Most of our food was really
Most of our food was really good but our experience did not live up to the expectations we had based on the great reviews on Yelp. The service started up very slow and we had to wave someone down to place our order. Also, it took them so long to bring in our wine that we had almost finished our starters when that came in. Main courses and desserts were really good though and the ambiance is nice.

Wonderful evening! From the
Wonderful evening! From the melt-in-your-mouth liquid parmesan balls accompanying the green salad, to the rich and delicious wild mushroom sunchoke soup, everything was beautifully presented and delightful! Accompanied by Gruet bubbles, the meal was perfect! Will go back again and again...

It provides spectacular food
It provides spectacular food . I thought I detected Napa Valley . Then we were informed that the chef trained at The French Laundry ! I believe it . A great place for a wonderful meal with intelligent service and attention to detail that I find unsurpassed on the North Shore. We will be back.

food was ok, but nothing spectacular. Great ambiance.

We almost cancelled our resevation
We almost cancelled our resevation after reading a description in Chicago Magazine which implies that Quince is a duck restaurant. Management assured us that this was not true. The food was excellect, well prepared and displayed and the menu had a dish for all. Shame on Chicago Magazine........

We come to Quince often, and
We come to Quince often, and the food is always excellent, the service very good to excellent. My pork entrée (seared tenderloin, with caamelized onions and leeks) was perfect, and desserts - particularly ice creams and sorbets and quite good, too. It's usually a quiet and subdued place, but this past Saturday a large and obnoxious group was the only sour note; wish the staff had had the stones to suggest they were not alone in a fine-dining place.

My wife and I really enjoyed
My wife and I really enjoyed the tasting menu with wine pairings. Each of the five courses was fantastic, the service was impeccable and the price was a great deal. Quince was perfect for an elegant and romantic night out. I highly recommend it.

I took my parents there this
I took my parents there this weekend and they thought it was great. The Spanish Prawn appetizer was very cool and the Foie Gras was delicious! The only reason why I'm giving four stars for the food is that my Ravioli dish was extremely salty, it would have been good without the excessive saltiness. Other than that everything was great!

great place for quiet celebration
price are a bit high but the celebration was a success. Service was gracious.

The food was terrific but unfortunately the quality of service didn't keep pace. Definitely worth another try especially if our server was having a bad night.

Reunion of a sort
Lovely dinner with son and daughter-in-law (whose late arrival from St Louis was treated patiently and graciously by waitstaff) and friend last seen 43 years ago. Food was delicious to taste, glorious to behold and delightful to hear about from the deliverer. Quince never fails to be the best place to eat in an area that is replete with tempting restaurants.

A Culinary Experience
My family and I dined at Quince to celebrate two very special occasions. The service was outstanding, the presentation of the food and entire experience was amazing yet never did it feel pretentious. All of our food - lobster appetizer, seasonal spring vegetable soup and entrees (walleye, lamb, steak, pork) were so delicious and beautifully served, as well. Absolutely the best of the North Shore!

Exeptional Dining IN Evanston
This is a quality restaurant -- one of the two or three finest on the North Shore. It's pricy, but worth it. The waitstaff was knowledgeable and efficient. The food presentation was outstanding. I'll go back.

I've been living in Evanston for a few years and happened to come across Quince while searching online for a good birthday restaurant. It was absolutely wonderful--I recommend the Chef's Tasting Menu.

Quiet Quince Quite Worthy
To celebrate our anniversary I was looking for a nice quiet spot outside the Loop with good service and great cuisine. Quince staff delivered quite nicely. It was a cool evening, otherwise we would have sat outside on the front porch. Chef Motto really likes to pair and contrast texture, color, and flavor. For an appetizer I ordered the Foie Gras Confit while my wife had the soup de jour. The Foie Gras was excellent with the savory granola providing a mild crunch that contrast very well with the frothed peas and pistachio puree. Our entrees were both outstanding, the Lamb merguez (done to perfection and prepared somewhat like venison) and the Walleye with saffron gnocchi. Other reviewer complaints about portion size are unfounded.

Creative and delicious!
Quince is an American version of the exquisite satellite bistros we love in Paris. Wonderful presentation, local produce and unique flavor combos are highlights. Excellent service and wine. On our two visits there this month we thoroughly enjoyed the ravioli, two superb fish dishes and very creative, magnificent desserts. Housed in the Homestead Inn (a cozy place to stay instead of chain hotels), Quince is a special dining experience that we recommend highly for foodies!

