The food was very good starting with the flavorful crispy samosa for appetizer, the Nizami Gosht (lamb) was tender in an outstanding sauce for dipping the garlic Naan. Chicken tikka trio was very good too. Great service and will rocommend this restaurant to friends.

Great food, odd & good service
The food was surprisingly really good and the ambiance was great - I had dinner with 3 other friends on a Saturday evening and it was a good pick. The only weird thing was the service - it was almost like they were overcompensating for the place being new... they were OVERLY attentive. We were laughing that maybe it's because we're just used to the lackadaisical hipster attitude service of the Mission, but it was a little irritating at one point. Otherwise, a great place to start your Saturday evening out.

Fantastic twist on traditional
Fantastic twist on traditional Indian fare. Lots of unexpected delicious numbers (cauliflower appetizer was amazing as was the cod curry).

Wow what a difference between visits! First dinner quiet as could be. We could chat away. This visit, the bar was going full tilt at 6 p.m. Were advised sound barrier would be installed...they really need it!
Food was excellent. Really enjoyed everything. Leftovers next day also delish.
Would not want to go back to visit until the noise is under control.

A third visit, another different experience. Last visit on Friday, was so loud...
This visit was quiet again. Enjoyed good food and conversation.

I like to come here when I am looking to share a romantic dinner with my partner. The ambiance is great, the food is wonderful, the service is fantastic.
The cost is in line with restaurants of equal quality.

They wouldn't let us get happy
They wouldn't let us get happy hour prices unless we went to the bar. So we had to leave the table and go to the bar. Being the only customers in the restaurant at the time, that can be a bit wearisome.

Great Food & Service
We were greeted in a very friendly manner and introduced to the "Happy Day" cocktail menu where Happy Hour lasts longer than an hour. ;) The young lady that took our order down memorized a very lengthy order with no errors and full detail - which surprised our large group of 7! The food was excellent. I particularly enjoyed the chili naan, butter chicken and biryani. We will definitely be returning.

We were very surprised at
We were very surprised at the level of food served here. The staff was so helpful and outgoing as well. We will definitely plan a once a month trip to the City for Amber Dhara.

My husband and I love food with flavor. We have both tried alot of Indian food and Amber Dhara is 100% at the top of our list. I would say what puts them above other Indian restaurants is their drink and appetizer list. The really put a twist on the food and it is amazing. I highly recommend this place. This was my second time and my husbands first.

amazing - fresh take on Indian food
Our group of 6 of long time friends loved our dinner at Amber Dhara - Valencia. The food was delicious - great combinations of flavors.
Some of our favorite appetizers included: Samosas (some of our group said they were the best samosas they had ever eaten), Goat Cheese Tukda - leavened bread with pine nuts, goat cheese and zatar, avocado poori and my favorite, the tandoori paneer broccoli. And these were just the starters to our meal...
It was a special meal - great food, beautiful presentation, nice atmosphere, quiet enough early (7pm) to talk with friends and enjoy a great evening.

Yummy upscale Indian food
Disclaimer - I love Indian food, been to India and was raised on mostly northern Indian food.
As a resident of the mission I am so happy that I now have a variety of Indian food for whatever my pallete and social needs.
Amber Dhara is definitely on the more higher end foodie experience .
I have dined there several times - including two recent business dinners.
Their food is delectable, fine tasting and with a huge variety.
One business meal was with 8 Indian co-workers - all of them loved the place.
Highly recomend for a great light to heavy dinner out.

Best Indian food I have ever had
Had another terrific meal with perfect service as well. The palak chat appetizer is a must. Crunchy and beautifully spiced baby spinach fried in chickpea flour was divine. Shrimp sofiyani was scrumptious and the kale, asparagus and mushroom labs dear also incredibly delicious. Server was attentive without being intrusive. Wonderful meal all round.

hip modern Indian
Loved this place! Hip decor, red walls, blue accent lighting, high ceilings, tables far enough apart so you can actually talk, service friendly, efficient, and food outstanding unusual Indian food - unusual presentation, fresh not heavy, terrific drinks and beers Will return.

Upscale, modern, and *delicious*
I took my girlfriend to Amber Dhara for her birthday dinner. It was as perfect as perfect can get. The service was attentive, the Butter Chicken was super delicious, and the cocktails were innovative and tasty. Her favorite dish, tho, Avocado Poori - was made from scratch just for her. That really made her evening!
Innovative takes on long-time classics is what really separates Amber Dhara from other restos in its class and set it a notch above. I've been a big fan of Chef Manish Tyagi since his days at Washington DC's Rasika West End - and am so psyched that he's landed in San Francisco.

Inventive, elegant and quiet
Many of the dishes here are classics, perfectly and authentically prepared, and others are delightful modern interpretations of classics. We had very tasty appetizers, including chicken prepared three ways in the tandoor, and a cauliflower dish made with coconut that was delicious. The mains were also great and the service attentive without being intrusive. One of the reasons we liked this place for this dinner for five is that you can hear conversation easily without a lot of noise. My only (small) complaint is that the specialty cocktails were too sweet for my taste, but those who got regular martinis and such were more than happy.
