My husband had chosen this restaurant for his 31st Birthday dinner. I had never heard of it before but we are always looking for something new and how glad am I we found this place! We didn't realize it was the same location as our favorite brunch restaurant Half & Half. The entire staff went more than the extra mile to make our night memorable. On our way home my husband and I recalled each dish, how everything was perfectly timed, and how amazing the service was. I had no intention of having a alcoholic beverage as I typically don't care for one. But whenever he offered free bubbly, I tried it and was amazed at how it was what I never knew I wanted. I then ordered a glass for the meal. We will be back. THANK YOU for everything!!!!!!!!

Excellent food and wine pairings
Excellent food and wine pairings - sommelier was a bit too showy however. Very good cocktails - lots of house made ingredients and good balance. I really liked the use of the pipettes with the amuse-bouche.

Food was great. Service was
Food was great. Service was good especially the wine sommelier.
Our waiter was good, the vodka straight up cocktail was not chilled. My partner has been in the bar industry for a long time and told him the vodka was warm. He said it was shaken but did not offer to take it back. We realize this is not a place to have cocktails but you should know how to prepare them if you sell them.

Exciting and delicious food
Exciting and delicious food on a 3 course tasting menu in restaurant that transforms itself from a popular breakfast-lunch spot in Clayton. Excpetional service with all people helping your table so you never feel you are left waiting for "your" server. Wish there was more light to be able to see the food and the menues without turning on the iphone. Expensive dinner, but worth it. Look forward to the menue change and we'll definitely go back.

Our server was outstanding
Our server was outstanding and the small plates were exquisite. The cost of te wine pairings was a little more than I expected but over all it was a very fun experience.

Fine French Dining
We were blown away by the level of service...it helped that we went on a Wednesday night. We got the 3 course meal and everything was quite fancy, so it helps to be a foodie.

Best food we have had in St Louis
We moved here 6 mo ago.
While expensive, LCG is hands down the best food we have had in St. Louis.
A great spot.

Our group of 5 went to Little Country Gentleman to celebrate a special event, and had the 3 course dinner plus dessert. Three hours later, we left after a lovely evening of excellent food, interesting wine and cocktails, and spot-on-service. The staff didn't hover, but were always available when we needed them (for either wine tips or to answer a question about one of the dishes). We came in as fans of molecular gastronomy, so we were prepared for the charism of this specific restaurant and weren't disappointed. Best dinner out ever.

Astonishing New Flavor
Little Country Gentleman is anything but little on flavor and presentation. The tastes and textures were surprising to my taste buds. One of the best dining experiences ever. The 3 course meal was perfect! You just have to savor every bite. I'm drooling just thinking about the mushrooms and fresh herbs.

We had one of the best meals in our 10 years in St. Louis. We chose the three course tasting menu and added a cheese course at the end. It was all marvelous and the service was exceptional. One of our party does not drink but the bartender whipped up a unique and delicious appletini "mock tail". A 5 star meal.

Great food and Artisan Spirits
Nothing bad to say about this experience. A pricey night out, but I will be back.

Much to like, Some Issues though
We had a nice weekend dinner here. VERY limited and tiny menu, but fun and flavorful options made it a unique experience. Downtown Clayton is awesome, lots to see and do nearby. Great bars and restaurants abound in this area. However, our server could not handle some basic red vs. white wine questions... the wine steward was good, but our server was shockingly uninformed. When your best tasting menu is $102 the server needs to know much MORE than just a red vs. a white wine, each server should be much sharper than this guy was. Again, the atmosphere is unique, we love the brunch at the same location (called Half&Half by day) and we are glad Clayton is experimental. BUT for a 5-star tasting menu--try Niche.

Interesting Food, Flawed Service
The menu and food here is interesting. A very limited menu, but some unique flavors and options. This is a great brunch place (during the day, it's called half&half) and the casual bistro style and location are great. The very limited menu may be off-putting to some, but we enjoyed our food. Service was spotty. Our server struggled with some very very very basic wine questions (white vs. red) and each time a course came out, they got it wrong on "who got what" and a different person brought the food. I want to like this place because of the location and innovative food. They got a lot of things right, but when your 8 course tasting menu is $102 a person, the server needs to know something about wine. There was a wine steward who was good.

Quite an Experience
Had the grand tasting menu for my fiance's birthday. Plan for a 3-4 hour meal. All of the food was excellent - deconstructed reuben, pork mole, foie gras donut, beef tongue bun. I think the only low point of the evening was the egg dish. There wasn't enough texture & the barely cooked yolk just wasn't my thing. Overall, the food was wonderful & adventerous - some was a little scary but excellent (looking at you, pig's blood truffle). The pacing was somewhat hit or miss - food came out quickly at the beginning, but you could tell the kitchen was getting bogged down in the middle. We were originally seated at a small table, but the hostess graciously moved us to a back booth for some additional privacy. Cocktails were great too.