Great meal, tired ambiance
The food was fantastic. Nicely conceived and executed. The price was very reasonable. Service was friendly – the order went in for a soup that the waiter learned was going to be shared and they brought two smaller bowls and served us two portions: an appreciated gesture. And knowledgeable: the suggested wine pairings were well chosen and questions about unfamiliar ingredients well-answered. The setting has some charm: especially a veranda like space out front. But the decor was muddled and tired: neither the adjoining hotel or the restaurant appeared interested in becoming a vibrant scene. As a result it seemed an "outstanding choice" to go with the parents or grandparents, for foodies, and for those seeking to avoid a trendy spot.

great place for a celebration
We made a late reservation at Quince to accommodate our son who was flying in that night. His flight got in later than expected, and although the server said they generally stop taking orders at the 9:30 reservation time, they graciously accommodated us and our son and his girlfriend without making us feel the least bit rushed. We sent a photo of the menu to them in the cab, and ordered for them at the same time we did - we began our starters before they arrived and were able to have our entrees served all together when they arrived. Seamless transition, the staff was very attentive and the food was fantastic!!

Quince is a very attractive restaurant with delicious food and good service. I did the wine pairings and they were excellent.
6/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food and atmosphere but my husband thought his lamb portion was quite small for the price.

Fabulous Charming Restaurant
The meal was superb! The chefs do an excellent job in regards to details, flavors and presentation Everything was wonderful! including the service!! We all tried something different and everybody was pleased with their meals. Not often do i say taht a meal was exceptional, but every time I eat at Quince i have the same reaction to all of their dishes.

Memorable Anniversary Dinner
Celebrated our wedding anniversary on a Saturday evening. Food and service were excellent. Only complaint is that our table was very close to those on either side of us. We heard more of their conversations than we needed to hear.

Charmed as always
Quince consistently provides an outstanding dining experience, with a fabulous and creative menu, exceptional wines, and attentive service. We have returned again and again for special occasions, and will continue to do so. Without doubt our favorite spot for fine dining in Evanston.
8/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
We try to make Quince at least two times a year. We're not foodies but it never disappoints in delivering consistent quality in menu and service. On our most recent evening we chose halibut and trout as entrées. Both were fresh and exquisitely prepared and creatively garnished. The wine selection enhanced both the appetizer and entre. Of particular note was the kale preparation in the garden salad. Service well timed an professional. Good place for a quiet dinner; uninterrupted by waitstaff pushing table turns. Evanston is lucky to retain this "neighborhood gem".

Best of the Best
Superb. Best soft shell crab I ever had. And fresh. Also the largest I've ever had, which gave it a steak-like texture and mouthfeel. The entire meal was a delight in every way.
8/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Our appetizers and main course were presented in a unique fashion which highlighted the various supporting food items. All the flavors brought the dining experience to a higher level.
Our waiter was knowledgeable about each component of the meal.
The wine pairings were "spot-on."

Had not had dinner that this
Had not had dinner that this restaurant for awhile. If anything it has gotten better. In addition, Quince seems to be sourcing its ingredients from more local vendors which is something to be encouraged. My short rib entree was excellent as was my wife's fish entree. Clearly, Quince is one of Evanston's better choices for dining.

Lovely food - a little pricey...
My partner and I hopped up to Quince on the spur of the moment for a meal this past Saturday. We got in fairly easily which was surprising but the restaurant seemed to be doing well when we arrived in terms of enjoying a good if mostly older crowd. Started with a delicious corn soup and followed with a vegetarian pasta option. Presentation was lovely, service was very friendly and everything was tasty. Generally, main courses were around $30 and although there had clearly been a good amount of detail and care put into the plates, I did not think that the quality of the meal warranted the price. My partner's chicken was just a wee bit dry and my pasta was lovely but not particularly memorable.

Outstanding dining experience.
Excellent food, service and ambience. Service is respectful of table conversation. You can speak in a hushed conversation and be heard. Wine list is excellent and wine pairing selections are perfect.

Excellent food, great service. Great for a special dinner.

