru Open Table) the food was beyond delicious, the bar tender Rylan made a mean martini :) - The waiter did not charge us for our corkage fee (which was a great price actually of $15) - I was very impressed he made this gesure on our special night. We will defintely be going back.....

One of the Best
In Long Beach's Pine Street "restaurant row", and surrounding area, there are plenty of fine dining establishments from which to choose. L'Opera is certainly one of the best.
Housed inside an old bank building, the ambiance harks back to the 30's and 40's, with a certain "comfortable majesty". The wait staff is attentive and knowledgeable, the food is excellent, and the overall dining experience is memorable.
Do try the desserts - different, exciting, and tasty!
11/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
Dishes are Culinary Creations
Chef Walter, and owners choose the freshest of ingredients, surely the reddest of tomatoes, then mingle & mince them so considerably (try the mezzelune d'aragosta). These half moon shaped ravioli are homemade, and stuffed with ricotta cheese & lobster, finished with fresh tomato and marsala sauce. It's a colorful and creative fare.
L'Opera is the best Italian Ristorante this side of Roma: Their dishes are culinary creations and it's service is classic fine dining, at it's best.
11/12/2013 4:00:00 PM
The food was great as usual. Our waiter was not as efficient or timely as we had before. The busboy was more present than our waiter. I wouldn't say it was "bad" service, it wasn't to the higher standard I expect at L'Opera. The food was outstanding and we had a good time. It was a extremely busy night so I am glad we had reservations.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Everything was Great.
The staff was very sensitive and caring. The food was great.
11/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
A great dining experience
If you're looking for a restaurant with a great ambience and food to match, this is it!!!
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
Food was very good but not
Food was very good but not unbelievable (except for the carpaccio and steak tartar appetizer). Our service was prompt and courteous, but not particularly engaging. Overall it was a good meal. Each dish was well executed and presented. L'opera is consistent and an excellent choice in Long Beach.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
we had a nice party
There were 6 of us. We ate family style, ordering several dishes in 4 courses. We were all stuffed. Some of us asked for things off the menu and they were happy to prepare food just for us. They let us dine slowly, there was wonderful wine and food.

L' Opera delights the palate
L'Opera's Fall Menu welcomes in The Holidays with seasonal ingredients and savory "Speciali Del Giorno". We started with the tender and non-oily calamari fritti, it does not taste deep fried. It is served with a spicy vodka tomato sauce. It was the perfect pairing to our second choice, Girasoli Di Pollo: ,Sunflower shaped red-chili ravioli, filled with roasted chicken, ricotta & asiago cheeses, sautéed in a golden-autumn tomato sauce, and finished with fresh arugula. So delicately delicious. The panna cotta, is silky and creamy, a tasty Italian milk-custard intoxicated with Frangelico and served with fresh berries. L' Opera never dissents a diner but rather delights the palate.

Amazing food, great for groups
I dined at L'opera with a large group (10 people). Everyone loved their food and I appreciative for accomodating a vegan meal! The only thing I'd suggest is bringing food out faster. It seemed like there was quite a long wait between courses.
I would definitely go there again, especially with a smaller group.

One of Best in Long Beach
A party of five of us dined at L'Opera on Friday night and enjoyed every moment of it. The food was absolutely delicious; the server (Tina) was grand - she was attentive, responsive and friendly.
Thank you for a great time.

Taste of Italy in Long Beach
L'Opera was great! The dining experience is not to disappoint and food is delicious and tasty. The wine of choice was a Napa selection Justin- Cab. Excellent., smooth and perfect. I can always appreciate a good wine. Thank you L'Opera.

Just what we were looking for
Our recent dining experience at L'Opera is just what we were looking for in celebrating the holidays with friends: good food, good wine, quiet atmosphere for catching up with friends and an elegant holiday ambiance. We especially enjoyed the carpacio starter and short rib raviolis entree. We have been dining at L'Opera for years and we can always count on the good food and atmosphere.