Wow! 5 stars in every category
Just walking in the door we had a sense this was going to be good. The bartender offered to makes whatever appealed and when I asked for a Pimm's Cup he brought forth his own distilled version of Pimm's and created a gorgeous drink. That was just the beginning of a perfect evening. While the menu choices are limited, the staff / kitchen willingness to adapt was amazing and the results delicious. The 'amuse' was a foie gras donut that may have been the best thing I've ever tasted, but that would be unfair to the rest of the meal which was equally creative and delicious. Sending us home with a snickerdoodle cookie was the virtual icing on the cake to this wonderful meal. We'll be back, with friends, very soon.

Foodie find - almost excellent
This was a treat. As a Chicago transplant its good to see more new chefs and modern cuisine coming to town. I love the Half & Half for breakfast and was a big fan of medianoche so it was just a matter of timing to get to LCG. The food overall was really really good. The only problem was that the menu was so limited. I'm great with a tasting menu but that (per our waiter) was not available at 8:15 on a friday...because it t"akes hours". The 3-course menu with two choices at each was nicely done - its a bit limiting...and also a bit meager. That said - I'd go back.
The one complaint - the service. The wine guy - fantastic for more than wine - but the server was rude and condescending. Strange since he serves me coffee, too!

Was like a mini vacation
We enjoyed the restaurant so much. We felt like we stepped back in time w ambiance and service, but fast forwarded to very eclectic and modern take on food.
It was a treat. Felt like a cross between NYC, Boston, San Fran and Portland. But here in the Midwest. Actually got a table the night prior. No hassles like in those bigger cities.
Will return for the small plates someday soon. Didn't have the sitter for it this time around.
Really a treat of a dining experience.

Don't tell everyone you know!
Little Country Gentleman is a great addition to the St. Louis dining scene. It is small with ample staff to serve the tables..excellent attentiveness. The menu offered creativity, and the food was delicious. The bartender provided a menu of cocktails that engaged the reader...a fun and tasty list of options. This is the kind of small gem that one finds in the neighborhoods of NYC.... It is geared for adults who are looking for a palette pleasing evening and are willing to spend $42 for three interesting courses plus. We will return. Just don't tell anyone else about this terrific restaurant.

Not a very comfortable dining
Not a very comfortable dining experience. The food and the service was great. The seating needs to be figured better. The website says they open the bar at 5:00, but was still setting up the bar at 5:10 and kind of slow to get cocktails around while you waited for your table to be set up.

Best in STL
We had the Grand Taster here, and we thought it was the best fine-dining meal we've had in STL (in sixteen years of trying). The dishes were inventive, beautiful, and delicious, and they included ingredients I, at least, am unlikely to play with at home (ghost chilis, pig's ear, duck tongue). Some were good enough to bring tears to my eyes (the clam and pasta dish and the pork croquette both did this). Also, the wine pairings were outstanding. This is usually a disappointment with a tasting menu, but the wine director here found off-the-beaten path wines that were delicious and beautifully paired. The service was impeccable, and the setting simple and pleasant. I've had few meals this good anywhere, and never without paying at least double.

Favorite Gem in St. Louis
We've dined at Little Country Gentleman about six times since it opened in September. I continue to be amazed at how the menu is always different and yet perfect every time. Attention is paid to every detail here from the incredibly crafted cocktails to the careful wine selections and wonderful and friendly wine guidance from the wine director, to the consistently creative, beautiful, and scrumptious dinner selections. If you like wonderful dining experiences, this is a place not to be missed!!

Knocked it out of the park again
I recently dined for a second time at LCG. While the menu choices did not initially impress (tomatoes? fish with pig ear?), we ended up being wow'ed anyway. The cuisine remains creative, the service attentive almost to a fault, the cocktail menu a wonder of creative concoctions. The only thing that bothered me was the empty dining room. WTF, St. Louis??? Get your hineys in those chairs already!! Oh, one more thing I begrudgingly admit: I *have* had tastier chocolate chip cookies. (LCG, you can do better for your parting goodie bag.)

We just can't stay away from LCG
Our first visit to Little Country Gentleman was this May to celebrate a promotion. It was a fabulous evening and the high interest content of the dishes, wines and cocktails all provided a good environment for conversation. We then went back for a birthday celebration, and then realized that we could also hold onto this great dining experience by stopping in at the bar for cocktails and dessert more frequently. We love this place so much we really don't want to go anywhere else, and so keep finding reasons to return for what is always an interesting and tasty meal (albeit pricey). We've just heard that they are beginning to experiment with a more modestly priced Monday night experience, and are looking forward to trying that out.

