A small quant French design
A small quant French design restaurant in downtown Carmel. I found it to be so wonderful because we went early for dinner, 5:00 pm and no one was there yet, so we got individual and attentive service. Of course we got the best seats in the house, next to the window to look out at the busy street life. It was quiet and decorated in French style with colorful yellow and blue table clothes. Because I can't talk loudly, I am always attracted to restaurants that don't have a lot of noise and chatter going on all around you. We had a nice glass of wine to compliment our meal, and we both loved our meals. Recommend going there, as even my husband who is hard to please, liked this place.

good value for a fine dining
good value for a fine dining venue in Carmel. Our Rhone wine choice was sold out, which was replaced by an even better wine at the same price (much appreciated!) Decor was right out of places we've visited in Nice and Avignon, and the experience did not disappoint.

Great find in Carmel!
This is a wonderful little restaurant on a street off of the main drag in Carmel. It has a cozy and beautiful ambiance. Both service and the food were fantastic!

A Great Restaurant
Second visit. This time we went before a Sunset Center event. The food was excellent. The waiter was cheerful, appropriate, and took good care of us. The Maitre'd found us a table that suited us perfectly. I had the chicken for the second time which was again excellent. My friend had a salad as he had a late lunch which was excellent and ate some of my chicken. The chicken was uniquely prepared. I cannot recount the detail unfortunately. It is the only chicken dish on the menu.

Great for gluten free! Almost
Great for gluten free! Almost their entire menu is available GF. Even brought complimentary GF bread basket to my guest who was a GF diner.

Great Mother's Day experience
Dinner for Mother's Day hit the spot! Informal yet special, not stuffy. Attentive staff, authentic french menu selection, nice atmosphere. Duck w/brandies cherries divine. Osso bucco good, polenta better. Great soufflés! Kids liked their food, but better were the Tintin books delivered tableside upon arrived. Kids entertained, almost too much so, my oldest barely raised his head from reading - but they were happy, and we had a relaxed meal and my spouse enjoyed his food too! Rare that all four of us are satisfied like that, we kinda think of Carmel as a mix of hokey/touristy. This restaurant stays true to their French theme, but it ended up totally working for them and for us! Recommend to locals and visitors and we will dine there again.

Delicious food. A little slice of France in Carmel.

Great place to talk and linger...
Lovely authentic atmosphere that reflects both the charm of Carmel and French ambiance.

I am a gluten free diner by choice but have many friends who must dine gluten free for medical reasons. I chose to check out Le St. Tropez and ordered everything gluten free.
EVERYTHING was presented beautifully, served with grace, tasted wonderful, and they brought me fresh backed gluten free bread. Remarkable. I had the watermelon salad, the french onion soup (perfectly done), and the blue crab and spinach linguini.
Highly recommended to everyone.

Frienfky helpful service and great selection of gluten free!
Chairs not very comfortable but worth sitting thru a great meal.

I loved the chicken, and the dusted potatoes are a guilty and surprising pleasure. Everything is presented beautifully, and the service is just right: not rushing you, but never leaving you to wait because everyone working there takes responsibility for all the guests. For those who want different favors put together in a fresh and still traditional French way, this is a good place. It's French cooking, to American taste, without the "scary" ingredients that make Americans wary of French menus. We arrived unexpectedly earlier than our reservation on a busy weekend night, and they accommodated us immediately, for which we were grateful, as it did fill up shortly after that. We will go back again, no doubt!

Delightful dining experience
We enjoyed the restaurant, the food and the service.

A Carmel Must
What a nice little restaurant this is. Super French Onion soup, and the complementary appitizer plate was unexpected. Wife had escargot which she allowed me to have only one and dipping priviledges! I ate the California Bass, she had a veal dish and both were fine and good portions. No room for dessert and we so wanted the souffle for 2. The owner, Mary, stopped by for a visit and was an excellent hostess. All the wait folks pitched in and helped each other. I would recommend this place to anyone and will happily retrun on our next visit to this restaurant-laden town.

Gluten free heaven!
We had a wonderful dinner at Le St. Tropez. Lovely spot in the heart of Carmel. Food was great. Best gluten free pizza my kids have ever had. Virtually the entire menu could be made gluten free, and still tasty. Our server was very friendly and attentive, suggesting spots in the area to visit.

Dine here for Bastille Day dinner. Fun, celebratory atmosphere. Terrific food & wait staff. All the french favs, steak & pomme frites, mussels, roast duck, snails, etc. Chocolate mousse special was yummy! One drawn back, just a little warm temp-wise and we were sitting near the door by the front window (that didn't open.) Very happy we didn't opt for the table near the fireplace!

France, in your own back yard…
A midweek visit for dinner was very good in all ways. The food quintessentially French from escargots to the souffle; attentive and informed servers; and the ambiance was like being in a country inn. There are regional dishes like the braised rabbit and the old familiars like coq au vin. Be sure to save room for the souffle desert.
Le St. Tropez is rapidly becoming our favorite go-to place whenever we visit in Carmel.