Delicious food, beautiful on porch
We love the food here - wonderful preparations of fish, chicken, etc., and great salads and desserts. This is a pretty upscale restaurant, with innovative dishes and fresh ingredients. Delicious bread from nearby Hewn bakery, fun cocktails, extensive wine menu. We love eating outside in the summer and fall, then taking a walk around the beautiful neighborhood.
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
If you live on the north shore of Chicago, you know the truth - good food is hard to come by. While this restaurant is quiet and not trendy in its decor, the food is of high quality and would appeal to foodies or those craving great food without traveling all the way downtown. Definitely worth a visit.
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
quietly elegant, eminently creative, beautifully presented, perfectly proportioned, varied. Fine dining, unfussy at its best. I've never awarded all five stars before. Most memorable, a dish with selected morsels (I want to say morseaux) of pork with a truffle flavored sauce which infused every mouthful. Bravo! pricey, but well worth it.
10/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Pricey but good
Well prepared and tasty food; attentive service--not too much, not too little. But it is pricey so we'll limit it to very special occasions.

We hadn't heard prior about
We hadn't heard prior about Quince; I open-tabled due to its proximity to Northwestern campus. It turned out to be a very pleasant surprise and a wonderful evening. We did the tasting menu, which in our minds is the best way for a chef to show their mastery. I did the wine pairings. Having dined at Alinea, French Laundry, Charlie Trotters et al, I will tell you that Quince held its own.
The staff was pleasant and accommodating, and made a great time easy and accessible. Kudos to Tony, who was our server. All in all, a great evening and a superb (and reasonably affordable) fine dining experience.

quince is superb !
The food and service at Quince are superb. Teeming with flavors from unique fruits and vegetables, the entrees are a delight to the palate and an artistic display. Our waitor selected a yummy sparkling wine from Spain to kick off our wedding anniversary celebration. My wife and I shared an appetizer of ravioletti, delicious tender, small ravioli with pillows of pumpkin puree tucked inside.. Cobia ,a special fish much like swordfish but more tender and refined was my choice of entree. A medley of vegetables pureed to perfection surrounded the fish and enhanced its flavor. I hated to take the last bite of this tasty, perfectly cooked treasure. it was so delicious.
Thank you Quince for the most delicious meal of the year.

A regular favorite - never fails!
My office brings in a lot of guests from out of town, and Quince is almost always our first choice for where to bring them. I have been probably a dozen times over the years and have NEVER had a bad dining experience OR anything less than delightful service. The meal was wonderful, as always. The worst you could say is that some of the dishes were a bit showy or fussy in presentation in ways that didn't benefit texture or taste (I might say this of the maple mousse, for example). But everything was delicious, and the sweet potato soup and the snapper were real standouts. We were eating from a limited menu for work reasons, and they still produced a vegan option on the spot for one guest, which was terrific as well.

Really enjoyed Quince, all
Really enjoyed Quince, all around fabulous. Had a drink in the bar before dinner and the bar could use a bit of an update. The dining room was cozy and lovely.

Wonderful find in Evanston
I was looking for a restaurant that we hadn't eaten at before in Evanston for my husband's birthday. Our friends joined us who are definite foodies. We all enjoyed our experience. The intimate, cozy ambience was perfect for our celebration. The food was presented in a lovely way with some flavors and choices we had never seen before. From steak to lobster to quail to snapper, we all enjoyed our dinners. I would definitely recommend Quince, especially for people looking for a memorable meal.

outstanding food but cold feet
First time at Quince and did not know what to expect. The food was excellent. Highly recommend the polenta and the Snapper was perfectly cooked. Ambience is elegant with main dining room broken into several smaller rooms. Our party of 4 was placed in what I would call a 'converted porch" in a table that was next to the outdoor wall. The entire dinner my feet were like ice cubes so it was difficult to truly enjoy the dinner with such a chill. Next time I will specifically ask to be seated in a different room. Service was good and wine list very extensive but good choices in all price ranges.

Wonderful spot in Evanston
Quince is just excellent all around. The food impresses foodies and satisfies regular guys, the service and setting are excellent and friendly and the atmosphere is lovely. Great place for a romantic dinner, and there is no place in town that is better for a quiet conversation with your dining partners.

Beyond Great Food
My husband and I thought the food was spectacular; The best food we've had in ages.
And the service was excellent.
11/30/2013 4:00:00 PM
I liked the quiet atmosphere in this restaurant, and the service was superb. But we wanted to order some espresso, but only coffee was available. I would think that a restaurant of this calibre could afford an espresso machine. The food was tasty, and presented in a n aesthetically pleasing manner.