2nd visit - as good as the first
Our second visit to Little Country Gentleman proved that our amazing first meal there wasn't a fluke. From the 'smoked' drinks to the deliciously gooey chocolate chip cookie 'to go' everything was delightful. I can't wait to return.

We went to LCG on a Thursday night. The food and the service were excellent! We had the 6 course tasting menu with wine pairings. My previous experience with tasting menus at other restaurants is that most of the dishes are great but then there are one or two that are less successful. Not with this tasting menu! Every course was phenomenal and the flavor profiles worked so well together! The intimate feel of the dining room and the view of the kitchen add to the charm. Our waiter, Alex, was friendly and knowledgeable--he made our dinner very fun. The sommelier paired excellent wines with the dishes and obviously enjoys what he does. I would definitely recommend LCG to friends (and already have).

Memorable culinary experience @ LCG
Great service & tasty, creative cocktails. The kitchen staff was spot on, with great attention to every detail, regarding ingredients, flavors, & textures in every dish. We had an Awesome dining experience. They're doing some amazing things at LCG.

Six Courses - All wonderful
They have changed in how many courses are offered and at what price. All to the good. Distinctive foods for all six courses, one as good as or better than the next. You get a choice between two items for each course ... and all are good since someone at our table had each. Service was excellent. We brought our own wine, but know there is a $30 a bottle corkage fee on weekends.
7/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great for foodies
The 6 course tasting was amazing. We will try the grand taster (23 courses) next time. The bar tender was creative and made the best mocktail for our pregnant guest that I've ever tried.
7/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
We really enjoyed sampling the various tastes. It was very creative cooking. Also enjoyed the drama of our sommelier who recommended an outstanding champagne. We had a good time.

A dining experience!
Wonderful 6 course dinner served exquisitely in a lovely atmosphere which felt like someone's dining room! The experience included small plates of cauliflower, heirloom and green fried tomatoes, bbq spare ribs, mussels, sable fish, and chocolate. Oooooh the chocolate. Expert service. My only criticism is that the sable fish should have been warm instead of room temperature at dinner... Chilled or room temp might have been fine at lunch. Nice wine list with a knowledgeable sommelier.
Tiny restaurant with tiny plates... Big on taste and delightful dining!

Little Country Gentleman never disappoints. The food is simply wonderful - creative, delicious, adventurous. The ever changing menu uses the freshest seasonal ingredients in unique and incredible combinations. Attention is paid to every detail from the cocktail to begin the evening, the attentive recommendations for wine selections based on menu choices and wine preferences, and the truly spectacular food. If you like to amazed and delighted, this is the place to go.

Favorite Spot for a Special Night
A friend came to visit from Chicago, and we wanted to return her favor of taking us to wonderful places in Chicago by taking her to a special place in St. Louis. The choice of Little Country Gentleman was easy based on its diverse, innovative, and ever-changing menu of wonderful food, it's cocktails that rival Chicago's Aviary, and it's wonderful wine selections. Although the restaurant now has a la carte options, we decided to go for the five-course meal. The dinner was amazing - exceeding even our high expectations based on past meals here. This place is such a gem! If you are looking for a relaxed evening of fine dining and perfectly attentive service, you have to try this place!

Had the grand taster with
Had the grand taster with my mother. Little did we know that it would take 3.5 hours! It took over 45 minutes just to a bite. Granted, the service was great and they offered free drinks for the wait.
Overall, the food was interesting, fun, playful, and in general delicious. Great place if you like taking small interesting bites, but a bad place if you are just hungry for food. The highlights were the oyster, sweetbreads, fish, beef cheeks/risotto, and of course, the 7 types of chocolate dessert (best being the flourless chocolate almond cake). They were well balanced and had good contrasting textures and unexpected flavors. Dishes that were good in theory but werent that great were the chorizo and shrimp n grits, cheeses, and sardines.

LCG - relax and enjoy!
We dined on a Saturday and both couples ordered opposite selections from the six-course menu. Offerings included several unique items (octopus with pickled potato on a salsa verde, gizzards, etc.) which were well prepared and extremely flavorful - the duck entrée was one of the best I've had. The server and wine steward were both informative, and service was excellent, however, our six courses were served over 3.5+ hours, so don't expect to be in a hurry. We ordered wine from the list and had some of our own for a $20 corkage fee. The cocktail menu is quirky and exciting so try something new from LCGs skilled mixologist. In short, a great place for foodies who want to relax for an evening over a variety of intriguing culinary selections.

Once again, Little Country Gentleman does not disappoint. From the amazing cocktails created by Mr. Moll to the cuisine that is both evolutionary and revolutionary, this restaurant is wonderful. Taste everything you can because even the bread and butter are delicious. Don't be overly concerned with unfamiliar ingredients, it all comes together beautifully. Go and enjoy.