Wonderful Southern French cuisine..
...impeccably prepared. We had been eating far too well in the week prior, so we kept to only entrees this night. My wife enjoyed classic osso buco on a bed of creamy polenta and fresh seasonal vegetables. No knife required! The three large, pan seared scallops which I ordered were perfectly cooked with a light garlic/white wine sauce over a bed of tagliatelle styled noodles. Mom had a lovely, unique salmon dish over shaved fennel and lemon, with a currant glaze. The Grand Marnier Souffle was quite good. Very nice wine list with both local & French vintages offered. Very nice choices of wine by the glass.
Given the outstanding presentation of these dishes and the intriguing menu, we'll return soon for the full five course meal!

Food was fantastic, but service
Food was fantastic, but service was a bit of a mess. Just wanted to be left alone in our little corner, but were constantly bothered. Took too long to get water after arriving and server brought me the mushroom ravioli rather than the butternut squash and another server had to come trade it out.

Le St. Tropez
We were having our normal argument about where to go for dinner, while on vacation. Everyone wanted something different. We decided on this French cuisine. We were pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable this was. Everything is very good from the food, abiance, etc. Price was good. Had specials all the way through. Tomato based clam chowder, and swordfish. Wine a bit pricy by the glass, but California, what do you expect. I would eat here again, and recomend to othes.

Special Night at a Special Place
Love this place everything is good. Had the veal which was tasty in a melange of sauce and veggies. Great watermelon salad. Eiffel tower for desert is a mousse heaven with fruit and pastry. Wonderful cocktails.

Le St. Tropez Try it
It was pleasure to have lunch at Le St. Tropez. The food was terrific. The service was just right. The restaurant looks good and the overall experience was very good. The menu was more then adequate for lunch. Good variety and veery good fish.

The food was great but not
The food was great but not gourmet. The service was outstanding. The background music was appropriate and not too loud. We really do not like background music that is so loud you cannot carry on a conversation. The layout is very good. We really enjoyed the experience.

Good food, very good service!
We picked it by sight and having a full bar! We were not disappointed. Cannot imagine not having an excellent experience here in downtown Carmel.

A Pleasant Evening
Cute place with charming decor, vintage type round booths with pretty Provencal table linens. Very warm and friendly service Nice wine by the glass. They bring a plate of hummous with some grilled vegetables and olive assortment to start off, which was very good and a nice touch. Terrific charcuterie plate. Sweetbreads (which I normally love, and are hard to find on menus) were fine but not great. Overloaded with heavy sauce. Mushroom ravioli were similarly good but not great. The souffles looked fantastic though we were too full to order one.
All in all, a pleasant dinner, and the menu has dining options in all price ranges. I recommend it for a nice evening, reasonable by Carmel standards, but not a spot for foodies.

Really Good Food
We were looking for the old St. Tropez which we discovered it is no longer in business and happened to fine Le St. Tropez. We were there for lunch and enjoyed it very much. It was probably the best meal of our trip to Monterey. The scallops were perfect, cooked yet still tender and succulent. My everyday chicken was anything but boring. It was tender and moist and oh so tasty. We both got French onion soup with our meals and it was very good. What else can I say, if in Carmel, give Le St. Tropez your attention. The interior is not as fancy as other places, but the food was very good.

We will go back
There is a lot of French cuisine in Carmel and I've had most. This was delicious and authentic and, for me, is rated very high on my list of favorites in town. Great job!

Lunch With The Mom
Lunch was very pleasant here. We ended up having French Onion Soup, which was wonderful. The Fromage Pizza was actually outstanding!
I would recommend this restaurant to my friends.
The only thing that wasn't the best was the service. Also, sitting outside on the new patio was really nice, except a bit awkward at times because they would fold napkins back there in front of you.

Cure Place with French Ambience
Loved the window table; great people watching. The manager showed me their new back patio with fire pit, and also loved the little table in the back by the fireplace. Went for lunch; the Croque Monsieurs were the best we've ever had. Soft foccacia, lean ham, lots of melted gruyere cheese. Nice slices of fresh tomato & lettuce accompanied the sandwiches.

Wonderful meal & very accommodating
We had such a great experience at St. Tropez. Not only were they very accommodating to our large party at the last minute but the food was to die for! We started with the fresh Oysters (probably the best I have ever had) and the stuffed figs. Again, delectable. My husband and I shared a hearts of romaine salad and I had the lamb for dinner. The chocolate souffle for dessert was perfection! We had a fabulous meal and I was very pleased with how wonderful the service was, especially during the holidays when most places want you in an out quickly!

when you want it all...
Went for dinner with an old friend to this amazing restaurant, right in the center of Carmel. Cozy by the fireplace with an amazingly well made drink from their cocktail selection we started the night. The service was excellent. The waiter always attentive, yet leaving us the time and space we needed to catch up on each others lives.
The menu was impressive and we both had oysters and each a different salad for appetizers. Our main courses consisting of a lamb and salmon dish were equally amazing. The fabulous night finished with the table-side prepared/flambeed Crepes Suzette. A spectacular feats for all senses. We will be back!
